I'd say the first dinos you have to tame is a MOSCHOPS since they are litteraly everywhere in every map. It will get you through early game struggle like collecting narcoberries and fighting off small to middle sized dinos. You just have to find one with decent level and hope that it only wants berries to tame
To be fair, on lost island you can get them *relatively* easily naked if you have good movement speed. It's super dangerous of course, but it can be done.
*8:40* *It also should be Noted: You can outRUN the Sarcosuchus, but you cannot OUTSWIM a Sarcosuchus (._.) don't even try.. and don't try walkin backwards either... if you're pushed into a corner you're dead (:/)*
Yes it’s good for escaping players with now guns or fire arms well if your lucky enough they’ll miss and on single player it’s good for escaping T-rex and all that
Stegos should be any new survivor's top priority tbh. It's literally a Tank and can defend you from nearly anything, plus it can gather berries, wood and thatch like crazy. It's single handedly the most versatile starter tame out there.
It'd depend on the maps available too. On officials I usually get a horse first-always get a horse first. It is fast, can carry a good amount and with a saddle it can make narcs on the go. It is absolutely perfect for a starter. Get a decent horse and in 10 minutes you are hunting that first flier and good to go!
Another benefit to raptors is that they're able to go into the lower south cave, having a pack of 3-5 should allow you to wipe out the cave inhabitants without losing one (except maybe if there's a Megalosaurus at night, best to do day visits), maybe have some stimberries or stimulant in case one of them takes enough torpor from the creatures to put it to sleep. Lower south cave, aside from all the torpor inflicting creatures, is the easiest place to harvest obsidian if you're low level and can't easily head to the north to harvest from the mountains.
Raptors are very very good starters, they kill almost any thing that attacks you near your base and they have easy saddles and theyre very fast, good for spoiled meat and get themselves out of harm with itd agility and speed
Iguanodon is much easier to tame than a trike, and is comparable in most use cases. Sinomacrops, Argentavis, Megatherium and Casteroides definitely deserve to be mentioned too.

Over raptor. I’d go with direwolf. If we are going for levels as while which is understandable. Direwolves require no level and they have a real pack boost. Raptors their boost is the speed boost called out by the alpha
I started on the Island. My first tame was a Dilo. Second was a Trike. Third, fourth was fifth were Raptors although the fifth was bred from the first two. Sixth was a Pterodactyl and that opened up a lot of opportunities. But the creature that changed everything for me was the Argy. Long distance, able to carry a pretty decent amount. I disagree on starting map, I think all new players should infact play the island first. While the Ark story is vague at best, unlike the maps suggested by the youtuber, you can infact learn the story by starting on the island. Its also the most balanced map in terms of progression and learning curb if you ask me. The DLC maps while great don't get me wrong. Lack a few elements or rather make it harder for newer players to learn by either being too easy of a start, pirates bay on rag for example. or too hard with tames, or situtations they start in only someone who has played the game will know how to handle. New players know nothing about temp, or poisons for example, hunger and thirst managment. The island is gental in the begining in teaching about watching these stats. Plus its the orig Map for the game. Thus on all platforms switch in general i think only has access to it. So if they were to join a crossplay server with friends everyone has access to the map The Island not everyone has access to the DLC maps.
Sinomacrops, Maewing, Direwolf, Moschops, Parasaur, Desmodous, Otter, and Argents, are all absolutely amazing tames. All of them are very easy tames. Sinomacrops will allow you to get around in the air, without a mount, and move around freely. It's also amazing for building bases. Maewing is all-around amazing. It's the uncontested best travel tame, low saddle req, cheap saddle too, it collects fiber with the bite better than any sickle, it can collect mass amounts of berries, the skid it does after a glide can be used for clearing out the rock, trees, and plants in an area within second, it can glide on water, it can swim rapidly, AND literally 2-3 tranqs to the head knocks out almost any level. They're just all-around amazing. The direwolf. It needs no saddle. You can just tame it with normal meat. It's fast. Rapidly attacks. And they just look pretty cool- Moschops are great for collecting wood, berries, fiber, you can ride them, and you can set them to collect a certain thing, and this makes them amazing. They are also a passive tame. Parasaurs are good for two reasons. They can collect berries early on. And. Their call ability makes it so they can sense any enemies around your base area. Desmodous. I just can't praise them enough. They can land on walls by latching with you still saddled, while doing this, they can go invisible, and you can shoot from their backs. They collect thousands of bloodbags rapidly, and thousands of rotten meat. They also have a silly small aggro range when ridden, to the point I can literally hover over a deinonychus, a group of them, I've done it before, and they won't notice you. They can also dive straight down, and like the tape Jara, can fly in all directions swiftly, turning on the spot. And 20-30 blood bags can tame two max levels with some to spare. Cheap saddles, too. Otter: If like me, you live in a cold area, (like fjordur!) then this little guy is damn near essential. Easily tamed by dragging a large fish or two uo to them and pressing e on pc, or Y on Xbox to interact, these little guys keep you warm AND cool. And they can be used to hatch eggs. And collect pearls through fishing. And argents are essential for grabbing your metal, wood, and stone run creatures, and running them around. Although they usually require 5-20 tranqs to knock.

And they just look pretty cool-
Moschops are great for collecting wood, berries, fiber, you can ride them, and you can set them to collect a certain thing, and this makes them amazing.
Thanks so much this helped me a lot!😅
@@Itsachapel I'm glad to hear-! Could I ask, what exactly did you tame?
if your on Rag or Valguior you get free carrots so why not an equis
