I really appreciate that you all took time to differentiate Black nail styles, esp bc they are very prominent today... it's important to credit those girls who did it first
Right. I remember vividly with my mother wearing different nail art, charms, jewelry and it was considered “hood” and “ghetto” and these same styles are reoccurring and considered trendy
French tips were DEFINITELY a big part of the 2000s. Rounded off square nail shape with French tips was the look for the majority of the decade for a lot of people. Accent nails also became popular. Whole hand one color and then one finger on each hand (usually ring) was another. Neon pink/orange was also a big trend.
Let’s not forget when we teenagers in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s that we used to have acrylic coffin nails with whatever color and design we all wanted 😂😂😂😂💅
My friends and l had nail piercings on our acrylic nails in the 90's. We also attached trinkets to our piercings such as the first letter of our given names. They were so much fun to wear, but the piercings would get caught on almost every fabric and the trinkets were heavy to wear. It also just occurred to me - for my 21st birthday (still in the 90's) l went and had my acrylic nails extended to about 7cm, maybe longer with a baby pink polish. I couldn't touch or pick up anything, but l knew l wouldn't have them done like that again, so l just enjoyed the moment. All good times! Thanks for the memories! LOL!
Nail tech here: All of the nail extension shapes in the 2000's and earlier in this video are suuuper inaccurate, straight, pinched forms didn't rise in popularity until the late 2000's and straight tips weren't really a thing until about 3-4 years ago, before then we had super curved tips that didn't have much c-curve to them and super stiff forms that also lacked c-curve and even created a slight flared edge on longer nails. Additionally, the acrylic nail extensions that were invented in the 1950's (which we still use today) were absolutely not the first ever nail extensions as this video suggests, silk wrap nail extensions have a much longer history. Also, who the heck thought it would be a good idea to make the model hold a guitar upside down and backwards? It makes the model (and by extension those who wear nails in general) look stupid and vapid.
I remember the neon nail polish of the 80s! The lack, fingerless gloves showed off the neon polish. Thanks for the history of the French Manicure in 1975. I love French Manicures. It's my signature nail design!
Nail tech here! Duck nails were a Y2K essential, but they weren’t highlighted or mentioned in the video. Duck nails with a combination of bright colors and prints (example: hot or neon pink base with zebra print French tips).
My God I hated duck nails! Iv also heard folks call them fan nails too. They are my least fave of the nail types lol but to each their own! I love me a good short to mid length stiletto or almonds shaped nail😅
@@1hinita I hate them too haha, but they’ve been making a comeback and some of my nail tech friends do them on their clients, and they’ve been kind of cute 😂 i think that the longer they are, the cuter they look because the length offsets the wideness. I would never wear them myself because my fingers are just too short and skinny for them, but I think they look good on certain people 😂 I’m an almost and coffin girl myself. The tapered sides make my fingers look longer than they actually are
I’ve never once seen duck nails on a single person ever and I’ve lived most of t life in a big city. Is it a localised trend somewhere? They look awful 😅
@@MD-cs7jd I don’t see them where I live in Miami often, but one of my nail tech friends does them all the time and she lives in Port Saint Lucie, which is about 2 hours north of Miami. 😂 so I’m thinking that you’re on to something and that it is a little more localized haha
I still remember growing up in the late 2000’s into the early 2010’s that nail art was one of THE BEST ways to express yourself! I can still remember little elementary school me wearing magenta polish 😁❤️
I can remember going to my Nans once after painting my nails metallic blue and her complementing me on them so I offered to do hers for a wedding she was going to, I can remember her telling me that all they had when she was my age was red nail polish as I was painting her nails for the wedding.
As a kid in the 90s I used to watch my mom with her long nails. I hated them because they reminded me of Freddy Kruger. Lol plus I didn't think they were that functional. But because of her I love getting my short nails done. Also when I hit my teenage years (late 90s/00s) I ventured towards the grunge look with nails anyway
Omg I remember when minx nails were all the rage! Funny how trends reset. Now we're back to the longer-than-life nails, it's all beautiful though if you can function. 😊
Okay but are we all just going to ignore the fact that they skipped over the 1920s and went straight to the 1930s? If I did my math correctly 2020s - 100 = 1920s
Can someone PLEASE tell me the song that was played for the 2010's one. I literally know the song but forgot the name and can't remember for the life of me. I think it's a kpop song
That's ridiculous. I haven't even heard of nude ombre before this video. I like me some color... If I saw a nude ombre on someone I would just assume they didn't do their nails 🤷😂😂😂😂
I disagree with how 2020s was represented. The panny changed everything about nail trends because nail salons were closed for large chunks of time forcing people to get creative and learn to DIY. Press ons and DIY manis became prevalent out of necessity. I think the concept of micro trends is worth mentioning as well with the rise of social media and influencers driving new looks monthly (think glazed donut nails).
long nails are so ugly not only you cant do anythinf with them but also they dont even look good like. im fine with normallu long nails but when they take it to the EXTREME long, its just useless.
I quit using acrylic nails they absolutely destroyed my nail beds and once my natural nails match the length of the fake nails I hate that!! It’s like a trap for dirtiness!!!

Being a princess for a day, literally unable to lift a finger sounds like a pretty special and fun way to spend your 21st, what a great memory/idea!
Abstract nails will forever be synonymous with 2022 to me. They were absolutely EVERYWHERE this summer!!
This is so cool 🤩! I love how over the decades we still loved our pretty nails 💅🏻

I just love the production and artistry along with the music...wonderfully done!!!

French manicure is a classic nail art style 💅✨
To be honest i am not a fan of long nails and prefer short painted nails, but i love the colors💚💙❤💜🧡🖤💞😍💅👍👏🌟
My favourite are the classic ones at the beginning, along with French tips and the nude ombre
French manicure is all-time ❤❤
haha I'll never forget doing those newspaper nails in 2015 that never worked

The 90's were a great time to ruin my mother's favorite hand towel with navy blue Wet n' Wild. Or maybe that was just me?
What about crackle nails! 😂
No nail stamping? That seems to be the biggest trend I see now
I think all of the nails are pretty God bless y'all

2013: stamp art
2014/15: metallic
This was a fun journey 😍
I don't remember 90s grunge nail looks being that long.
I love 60s☺️
No mention of the advent of nail polish strips?
Gorgeous beautiful ❤
I always have one question: how you can do anything with so much long nails 😭.
I have that same question. Nails that long would drive me absolutely nuts!
I personally associate more the rise of DIY nail art (mainly watermarbling) with the 2010s
They took 100 years of nail design and squeezed it into 5 minutes!
1960s one look pretty ❤
1975-2010 They are the best so far

You guys forgot the ‘cracked’ nail polish of the early 2010s
Out of all of them the 90s ones were the best

I don’t remember anyone in the 80s with nails like that.
Me neither, it seemed really off.
It's funny how everything comes back in fashion
Very nice videos 😍😍
Those were fake rings they werent wedding rings
Oh kamisama how much i love you. Exactly like her
When my nails need a fill I’m just going to say they’re crescent shaped inspired by the 1930s
2010s were known for galaxy ombre and aztec designs more than baby boomer nails imo
After 2014...
Okay the 80's nails... WHAT YELLOW NAIL POLISH IS THAT???
Probably just any good neon yellow polish
Probably just any good neon yellow polish
where are the crackle nail polishes?
Not mentioning gel polish??
2010s is wrong. Crackle polish, newspaper nails, and holo were everything...

these are so underrated

Disagree… since 2000’s short square nails gained popularity, not only long fake nails
I feel like they wase like a year when i was in middle school (2012?) Where nail arte exploded, crack nails, methalic, and so on
