I see I'm not the only one in the comments who doesn't appreciate the editorial decision to stop including the 1920s. This decade was one of the most stylish and opulent of the century. It represents the last age of American opulence before the economic and political hardships of the '30s and '40s forced designers and the public to cheap out and dumb down their clothes.
ok but for the 2000s we're not going to talk about "invisible necklaces"? Literally fishing wire with a dangling rhinestone. Or those chunky blinged out crosses we wore?
They were so pretty! As a teen I had several "invisible necklaces" with various pendant styles - delicate flowers, chunky stones, silver hearts! - but i somehow cannot recall the beaded plasticky necklaces shown in this video 😄😄
OMG those chockers in the 1990s... I still think they look cute even if they're out of fashion. I was happy when they made a resurgence a few years ago.
I really love chokers but I only find 2-3 ones that fit me. Most designs make it too feminine to find the right outfit. I like sweaters or hoodies but wearing a choker with them looks weird. If I wear a fancy dress, I want something more glamorous than choker. However a thin gold necklace works with almost all kinds of clothes.
Looking through the comments, I think many trends prior to the internet age were regional. I see a lot mentioned but I don’t see any of what girls wore when I was a kid.
Definitely not just California. I'm in the Midwest. They were also big in the 2000s. On the other hand, never saw the kiddie necklaces they used for the 2000s on anyone that I can remember.
The over done beads in the 80s were just for the small clique of new wave girls l. Nobody else wore that. Gold chains were the most universally worn look in the 80s
I don't really remember those mardi gras looking beads in the 80s tbh. Rice pearls were popular though. I think that I had a triple strand in 3 shades of white that were twisted together.
Came here to take issue with those awful plastic mardi gras beads - very strange decisions throughout this video TBH. They must have had a total budget of... $20?
C minus, the necklaces shown were all beautiful in their own way but talk about something then present something different as an illustration is confusing to the uninitiated. There have been iconic necklaces over the last hundred years that define their era, this wasn't that. this was disjointed and darn near disinformation. C minus
Nameplate jewelry was huge in the 90’s/2000’s. I was born in ‘02 but my mom had a bracelets and rings with her name on on them n when I was little I had a few bracelets cuz I broke one or two😅 n I had a ring with my initial n my dad had stud earrings with his name
For 2010 I would have added the layered long boho necklace look. That's what everyone wore in high school. The big "bib" necklaces were more office/glam, not everyday.
High school is the child equivalent to the office, both are everyday but to different demographics. I do agree that long necklaces should be on there too, I loved those and they’re a staple in tv show outfits at the time too
I would've liked to have seen how men's necklaces have also evolved alongside women's over time. Especially now that men wearing simple pearl necklaces has been on trend for the last few years :)
Love the blue 30s necklace. Like the early jewelry better anyhow. The last decade was also nice. I hate big, gaudy, plastic jewelry. I do like chokers, but could never wear them. Neck too short.
Can't wait for Mina Lee or Karolina Zebrowbska or Bernadette Banner to rip this to shreds. And I don't even know if it's shredable tbh, I just want bloodshed.
In my opinion, it’s too early to include 2020s, because it just started, and we still might see bigger trends. It would make more sence to start analysing 20s when 30s begin.
The models were all beautiful, but I wish they included some male models as well, because jewelry became more popular with men as the decades went on, especially starting with the eighties.
@@lindseystein9676 Now that just annoys me. How come everyone in vintage fashion community got to say that but none of you can tell me what vintage values are?
“Vintage values” meaning mainly a more widespread acceptance of racism, anti lgbt & misogyny. But now that I think about it, until more recently society hasn’t been very accepting of disability either.
Hey there, GLAMOUR, as a channel with 4.63 million , its a pity the channel could have leverage that to get some REAL vintage jewellery. All the ones you show here on this video , I can tell are very low cost, imitation accessories (not even jewellery, and not even do justice for vintage style) ... Not trying to be harsh, only suggesting it, cos I could imagine this could hv been better
Please don't stop including the 1920s in these just yet: I'd rather see that than the 3 years 3 months old 2020s!
We would always get the 1910s too
@@isaaciap2934 Ooh yes, I'd love to see those, still!
Especially since the era was famous for long strand necklaces!
Class never goes out of style! 👍🏼
They should add back 1910 and 1920
It’s not 2030 so I hope we get 1920 again in the future! That era had such a unique style

i would have put the owl necklace in the 2000s. everyone had one. longer big statement pieces were more in vogue than pearls.
I agree. I don't even remember the pearl necklaces but I immediately visualised the owl when I read your comment.
I wore an owl necklace every Sunday for church for a year when I was 13
Agreed. Bold statement jewelry was all the rage in the 2000s
Memory unlocked: I not only had a long chain with an owl but also one with a dolphin, a frog, and several other large pendants
Not true at all. Bib necklaces were the right choice.
We have *7 years* until the 2030's, so there is no reason to skip 1920's!
Yes
that's what I'm saying! how could they forget to go with the pearls of the 1920's??

True! But they were already going around in late '90s
They were so pretty! As a teen I had several "invisible necklaces" with various pendant styles - delicate flowers, chunky stones, silver hearts! - but i somehow cannot recall the beaded plasticky necklaces shown in this video 😄😄

I thought for sure I would see the shell necklace for the 90's. Maybe they were just super popular in California.

@@ramsesemerson the only time I saw people wearing necklaces like that in the 2000s were the ravers.
They were popular in Pennsylvania in the 1970s.
I’m sorry, but the example for the 80’s looks like Mardi Gras beads. There were way too many
They did look like Mardi gras beads
Like there wasn't enough huge, gaudy, neon, plastic jewelry to show. 🤣
Agree - this was way off… think early Madonna - strands of pearls and lace
Maybe she earned those beads at Mardi Gras
Cyndi Lauper was NOT representative of normal '80s fashion!
The over done beads in the 80s were just for the small clique of new wave girls l. Nobody else wore that. Gold chains were the most universally worn look in the 80s
Yeah, this video is poorly done. Seems like they prioritized product placement over historical accuracy.
We wore those beads but only 1 strand and we would knot it toward the bottom.
THANK YOU. That was definitely not an office (or even an adult, unless you were a pop star) look.
I don't really remember those mardi gras looking beads in the 80s tbh. Rice pearls were popular though. I think that I had a triple strand in 3 shades of white that were twisted together.

as someone who grew up in the 2010s, I missed the owl necklace, the moustache necklace, or the feather necklace in this video. everyone had those 😭
You underestimate people’s fashion sense.
I still haven't throne them
What about strands of pearls in the 50’s - I would’ve thought that was the quintessential look
Right? The “New Look” style!
We can't even say yet what 2020's will be remembered for fashionwise. Early decades still has the influence of the decade before.
I’ve been seeing a lot of layering of minimal fine necklaces these last few years.
@@Meimoons Right, but we're just in 2023.
What I learned: All these necklaces are popular and still worn today.
Fashion always returns so throw nothing
@@jirasi5557 Well said.💖
Yay, reference photos! My only note would have been to add the modern pearl/baroque trend. I think it would have been cool to see how far they've come
What do you mean, there’s no long owl necklace in 2010s?!?
Or those feather ones?
I only ever saw one person wear that as someone in fashion who was a teenager back then.
I remember everyone using velvet chokers with a little bow in 2016-2018.
That one lady giving personality and sass!! Love herrr

The models are so beautiful and unique looking. Love them❤
Everyone in the 1950s had a single strand pearl necklace. And what you have for the 1950s actually looks like the 1980s.
My thoughts exactly!!
every model makes this video so much more pleasant to watch
My favorite is the 1950s one :) it looks soo good on her!!
It was really classic!
It is important to note a string of pearls, dainty gold chains and diamond solitaire never go out of style like the little black dress!
Yassss zoom in on that Santee Alley necklace! You better werk Glamour! *eyeroll*
i wore exactly what the 1970s model did in the 2000s.
My long owl necklaces are missing their special appearance in this video!
Definitely do this gave us confidence
Gem 💎 stones has same colors as mine is sunrise
Make it 150 years of xyz please. The 30’s-now just isn’t cutting it. We want the early 1900’s back in the mix 😤
The did the 1980’s AND the model dirty. *They made it look like she was flashing people at Mardi Gras.*
These women are so adorable ❤❤
Even those necklaces of the Edwardian era are grand even in the roaring twenties.

Fascinating video ❤
This is not so accurate. Especially the oldest decades... wrong choice of designs and materials in those pieces
absolutely
Really cool video! Thank you models and producers!!!
The 1940s came back in the 2010s in a way! Also this video aged me 😅 I realised I lived through 4 eras of necklaces 😂
They really missed out on the tiffancy and co heart necklace that was super popular in the 2000's

So we're going to ignore the Juicy Couture charm craze?
Yes we are. Juicy couture was only madly popular in USA not the whole world barring a few cities here and there.
All of these necklaces look modern. Why don't you source vintage jewelry? It's not even hard
I like that First Lady, such beautiful smile all the way ~!!

Can you do 100 years of bracelets and rings
No one wore Mardi Gras beads as a fashion statement in the 1980s. Lmoa. What a swing and a miss.
1930s Bakelite jewellery pieces are now sort after items, along with silver Art Deco items.
I’m shocked to learn that adults wore that type of jewelry in the 2000s. I thought it was just for kids. 😂

Chokers actually date back futher into the 1700s. They were very popular in the French court
