This did not help me. Everytime I try to tighten my Harmonic balancer bolt to 80lbs, It turns the whole pulley and everything the belt is link to
Of three RUclips videos I watched, this one was by far most professional, informative and detailed. I just finished doing the balancer R/R in about 1 hour. Great channel
FYI: A normal harmonic pulley removal tool will work. Those two small holes have M6 x 1.25 pitch threads. A pair of M6 x 1.25 x 60mm graded bolts with some washers can be turned into the holes until they are just shy of protruding on the other side. The normal tool will apply enough force to remove the pulley. I just had to do that on my car and it worked quite well. Of course, all of the harmonic pulley tools come with M7 x 1.00 bolts which means none of those that I have tried will work on this engine. I had a hard time finding the correct bolts because they are an uncommon thread. I actually had to make them by rethreading some other bolts. Fortunately, I have taps and dies for just about any thread known to man. LOL If this helps anyone to not have a headache because some engineer used a goofy thread then I am happy to have been of some help.
Oh. There is an alternative. It is possible to run a different tap into the holes and cut the threads for a more common pitch. That would be my last resort, though.
+O Darn Thanks for the feedback!
How do you take out out the bolts next to the Harmonic Balancer to take out the Belts ? I had a 2001 Toyota Camry 2.2 Liter . I tried taking them bolts out to loosen the bolts but it looks like I have to take more bolts more than two ? I loosen one bolts already .But how many bolts should I take out to loosen the belts .?
I have a 96 the other day the car was running i noticed my balancer was a lil wobbly not bad though, my question is how i fix that and can the pulley bolt just needs tightened more or what? Thanks
Is there a torque spec for the harmonic balancer? I have a 96 camry
You didn't show how to tighten and torque the harmonic balancer. I want to know how you keep the harmonic balancer from turning while torqueing the bolt down.
That's the whole reason I watched the video .....
looks like maybe the impact drill tightens it enough to not need a torque wrench..im guessing.
Put the belt on that should give enough resistance
put the transmission in gear and lower car enough so tires can't move. crankshaft and pulley can't move then.

Hi Mike!
I noticed the editing of video was changed!! Really nice! I'm big fan of this channel! Thanks for update. I like it!!!
Hello. Thank you for the detailed explanation. Does someone know the name or where can i find the "splash shield" described in 2:38 ? mine is missing and the harmonic balancer gets water from the wheel :( Thanks in advance...
Very clear directions and excellent camera work! Thanks!
I was watching another video of yours and did the crankshaft and camshaft seals. I put a new timing belt on, put the lower timing cover on, and put tension on the belt. Both the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprocket are at TDC. When I put the balancer back on and hit it it with my impact wrench to drive the crank bolt back to spec, the timing has changed. The camshaft sprocket is still at TDC but the mark on the balancer is way over clockwise about 20 degrees. When I rotate the engine 2 times to verify both are on time at TDC, the mark for TDC on the balancer is way off. Is it possible the balancer is slipping? It's not possible to see the crankshaft sprocket with the timing cover on.
man, what kind of clearance do you have on that power steering belt between the time chain cover and the belt? i didn't check mine B4 i took it off to change the time belt but now that I have pout the pulley back on and installed the power steering belt its right on it. I mean, i can barely see light between the belt . makes no sense, i cant seem to tighten it down without it being too close.
Earned my subscription! Thanks
di you change the seal behind the h.Balancer?
Guys quick question, halfway thru my water pump/timing belt missions, where does the big washer on crankshaft go, behind harmonic balancer or behind timing belt cog thing?
What about torque to spec on that balancer?
Three uggahduggaha with the impact
How many nut or bolt do you have to take next to the Harmonic Balancer ? Was there 3 nut or bolts or is it 2 only to loosen it up ? My Toyota Camry 2001 2.2 Litter LE I only see 2 nut or bolts ?
Do you guys have one for the 3.0 engine
gracias por sus videos
Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com
You are a best thanks so much for your help Bronx Boy
It's left or right hand threaded balance balancer bolt???
Normally, the pulley-balancer just comes out, you don't need a puller. I use an impact tool to remove the nut. I have a 12-volt impact wrench from Harbor Freight, they sell it for use breaking wheel nuts loose, about
$25, cheaper with the coupons.. It's kind of a weird tool, but it works. You can also get a 120 volt AC corded impact tool or a cordless. But the little 12 volt has worked even for spindle nuts. Good luck!

How did u know it was the hb?

After hammering on my Harmonic balancer my crank is hitting at one point. I know it’s non interference but something is interfering. I’m thinking I moved the whole crank over. Please help!!!!
Loosen to the left or to the right?
How close is this to a 2000 corolla ce?
Which direction does the bold remove on the harmonic balancer? Clockwise or counter clockwise?
+Lynn Nicoll You need to turn that bolt counter clockwise to remove it! 1aauto.com
Thx I don't want to hammer the wrong way on a left hand thread
Why would you use a 21mm socket to tighten s 19mm lug nut?
I am doing this job right now. I got the balancer bolt off by using a long breaker bar with the handle end touching the ground and turned the engine very slightly with spark plug ht leads removed as you dont want the engine to start. this loosens the bolt. to remove the balancer i used a puller. I dont think the balancer bolt torque is that important as it becomes tight from the engine rotation. the job is quite straight forward but does require alot of rolling about on the ground if all you have is a car jack.

Hi ow to lock and torque the bolt ???????????????
How do you hold it place while you torque it?
Screwdriver or something through one of the holes.
@@Demonslayer20111 What holes?
Sir should i retiming the timing belt after i replaced the harmonic balancer ?
+Brian Paghubasan No, it is not required to retime your timing belt.
You don’t have to but I would just for peace of mind knowing there is no reason to go back and work on the same area.
So how did you torque the harmonic balancer?
I had to look through comments to see anybody else noticed that! That's the only info keeping me from preforming oil gasket job on my own 2000 with 175k.
99 Camry here with 225k on it and my outer layer of the harmonic balancer just fell off tonight while driving! Unbelievable. Great video! However, what's the torque spec on the pulley bolt?
A 99 Camry with 225k ....why is that "unbelievable"?
Is it the same concept for a corolla/celica harmonic balancer?
+Angel Arciga Thanks for watching! It should be the same or a similar procedure for your model! 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts It was! Fairly easy fix the rubber was gone and was freewheeling as mentioned in the video - it was bad! I got the part from 1A Auto, thank you!
Incomplete video or Harmonic balancer in place by magic.
Is anything different with the V-6 Camry engine?
+William Davidson There will be a difference between the two different engines, but the basic idea is the same.
1AAuto
1A Auto Parts I think the balancer can make noise if it is coming apart. Belts are still turning properly but the pulley is noisy.
1A Auto Parts we ordered 1 from you guys today. I have been ordering from you for about 3 years. Great parts. Zero complaints.
+William Davidson Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
Is this the same for a 2000 Corolla???
Did you ever find this out? Think this why my battery light is on of all things.
i used aircat impact gun and bump starter, none of the methods worked. Stuck now.
Why would it matter if you messed up the crank pulley grooves., it's trash.

No need to remove any hardware? Didn't you remove the alternator? It's not seen at 2:15
95 camry just replaced harmonic balancer 209,000 worn out pulley shifted.
+Roger R Thank you for watching. 209,000 is an amazing mileage, and we're sorry to hear that the pulley shifted. We hope that your vehicle keeps going past 300,000! 1aauto.com
If this pulley is bad will it cause squealing as well? Alternator was bad. I replaced and inspected ac and power steering pulleys and they're working. Car still squealing and running like alternator is bad. Why I'm guessing crank pulley isn't spinning properly. Also, pulleys are in line and I don't see any belt vibration or shifting. Thanks!!
+Mark Fabiano We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
My mechanic wants to charge me labor 351 dollars to change the harmonic balance and timing belt kit. Cam shaft leak so he said this is what it needs. Is this price fair for a 1996 Toyota Corolla?
Nothing worst than a dentist in America, second in ranks comes lawyers, followed by mechanics, specially at the dealer location those are professional thieves.
What a hassle! Looks way too complicated for a DIYer. Glad I'm paying my mechanic to do this job. I'm sure mechanics hate doing this because it's a lot of work. The video guy makes it look so simple like it takes 9 minutes. Gladly pay $500 labor to have someone do this that has done many already. My original harmonic balancer lasted 298,000 miles on my 2000 Camry. Great car and doubled the lifespan of the pulley due to excellent driving technique plus Toyota quality.
The bolt that goes on the harmonic balancer won't fit back in to replace the part smh what should I do

For Camry owners: Replace this at 150,000 miles OR ELSE. It slips at 180,000 or sooner. Just take care of it.
Mine just slipped right over 102,000. 😭😭😭
Yeah mine just fell apart at 154,000 :/
Yeah... He left out the tightening section... because all the new parts have no opening inside I would crank it down with an impact gun... just remember that you may need to do a timing belt some day so don't smash it on... it would have been better with the torque specs for that crankshaft bolt... just sayin"... me and my son are doing ours tomorrow... 96 Camry DX 2.2... it spit out the balancer like old chewing gum....
Hi Bob, I have a 1996 Toyota Camry DX 2.2........my harmonic balancer needs replacing; was it an easy job to replace yours?
Pulley bolt torque at 80 ft-lbs (108 N-m). There are 2 SSTs around $170 needed to do it. Or the cylinder rope method. I recommend the 2*4 method using the puller bolts. Cheap and safe. /watch?v=YRm7BViRsoQ
Thanks, now I tell my mechanic how to do it.. or make sure he is doing it right.. That will surely make his day..
no it wont lol
