    I appreciate your efforts, you did wonderfully well in summing-up these questions.
    I just want to add the following questions:
    1)What is your Gap in knowledge and what is the justification?
    2)what is your contribution to knowledge?
    3) Given a chance to repeat your work, what things can you do differently?
    4) Considering the literatures you reviewed, which one is closely related to your research and what is the major difference or how did it differ from yours?
    5) what is the current trend in your research area?
    The above questions are essential for any defense especially PhD.
    Thanks

      Thank you so much for your sharing these questions! but I don't quite understand the first question, could you explain it more specifically? Thank you very much!

    • @cjaytony9821
      @cjaytony9821 Год назад +17

      @@yaoyaoxie6028 thank you for the question. First, no research topic is entirely new in academia, and that is why it's always advised to do a detailed literature search before embarking on any research. The essence of this is to find out exactly what other scholars have done, what areas they didn't cover, and what other approaches could one adapt to still address the issue/ topic of interest. In other words, within the framework of what is existing, what areas are you going to focus on that have not been addressed to bring about new knowledge or improvements. Bearing some of these pertinent questions in mind is what would lead you to identify a gap in knowledge, which are those aspects of the problem that you seek to address but have not garnered any or adequate research attention. For example; researchers may have conducted a lot of studies on workplace stress in the health sector, and a good literature search/review might show you a trend in those studies focused majorly on nurses alone, on doctors alone, or on both. On your own as a researcher trying to carry out a new study on the same topic, you might decide to focus on specialized units like ICU, ACCIDENT, AND EMERGENCY units, etc. the next question could then be ....why are you focusing only on that particular unit? Now, that is where you provide a justification for choosing that particular unit or method as the case may be, in case you are trying to replicate a study. You may have several reasons for choosing that particular unit. One of such reasons could be that health professionals who work in those units face unimaginable workloads and time pressures, and they often deal with highly critically ill patients, hence, their stress levels are obviously high when compared with health professionals who work in wards or other units. You might also provide further research evidence to support this claim. Hope my explanations are quite helpful in advancing what you asked above. Cheers

      @@cjaytony9821 Thank you so much for you very very detailed explaination! I have totally understood what the "gap" mean and how to present the "justifications". You explained it much more clearly than my supervisor did. Thank you so much for you very helpful reply!

    Great video! It's really helpful to hear common questions that might come up during a research defense and how to answer them. It's so important to be able to clearly explain your research project, scope of study, significance of the study, and research variables to your audience.
    One of the things I appreciated about this video is how it provides concise and clear answers to these questions. It can be easy to get bogged down in technical jargon when discussing research, but the explanations in this video are easy to follow and understand.
    Overall, this video is a valuable resource for anyone preparing to defend their research. It's a great reminder of the key elements that should be addressed and provides helpful tips on how to effectively communicate your research to others.

    Methodology is generally qualitative or quantitative. Mine is quantitative. DESIGN is the type of quantitative, mine is non-experimental quantitative correlation. My statistical approach will be predictive correlation analyzed by regression of the composite variables as well as subscales of each variable. One variable is a mediating variable, which makes things interesting.
