Thinking about our opening lines in advance can also help reduce presentation nerves and make the rest of the presentation easier for both the speaker and the listener. Thanks for sharing 🌟
A simple and to the point. An attention grabber is a cornerstone in your presentation success. One of my very best presentations was in a general public political meeting where I started about a story of a football match that ended an hour before my presentation and I linked it to the topic of my presentation. It was very successful, although the slides were prepared in a very short notice and was not to my standard quality. I got lot of greetings from all audience including the keynote speaker.
I told a prospective customer this, brainstormed from the video: I'm so happy that Amy Gerety brought up introductions. Introductions are important, it begins the story about who is involved and why we are all here. I like the story idea and the why! Another sales tool I can use, thanks.
@@libbegreen3472 oh yeah I’m so sorry I completely forgot to tell you about that. I passed the course with A grade and your video is still helping me out with my presentations. I am so grateful to you. Thank you and sorry!
I'm watching this video right now, sitting in class, waiting for my roll number to be called for the presentation. Thanks for helping me at the very last moment Expert Academy. ❤
For beginners it is fine to be a little telegraphic. The key elements of an introduction are to greet & introduce the topic or issue. You can include a purpose too. Then an outline statement which states the key areas of your talke to be covered. Then invite questions to be asked at the end of your talk. You could also ask your audience a question - rhetorical in nature.. e.g. Have you ever felt a little sick whilst sitting in traffic? Well, today's topic will look at air pollution and noise pollution caused by traffic jams. Stories or anecdotes or setting the scene or mood is harder to do for lower level English learners; however, this inductive manner of getting to the point or purpose of your talk is a novel approach for sure.
I would not promote the cliché way of starting a presentation. It's the main reason the audience mentally switches off, because they instantly know another uninspired presentation is coming their way. Step out of your comfort zone. That's where the big win is.
@@ExpertEnglishI agree here. While beginners in all facets are granted a bit more leniency, I’d recommend starting off the right way to not get into bad habits as they get better and to hopefully get those wins right off the bat! 😀

Great video! The common presentation opener "Today, I am going to talk about..." might seem self-centered as it focuses on the speaker rather than the audience. A better approach would be using phrases like "You will discover..." or "Let's explore together..." which shift the emphasis to the audience’s gains, enhancing engagement and making the presentation more audience-centric right from the start.
In two days, I will have to give my first lecture to students at the university, knowing that I am in the second year of secondary school, and this is of course due to my excellence.

Very good tips! However, I have a question: In my case, the presentation I have to do for my study must only be 5 min long, with no question time. I have a maximum of 4 slides, excluding the intro slide and ending slide. How do I start my presentation in a more interesting way and still have enough time to talk about my study within the 5 min time limit? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
If you only have 5 minutes, I would jump right in. I will post another video soon with more strategies how to start a presentation. Keep an eye on this channel!
For really short presentations, I like "state of mind" comments.
