Thanks for watching everyone! Appreciate your enthusiasm on this topic and it shows in the number of comments coming in already! Just a quick important note: we want to make sure everyone is aware that many club manufacturers do in fact offer 'aftermarket' shafts as stock (no upcharge) options in their clubs. Not all stock shafts offered are a "made for" version for that manufacturer. What we wanted to communicate with this video is that golfers should look at all shafts as options for their game, and to assess whether a shaft improves their performance rather than being concerned with whether it's a stock or aftermarket shaft.
TXG Tour Experience Golf I was just about to write the same thing. For example when I just got fitted out for a new Driver in the UK at Custom Golf Labs, Herts and bought the Cobra King F8, there were so many different "no cost" shaft options that Cobra offered. I ended up going through quite a few different shafts at fitting and ended up with a Ust mamiya Elements Chrome Stiff, 55g, soft tip, cut down 3/4 inch. For me as 14 Handicapper I'm not sure how much better an extra cost shaft would be?
Another good video gentlemen, your content is top notch. With today's ability to read and analyze performance I'm surprised there are not more test videos on stock verses aftermarket and also early graphite shafts verses today's graphite shafts. Graphite shafts are the standard in driver shafts why has it not made that transition in regards to irons? Looking forward to your future content on shafts and other golf equipment tech.
Love the videos, and I appreciate the information and wisdom that gets shared. Shaft selection for us double digit handicappers can ruin your game if you make a bad choice, and manufacturers of course are always plugging their product as the '5 mph more, 5 yards more, 5 strokes less' solution to your problem. The whole 'made for' versus 'real deal' shaft formulation issue can indeed confuse and frustrate consumers. I'd like to see you take someone without 120+ mph swing speed (lol) and re-fit their current bag to prove definitively how a shaft fitting can improve performance. Stick to a budget say of $500 for a set of iron shafts, and show us how a stock TM, Callaway, or Cobra iron set can be improved upon if someone wants to spend the time to work with you. Yes, watching Matt consistently launch those majestic 300+ yard bombs is satisfying (if not ultimately depressing) for most of us (lol) I think showing the difference you can make to a hackers game might better illustrate your point and skills. Keep those vids coming!
So many golfers think after market shafts are so much better. As you clearly state if the shaft works it works no matter what type or spec. Great video again guys.
The combination of player and robot testing would make your channel unique, and the most informative in regard of ball testing... I am happy that you are willing to take the time and effort to provide golfer with as much information as possible, to help improving the experience with the game golf.
Great stuff again guys. I think it would be interesting to see the differences in playing conditions within the same family of shafts, such as testing the Tensei White vs. Orange vs. Blue vs. Red, or the HZRDUS T1100 vs. Black vs. Yellow vs. Red
Great video full of useful information. I've wondered why after market shafts can come at a big premium, and this explains it. I was also suspicious of 'made for' shafts and why they mostly didn't appear on the respective manufacturers websites. I was fit for a 2017 M1 12* with the stock Fujikura XLR8 Pro shaft by my local teaching pro and club fitter. While my driving improved it was still inconsistent at times. For the record, he fit me for irons and they are 100% on the money. I'm a 10-12 hcp player. My miss was always right (RH Golfer), and it creeps back now and again during a round, which i feel i can attribute partly towards the inconsistencies in the stock shaft. I can shape my irons & hybrids left or right. I'm in Melbourne Australia, so a visit to you guys is off the cards, however there are 2 highly rated custom fitting companies like TXG which i think i'll get in contact with and see if there is an aftermarket shaft that works better in the M1 head. Either that or I'll treat myself to a new driver head with the right aftermarket shaft. Keep up the great content, love the Podcast too..!!
TXG, thank you for touching on this subject. I listen to to many "pro's" and fitters say shaft does not matter. Well it does to me very much. I can't tell you how much money i have spent trying different shafts just because they are not available for testing in the places i shop. Makes you want to become a Canadian... not, sorry Ian lol. Texan for Life. I have a 917 D3 with a Speeder 757 evo II, also a 74 pro, and finally the one i game in it a Rip Phenom. Rip phenom performs about 25 yards farther and tighter than the other two. I also have the New M3. The stock shafts gave me no distance at all and much spin. Went with the tensie white pro in 70g and WOW!!! your right this driver drops my spin and give me my best numbers. FYI spin is my cryptonite. If i can suggest a shaft to review and this is strickly personal. the new Graphite Design AD IZ. Curious about this one and would love to see it in Matt's hands. Love your work guys God bless
As you said we must go in with open mind. I ended up with 3 Callaway wedges, after testing and fitting, despite (normally) disliking their clubs (look and performance, for me). They are performing very well for me, in real life, on the course. Have forgotten about wanting them to be SM7s or Cleveland or Mizuno. The fitting was serious fun, as well as being informative and useful.
Fascinating topic. Thanks for the info. Would you know how different the HZRDUS Smoke stock shaft is on the TaylorMade M5 vs an aftermarket Project X HZRDUS Smoke? How important is frequency matching on a weekend warrior golfer with a handicap around 10-12?
A discussion on older after market shafts vs newer after market shafts. For example the Aldila Rip'd NV vs the Aldila NV 2KXV. How much has technology changed over the last few years...
I had been playing the Fujikura Tour Spec 72 in X flex @ 44.5". Swing speed ~ 114mph. Taylormade M4, 9.5deg. I could certainly hit it pretty well, but it was also quite inconsistent. Since I hadn't been fit for a driver in nearly 5 years, I decided to visit the Taylormade fitting center in Mission Viejo. I was blown away at how far off my current shaft was for where my swing is currently. Ultimately ended up in the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-7x. Better in every category, especially dispersion. Bonus, I don't feel like I have to get after it yet still have gained quite a bit of distance. I encourage everyone to go get fitted! Keep up the great work TXG!
112 MPH driver for me. Fitted for Ping G400 with the Tour X 65 shaft vs any upgraded shaft. Was happy because price. Last driver, ended up with a 200 upgrade shaft.
I'm a recent subscriber and have learned a TON of information from you guys. What I've learned will be a great asset in my club fitting endeavors. Keep up the great work, guys.
I'm intrigued. How would Matt's gamer shaft perform compared to most suitable "Ping" brand shaft in his G400 Max. I suspect that Ping shafts had higher quality materials than the stock Callaway, Taylormade last time I was club buying.
Love to see the Accra FX series comparo. 100 v 200 v 300 to see the different flights and launches they offer with the same stiffness/flex. Within same family of shafts.Think it would be a very interesting video to show people. T Love the videos guys keep it up from Australia.
How does your channel not already have a 100,000 subscribers let alone 10,000?! There’s no comparison between your content versus some of the other fanboys who review golf equipment on RUclips. Just keep doing what you are doing and the views will come guys. Thanks again.
Got fitted the other day and found out that I needed to change from a regular steel shaft to a xstiff graphite. Had a smash factor of 1.5 with new shaft.
Would be cool to test Graphite Design because the OLD DI flagship is still #1 seller and tons of tour guys use...... and every shaft they have they rate 1-5 in Butt, mid, and tip. They don't release that many shafts but generally every other year they rotate between stiffer tip/softer tip. Its interesting though how half their shafts are popular then you get into some laggers like DJ GP GT. Especially DJ which never came close to DI popularity and GT which was a flop after the very popular BB.
Interesting.....I just watched this video today and noticed how much Matt has reduced the length of his swim over the year, well done! Lots of good info in this episode.
I have Aldila Rogue Silver 70 S 110MSI shafts in both my TEE driver and 3wd, they came as a stock option. I called Aldila at their HQ in Cal. and they told me that is the exact same shaft in those woods as I would buy from TXG or any other fitter, no difference. He told me they don't make any "made for versions" for the OEMs of the Rogue shafts. There is a 125MSI version which is the tour version that is only available through fitters I believe he said.
walter s they are absolutely right Walter. 110msi versus 125msi is just a description of the tensile strength of the materials use not a valuation of which one is “better”
Awesome as always Guys. Would like to see a video where the player is hitting a variety of creative shots, the numbers produced, and the optimum numbers you require to pull off these shots.
I'd like to see players with differing swing characteristics being fitted to shafts which compliment their swing. For example...a player with good lag, one who casts and a typical early release/flip player. For example the early release player possible hit the ball high and may think he needs a 'low' launch shaft to find an overall 'mid' flight position. This would be a good fitting session for people to watch.
I'd like to see Ian do the same test as he loads the club harder than Matt does in transition. I bet the numbers would be quite different especially the spin. That 4gt blue board had a 4" parallel tip instead of the x5ct's normal 2.5. They did it mostly for Titleist to make it easier it install full bore, as the standard 2.5" puts would get very still if fully inserted. It definitely took some guess work out of blind boring and how much to tip. Those tp taylormade shafts went all the way back to the 510 tp range.
Awesome channel, very informative, skeptical on the availability of this type of fitting in your memberships local areas. Hopeful to find an option to improve my game through proper fitting and equipment.
I'd be interested in you guys testing iron shafts vs multi compound shafts. I recently put some Fujikura MCI 100S shafts in my irons and they made a big difference for me. They also do not hurt my wrist if I hit a fat shot as they absorb the vibrations I found.
Love the videos guys, keep up the good work. However...as this was not a like for like comparison it would be great to see a fitting where you start with stock options to get as good a fit as possible but then move onto aftermarket options to show how much more can be achieved with the fine tuning capabilities those aftermarket options offer.
again, great video and content! looking forward to all the insights! maybe test the Kuro Kage line of shaft? with the XT that works so well for you, and all the other options of the silver series &I think theres quite a common stock version?
Great information as always. Can't wait to see discussions on shaft flex. *Just a little suggestion for shaft testing. It would be even more fantastic if you could have another camera with 240fps or higher facing the person hitting it off, to see the shaft's reaction in slow-motion.
I got fitted for a taylormade m2 2016 when they first came outIs my aldila rouge black 70s just a stock as I was thinking with 30 shafts available as standard they was after market and there worth around $300 even tho the driver was only $329
Great vid. I have known This for a while. I have never enjoyed the feel and performance of stock shafts. I purchase custom shafts and I keep my custom shafts now. I have the Atmos tour spec blue in my old M1 driver and this is an amazing shaft. My stock evenflow in my Titleist hybrid is woeful. Luckily I have a custom aldila shaft that I have kept.
Thought on this video you would get an off the shelve club with a shaft.. Say cobra with a hazard stock "green" which is a t800 hit it then get a small batch after market t1100 "green" hazard, which looks like the exact same. Is that what went on in this video and I missed it? If the after market small batch which looks identical to stock except that little badge is a Lot different that is wrong.
Wow ! Very interesting. Same shat but we need to see it as two different shats. Coming at your place in 2 days for the full bag package. Can't wait ! I'm so excited ! See you on friday pm 👍
1) I think the same test should be ran again with a 110mph and a 100mph swing. Most shafts have pretty much the same name in the stock vs aftermarket version with a big price gap inbetween so this is an important piece. 2) Maybe after this test, re-run it to see if you can get aftermarket results by just going one flex stiffer in the stock shaft.
As someone who has snapped 2 fairway wood shaft and one driver shaft stock standard kinda feel Weak, flimsy and cheaply made. after your guys tensei orange video I had to get one after that my left miss is still in the fairway compared to the standard Diamana that used to be in my driver which was a snap hook. After watch your guys videos all the stock shaft are currently out of my bag I don’t need the inconsistency in a cheap shaft making me think it’s my swing producing bad shots when it just the club face flip closed. Thank you for the recommendation for the x7 dropped my spin by about 400 on average gain 2 yards of carry.
I think it would be cool to see a shaft test using the same flex but different weights with discussion on the relationship between flex and weight if there even is one. Thanks for the great content!
No.. the Atmos red is offered as a stock option in many clubs. It is still an aftermarket shaft. The white one is the tour spec line. Simply a different model..
Uday Khunti That’s not shouting, it’s capital letters lol. I can buy both shafts from fujikura direct. That makes them both aftermarket shafts. When they say “stock” it’s spoken in a pretense of made for or non aftermarket, house oem shaft if you will. But they are simply comparing two different aftermarket models. Make sense ?
I think the HZRDUS handcrafted vs machine made would be a good test as well. Big price difference but the materials should be the same, just one is hand made vs machine made.
Who was the first company to come up with the Black/Blue/Red shaft profiles. Seems everyone is following it now. I started using it during the old Mitsubishi Whiteboard days.
You guys should do a series on grips.. and benefits with adding wraps and getting a good size for your hand.. would really like to hear what you think about adding wraps.
Is there such a shaft that has low launch low spin characteristics but helps in closing the face? Usually low spin would mean tip stiff which also would prevent the face from rotating no?
hi guys, would like to hear if the titleist offerings in ts3 driver , evenflow T1100 is really what it says? like t1100 as in the material. blows my mind how they offer a t1100 at no upcharge where the Graphite design would be 300£
I would like to see you guys test driver/fairway shafts dialed in to specific carry distances and tight dispersions. My dream driver would consistently carry 260yds with little roll out while maintaining playable left/right dispersion...that I would spend money on..! A++ video gents
Why did you use a ATMOS Black Tour as the aftermarket shaft instead of the ATMOS Red Tour? The TM stock shaft is based on the red profile so I think that would be the proper comparison.
Partly because despite having that wall of shafts behind us, believe it or not we don't have every shaft on the market 😆 We also wanted to communicate that part of the advantage of going aftermarket is the ability to access a greater variety of profiles within the same product line of a manufacturer. So for example, if I bought that M3 off the rack I have access to that shaft in various flexes, but if I go in for a custom fitting I can try a variety of shaft profiles that may (or may not) be more suitable to my swing.
@@clubchampionmedia Or because it makes the numbers look better and sell more shafts? Plus what about drivers like the F9 that come with the real deal shafts....
I would love to see a video comparing your shaft fitting process to Mizuno's shaft fitting device and see how similar the results are for each process. Maybe have an individual whose swing you aren't familiar with have a fitting and then use Mizuno's shaft fitting device to compare results of recommendations.
Generally steel shafts are the original versions from the shaft manufacturer. There are a few companies that offer their own stock steel shaft however.
What about a video of someone who is a fader of the ball, and would like to have a draw in his repertoire. Would a slightly tip softer shaft allow him to do so? Or would that cause a dramatic loss in yardage because higher spin / higher launch condiions?
Generally speaking a softer profile should help a player square the club up a bit easier for hitting a draw. That being said it doesn't always work that way for every player. By going from a fade to a draw you'll tend to get less spin anyway, but it is possible that a softer shaft would introduce a bit more spin
Changed from a rogue stock shaft in my Titleist which felt a little sloppy when I went to hit it hard to a graphite design ad di. The feel is a lot smoother with the GD. Great vid as always guys 👍👍👍
Fantastic! Hoping to get to your facility this winter for a full set fitting (putter through driver). But wondering if that's a good idea if I haven't swung a club for a few months. Also, is it possible to request Ian for the fitting?
Great video! Unsure if it’s been mentioned before but when Matt swings why is the GC software not set for Left handed swings i.e the software thinks it’s a fade when he is actually hitting a draw. Am I nitpicking?
Great video! Can you guys do a video on breaking down what shafts fits best for what swing tempos? I know you said shafts are more of tempo finder.. I would like to know what kind of shaft torque, weight, and etc fits best for a slow, mid , and fast tempo swing.
Great video. Definitely have been spoiled by you guys. I have seen a difference in terms of fitting from club fitters at a PGA Superstore vs on a Demo Day. At least for ME, it seems like the reps at these demo days do a better job fitting that a pro.
Would like to see you do a comparison with the stock even flow blue in the rogue driver vs the even flow blue hand crafted after market. There is a huge difference in price between the two. It would be a true stock vs after market compare.
I have an old set of r7 irons with a R flex, served me well but my swing has changed somewhat. I'm looking to keep the heads and add Stiff flex Graphite. Can you show what difference that does to a club Please.
Hi, why is golf shaft an energy producing device? I thought the golfer generated power and the shafts are more of a transmission/energy store release device. Would you be able to clarify?
Energy transmitting would be a perfectly fine way to describe it as well, the shaft is what delivers the clubhead to the ball and based on it's profile it can have a big influence on the delivery.
I use Apollo Spectre light steel shafts in my woods and for me they are better than any graphite shafts I have tried and I have tried them all. And the best part is Apollo shafts cost less than $5.00 a piece.
Thanks for watching everyone! Appreciate your enthusiasm on this topic and it shows in the number of comments coming in already! Awesome channel!! Review the Wilson c300 forged and Wilson FG v6 irons. Keep up
The up the good work!
Possibly not better at all Ricky! If you were fit for that shaft and it performs well for you then take it to the first tee with confidence!
Another good video gentlemen, your content is top notch. Great to see when experts relay their knowledge in such a clear and easy to follow way. I played a graphite design Aura shaft for years and loved it .
I love golf shaft discussions. This channel has the potential to overtake all other RUclips Golf channels. Keep it up guys...
Rick would have something to say about that. However good they are
This aged well
crazy going back and seeing Matt's swing go past parallel. love the channel guys!
Matt, as a new follower and after watching so many newer vids, I love seeing the differences in your swing from this video to your newer ones.

This answered my dilemma to the point. I knew I needed to be fitted for an aftermarket. Awesome work guys!!!!

Great stuff again guys.
I think it would be interesting to see the differences in playing conditions within the same family of shafts, such as testing the Tensei White vs. Orange vs. Blue vs. Red, or the HZRDUS T1100 vs. Black vs. Yellow vs. Red
When I was a pro, I found more resin or glue in stock shafts, versus the weave or material in aftermarket shafts.
The robot testing is insane news. You guys already offer the most in depth knowledge of shafts etc on youtube, that would be an awesome addition
👍👍👍

Almost at 10K subs. This is where things will start to grow exponentially. Well done boys.
Counting down to 10K, Miura wedge give away quickly approaching.
And at 100k now!

Miguel Garza you have Club Champion in Texas. No offense to TXG, but Canada is a pretty lengthy trip for a fitting. :)

TXG Tour Experience Golf 14 of 14 fairways the other day with it. No complaints
I could spend all day watching your videos
Top notch stuff guys
Thank you for the amazing content
very fair! cant wait new video about stiffer stock shaft vs that of softer. your guys are great!
I'm a recent subscriber and have learned a TON of information from you guys. What I've learned will be a great asset in my club fitting endeavors. Keep up the great work, guys.
Would love to see a driver fitting ie ping using stock shafts then see you optimise them with aftermarket
Would like to see the Ping Tour shaft (stock shaft, which I have in the LST head in Stiff flex) versus any compatible aftermarket shaft. Great vid
Ditto

I like this one and you read my mind Ian about reverse engineering the test good stuff.
I’d like to see a similar shaft test with a mid-handicap player. Most of us don’t have Matt’s swing.
then it wont matter if your swing sucks
Thought on this video you would get an off the shelve club with a shaft.. Say cobra with a hazard stock "green" which is a t800 hit it then get a small batch after market t1100 "green" hazard, which looks like the exact same. Is that what went on in this video and I missed it? If the after market small batch which looks identical to stock except that little badge is a Lot different that is wrong.
Would like to see the difference in the project hzrdus shfts vs the the handcrafted hzrdus shafts
I've done a recent one on spine alignment, front vs back, interested to see if you get similar results!
It’s awesome to see what Larry has done with with Matt’s swing
Great video again my only wish is your store was in the UK.
I think it would be cool to see a shaft test using the same flex but different weights with discussion on the relationship between flex and weight if there even is one. Thanks for the great content!
I love this, I would like to see one with the upgraded shafts offered for me....thanks
I would love to see shaft choices for different handicaps. High, med, low, scratch. Just to kind of show the improvements if any
I’m a little confused, Atmos red is an aftermarket shaft. The other Atmos is a tour spec, a different model. Both are aftermarket shafts..
No.. the Atmos red is offered as a stock option in many clubs. It is still an aftermarket shaft. The white one is the tour spec line. Simply a different model..
@@rwdriver300 You literally answered your on question, it's offered as a stock option
Uday Khunti
THEY ARE BOTH AFTERMARKET SHAFTS.. One happens to be offered as a stock option.
@@rwdriver300 Why are you shouting. By definition if it is offered as a stock option is needs to be in the stock shaft catagory.
Uday Khunti
That’s not shouting, it’s capital letters lol.
Another great vid keep up the good work 👍👍
Love what you guys are doing. I’m somewhat of a golf geek and you are putting out great info. Keep it up!
Hope you do the stiffer stock vs the softer aftermarket test.
Would love to see a review of the Aerotech TiFiber driver shaft if you guys have them available. It’s hard to find much about them online.
You guys are the best. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge to us. Would like to see more discussion for the average golfer. Thanks
Idk if it's been done yet, but I'd be interested to see how much shaft weight affects the swing/drive.
Good idea!!
How about a video of Matt getting fitted with “graphite” iron shafts? Great, informative videos guys!
It would be interesting to see the difference between a stock regular shaft and a stock stiff.
Is there such a shaft that has low launch low spin characteristics but helps in closing the face? Usually low spin would mean tip stiff which also would prevent the face from rotating no?
Look into demoing a counterbalanced shaft, i.e. Tensei Orange
TXG Tour Experience Golf ..fyi currently gaming Aldila NV Green 65g X stiff
hi guys, would like to hear if the titleist offerings in ts3 driver , evenflow T1100 is really what it says? like t1100 as in the material. blows my mind how they offer a t1100 at no upcharge where the Graphite design would be 300£
Really good information. Brilliant as always.
Partly because despite having that wall of shafts behind us, believe it or not we don't have every shaft on the market 😆
We also wanted to communicate that part of the advantage of going aftermarket is the ability to access a greater variety of profiles within the same product line of a manufacturer.
Interested in seeing an updated video. I've heard driver costs are going up due to the shafts now being "legit"
I would like to see the stiffer stock option vs a softer aftermarket shaft
👍
I would love to see a video comparing your shaft fitting process to Mizuno's shaft fitting device and see how similar the results are for each process. Maybe have an individual whose swing you aren't familiar with have a fitting and then use Mizuno's shaft fitting device to compare results of recommendations.
Interesting video. My question is does this also count for irons? since they use steel shafts instead of graphite
Generally steel shafts are the original versions from the shaft manufacturer. There are a few companies that offer their own stock steel shaft however.
How about a Video showing what you guys have in your bags?
You can book with Ian for sure, and best to get some practice time in beforehand if possible to keep the swing in shape.
Great. Thought so. Thanks! I'll figure something out soon.
Great video!
Unsure if it’s been mentioned before but when Matt swings why is the GC software not set for Left handed swings i.e the software thinks it’s a fade when he is actually hitting a draw. Am I nitpicking?
Usually is, that was our bad. Forgot to switch the setting over to display LH info.
Great video! Can you guys do a video on breaking down what shafts fits best for what swing tempos? I know you said shafts are more of tempo finder.. I would like to know what kind of shaft torque, weight, and etc fits best for a slow, mid , and fast tempo swing.
I'd like to see a comparison of Steelfiber i95s vs. other top end graphite style shafts etc, and PX etc.
Really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Why did you use the Atmos black as comparison to the stock shaft which is the Atmos red profile? Why not compare the aftermarket red to the stock red?
That's what we had available in the shop. In any case, the aftermarket red would play a bit softer than the profile if the stock shaft in the M3
Great video lads 👍
How about testing difference of Tensei Pro Blue, White and Orange?
The Cobra F9 claims to use the Tour Spec black. Is that correct or is it a modified version?
