You and your friend have been hearing reports of three teenagers from another world slaughtering the animals of peaceful valley and have even taken out humans. The three are leaving behind a trail of blood, and you and your friend realize that they intend to go to a gray door in the littleput steps to leave this world and move on to the next. And you don't want that, because more innocents will die because of them. Giygas can wait. So you ambush them, guarding the door so they can't kill anyone. But you notice something's off. They don't actually want to kill you two? Or do they not want a fight? As you fight the trio off, you begin to realize that, for one reason or another, all the killings are outside of their control. That something else is pulling their strings, just as a different entity is pulling yours. So you lay down your weapons and say you don't want a fight. And the human of the bunch takes advantage of it, tries to kill you in a single swipe. Your friend sees this in time and takes the hit for you, telling you to finish the fight before collapsing in a pool of his own blood. The horn of life, used specifically to bring people back from the dead, doesn't work on him. He was a child. You are also a child. And you see something behind the devastated teenagers smiling.
It's kind of appropriate that the Varik model used Marth as a base. Varik's name in the PC98 versions was 'Ares', so you've got Ares and Mars, both named after gods of war. (Greek and Roman, respectively.)

When hearing the song during the fight in Deltatraveler, I realize how fitting it is to the current atmosphere. The Undertale Megalovania is much more epic in comparison, but hearing this version is excellent at conveying how depressing the current situation is. You killed the chosen one of another world, angering a poor girl and you and your friends have become miserable. The song is not here to make you feel accomplished, it's here to make you feel worse.
The Undertale one it's the Chara's theme, the moment when… I'm going to say "them", has the highest satisfaction moment, when them feels unstoppable and defeating Sans it's going to turn them into the ultimate, the most powerful person on the underworld. Otherwise, the Halloween Hack version it's a moment when a Mad Scientist has a psychotic attack trying to overcome the loss of his boy, his last source of happiness, filling the void with a murderous hunger. The first half of the theme it's definitely Chara, because it's even more powerful and vibrant than the original, but the second half it's definitely Sans. That part pitched down and without drums it's noticeably sadder compared to the Undertale Version.
You know what makes this version work so well in Deltatraveler? It keeps the intensity and hectic patter of the main melody, but the drums are done in half-time. It gives this version this… calculated purpose. Like Paula always knew what it would take to stop you, but made the mistake of hoping you were redeemable. That you would never actually murder a child in cold blood. Then you do it. And Paula’s heart shatters. She watches helplessly, with no healing magic to her name, as Ness collapses and bleeds out. And her mind breaks. The innocent girl that was holding back has had her innocence shattered, punished harshly for foolishly thinking you would show mercy. And now she has to do what she should have done all along. She doesn’t hold back. But she wishes she could. There’s a melancholy to the drums backing this otherwise hectic, rage fueled track. And what a rage Paula possesses in this moment. Just… expertly chosen track and a brilliant remix in it’s own right.
Don't forget the ending, where her attacks only deal 1 damage, but she's not trying to attack Kris, Susie, and Noelle. She's tryna attack YOU the player.

I may not be really acquainted with Varik's home series or the Halloween hack for that matter, but a quick look at the Toby Fox wiki says that a main difference is that Varik has no PSI abilities at all. This is all if you don't count the fact that it's not official in the first place and therefore won't be considered at all.
It's hard to try and convey the feeling, but it's like... if the final battle actually had a more emotional undertone. The chords in this remix hit way too hard, while still maintaining the simple iconic structure megalovania has. This is... if Megalovania was not only the final battle, but like, the final final battle, if that makes sense. I absolutely love it. Wonderful work!

I've been trying to figure out why this version and CogDis' megalovanias are my favourite, and I think you hit the nail on the head. They both are more sorrowful, more emotionally-stressed versions of the song, as opposed to the more exciting, hype-music-y vibe from undertale's version.

The thing that I love about this remix that many get wrong is reconveying the track as a "march". Halloween Hack has a surprisingly unique Megalovania, despite missing like several iconic sections. It's built around being slow and burning down the player, not being excessively fast and frantic. And honestly, this remix captured that perfectly. The drums are paced consistently, almost like they act as a literal heartbeat. It's menacing, and it's what made the interpretation of Paula's battle for Deltatraveler so crazily good. It wasn't about fast paced fury. It was about making you pay for your fuck-up.
The world on fire, burning with unbridled rage and hatred. The moon turned red after being awash in a sea of blood. The stars themselves are drenched in it. Blood. Blood everywhere. Blood. Rage. Hatred. Take away the mind of a madman, this is all that remains. Varik learned this one the hard way.

This is actually really good. Dare I say my favorite rendition of Megalovania in general along the actual Smash Remix. It's dramatic, tense and actually what Megalovania SHOULD sound like, a really tense song that sounds like a last hope for a character that saw everyone die (I don't have the context for Andonuts and Vriska so I'm going with Sans's context)

That's why some fanmade songs almost feel like they fit even better than Megalovania when u replace the song. As somebody with the context for Andonuts and Varik, it’s a fitting juxtaposition for the rest of the hack. Unironically cool as hell stuff combined with subpar content that creates this weird mix of tension and comedy gold. I mean, we have a character that rivals the Cloaker and Scout in insulting your ass as the final boss after a genuine bit of a tortured old man’s deteriorating mind.

Commenting for Deltatraveler. I personally have not enacted any Genocide/Obliteration routes in this game, but knowing this is the song that plays as you proceed to destroy two main protagonists in another world… Admittedly, it was Deltatraveler that pushed me to finally get and play EarthBound, and since playing, there is one thing in my mind that I cannot stop thinking about. The same SOUL that is helping Ness and his friends conquer evil in one timeline, is also the same SOUL that mercilessly brings an unforgettable end to those very same characters, using the vessel of another human, who seemingly has no want, wish nor desire to hurt or kill anyone. We’re ruining hundreds of lives, just with this one battle alone 💔
god, i got fucking chills when i realized this started playing in the paula fight. we've finally gone full circle - earthbound -> undertale -> earthbound.
This is one of the best remixes of not just the HH Version but overall. This feels like a full realisation of the original, makes me think of a reality where the Hack was larger scale, maybe on a different engine, and was a lot more professional and did the subject matter justice while being genuinely emotional. Definitely should've checked this one out earlier, you mastered an enhanced feel of it, great job!

In Delta Traveler the theme is used well. You angered Paula and you are probably going to die. Even your friends no longer trust you fully. Susie's Red Buster can only be used once. But it unlocks X-Slash, taking control of Kris to attack.
People are saying Varik is Kris, even though Varik is actually taken from the video game "Brandish." Also, "Gadobadorrer" from Brandish 2 was one of the songs that inspired Megalovania, the other being "Megalomania" from Live a Live.
I also thought Porky's theme was an inspiration (you know, his theme that's called Cease to Exist in Japan). You can hear some bits of Megalovania during the intense part of the song.

I may not be really acquainted with Varik's home series or the Halloween hack for that matter, but a quick look at the Toby Fox wiki says that a main difference is that Varik has no PSI abilities at all. This is all if you don't count the fact that it's not official in the first place and therefore won't be considered at all.
It's hard to try and convey the feeling, but it's like... if the final battle actually had a more emotional undertone. The chords in this remix hit way too hard, while still maintaining the simple iconic structure megalovania has.
This is... if Megalovania was not only the final battle, but like, the final final battle, if that makes sense.

I've been trying to figure out why this version and CogDis' megalovanias are my favourite, and I think you hit the nail on the head. They both are more sorrowful, more emotionally-stressed versions of the song, as opposed to the more exciting, hype-music-y vibe from undertale's version.

The thing that I love about this remix that many get wrong is reconveying the track as a "march". Halloween Hack has a surprisingly unique Megalovania, despite missing like several iconic sections. It's built around being slow and burning down the player, not being excessively fast and frantic.
And honestly, this remix captured that perfectly. The drums are paced consistently, almost like they act as a literal heartbeat. It's menacing, and it's what made the interpretation of Paula's battle for Deltatraveler so crazily good. It wasn't about fast paced fury. It was about making you pay for your fuck-up.

This is actually really good. Dare I say my favorite rendition of Megalovania in general along the actual Smash Remix.
It's dramatic, tense and actually what Megalovania SHOULD sound like, a really tense song that sounds like a last hope for a character that saw everyone die (I don't have the context for Andonuts and Vriska so I'm going with Sans's context)

As somebody with the context for Andonuts and Varik, it’s a fitting juxtaposition for the rest of the hack. Unironically cool as hell stuff combined with subpar content that creates this weird mix of tension and comedy gold. I mean, we have a character that rivals the Cloaker and Scout in insulting your ass as the final boss after a genuine bit of a tortured old man’s deteriorating mind.

This feels like a full realisation of the original, makes me think of a reality where the Hack was larger scale, maybe on a different engine, and was a lot more professional and did the subject matter justice while being genuinely emotional.

Also, "Gadobadorrer" from Brandish 2 was one of the songs that inspired Megalovania, the other being "Megalomania" from Live a Live.
I also thought Porky's theme was an inspiration (you know, his theme that's called Cease to Exist in Japan). You can hear some bits of Megalovania during the intense part of the song.
