I’m stuck inside because of the pandemic and I’m working on this project now. Thank you for such an easy to follow tutorial to keep me busy instead of worrying!!
Finished this project today! I’m definitely a beginner and I’m also left handed but regardless this was a really easy tutorial to follow so thank you! Turned out super cute and I recommend for any beginners
I am handicapped and don't walk anymore , but I'm still able to do most everything else , , crocheting, and sewing my favorite hobbies , I have just made this top for a friend's daughter it turned out lovely. Thanks for sharing and giving all such an easy tutorial to follow...
Almost done with this!! Just have to finish making the straps. Thanks for the tutorial :) I increased with the last 5 rows just so it could fit my bust a little better. I have a slightly more “triangle” torso. So happy with the turnout!
Hi Ivelisse, this pattern (Tie strap crop top) doesn't have any decreases in it the top is a tube (it stretches out to fit your body after you've worn it a few times, so the bust portion will become wider than the waist) and the straps also don't have any decreases. Maybe you're having issues with a different pattern?
Thank u so much for consider to put in your blog the pattern for all the sizes! ❤️❤️ So much people use only a S or a "Unique"... That it is not for all bodies. So thank you so so much 😍 cheers from Argentina🇺🇸💙🤍🇦🇷
Purva Goswami i made size small, and i made the top longer so i used more yarn than the tutorial which was xs. i used a little less than two balls of 285yds/4.5 oz or 260m/127.5g of medium 4 acrylic yarn (that’s all that was available to me). it was about a ball and a half of the yarn that i bought (it was a huge ball). sorry if that doesn’t make sense to you, i’m new to crochet measurements. i would recommend not using acrylic, the top was stiff and not super soft. i don’t mind tho!
I would like to learn a trade and I have chosen this, I made a list of your videos and I was so terrified to see them because this looks so difficult and I have never even had a needle in my hands... thank you for being so thoughtful and meticulous, also for explaining in a simple and understandable way even for those who have zero experience!!❤❤❤
Love this tutorial so much!! Wouldn’t it also be possible to simply start crocheting the straps onto the top itself so there’s no darning needle needed?
Thanks Camille! Yes you could crochet the straps directly on but I find that it makes it more difficult to get perfect placement and the stitches can 'pull' on the top so the first round of the top isn't as straight. But feel free to alter this pattern to suit you :) Grace
What’s the value of doing FHDC over chaining 100 and then HDC into those chains? I’m trying to determine whether it’s worth learning a new way of stitching 🙃
Hii I really love this tutorial! I’m already making the top but my my number of HDC seems to keep on increasing, is that normal or am I doing something wrong? Pls answer🥺 thankyou
Can someone gives tips to make sure the work isn’t twisted? I redid the first 4 stitches and the work was not twisted. However, as I build it up, it begin to twist
@forthefrills I was wondering why you need to turn your chain at row 3? Do you then turn it each time you've crocheted the round until 37, or keep going without turning? Thank you!
Hi Valentine, I turn after every round so that the seam runs straight down the middle of the back of the top. If you don't have to turn after every row, the seam will curve and slant in one direction. I hope this helps, Grace :)
Hi Grace! I have 2 questions: 1: I have about 3.65 oz or 103 g of yarn to work with (I'm making the xs I think) But in the past I tend to come up short on yarn in the middle of the project without any yarn of the same color. Do you think I will run out or is this enough? 2: Instead of making the tie straps could I possibly just make 2 longer straps that just go all the way over and I sew to the front and the back? Let me know, thank you for your time and helpful videos. :)
Hi Selma, If you use a different hook size, it will probably change the gauge. So you can follow the pattern as a guide but you'll have to alter the number stitches and rounds you crochet so your top will fit. Grace :)
hello!! to those who have finished this project, around how much yarn did you guys use (in grams)? since I'm not sure if my yarn is enough and I wanted to make sure before I buy the same color. Thank you so much!!
@forthefrills , My yarn is fuzzy and I am having trouble with the FHDC, can I just crochet up 100 and chain one and go back and half double crochet instead? I hope that makes sense. Love all of your videos
Hi Kymberly, you can use a foundation chain then crochet across but the first row of your top will have less stretch and might not fit over your head! I'd recommend crocheting the first round and then see if your yarn is stretchy enough to fit over head. If so, your top should be fine :) Grace
Hi. I just recently started crocheting and I am currently following your video because I totally love this top😊. I checked in your pattern, what is the difference between "upper bust" and "to fit bust"? I just want to clarify. 😬 Hope you will reply. Thank you ☺️
Hi Kre, The upper bust is the measurement just underneath your armpits but the 'to fit bust' is your true bust measurement - so the widest part of your bust. I hope this helps, Grace :)
Heyy I really need your help! I was looking at the measurements in your blog ( by the way your tutorial and blog are really really helpful) and I saw that the bust actual measurement is 30 inches for xs and 34 inches for s and I wanted 32 inches so instead of 100 or 116 stitches in the foundation chain.. should I do 108 stitches..? Please reply..the thing is I am making it for someone and I can't wear and check so I need to be right :(.. please help
Hi Chantelle, The blog post has all the suggested yarn amounts :) Please keep in mind that if you use a different type of yarn you'll probably use a slightly different amount of yarn. Every different type of yarn has a different amount in each ball so there's no way of knowing the exact amounts! Grace
Hi, When it comes to stretch, yarn choice is EVERYTHING. Cotton-acrylic blends work best for summer tops! 100% cotton yarns have no stretch to them so that's why they need to be laced up if you want them to be form fitting. I hope this helps, Grace
Hi, the slip stitch doesn't count as a stitch so you should never work a HDC into it. This will cause your top to slowly get wider! After every few rounds I'd recommend counting your stitches to make sure you still have the same amount. Grace :)
