I held my crochet hook in the knife position, I think it is called, and hated slip stitches...BUT if you practice holding it like a pencil, you can learn to eadily rotate your hook with a little spin to turn it towards you and make quick work of the stitch. It takes a bit of practice, but this top would make you a master by the time you finished it. I recently made the bck lp hdc by...???something frills, and the top turned out lovely, but not stretchy..just a ribbed look. My mum is 84 and thinks shes so funnnny when she calls me her happy hooker. She says you have to know how to do it more than one way to get the job done! So now I can crochet nearly equal holding my hook either way, and also knit English, continental and Portuguese...so just try holding your hook another way and see if it helps, also try the yarn on multiple hooks. You can have 4 metal hooks and all will have a different grab or slide on the same yarn.
I love this pattern and how simplistic it looks! Slip stitches for me are very satisfying on some types of yarn, but the majority of some are just a nightmare. Lovely pattern and video💖

@@cassandrarudolph1307 unfortunately the slip stitches kinda is what it is. 😅 I'd suggest to practice with a little swatch and try to use a loose grip. the back look slip stitches can become too tight to work into if your grip is tight. 😊

Sometimes back loop slip stitches can be tricky, how many rows do you have made? It wont really start to show stretch until you're a few rows in, 8+. Or you may be inserting into the wrong loop, not the back loop.
Thank you! I'd say, in general, just to make sure you have your grip the way you want it. I really struggles with some pieces being too tight or too loose resulting in a different sized garment despite being the same chain count. Aside from knowing every stitch. hehe, hope this helps, love!
Hi Anna, I don't have a minute to make another video, but would love to try to explain it through the comments. What part are you having trouble with? 😊
Hi, I tried making this and when I was done with the ribbing for the sleeves, the bottom ribbing under the arm just stuck out like there was too much yarn. Is my yarn too bulky? I followed the instructions and crocheted through every hole, so I’m not sure what happened.
What yarn did you use? and when you connected the full HDC rows did you connect into every other Stitch? If you do it into every it may ruffle out a bit.
Hello. First thank you for all your patterns, they’re beautiful 🥰 I have a question, when I try to do the increases it doesn’t looks like a stair, I mean the little peaks that are going upwards doesn’t appear. So you do the same steps in each round or you do and increase in the first and in the second twice? Ooor you do the increase to have one more loop to work with in each round? I’m sorry, it’s my first top and I really want to make it but this part it’s making me cry 😅😅😅
Nooo don't cry! 😊 Don't be sorry. When doing the increases there may or may not be a "stair" the look of it doesn't actually matter, just as long as there is an extra stitch in the next row. So as an example: 10 Back Loop Slip Stitch, Chain 2 (the first Chain counts as the extra stitch for your next row and the 2nd Chain counts as your turning Chain) and flip your work. Into the 2nd Chain from your hook, insert with your first slip stitch and 1 back loop slip stitch into the rest of the stitches. So since you worked into that extra stitch there should now be 11 Stitches. 😊 Hope this helps! If now let me know and we'll work through it together. 💕
hi ! I love this piece a lot ! but I have a question: for the decreasing portion for the front panel, when I work my way upwards to the armpit, do I stop one stitch before the row ends ? thanks !
Mine is not stretchy at all and so tight no matter how loose I go! Any tips? I am seriously doing such a loose grip but still struggling to get the stitches in
How do you keep Track of the number of rows you do? I get very confused on counting even individual row , since I can’t tell the rows apart I just use measurements as reference
The slip stitches can be pretty tricky to separate, but what I like to do is pull my work apart a little bit, like stretch it out and there will be a pretty clear ribbing, like 1 raised row & 1 sunken in row. The 1 raised row counts as 1 row & the next sunken in row counts as another row. 😊 Hope this helps!!!
If I was to use comfy cotton blend and that yarns calls I think for a 5mm I think Does it matter what size hook I use considering we use body measurements instead of gauges and swatches
Don't be so hard on yourself!! Slip Stitches aren't the easiest stitches to work. 😅 If it helps at all try to keep count of your amound of stitches. It's really easy to accidentally miss stitches with slip stitches so maybe that is why it's coming out in a funky shape. 😊
@@TCDDIY yes thank you ❤ I did miss lots of stitches, I now understand 😅 I'm almost at the ribbing part now. I used single instead. Awesome video ❤ I admire people like you
@@TCDDIY yes they are even though it looks very pretty but boy they are hard to work with uff...thank you for your tutorials your work is very beautiful
Quick question, at 14:58 you said to add a chain up of two after the backloop half double crochet and keep the pattern of backloop half double crochet until the stitch marker. So do you keep doing the chain up of two every time you reach the top or was it only for that first backloop half double crochet? My straps in the front looked too big compared to yours so I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.
@@TCDDIY Yes I realized what I was doing wrong and miscounted the stiches. Now I have another question: I restarted like 5 times with the underarm border because it looks loose and frilly compared to yours. I have followed the video and even slowed it down but every time I restart, the border keeps having this frilly effect. I'm having the same problem too with the front panel border. How can I fix it???
I have restarted this project three times. It looks bang on for all the increase rows, but as soon as I am adding the straight across rows, it appears as if I am dropping stitches. The top appears to shrink and curl? I thought it was the tension of the crochets...so I started the project again adjusting my tension. But it happened again. Any tips? I'm desperate and determined to make this!
Hi Joyce! Hmm, Are you keeping count of the straight across rows? It's a silly question, but I only ask because it's suuuper easy to accidentally drop a stitch with these and it could look wonky. As for it curling, it does naturally a little cause the stitches are so small, but shouldn't be bad/it'll even out when we seam it. Hope this helps! If not let me know. 😁💕
Hi, I would like to ask a question about the first portion of the top. I couldn’t achieve the increasing part (diagonal ends). Am I supposed to add only 2 chains at the end of every row when I increase? The top looks great :) I really want to make this and I hope you can help me!
when you were doing the left under arm panel you said "maintain increases" but then when you were doing the right you said "decrease every other row, like we did on the first panel"...I'm assuming you meant maintain the increases AND the decreases? I suppose I'm gonna find out, on my first panel ;)
Does the pattern tell you where to put those stitch markers, the first 2? I’d hate to buy another one that seems so simple from the video, yet quite unclear and complicated on the pattern.
Hi Gia, thanks for reaching out! If you can let me know what part of the video you're at, like a time stamp, that would be great so I can help you out a little bit further. 🥰
Hii! Do you decrease the same way if you use another stitch?? Or is that way decreasing for that stitch :) thank you in advance. very nice video. I like it very much.
@@TCDDIY how about when you use a single crochet stitch? I accidentally did single crochet instead of the stitch that you are doing in the video. Thanks for the reaction BTW :)
@@lonnekekohl4042 Here is a link that will take you to another video of mine that describes how to do a decrease single crochet. It starts right at the time stamp. 😊ruclips.net/video/kOHteIiLjxc/видео.html
@@TCDDIY and how about increasing is that different for single crochet 2? Bc I did it how you do it on the video😅 I hope I don't have to start over again😂
When doing the straps after the “triangle” part do you only do half double crochets on the original 6 stitches or also on the two slip stitches? Also when doing the chain up of two do we increase or do we skip the two stitches under our hook and keep doing half double crochets down?
Hi Tori! The slip stitches are only there to connect into the body of the piece so 6 Half Double Crochet's for every row. The Chain 2 is to get the half double crochet height. Skip those and maintain the 6 half double crochet's for the strap. 😁
I tried following the slip-knot pattern but the stitches were just too small. Tried with too types of yarns and 3 different hook sizes. No matter how loose I tried the hook was a struggle to go into the stitches. So I switched to a single-back-loop. Do you have any idea what I might have did wrong there?
Hi Dori! I know you posted this 7 months ago, but I'm just trying this now and yours is the first comment to mention this and I had the same problem! Used a yarn that normally works fine with a 4.5mm hook but then was finding it impossible to get the needle in so switched to a 2.75 mm hook which worked great at first but then also started to get too tight. I've resolved just to try again and do single backloop crochet stitches today. Have you by chance been able to figure this out?
When you complete the first row of slip stitches, does it still measure 8 1/2 inches like the foundation row alone? Or does it shrink? If it shrinks, about how much should we add on to get the length we want? I just did this and with the same number of stitches, it shrunk by 2 inches.
Hi Kat! Yes, it does shrink, and as for how much, it all depends on how tight your stitches are. I've had projects shrink 4 inches and i've had projects shrink just one. I'd say add an extra 2, just to be safe!
Hi, can I ask a question, is it a problem if I did an odd number of stiches? Will it be difficult for me to do straps and top border and what to do with remaining one stitch? 😀
no worries if it's odd. you can either combine the stitches when doing the strap or you can slip stitch into there making it 3 stitches instead of 2. since it's just one it would make much of a difference. 😁
Hi I finished the first part under the arm the 21 rows but when I measured it, my Didn’t reach out the W 3.5 inches. My the W is 3 inches. What can I do? Can I continue row 1 and row 2 until I reach the 3.5 inches?
Hi Cassia, the measurements are mainly there as reference, not a hard and fast rule. It varies from yarn size and tension, so as long as your 3 inches can stretch from mid under arm to the front of your body you're good to go! 😊
when i chain one switching rows on the increasing part (not the side where you actually increase) do I do the next stitch in the first or second stitch from the chain
Mine isn't stacking (sorry I don't know how to describe it) on the side I think it's where u r increasing but mine is looking to be straight all the way down I am doing the 2 chains and then into the second back stitch what else am I missing.
Hi Samantha! It sounds like you're doing it right. It can be really easy to accidentally increase of decrease into the slip stitch rows, i'd suggest to make sure you have the same amount of stitches for every row! If you have any more questions you can always send photos via Instagram or etsy.😊
Ok sorry I think I see what I'm doing wrong, I am supposed to chain 2 every other row and that makes the side like that am I correct? Last question I hope thank you so much for responding so fast ☺️
For a size small this took about 550 yards. I'm unsure of the amount you'd need to a Medium, but it shouldn't be that much more since this piece stretches. 🥰

@@TCDDIY I got a bulky yarn. And I did every row

Beautiful
Thank you
Hey its a nice Tank Top and i would like to do it for a school projekt! But I have a question, how many balls or gramms of yarn did you use?
Hello. First thank you for all your patterns, they’re beautiful 🥰
I have a question, when I try to do the increases it doesn’t looks like a stair, I mean the little peaks that are going upwards doesn’t appear.
With this product, how much bust is new, I hope you will answer this question. Thanks you 😘
Hi, thanks for reaching out. I don't think i'm fully understanding your question can you rephrase please?
@@TCDDIY I am sory . I want to ask, how much is the first round with such a product?
hi ! I love this piece a lot ! but I have a question: for the decreasing portion for the front panel, when I work my way upwards to the armpit, do I stop one stitch before the row ends ? thanks !
Hi! Are you asking because it's slanting or because you're looking for a different fit?
Yaaasssssss!💃💃💃💃 next project loading
You already know!
@@TCDDIY thank you so much ! Yes great tip🙏🏽
If I was to use comfy cotton blend and that yarns calls I think for a 5mm
I think
Does it matter what size hook I use considering we use body measurements instead of gauges and swatches
Hook size doesn't matter. Just keep up with the measurements and you're good to go. 😊
Should i use cotton yarn to make crochet top or will 50%acrylic blend be better?
I've seen this made in both. I personally prefer a blend cause they tend to stretch better with the BLO SLST's. 😊
@@TCDDIY thanks ❤️
i love this pattern but i have a question!! can i use cotton yarn to make this?
You can, but the stretch will be a little less stretchy, but it's definitely doable. 😊 Just keep up with the measurements and you're good to go. 💞
Awesome video
Don't be so hard on yourself!! Slip Stitches aren't the easiest stitches to work. 😅 If it helps at all try to keep count of your amound of stitches. It's really easy to accidentally miss stitches with slip stitches so maybe that is why it's coming out in a funky shape. 😊
@@TCDDIY yes thank you ❤ I did miss lots of stitches, I now understand 😅 I'm almost at the ribbing part now. I used single instead. Awesome video ❤ I admire people like you
Hi! I'm just wondering how much yarn did you use?
All the tools are listed within the first minute of the video. 😊
I like it but I'm going to try it with sc because I really don't like the slip stitch
😂 Slip stitches are a hustle, I get it. Would look just as great with singles too though. 😊
@@TCDDIY yes they are even though it looks very pretty but boy they are hard to work with uff...thank you for your tutorials your work is very beautiful

@@jamycaaduca8615 😍😍 How dreamy! did you finish it or still WIP?
Hi do I add 2 chains at the end of each row followed by a slip stitch in the second chain after turning?
For the increase side & only along the top end. Yes! 😊
Ok thanks so only at one end i chain two,the other end do I just chain one and turn,is that right?
@@amberconnors5997 correct! 😊
Awesome 👏 thank you 🙏 for replying so fast, can’t wait to make it😊
Hello I hope all is well. Can you make this top horizontal instead of vertical? Stay Safe! Blessings and Respect
Yes! You can, It would give a different fit since it doesn't stretch as much, but very possible. 😊
Can this pattern be made with DK weight 3 yarn? Accidentally bought a different weight 😭 and would a 4.25 or 4.75 hook size work the same ??
Absolutely! As long as you keep up with the measurements you're good to go! 😊
So I’m gonna do backloop sc instead
On the slip stitch backloops that’s the only row in so increases or I increase in both rows ?
Still every other, it would be the same as the given instructions.
Just tp clarify, you're working on the strap correct? Yes, always Chain 2 to start the next row. 😊
@@TCDDIY Yes I realized what I was doing wrong and miscounted the stiches. Now I have another question:
I restarted like 5 times with the underarm border because it looks loose and frilly compared to yours. I have followed the video and even slowed it down but every time I restart, the border keeps having this frilly effect. I'm having the same problem too with the front panel border. How can I fix it???
@@abbyd7830 frilly, as in it ruffles? Hmm, Are the first few rows the rows where they are smaller Stitches along the outside?
@@TCDDIY Yes as in ruffles and yes I think the first fews stiches are smaller
@@TCDDIYThanks for the tips. Will do a recount and keep my fingers crossed!
Hi, I would like to ask a question about the first portion of the top. I couldn’t achieve the increasing part (diagonal ends). Am I supposed to add only 2 chains at the end of every row when I increase? The top looks great :) I really want to make this and I hope you can help me!
Yes, you're correct! 😊 Thank you so much!!! We appreciate your comment and kindness! 😊💕
@@TCDDIY I just finished making this!!! I love it ❤️❤️
when you were doing the left under arm panel you said "maintain increases" but then when you were doing the right you said "decrease every other row, like we did on the first panel"...I'm assuming you meant maintain the increases AND the decreases? I suppose I'm gonna find out, on my first panel ;)
If you can give me a time stamp i'd love to clarify, but yes, start with increases and then end with decreases. 😅
So right at 4:40, I can see a little pink stitch marker. Just quite unsure when it was added?
I love the tank top. I want to make it but how many ply of yarn did you use? 😅
Thank you! All of the tools are within the first minute of the tutorial. 😊
Hii! Do you decrease the same way if you use another stitch?? Or is that way decreasing for that stitch :) thank you in advance. very nice video. I like it very much.
Thanks so much! No, decreases are different for every Stitch. 😊
@@TCDDIY thank you so much!
@@TCDDIY ok thank you so much!!!
@@TCDDIY hej
@@TCDDIY Yes, that makes sense. Thank you.
Do you single crochet them together wrong side out or right side
Wrong side out. Then when you wear it all the seams will be along the inside. 😊💞
The one you are doing in the video, what size would you say this is XS, S, M?
This is a size small. 😊
@@TCDDIY Oh ok, I am so happy it's not a big problem 😁 thank you very much 😉
is there something else you can use if you don't have safety pins or stitch markers?
Bobby pins, scrap yarn, whatever won't fall out. 😊
@@TCDDIY thank you!

Of course, keep up with the measurements and you're good to go!
@@TCDDIY okay thank youu! :)
im about to start this, are you still actively commenting back to this or is there an email i can send questions to?
I love it! How gr use? Thanks
Thank youu! Unsure of the grams, but this was 550 yards!
I’ve never heard the term “ block off” the chain. Can you explain that?
Of course! That's just to know where the last Chain is and where the turning Chain starts. 😊
Could I make the straps separate using rib stitches and then attach them?
Of course. 😊
How many grams of wool have you used for this product, I am Vietnamese, I hope you will answer this question for me, thank you
Hi! Much love to Vietnam! All the tools are typically within the first minute of the video. 😊
You work into the 1st Stitch, so not the chain, but the first Stitch into the row. 😊
Can I do this with 3 yarn??
How much yarn did you need? Could you tell me how much ll be needed for size M?
For a size small this took about 550 yards. I'm unsure of the amount you'd need to a Medium, but it shouldn't be that much more since this piece stretches. 🥰
@@TCDDIY thank you!
I only have a 3.75 and 4.5 mm hook which should i use?
4.5 mm hook would work the best. 😊
@@TCDDIY thank you!
