    I have heard people on Reddit talking about defects on their crystal light like their microphone not working. I might save my money and wait a while to see if Pimax improves their quality control. At least they’re aware they have issues to work on.

      That was my reddit post actually, but it only cuts out occasionally and is fixed by replugging the usb. Think it's caused by me using the 3.5mm jack because my dmas order is delayed, and I'm also apparently the only one with the issue. Honestly it is still a great headset.

      I'm waiting patiently to mine to be shipped, upgrading from Index too. How is the FOV compared to it? and the weight? did you get the LH faceplate to use the tracking and the great controllers? ty in advance.

    • @EruKaze
      @EruKaze 20 дней назад

      @@ekaitzmorales3532 FOV is really good. But that being said from my usage it kinda puts you close to the lenses. But the FOV is really nice. (like Wider and Horizontal than the Index)
      Weight: I personally thought it would be lighter feel than the 8K X but it somehow feels similar in a way. That being said you can still feel the weight of the headset, but I'm gonna try to adapt the way they want you to mount the headset. Since I used to do another method on the Index. (Its gonna take bit of time to get used to the new method of the strap)
      I got the headset with inside tracking with controllers. But i also got the Faceplate, Top Strap, DMAS all reserved for it. So i could test all things with its main inside tracking, as well the faceplate. Using DMAS is a Must from my use since being used to the Index Over Ear Speakers.
      I would also reccomend to get Studioform for the Facial stuff as well the comfort strap, like the spacers and what not. (Its better off having it just incase). I'm waiting for mine to come in this week and hopefully it would make things alot better, along with Comfort.
      Of course my headshape isnt big its average and i needed the Top Strap to get things balanced on my head, than just the Pimax Elastic Strap alone.
      On the Light house Plate, you may have to look into the Discord "Tools and Tips" and one of them discuss of a issue on the LH Faceplate that it kinda has with it loosing tracking abit. I did the tweaking as been said and it improved it much better on the Signal placements.
      Overall I love the headset, but im gonna hope when I get the Studio Form stuff it would make it much more comfortable.
      Microphone aside, I kinda found out to disable Enhancements in Windows itself (on the Mic), Increase the volume to 60% or such. Always check to be sure the Enhancement is disabled (when either you take the USB cable out and in of the computer for the headset) But i do hope they make the mic better but it sounded much better atm compared to its default state that they left it on.

    I ordered back in mid April with your affiliate code. Still waiting while all the reviewers get to enjoy their headsets free of charge. Pimax is a perpetual kickstarter company at this point. This headset was basically off the shelf parts and it’s still a several month ordeal. By the time the headsets get to normal peasants like ourselves it’ll be outdated. Frustrating to say the least. It’s obvious whenever they make an announcement on a new product they have absolutely nothing lined up to fill orders. It’s all thrown together once they see the reviews trickle in. A real company would design a headset and actually have production in place at announcement time

    Another great video Steve! My thoughts are the Light will be fine for MSFS which I spent 80% in and 20% DCS. That said, with incoming upgrades for hardware ill wait for the full bells and whisles VR Headset with mixed reality! I believe in the next 2 years we will see some fantastic equipment coming! When it comes to DCS ill just train on the Crystal Light and I once i fill proficient ill step up in VR headsets. It is really hard to justify high price of the top dog headsets when all im really needing is instrument clarity and decent outside views for the VR Experience. Right now I feel the Crystal may do that? I will admit i have purposly avoided Primax since they have been around. What caught my attention tis time is price and what you get for that! Like everyone else its judt a waiting game for now as i order early June 2024. Steve do you have a Primax Crystal settings video, yours looks so good!

    One think that no one comment is that Primax offer just 1 year warranty for 1000 Euro (incl. taxes) product . This is not acceptable, but people dont have many options for good pcvr and dont even care. Its even not legal in EU to offer warranty under 2 years. Its basically 1000 euro disposable product . I hope after meta open they os for third party big players like asus or lenovo will come up with competitive products

      @@pondracek I do like the thought of no batteries and lighter weight. How does the fixed foveated rendering work exactly? Is it better resolution in a smaller area?

    • @pondracek
      @pondracek 27 дней назад +3

      Foveated rendering means that you have a central high resolution area surrounded by low resolution areas to save on render resources.
      When you combine it with eye tracking, the high resolution area follows your eye, so it's promising better graphics for less compute and an inability to recognise the lower resolution because your eye has different acuities from the center to the edges as well.
      Fixed foveated rendering is when the eye tracking is missing, so the high resolution area is simply always in the middle. So you have to turn your head to read a gauge rather than just look. In general, you don't want to sacrifice anywhere near as large an area with this approach either, which means less resources saved.
      In my opinion, the advantages of foveated rendering have been greatly overstated. The center of your eye is the highest resolution vision you have, but the edges are more sensitive to movement (and have better night vision, where the center has better colour perception; rods VS cones).
      VR has awful aliasing problems already, and when you reduce the resolution, you just get a shimmering mess everywhere where you're most sensitive to the shimmering, and this has *always* irritated me about foveated rendering.

    I truly do not know how you think this headset fits good out of the box; I've not heard of anyone including myself that hasn't had to buy the Studioform kit and shim this thing, which for me took 4 of them to get it to fit somewhat comfortable without huge gaps on the sides leaking light. And I don't have a really narrow face, but with all the shims in place it's now somewhat acceptable, but nowhere near as good as the G2 or the Quest 2. Clarity is I will agree very impressive, but now Pimax Play is crashing my apps for some reason, so it should be fun trying to troubleshoot that.

      My Discord and VR Facebook group is full of people who find it very comfortable, but like a pair of shoes, comfort is very personal. I used Studioform balancer kits on the standard Crystal with the battery, alongside many other headsets, but I don't personally feel the need with the Light.

    My head set came last week, I tried it out and almost cried... The quest 3 is producing better graphics at the moment so I need to learn how to tweak it (If i keep it)... my other issue is I have a small head and found the Pimax is too large for my face it leaks light and most uncomfortable on the cheek bones... I'm seriously considering returning it and go for the Bigscreen Beyond......

    • @wittyname-sy5je
      @wittyname-sy5je 26 дней назад +2

      Regarding the cheek bones, a comfort strap may help with that. From what I've heard, the comfort top strap made by Pimax doesn't fit the bigger top strap of the Crystal Light. Studioform Creative however makes one called the apache comfort strap that should work just fine. I use one on my Crystal and it helps lighten the weight off your face, including the cheek bones.
      It's odd that you're not seeing a better picture than the quest 3. Double check the resolution you're using. Also make sure you're in the sweet spot. To do this with aspheric lenses you need to look for geometric distortion (warping of the image), typically towards the sides of the lenses. To best see them you need to move your head while watching the picture with your eyes. Try moving the headset up and down on your face as well as adjusting the IPD until you get it to where you have the least amount of warping. If that doesn't work then the only other thing I can think of is the 1m focal distance of the lenses may make it a little hard for some people to focus. If you're wearing glasses and they're set for something closer to 3m focus distance then you might have a little difficulty focusing. You can try prescription lenses with a prescription adjusted by your optometrist for 1m. Then finally the last and probably most likely reason you're not seeing a good picture is due to defective lenses. It's not unheard of with Pimax sadly. In that case reach out to Pimax. Be aware their support can take a while.

      @@wittyname-sy5je Thanks for that, but I started the return process now... I really did want it to be the best headset I've ever had, but its not for me :( I've lost half my body weight this year due to illness and maybe that's why it's too large for my face....

    • @wittyname-sy5je
      @wittyname-sy5je 25 дней назад

      @@user-mz1su7nu5n With my Crystal the headset had a lot of room around the sides of my face. Using velcro spacers can help get the headset fitting right. But if you're not getting a good picture after moving it around then you've probably got bad lenses.
      The Bigscreen Beyond will probably fit your face better due to the facial scan but keep in mind some people are not as satisfied with theirs due to less edge to edge clarity and glare in some scenes. But it's worth giving them a shot, especially if you've already got base stations.
      The only other high-end headset I can think of right now is the VR1 which is more than twice the price and reportedly very front heavy. But if you get the base model with nothing equipped it probably won't be as bad. I'm holding out hope EyeTrackVR can get dynamic foveated rendering working as that could potentially yield an option for Crystal Light users as well as a low-cost alternative for the VR1 (instead of 600 euros currently).
      Best of luck with whatever you end up doing.

    Lack of battery is a good and a bad thing as well. It also means there is no way to have it wireless.
