      I'm going to get my first VR headset and It's going to be used for gaming as well as productivity. The quest has access to things like immersed and a few other things. Can you get that with the Cystal? The one thing that would stop me from getting this is the access to certain apps

    Thank you for your video, I picked up the full fat version of this headset yesterday secondhand for a really good price as i also wanted eye tracking to take advantage of Foliated Rendering.
    Caveat- i only use PCVR for sim racing when i want total immersion.
    My sim rig is hooked up to 4090 + 7800x3D with a 57 inch Double 4K (7680x2160) ultra wide display.
    For PCVR, I had low expectations after owning a HTC Vive Elite XR, Quest 3 and PSVR2 on ps5, none of these are good enough for Sim Racing, just too many compromises.
    It took me 45mins to install and dial everything in and once up and running, my jaw dropped when I fired up ACC and Auromobilista 2.
    I finally realised where PCVR is heading for sim racing - road to 90% realism.
    I am glad the newer light version of this headset is now cheaper so more people can experience this.
    The clarity is soooooo much better than my previous headsets (HTC vive Elite XR, Quest 3) and I am possibly one of the worst offenders who chases frames and ultra high res graphics.
    I know newer or upcoming PCVR headsets are going above 5760x2880 with an even bigger FOV, no idea how people are going to drive those headsets., 5090 better be a beast.
    This headset kills my 4090 as there so much to render. so your PC rig matters and you either need to use upscaling (DLSS or FSR) or compromise on graphics quality).
    Battery issue that everyone complains about, i followed an advice from YT who suggested to plug a USB cable into a fast charge adapter and connect it to the hidden usb c port above the left lens, it works, my battery hasn’t drained at all after a 3hr session and still with 5 bars.
    I think the new Pimax Crystal Light will be a great purchase as long as you have the right PC setup and know your way around settings in Pimax Play. I will try Open Composite / XR next.

    • @VRManCave
      @VRManCave  20 дней назад

      I could not agree more with every single word. I actually didn't know you could plug in the Crystal to sort out the battery issue, but now that I have the Light, I get everything the Crystal could offer besides the dynamic foveated rendering, which I wasn't really using that much anyway.

    Thank you for your review. I'm always wondering when people say they use local dimming in a balanced mode. Is it even noticeable then?
    I have heard that the implementation of Pimax local dimming is weak compared to professional monitors or OLED. Besides immersion, does this bring negative visibility to night races when using local dimming?

    • @VRManCave
      @VRManCave  22 дня назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes Local Dimming Balanced vs. Off is very noticeable. And yes you're right, you can't compare a tiny QLED display to what can be achieved on a 55" or bigger OLED. Local dimming basically allows for better blending of dark areas and light areas, so yes, when racing at night it's a very welcome addition since there will be headlights, tail lights and other lit parts, but there should also be almost pitch black parts, including inside the actual car.

      100% Crystal Light. While I wish it still had eye tracking, everything else is just better. I just had another look at it and it does have that screw. Not entirely sure to be honest what having or not having that screw has to do with the interchangeable lenses. 1) Is the Pimax software a requirement, and if so does it work on Linux? I hear VR is working pretty well on Linux now, but wondered if that was mainly SteamVR only.
    2) How is the binocular overlap for 3d effect? I heard it varies greatly from headset to headset, i.e. PSVR2 is better than most, but reviewers rarely mention it.
    The only VR headset I own is the original Pimax and the software was a pain to work with... and required both that and SteamVR running. And that was while I was still on Windows. Thanks!

Thanks in advance ..

    • @VRManCave
      @VRManCave  День назад +1

      Headset tracking is great with the inside out tracking, but no inside out tracking on earth is as accurate as base-stations. Also, base stations allow you to use Index controllers, which a lot of people prefer as they can't be ocluded by you having your hands behind your back, etc. Also, you can use it in complete darkness with base stations. So the short answer is, for ultima accuracy and/or use in pitch darkness, you would use the lighthouse faceplate. Otherwise for most people, inside out is absolutely fine.

Also I'd say comparing a sub $1K headset like the Crystal Light to the $4K+ Varjo XR-4, which is not even meant for gaming, is not really a fair comparison. With the $3K difference in price you could get a really nice PC, or a Sim Racing or Flight Sim rig that would be incredible if you already have a 4090-powered PC. Regardless, I don't think the XR-4 is worth the pricetag for home use.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare this to a 5 year old headset that has had the same price since launch. The Index was expensive back then, but nowadays it’s just a bad choice for anyone since you can get A LOT more for that price.
      That’s a great idea about having an overlay with the game’s name, thanks, I’ll take that on board for future vids. The games featured in this video were Half Life Alyx, Kayak Mirage, Air Car, Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2.

      The Index display is rubbish even compared to the Reverb G2, let alone the Crystal. $700-$800 U.S. for the Crystal Light is a steal. Don’t blame Pimax for your countries sky high taxes. Also, inside out tracking is far better and less cumbersome for racing and flight sim users. We simply don’t need all those sensors and extra nonsense. To be fair we still pay taxes in the U.S. it’s never included in the price here.

    how can you say tracking is anything like the Q2, i have both and a Q3, the crystal tracking is not good at all, also you failed to mention that that face foam after about 2 weeks starts to get thin and not good at all. very hard on the face build is just cheap all around. but i can say that everything else is awesome. the lens and screeens are great. takes a beast of a gpu... i have a 4070 super and that is not enough to get full benefits out of my Crystal light. Pimax please stock your 15mm face foam, and please fix your tracking

      @@gaminginstilllife9429 my tracking has genuinely been absolutely fine and very close to the Q2 tracking. Not sure if it’s about lighting, the space, or what, but I have not had any issues with it. The facial interface is the same as the one on the original Crystal and I’ve used it for way more than 2 weeks and it looks and feels the same as it did on day one, so not entirely sure what you’re talking about. Including strap weight is such a disingenuous comparison for the weight, especially since you chose completely different strap designs to compare. Of course a halo style strap is going to more heavy than an elite style strap. Yet the halo style strap is still more comfortable.
    What actually matters is the weight of the headsets without any straps included.

    • @VRManCave
      @VRManCave  21 день назад

      That’s totally your opinion. I compared it with that strap because that’s what I use on my Quest 3 after trying every other one on the market and find it the most comfortable. The weight without the headstrap is a useless thing to measure, since no one will ever use a headset without a strap. And regardless, it was just a point of comparison so people know what that weight means, but both are still comfy.

    My Pico 4 with bobovr battery pack back cushion weighs 840grams (extra battery INCLUDED). I don't know from where that over a kilo for Quest 3 and bobovr strap comes from since they are pretty close (Pico4 and Quest3).
    It's a pity that Pimax have some really bad designers and "economists" because that big azz box is actually useless being empty as they actually shown in their video about how it's made in the factory. You pay and wear that cupboard over head because of LAZYNESS of engineering design and stinginess of their accountants. I am pretty sure they just made a huge deal for those shells some years ago.... probably they bought like thousands of them for nothing and now they have them laying around.
    Maybe the screens are good but the rest... bleah.

      I love it when I get comments like these from folks that have never tried it. The BoboVR S3 Pro is heavier than the stock Pico 4 strap + Bobo battery pack, and also the Quest 3 is heavier than the Pico 4 itself. Regardless, 840 grams vs. 925 is an insignificant difference, and the compressed PCVR stream you get on the Pico 4 vs. what you get on this is miles apart. In any case, I'm not encouraging anyone to buy this if they're happy with what they have, so if you're enjoying your Pico 4 and don't feel you want anything more, then I'm nothing but happy for you. If you are by any chance near a location where they're doing the roadshow, just go and try it out and you'll understand what I'm talking about :)

    04:56 --> Through the lens footage literally shows you the sweet spot...and with all that blurriness starting not far from the centre (as you can see), this Pimax Light model's small sweet spot is clearly visible.
    05:04 --> This is NOT through the lens footage...obviously! WHY did you deliberately put the 'cloned' desktop footage here? !!!
    "It's why I don't do 'through the lens' footage very often"
    --> With 'through the lens' footage we can ALL see the size of that crucial sweet spot
    --> Substituting through the lens footage for footage from a cloned screen (that obviously contains NO sweet spot) you are pushing/selling(!) a lie !!!
    --> The majority of VR channels get their free toys by NOT showing through the lens footage ;)

    • @VRManCave
      @VRManCave  3 дня назад

      Gotta love the haters! 😂
      Firstly, the way a camera lens works(especially a wide lens like I have) is very different from how the human eye works. Also, I cannot fit my camera lens inside the facial interface so I had to zoom in a bit.
      Secondly, at 5:04 I never said that’s through the lens footage, and anyone with half a brain can clearly see which one is through the lens and which isn’t.
      Lastly, I don’t try to sell anything, it’s just a review, and if you look at my original Crystal review you’ll see that I specifically say it’s only good for sims, but wouldn’t recommend it for anything else.
      And finally, listen, if you’re unhappy with this video, you can 1. Stop watching, and 2. Make a better review yourself and show us noobs how it’s done.
      Wish you all the best!

      @@VRManCave Nope. You deliberately cut that 'perfect' desktop footage at 5:04 immediately(!) after the real through the lens footage to mislead those not in the know into thinking this was also through the lens footage. Your continued commentary at the 'join' backs this up.
      Unfortunately, you are not alone on RUclips - those walls of HDM's on all the usual suspect channels are obviously freely given on condition a script is stuck to.
      I am a VR enthusiast. I had a Rift CV2 and currently own a Reverb G2, but I am sick to the teeth watching all these 'reviews' where misleading desktop footage is all we see (clearly sticking to scripts).
      Key point: 'through the lens' footage, when done right, very accurately shows the crucial sweet spot. You do this correctly here at 04:56, and I've seen it elsewhere e.g. MRTV, Tyriel - but we still have a situation where >99% of all 'footage' is that blatant, misleading desktop video.
      You can all do better!

      @@ChrisM541 mate I didn’t deliberately do anything, and honestly if anyone decides of they should or shouldn’t get a headset based on through the lens footage, they’re making a huge mistake. Camera lenses, by default, are sharper in the middle than on the edges, and this is even more noticeable with wide angle lenses. I’m truly sorry you feel I tried to mislead people, because I genuinely don’t do through the lens footage specifically because it’s a nonsense method of “showing” clarity, since camera lenses do not match the way a human eye works and show distortion, reflections and other artifacts that are not seen by the human eye. Feel free to fact check me on that one, and try recording your Reverb G2 through the lens using your phone or a camera if you have one handy and see for yourself how much worse it looks filmed through a camera than it does when you’re wearing the headset.
