I got lucky getting my PE800 on Amazon as an “open box” for $250. It arrived and the box was never actually opened. I’ll never get that lucky again, lol.
I bought my first embroidery machine 4 years ago. I got the Brother VM5100 sewing/embroidery combo. Biggest hoop is a 7x12. It was a splurge retirement gift I gave myself and I have loved it so much. First time to have a needle threader and it is the greatest thing ever. I use prewound bobbins from Amazon and my machine does fine with every brand of thread I've tried. I have it serviced once a year and it's oiled then. You don't have to hold the threads when you start because it will knot and bury them for you. It's the most fun I've ever had and I mainly sew for grandkids and gifts.
@@teresamattox9524 I have the same machine and my dealer installed an upgrade a couple of years ago that allows me to use a larger hoop. I think it is 9 x 14. I just retired and haven’t had a chance to use it yet but am looking forward to taking it for a test drive soon.
@@ritakoontz2336 That's great! I didn't know there was a 9x14. I had seen an upgrade awhile back, I think I was 8x8 and 6x10 that I thought about getting. I definitely need to check this out.
I have the SE1900, which is the same embroidery section. Rethreading is incredibly quick and simple, plus it threads the needle as well. Not to be deterred from owning this machine because of thread changes. Love your channel!
This is perfect! I have been wondering if I want to try machine embroidery but I don't want to invest a lot and I know absolutely nothing about embroidery machines. I had no idea there was an affordable machine that is decent. Thank you so much for making this!
One of brother's strengths is their customer service, it's fantastic. Brother's instruction manuals are brilliant, and I actually photocopy and laminate the bits that I struggle with. Most of my electronic devices are brother, and I've never been worried because any problems that arise (not that there has been a lot), customer service is prompt and they actually come across like they want to help!
Hi, I just got my PE800, and I am thrilled. I have always wanted an embroidery machine but never really thought I would be able to get one. I will be watching every video you have on teaching me how to use it and do things. Thanks for using this machine for this video.
Also take it from someone who owns 4 machines, make sure that there is someone in your area who services the brand of machine you purchase. If you buy from a brick and mortar store chances are that there will be a technician there, but if you buy online, you may have to travel far to get serviced. And it is very expensive to mail these machines as they then to be very heavy.
I highly recommend having your machines covered. July last year we had a water leak in the house and the contractors had to rip out dry wall and replace, they didn’t cover anything and turned on a shop vac that put dry wall dust over my whole house. If my machines wouldn’t have been covered it would have ruined them or cost lots and lots of $ for maintenance
Hi! Nice video! I have this machine, the combo version, I did lots of research about oiling because it sounded really odd that it doesn't need any. There are 4 main bearings holding the main shaft and the lower shaft, I am not familiar with the technology but the way I understood is that the inner part of these bearing have pores filled with oil that gets released when the machine is running, and returns to the pores when it cools down. When the stitching count reaches the service point, they change the exhausted bearings with new ones, apparently the service count is around 12 million stitches. Other parts are greased and you don't have to worry about them. I still put a very tiny drop of oil on the moving parts now and then, or you could apply a teflon lubricant making sure the excess doesn't drop on the elctronic components, motors or wires. I suggest doing this only after the warranty has expired though
Great tutorial!!! You have an amazing character. You made the instructions very easy to follow. You have an exceptional way of teaching, leaving the viewer informed and not confused. As a bonus, you are comical.😊👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
My mom bought one of these back in 2019 and I decided during the pandemic I wanted to play more and thankfully caught it when it was at $700 on Amazon and I swear I couldn’t love a machine more! I love the brothread brand and always buy the prewound bobbins for faster use. I’m hoping you do more tutorials with this machine!
Jess, you are one of my favorite bag makers on RUclips because you keep your instructions simple but clear. I have a Husqvarna Viking Rose embroidery machine that I bought in the early 2000’s. It was pretty expensive but you can use bigger hoops. Unfortunately the software is very outdated. Watching your video makes me want to invest in a newer machine Thanks for the great video.
I've been eyeballing this machine for a while. You step by step video was exactly what I was looking for. Hoping to choose a machine while I'm at the sewing expo in Central Fla in Oct and purchase it! Thanks for the video!! You made my choice easier.
I'm so happy you bought the Brother companion machine to my Brother SE1900 (Sewing/Embroidery) It's the exact same machine, yet the SE1900 has 240 Built-in sewing stitches and can sew up to 6mm of fabric thickness, while the 800 should be limited to 3mm.
You’ve totally enabled my crafting habit … buying one of these! I’d love to see start to finish tutorials for snap tabs for purse pals (how do I trim it so nicely) and hand sanitizer holders. Other teacher gifts too!! I also love your idea for quick summer projects!
I got the Brother SE1900 which is the PE800 with the sewing function. I have upgraded to a Babylock Meridian for the 9 1/2 x 14 inch hoop but use my Brother for my sewing. The threader is great, read the instructions or watch RUclips 🤣
Thank you so much for this video. I've watched it over and over again. I decided to get a Brother SE1900 and I tried making some cable holders using your technique with the vinyl on the bottom of the hoop and it worked wonderfully! 😊 thank you thank you!!
Great video!! I have a number of Brother Sewing machines and a 4x4 embroidery machine. I love that they are “ plug and play”. I think if I paid top dollar for a Bernina and it was that complicated to embroider I would have just returned it. I feel like the more you pay, the easier it should be to use, but it’s the opposite.
Excellent video. I just bought my PE800 and can't find comparable videos for the machine on their youtube channel. Never owned a Brother before, so it's been a steep learning curve. You cover all the basics, which is exactly what I needed. I think Brother should pay you for doing what they won't do.
i bought a Brother Disney embroidery machine a few years back all excited wanting to have a go but then got so intimidated as i had no idea how to get going. Thanks for sharing. I now feel that i can get started finally
I bought a brother embroidery machine with a 4x4 hoop as my first embroidery machine to get used to using one. I truly love it! I want the Innovis by brother because I want a bigger hoop size for sure. It was so funny when you were doing certain things I was telling you what to push like you could hear me lol. Like the bobbin start button, etc.
I’m so excited you’re doing videos like this!! Can you show how you cut these things out so nicely!!? And I believe a majority of computerized machines don’t require oil! You just have to get it serviced once a year or so!
I started machine embroidery about 15 years ago and I thought about a Brother machine but my local store only carried Husqvarna Viking and I didn't want to drive an hour and a half to OKC to check out machines. So I purchased a floor model Platinum 950E machine for $1800 and I loved it. It used a card and a card reader which were becoming harder to find so I upgraded that to a Husqvarna Viking Topaz 30 about 10 years ago because it used a thumb drive. My husband got me that machine for Christmas and he paid $3600 for it. I traded that machine in last year for the last machine I will ever have and that is a Husqvarna Viking Epic 2 machine which is the absolute bomb. That machine was on sale in Tulsa for $13,000 with my trade in. I will have to say with all of the bells and whistles it is the easiest machine I've ever used to embroider on. I did not purchase the largest hoop that fits the machine because there really aren't enough designs available for that extremely huge hoop to justify the cost of buying it. The store in Tulsa also carried Brother and they are very, very nice machines. However, since I started with Husqvarna Viking I thought I should stick with that brand so I could continue to use all of the accessories I already had. I do more traditional sewing (garments and quilts) than I do embroidery so a multi needle machine was not something I was interested in.
I've had my Brother Disney embroidery 4 x 4 machine for over 10 years, and I really want another Brother with a larger hoop size, and this is the one I wanted to get. I'm so glad she showed the video. These machines are soooo easy to thread, and I just love Brother! I wish I could afford the Innovis, but can't, so this would be perfect for me... Thank you Jess! Enjoy your new toy! lol...
Hey Jess! Congrats on your new machine! I find that turning down your speed helps when doing embroidery on vinyl. That could be that bump noise you were hearing. I have a Babylock which is made by brother. After 6 years of heavy use, I have never had to hold the thread. I would think there is a needle threader. I can’t see it in the video but should be there given how many time you have to change colors. The Brother/Babylock threaders are great! Nope, won’t need to be oiled. I take mine in for service every 2-3M stitches. Kind of a tuneup. Any oiling is done then.
Hi Jess, I watched you yesterday when you did the open box and set up for the Brother PE800. I am glad i got to see you live. I bought the same machine back in Nov and i have not use it yet. If you could do alot of videos on this machine it would be great. There are a ton of in the hoop projects and the one I want to see even though there are several out there is doing a cover on a mini comp book. I know your very particular and i know you would go a great one. I know you have one but it has too many hooping I think, could be wrong about that one. I will be happy for you to do anything that is with this machine. I am hoping I will start using it soon. Great job yesterday.
Thanks for this video! Just got this machine for my birthday. Since I’m already a bag making follower, it was nice to have the help of my familiar friend
The PE800 was my first embroidery machine. I then got a Ricoma EM-1010. As much as I love my EM-1010, I prefer the PE800 for patches, free-standing lace and other ITH projects. Have fun with your new toy!
@@MariaRodriguez-pg1jv It comes with quite a few designs and fonts. As for purchased designs, I use Embrilliance to merge designs and personalize and then transfer to a flash drive into the PE800. Hope this helps! 😀
that little round nubby disc thing is for changing your sewing machine needle, the screw on your machine needle instead of using a screw driver which is hard to get at use that disc and it is so much easier to get at that screw to loosen it up and tighten it back up.
I just got the PE900 as an early Christmas present from the hubs. I had a tough time with that whole bobbin winding thing… even reading the instructions didn’t help (I must be slow), your tutorial helped so much. I was able to get the bobbin wound and stitched my first picture…. So exciting! Thank you so much for this video
I have 2 Brother sewing machines, which I love. I have been wanting to do machine embroidery for many years, and I have been eyeing the Brother Stellaire Innov-is XJ1, but before I invest in it, I think I can start with this one! Please do some more tutorials from beginning to end explaining materials, stabilizer, how to cut around your design, etc., etc. I love your videos, and I have learned a lot from you! Thank you! 🥰
I truly, truly enjoyed this video!! Your explanations were so fun and easy to watch. Jess, could you please do a tutorial on lettering? Can the fonts on this machine be sized up/down or even widened/flipped… etc.?
I have brother pe770, a tip is dont use the spool caps they can cause issues, and sewers aid is your friend. I love my machine! Enjoy yours🥰 also use water soluble on top of vinyl cause the foot will stick on certain vinyl. And I cover the bottom of shiny vinyl with the paper that comes between your bolts of interfacing. The piece with the instructions. It tears away like butter. Glitter vinyl is the worst for sticking.
I was Hooper at a factory my first year!! I worked my way though the factory and Ended up in the proto design and made Patterns.. Other than my mom , I never been around A sewing machine in my life.. As a man I was supposedly there were lots of men there.. Just as good of Embroidery as our Counterparts..
I had to come back and finish watching. I’ve never oiled my machine but I was taught all machines should go in for cleaning once a year even if you haven’t used it.
First, I have to thank you very much for your efforts at explaining the way of working the machine and also for showing me an example of the wonderful embroidery I will seriously consider buying one thanks alot
Thanks for the advice about this machine,at the present time I am looking for a embroidery machine. Thanks for your help this may just be the one I end up with.
What I have found using Husqvarna Viking is if you have nesting on the bottom of the embroidery it is because of the bobbin tension. That means when you put the bobbin in the bobbin casing, you have to hold your finger on the top of the bobbin while you thread it through the guides. If you don't do that on a Husqvarna Viking machine, the bobbin tension will be out of whack and you will have thread nesting guaranteed.
I have the Brother 1600e, which is the next level up. I don’t believe your machine cuts jump stitches, which was one of the reasons why I didn’t buy it. You don’t need to oil but should take it in for service annually. I only hold my top thread when the stitching is visible on the back in order to avoid nesting. Brother is a great machine and super easy to use. Have fun with it. I love mine!
I have this machine but have been afraid to use it. I am excited for your new tutorials. Especially the hand sanitizer ones. My designs didn’t come with really good instructions so can’t wait to see you make them.
Brother is the best made machines. Best threader. My daughter bought me a Singer Quantum and it is great but soon after trying I broke the threader. Easy and cheap to buy and change but brothers threader has never broke on me on my project runway I gave to my grand daughter. So am buying a Brother Se 630 sewing and embroidery machine in the future.
That's funny, my husband bought me a Brother Project Runway machine. I love it. I've sewn a.little bit for years, but am trying to learn more. Still loving my Project Runway. Maybe eventually get a nicer one. When a bag of money falls down from the sky. Haha
I just bought the Bernina 770 and am so eager to try the embroidery package. I’m sitting with one of the store staff on Monday to make sure I have it set up correctly and have a better knowledge of it. Then I’ll be ready to make some of your 😊 cute Santa’s and other projects!
I have this machine only in the PE770 Brother. Works wonderful. This machine and the 770 have the same hooping clamp The only thing is the way the hoop attaches to the arm. It gets hard to attach the hoop after awhile and the embroidery arm gets lose. Other then that work well, sews very nice
Looking forward to more videos with this Brother machine (magnetic bobbins,...)! Embroidery is a complete new world for me, so looking forward to learn a lot. Thank you very much for this video! Enjoyed it a lot!
I wouldn’t hoop vinyl anyway. It’ll leave marks. I use a stabilizer that has an adhesive side. Your fabric will not move! I also use a temporary spray adhesive like KK2000 to hold down fabric.
In January 2021 I bought a Baby Lock Vere with a 4 X 4 hoop, I love it! Expect for being held back by the hoop. I didn't do enough research about hoop size. But, I am finding all kinds of things to do. Key Fobs, Hair Clips small items.
thank you so much for this video…i am a TRUE beginner that just purchased the brother se 600 and i cant wait to know what i’m doing so that i can upgrade!! ttfn
Thank you so much for this! I didn’t realize you could do embroidery on vinyl! You have an amazing way to explain things. Thank you! Love your space as well❤
I'm not judgey mcjudgey here but my sewing machine tech says to NOT use prewound bobbins. He said they are wound too tight and causes nicks to happen in the bobbin case.
Might I suggest that for ppl who are still able to see close up and have manual dexterity, THAT is the best time to familiarise yourself with needle threaders. Creating muscle memory while you CAN still see and manipulate will help enormously when those faculties start to wear off. It'll be a lot easier to use if your fingers already know what to do.
How about a little talcum powder to stop sticking on the surface of the PE800. I sprinkle a very small amount on the surface and wipe it off with paper towel, works great at making material flow through smoothly. I use it on my SQ9285 sewing machine.
No oolong on a Brother or BabyLock! But annual service is recommended if you are really using your machine. Nice demo! Keep that manual close, though! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this unboxing tutorial. This is the machine I have been eyeing - I would love to see some more tutorials so I can be really sure it's the one I want. Could you do tutorials showing (1) using more than one thread color in a design; (2) showing everything you need to buy in addition to the machine to get started - stabilizer, thread, scissors, etc.; (3) difference in the stablizers and how do you know which one to use; (4) how to cut out the finished design. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are very professional and delightfully entertaining!!! This complement is heartfelt. Does this Brother PE800 accept designs that we draw ourselves? Ya know, draw it, take picture, download, etc.??? If the answer yes, could you demonstrate? 🦇
You don't have to oil it and the jumping sometimes means you don't have enough stabilizer in that particular area. I use scraps of stabilizer for dense projects. I've had my machine for over a year and love it. 90% of what I do are Connie's designs
I have a brother sewing machine as my first as well and this is what I used to learn on. Now I would like to know what’s the best inexpensive serger out there for someone like me that wants to learn how to use one. I find it would come in handy with some of my projects. Thank you, I really enjoy your videos and they inspire me to challenge myself and try new things.
I have the SAME clicking noise with my Brother LB5000. 4" HOOP :( The noise is coming from the Bobbin door. I put a piece of low tack masking tape over the Bobbin door and the cluck sound goes away. 🎶 I think Brother should make a metal door for the Bobbin area.
I have a Babylock Verve that only had a 4x4 hoop. I made great tees with flower logos for our Mother’s Day outing. But I want to make more in the hoop projects and it is too small for most. One project for back to school is a chapstick holder and it needs just a bit more space than I have. But I can embellish it first, then see it raw edges on the machine.
Thank you for the video. I Have never embroidered but always wanted to. I received the PE900 for Christmas and am excited to use it. I’ve watched a lot of videos but like your fun attitude. May I ask, what is a snap thingy you did at the end of the video? You have a new subscriber!

Does the PE800 comes with the software?
@@MariaRodriguez-pg1jv It comes with quite a few designs and fonts. As for purchased designs, I use Embrilliance to merge designs and personalize and then transfer to a flash drive into the PE800. Hope this helps! 😀
that little round nubby disc thing is for changing your sewing machine needle, the screw on your machine needle instead of using a screw driver which is hard to get at use that disc and it is so much easier to get at that screw to loosen it up and tighten it back up.
Ah ha! Thank you!
I use it to tighten the hoop also.
Thank you! 🥰
Yes, I would appreciate tutorials on embroidery. Thank you!
Great video I just ordered this machine and have been watching videos. Yours is one of the best to set up, thank you.
Haha
I've just recently decided that I'm getting into the embroidery business...thank you for this content!
I have been looking at this machine for awhile. Thank you for the demo. Can't wait to see more.
The threading system looks just like my Baby Lock…if it is the same, you will love the needle threader!
The threader works great on my machine. My Bernina not so much, but the Brother threader is awesome.
That's awesome! I agree you can get very creative with a 4x4, and there are lots of projects available for it. I was debating on a 4x4 as well.
@@OklaRoots what’s the biggest size this model can do?
thank you so much for this video…i am a TRUE beginner that just purchased the brother se 600 and i cant wait to know what i’m doing so that i can upgrade!! ttfn
I want this machine very badly and I'm glad you did an unboxing of it. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this! I didn’t realize you could do embroidery on vinyl! You have an amazing way to explain things. Thank you! Love your space as well❤
I kind of wanted this machine, now I really want one. Maybe a pre-owned one. 🤔
Jess thank you for the video. I just bought this machine to try out embroidery -so I am really going to love your future videos.
Have fun!
The Bernette deco 70 is the BEST bang for the buck! Software and 3 hoop sizes! It reads all types and all
Love this video!!! Thank you for doing the demo 🥰. I do not own an embroidery machine but would love to have one.
I'm not judgey mcjudgey here but my sewing machine tech says to NOT use prewound bobbins. He said they are wound too tight and causes nicks to happen in the bobbin case.
My tech said the opposite, FWIW.
Thanks for the unpack of the Brother PE800. I won this machine a few months ago and have yet to take it out of the box.
Get that beauty out of the box Becky!
How about a little talcum powder to stop sticking on the surface of the PE800. I sprinkle a very small amount on the surface and wipe it off with paper towel, works great at making material flow through smoothly. I use it on my SQ9285 sewing machine.
Adjust the bobbin bumper with screwdriver to allow fuller bobbins :)
you're my new instructor to building my skills so i can be self employed.
You are awesome doing this video!!
Love how you show all the technology of this machine !😃😃😃
I love Brother embroidery. I’ve had 3 so far.
Thank you I didn’t know I needed a embroidery machine .. 🤓🤣
No oolong on a Brother or BabyLock! But annual service is recommended if you are really using your machine. Nice demo! Keep that manual close, though!
Thanks!
Oops! Oiling
Yes. They will usually get oiled in the yearly service if it is required, no need to do it yourself.
I've never used my 4X4 hoop. My B70 Deco does 6X10, but I usually use my 5x7
What was the name of the person you mentioned that has embroidery designs? I didn’t see it in your show notes. Thankyou, great video.
“You’re pretty, I like you”😂 you made me laugh
Pretty sure my husband tried to "woo" me with that line. I didn't speak to him for a few years after that.... :)
🤣
I brought a brother sewing machine (not embroidery ) this week, and it says to book it in for maintainance when needed and it will include oiling.
That's what I'm hearing! I do like to oil my machines, so this will be interesting.
Thank you for the double needle information!
“Oh you’re preeeetttty, I like you.” 😭😭😭😭✨ FOLLOWED
I Jess I have the Brother NQ3500D and this is similar you have to put 2 drop of oil in the hole of your bobbin and in the side
Once you said “oky, doky, ardichoky i said she is my kind so I immediately subscribed and liked. ❣️
Yay!!! Was waiting for this. Just got my new machine...perfect timing!! Whoop!!
I believe there is a trace feature on the machine to avoid hitting the hoop and I believe it maybe self oiling.
That's so creative Betty!
Thank you for the video. I Have never embroidered but always wanted to. I received the PE900 for Christmas and am excited to use it. I’ve watched a lot of videos but like your fun attitude. May I ask, what is a snap thingy you did at the end of the video? You have a new subscriber!
Hi Jess. I wish you did this video before I bought mine Brother PE550D. I’m new to your channel and I do love it.
I hope you talk about the problems that happened because of tension and who to solve it thank you
Yes attach the embroidery unit before turning it on.
Thanks for a great tutorial. I am new to embroidery and so happy to learn some tricks from you.
You are so welcome!
If you have a Circuit/Silhouette/ScanNCut you can have the machine cut your fabric for you in the exact size, saving you an extra step!
I have a question please? I have the PE 800. But what memory stick is the best one to use? I have heard so many things that it has just left me very frustrated. Thank you for your excellent tutorials!
Love the video Jess! I'm a Brother's lady myself😊 I have the SE1900 its pretty great👍Thank you and as always stay well
I have a Brother PE800 and will use your videos to learn how to use it. Lots of information.
What are those wooden dolls called in your room...up on the left hand side of your wall.?
