    UPDATE - as of the fall of 2019 KTM has retired the XC1 dealer programming tool which allowed for out of vin ecu flashing (euromap) and the XC2 doesn’t allow for it. If you have a preciously unlocked ecu you can still have it reflashed, but if yours has the US map the door has closed on that option.

      @@TACOMOTOCO The combo of the GET and the Promoto billet end cap is amazing! Complete monster when you have the traction to put the power down! I thought it would be a little louder and I'm glad it's not. It's an awesome throaty sound without being ridiculous and to have the power without being too loud is cool. I wish I could have done an actual back to back comparison but I had sent my suspension off to Kreft before I ordered the ECU and end cap. So I had 3 or 4 weeks between riding on the stock ECU/suspension and GET/end cap/new suspension. I couldn't be happier, thanks again Mike!

    So for the guys who are riding a dinosaur like me(2013 500 XC-W). Another alternative is the Dynojet PCV (5) It is kinda in between a piggyback and a new ECU. It installed like a piggyback but allows you to change fuel and ignition at numerous poins on a throttle position and RPM graph. It is definitely for the guy who likes to tinker or has access to a dyno, because the number of pre compiled maps isn't great. I chose to run an O2 sensor and map switch on my setup. You can run both, one or the other, or neither, depending on your preference. Having said all that I like the Dynojet but if the GET ECU was an option for the 12 to 17 500's I would be tempted to check it out for the simplicity of not having to run all the piggy back plugs.

    Matter of fact, tomorrow I am going to look at a 2017 500 that comes with a Vortex ECU. (Also been uncorked and desmogged.) But the Vortex is one of the things that appealed to me about this bike. I fully expect it to run well when I take it for a test ride, but if I buy the bike, I wonder how I can know if the ECU has been tuned and properly configured for this bike? Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

    TPIs dont need more fuel they need different injection timing.
    They inject on the piston down stroke so most of the fuel goes straight up the t ports and the whole bottom end doesnt get any fuel cooling.
    It gets oil ok but that doesnt cool the crank and rod and piston like a carb engine does.
    Parts that run hot are more prone to failure no matter how much oil they are getting.
    Ive retimed my TPI to inject 5 degrees after bottom dead center and obviously removed the oil injection system and use premix.

    Question , I’m guessing the 02 sensor is now dead weight ? Ecm will no longer need its input to calculate air to fuel mixture ? It will now use pre Proggramed map and the barometric pressure sensor for elevation changes correct ? I wish the o2 sensor was still used for the aging of the parts , like less fuel pressure or dirty injectors over time . The 02 has a lot of benefits .

    I saw somewhere that enriching the fuel will let the rest burn in the catalytic converter and fry it. And that enriching will keep the catalytic converter from getting up to working temp while it just smolders under a lot of fuel and prematurely wears out out. Any truth to that? That said, I am looking for the best way to get rid of off throttle lag and still stay legal on a 701. And not be loud. I know that's a stretch. Is why I was wondering.

    • @TACOMOTOCO
      @TACOMOTOCO  3 года назад +1

      Think of this like a thermostat on your A.C. system. It came pre programmed from the manufacturer to operate in a range from 70-75 deg. It will self adjust in that range.
      But you have parties in your house with all the people and beer pong going on it gets to be almost 85 in there, the T-stat is indicating it’s 85 and yelling at the A.C. unit to cool more but it ain’t gonna do it.
      Mods on your bike are the party and the map in your ecu is the 5 deg spread.
      If you could change the map you could party.
      But if you can’t you install a piggy back tuner or a new ecu.

    • @whiskeythrottleracing
      @whiskeythrottleracing 3 года назад +1

      Thank you for answering that question, Mike. It seems the 02 sensor on the head pipe would be able to make the force the ECU to adjust air -fuel to maintain a consistent and correct ratio especially with these minor flow changes. Otherwise it's just a very expensive worthless piece of junk.

      Can’t go wrong with either one. Both are solid choices. Try the EJK and see what you think, if it feels lacking then you can always sell it and upgrade to the vortex. Call me Monday, I think I have a demo tuner for your bike

    Hi there
    First of all, I must admit this is an excellent video!
    However, here is some unusual question, I got KTM 500 EXC - 2014 for a really good price, however after a few rides I realized that this thing very hard to control for me. I not a pro rider and my rides usually single tracks and technical trails.
    Here is the question: What would be the best way to reduce the power of "500 EXC" to make it more suitable to single tracks?
    Is there a way to make it easy to ride some kind of traction control that you have mentioned in this video?

    • @TACOMOTOCO
      @TACOMOTOCO  4 года назад +2

      That’s not an unusual request at all. In fact I have the same desire for my 500. I want it to be Ann all kit race bike sometimes and a reliable trackable single track bike. I have that spread of performance with the GET ecu and the traction control knob.

    Euro map: He says too lean up top, too lean with some mods, same thing he says about the TPS hack. Sure sounds a lot like the TPS hack is a free euro tune. Might work well without mods or with mild mods...

    If I just want to add a slip on FMF 4.1 and remove emissions, do you think an EJK will suffice for keeping the bike from being too lean? Or would it be worth the $700 for the vortex?

      You’d have to source a connector compatible w the GET and wire it in. Not sure why you’d want to bother since the PRO kit comes w one.

      Works w the vortex because it’s tc like the stock ecu is single mode on/off.
      The get varies the to between an influence rate of 1-10, so no on that one.

    What puzzles me is that, do these ECU controlled bikes have built in CDI in the ECU or how does it produce the high voltage for the ignition coil since the coil is the same coil from 1996 KTM? ECU and CDI don't go well together because of how much noise and interference CDI produces in the system (as far as I know) so I just don't understand how it works without COP. My knowledge of electrics isn't that great.

    • @TACOMOTOCO

      In the FI bikes the ignition control is handled by ecu

      Mmmm, ya, about that claim.
      No 500 is making 70hp on 91 pump gas on a stock piston and stock cams running a Dobeck EJK fuel tuner. That’s not real. Not even close.
      And the stock bike doesn’t make anywhere near the claimed base power. Not even close either.
      No respected power development tuner is coming in anywhere near these claimed numbers with their testing - and yet all these respected tuners are coming in relatively close with their numbers. Go figure.
      Everyone is getting about 42-43 from a stock bike and HP Racing Development - one of the most respected and highly regarded tuner and engine builder with multiple engines this year in super cross has been able to get about 56 out of a stock internals 500 managed by a custom tuned race GET ECU and an akropovoc slip on.
      I WISH 70 was possible from this engine without pouring a TON of money into it to the tune of multiple thousands - but it’s not - and no amount of false claims will make that so.
