FAQ's:
Q: None of the test here found the issue and it wont display to an external monitor either.
A: If none of the tests here identified the issue and the computer wont even display to an external monitor, then your most likely looking at a motherboard issue. It would then need to be replaced. If you would like help with that operation, let me know :)
Q: The test here don't work but I was able to get it to display to an external display. What now?
A: If the steps seen here do not help but you can get the computer to display to an external monitor, then you have identified the issue as either your LCD Cable or the LCD itself most likely. Try reseating the LCD Cable. See if refreshing the connections help. If not, replace the Cable and the LCD one at a time. Наука

Hi: Thanks for your video! So I have gone through the steps of removing the coin battery, removing each of the Ram modules. Did some 60 second reboots. Still black. I have ordered the coin battery to try replacing it. I have also ordered a laptop battery. There is where my questions lies. If when I plug it in with laptop battery removed, the blue power on light shows (not talking about hte amber battery light), but screen still stays black. Also, I don't hear the fan starting at all. So, first question, should I take the new laptop battery out of its packaging and try it? Or should I return it as that is not the issue? Second, should I order a new screen and replace it? Third question, how do I know if it is the motherboard? Thanks for aany help you can render.
you, my friend are a legend. You did something a 1 hour session with microsoft support couldn't.
I had almost given up on my old laptop, but re-seating the RAM worked like a charm! Also got a CMOS battery error on startup, and because of this video, I know what that is! So thanks very much!

My laptop wouldn't turn on when it was hot-I thought it was overheating. I wasn't able to restart it! I could hear the fan whirring and whirring, the power button would light up, but the screen was black. I did what you said in this video- took out RAM, replaced the small battery, and now I get not even a fan turn on! It didn't matter what RAM was out- it still would not turn on. In fact, the power button is blinking. I tried the other video too (black screen on turn on) but that didn't work. I think it's trashed. That will teach me to back up my files. Grrr. Thanks for your informative videos! You are easy to follow and understand.
This is very helpful! Reseating the RAM solved my problem. Thank you! (Getting the cover off the bottom was a struggle though. Even after the screw was loosened, the cover was sticking in place. Finally managed to pry it off using more force than I expected would be needed.) This laptop is 10 years old but still working well with Windows 10---now that your video showed me how to fix it, it has a chance to last some more years.

thanks for the video. In your experiences would bad ram stick or bad CMOS battery keep the laptop from booting the hard drive? Hi ! I am trying to fix my Black screen, and I will remove both RAM sticks, and see if that works. This just started less than three days ago. I do have another question, I pulled the front plastic frame away from the screen and noticed that the white cord with the eyelit connector was connected on the right, on the 4th screw (from the outside moving toward the middle) yet, on the left side, the eyelit is disconnected. Is that correct ? I wish I could take a pic and send it so you could see. This is not the first time I have had issues. Please respond - Thank you - Jen
I dont understand the 'eyelit' connector issue. I am not familiar with that term. However, if your computer starts up fine, but the screen is not working, this is the correct troubleshooting video. Let me know how it goes :)

@@PC_Monkey hey i tried all this (i have the same laptop and couldnt get it to work.) My laptop suddenly stopped working 1 day after trying turn it off. I play a game on it, and when the game is running theres barely like any ram free. I accidently opened like 20 tabs in my browser which im sure make it so there was no free ram anymore, and my computer became somewhat unresponsive. I forced shut it down by holding the power button. after that, my laptop would not turn on anymore. IT did manage to turn on once when i removed the battery and left it alone for a few hours, but then stopped again when i tried to reconnect the battery and turn it back on. Do you have any idea what it might be?

Okay, so thank you for helping me first off! It was the ram I took out and placed again and now my laptop works, but now a the question where I ask? Do I now need to replace the ram? Or is it just a malfunction that could happen with any ram?
No, you may not have to replace it. Sometimes they come loose and you just need to re-plug it in to get it working again :)
Thanks. This actually worked. Appreciate this so much.

Thank you so much. My Toshiba laptop has similar issue but with strange behavior. If I open the screen just a little while Windows boots up, and when the boot up completes I can fully open the screen and see thing. But if I fully open the screen while windows boots up, the screen is black even though I am sure Windows finishing up booting and then running. I varified this by connecting another old monitor. I wonder what is causing this
1. The external monitor showed windows fine and you could use the computer but your own screen was black?
2. Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?
Hey man I have the same exact model that you have
I have opened the back cover and was surprised to find that the battery with its holder missing
Could you elaborate and tell me what to do to fix it
If your battery is missing then I would first replace it. Its always hard to troubleshoot a computer when multiple things are wrong. This video is for a computer that starts but the screen does not work. If thats your issue, have you followed the steps seen here?
Evening Sir, I also have a Toshiba Satellite L655 and the screen has gone dim/black on adjusting the angle of the screen last week. Frustrating as the other Toshiba screen has a cable issue SO no PC available to use at this crucial moment. L55 works through a monitor but the screen cable appears to be ok. However the screen has been working intermittently when I place a soft object under the base of the laptop to the back right hand side this is no where near the Screen cable. Therefore the question - If not the screen cable what is the problem - memory ? Thanks in advance
It could be either if then component has become loose or worn. Try reseating the RAM sticks. If either RAM port are noticeably loose, then you may have found your issue. Same with the LCD Cable on the port to the LCD and the port to the Motherboard. If that fails to fix it, replace the LCD Cable.
thank you, fixed in the first try, it was a ram stick issue. thank you so much

🏆 Thank you so much. I removed the ram stick, reinserted it and the screen started working.
My only issue now the keyboard and touch screen isn't working. I bought a new keyboard, opened the laptop, plugged the new keyboard ribbon into the motherboard and it works. I would do the install myself but it's one of these models Toshiba satellite L50t-b-13u where the keyboard is buried underneath everything and you can't access it without opening laptop from the bottom and using a solder iron. Too advanced for me.
I really love this laptop. It has everything I need. I think it'd be too expensive to repair.

I have a rather recent and an interesting problem in my Toshiba Satellite L650-11f laptop, my screen is black till Windows 10 login comes up. So, my screen is black during Bios and during OS selection (I have also Ubuntu installed). So, blindly I choose Windows from the list (which is at the end), or if I do not touch, the first one which is Ubuntu is loaded. Once the OS's are loaded, the screen turns on. Also, in display settings in Windows, it shows two displays, but when I click detect, it only detects one. And in device manager, it shows two monitors, Generic Pnp monitor and Generic non-pnp monitor. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
Thanks for your video buddy. I'd really would need your help with my laptop.
My Toshiba satellite s50 series shows keyboard light, touch screen light, fan, HDD work.
I touched some of the key chips and I felt them warm. The battery is currently not working.
I've also followed your troubleshooting guide and nothing comes up, even with an external monitor. Do you think it's motherboard and is there a way to repair it, maybe remove a chip or something?
Thanks for your reply 🤝
Yes, its most likely the motherboard if the steps seen here didnt find the issue including the external monitor test. I wouldnt be able to tell you whats wrong with the motherboard without looking at it. I can say that most of the time with most computers, its just as cheap if not cheaper to just purchase another used board rather than fix the broken one.

What if you have a Toshiba Satellite c875-s7304 that powers on but no screen. It will come on only if you have an external monitor hooked up from before you power it on. Both laptop and monitor come on. You can then unplug the external monitor and it’ll stay on. When you reboot though, same issue. Dead screen. Power down, hook up external and turn it on again. Tried battery, cmos, ram, etc.

When i replaced HDD i could hear windows 10 sounds but no display .. if GPU is bad would windows start .. you sir , as an expert what to you think ...
If you have already changed all those components and the computer wont display to an external monitor, then my first guess would be a motherboard issue. If you have already replaced it, then Id say try another one as that one may be bad

In a small town all repair folks say is buy a new computer....I want this one...Does it sound like a wire got looser n looser? I got one screw that won't come loose, maybe lube will help,,,I'll look for LCD link...ya think the hinge cable came loose??? Thanks rjs
Sorry I wasnt clear. Is it displaying to an external monitor?
The only way I ever could use the VGA to an external monitor, etc. was by a drop down scroll ON SCREEN....(it has the F5 key logo but didn't work before the screen EVENTUALLY ,GRADUALLY progressively went black... So it didn't go out all at once, but had to tilt screen down more n more for a year or so....seems a cable came loose or got frayed from opening????....the opening n tilting the screen more n more to use...? Isn't that a hint?
Thanks for any insight...

@@randyshroder8577 If you have to move the screen to affect the display then yes, most likely your looking at a loose or damaged LCD Cable or even a damaged LCD Cable port on the LCD. Great video, but I wish you showed what the lcd cable looks like, and where it's located. Or did I overlook that part?! 😅
LCD cable runs from the back of the LCD to the Motherboard. Usually runs through the left side hinge assembly. Its usually the only wire that runs through there.

@@PC_Monkey I think I found the problem. I removed both ram chips and it booted up. Your video stated to remove one at a time. When i did that there was still no screen. I removed both at the same time and wala! I guess this is a rare occasion where both chips are bad!??? Thank you.

Hi there , my toshiba screen doesn't show anything. I tried reseating the ram, changed cmos battery, changed the hard disk but still can't get it fixed. Can you give your suggestion in order to fixed black screen. By the way i didn't change the lcd cable and screen yet and does it need to do so?
If the screen is black, what are the signs the computer is on? Lights? Sounds? Fan?
My issue is that the Toshiba laptop starts up and then the Win10 OS boot up dots circling round (We used to call it in the apple world as the "kernel" startup) and it hangs there for 15 minutes or so. I have started it up in Repair Mode and tried to repair it but then get a message that repair can't "fix" the problem. I believe I have a hard drive issue since it is an old HD or Win 10 maybe totally "blown". I don't want to reinstall 10 cause that will wipe my data out so is there anything that you can suggested to do? Thanks
Are you able to try the steps seen here? ruclips.net/video/2Hh1wIS9NDo/видео.html
What screwdriver do you need for this I can’t seem to find the right one
Its a small phillips but other computers can be different. Its usually a small phillips or a small hex
PC Monkey thanks
Hi sir! tried some of your advices but unfortunately, nothing happened. I tried to reset my laptop on the factory reset settings(windows 10) and it failed and said "Error resetting this PC". I shut it down and turn it on again. And then the problem appears as there is no display on the screen. Black screen then dim. Turns out like its looping. Please help me :(
Does your computer turn on and the screen stay black? If so, your on the correct video. Have you tried the steps seen here? Were you able to get it to display to an external monitor?
