      Anybody can restore old street rods from the factory.
      It's building it to a real customized car and using your brain and doing it differently then a stupid normal restoration car.

    Owned an 1989 Thunderbird SC and I already said all the words you were thinking changing out the injectors! Yes that wing can be installed as a dealer item or from the factory. Solenoids stick so change it. I have no idea why. I loved it enough to pass it and a Lincoln Mark III and IV to my son and daughter's. They still look and run showroom new. Now I drive a 2006 Ford Escape with 328,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ!

    These cars are so underrated. My dad had a '90 and I absolutely loved it. Miss it still. The v8 ones didn't have jack for the old SC's and it was a absolute ball even in the passenger seat having him taking them to gabblebees. Certified sleepers 🤘 I'd love to get one for myself one day. Good to see you saved this one! I go nuts whenever I see one.. They're gorgeous cars. Well done my man.

    If you want a good Thunderbird story, back in the early 90's I bought a clean '64 from a neighbor. They'd had it since new, drove it a lot, but took it out only once in awhile after getting newer cars. The T-bird had exhaust leaks, but looked beautiful. I coughed up $700, and drove it home. The car had a 390 V8, the exhaust sound was loud under the hood, and it sometimes stalled when it got warm. I found the stalling was caused by a pinched fuel line. The exhaust leak was caused by cracked exhaust manifolds. If you know the 390, you know it's wide, and the exhaust bolts are hard to get to. Despite a good soaking in PB Breaker, half the bolts broke off in the heads. Anyway, I went out to the "Pick your Part" to try to find a set of 390 exhaust manifolds, and in the early 90's they didn't grow on trees. The guy at the Pick Your Part said to come the next day, they were bringing out some old Fords, and one looked like a 390.
    The next day I showed up early and they started bringing out the cars. One of them was a mid-60's 2-door Mercury. Once the set it down, I opened the hood, and saw two 4 barrel carbs and gold-colored valve covers. It was a 427 Marauder. I paid a Mexican guy passing by $20 to go get me an engine lift, and I sat on the car until he rolled it up. I pulled out the engine, exhaust, and the transmission, and altogether, the parts cost me $250. Putting the 427 in place of the 390 in my T-Bird was about has hard as putting on a t-shirt. I found out that the dual 4 barrels used a lot of gas when driving stupid (which was most of the time), and I had to replace the 5/16 fuel line with 3/8.
    I sold the car when I enlisted in the Army. Someone told me the person I sold it to parked it on their family's farm in Central California, and that it is still sitting there today. If anyone sees a root-beer colored 65 T-Bird in the countryside near UC Davis, buy it quick.

    Something similar to Papa and his saving the oil- I worked at an oil change shop 21 years ago. The owner had a thing he built with a huge funnel on top of it, where you could put like 5 or 6 oil bottles in it, and it all ran down into 2 five gallon buckets. Just a mix of all weights and brands of oil. Who knows it was a that point, maybe a 13W-35? IDK what he did with it. He took it home every now and then.

    • @acelacrocker2958
      @acelacrocker2958 Год назад

      My understanding is that in 1988, whatever company that was making the 3.8 Essex's head gaskets removed the asbestos from the formula, and didn't bother to replace the missing ingredient resulting in a weaker gasket; the problem never really got sorted out until sometime around the mid to late 90's. By that time, the 3.8 Essex was already starting to be on its way out.

Loved the video by the way, I'm from New Zealand but I live in Australia, a good buddy of mine back in NZ had a Tbird the same that he bought from someone who shipped it over from the US second hand, cool car but it turned out that it was going to be so expensive to do the left-right driver side conversion that it basically wasn't worth it, as far as I know its still sitting in his shed 10 years later.

    I was a big Lincoln guy back in the day. Had three, a '79 Conti '81 Mark VI a '92 Mark VII H.O. The '79 had a wasp nest behind the outside driver mirror glass. sprayed and washed the nest out. Went to visit a fiend a few miles away. I stopped in his driveway. Do you know that wasp FOLLOWED me all the way to his house?? When I parked that little bugger went right back behind the mirror glass! I was driving about 40mph all the way to my buddy's house! BTW I love your "little gang" Rocky is so cool always wanting to help lol

    Speaking of bushings, these cars deteriorate very quickly. Mine was garage kept it’s entire life, never driven in snow. Again it had 36k miles on it. Every bushing was shot. I have almost replaced every single bushings in the whole car.

    LOL I had a 92 TB SC, was a amazing car when it was not broken down LOL I did every thing with that car, my dad bought it brand new and I had to go through the entire thing, motor trans, head gaskets, brakes, suspension. The brakes was a none stop headache. hard to find parts. I finally converted it over to normal brake booster and a ford explorer Mater cylinder. fun car to drive though
