Yes, but if you're talking about Steam type games, you're gonna be upset. It's not designed for gaming, so I would look for something with a more advanced graphics card (GPU)
You're actually asking two questions here. One, yes you can play ANY game off an external hard drive. You just need to make sure you point the installation to that drive during initial install. Secondly, whether or not the machine has the graphics capability to play Steam games, I can't say. The FPS seemed pretty decent with my flight sim as show in the video, but I suppose it depends on *which* Steam game you want to play. Worst case, get the PC and send it back if it doesn't work out for you. But I think you're probably ok. Just don't try to play Fortnite on it :)
@@AskYourComputerGuy how can I download steam games onto my external hard drive from my laptop is it harder than just downloading to the regular drive becuase my computer can handle the games
You download the same way you always would. But during installation, you specify your external drive as the location to install to. Upside is that it doesn't take up space on your C drive. Downside is a) you have to have the external plugged in to play and b) if your external is a spindle drive and you have SSD internally, your game is going to run much slower
@@AskYourComputerGuy oh and question one time my computer automaticity connected to a public WIFI network and a few days my computer I belive got a virus I fixed it though but could I have gotten a virus from just connecting to the network
If they replaced it, and you are still getting the same issue, my first guess would be your monitor. You have to look at what is common to both problems. In this case, the monitor
@@AskYourComputerGuy its an old monitor so you suggest another monitor? I think that is the problem, I hooked up both cables for the monitor I unhooked one and it came on! Thank You! If I have anymore problems I will let you know! Thank you again!!!
That is odd. Have you tried using file explorer to see if the drive is a) recognized and if so, b) has any content on it? It could just be that Windows is not auto-playing DVD's, which is a simple fix. We have to determine if the drive is bad or if it's something else altogether
@@AskYourComputerGuy I hit windows icon and E and the only drive that comes up is Acer C. I have made sure auto play is on and many other things, it just doesn't work!
If drive C is the only letter that is showing up, that indicates that your CD or DVD drive is not being assigned a drive letter. There is only two reasons for that. One is a hardware problem, meaning for some reason the DVD drive is faulty and Windows is not recognizing it. The other possibility is a Windows corruption somehow. The only fix for that would be to do a factory restore, back to factory settings, which I would recommend before proceeding. After a factory restore, if the drive is still not visible, you now have a warranty claim and should proceed that way
You absolutely can, but because it is a small form factor PC, you will have to get add-on cards which are specifically designed for small form factor machines. Traditional cards won't work. You'll need what are called "half-height" cards. But you absolutely can find and install them
@@AskYourComputerGuy is it possible for you to make a tutorial on how to do that in the future? Or maybe link a good tutorial I could use in the future? Thanks
Thanks for asking. It's really not something worthy of its own video, although I'm sure someone has made one. Simple as this...there are two types of add-on cards, standard (full and mid-size "traditional" desktop tower) cards, then the other, which are half-height cards for small form factor machines. There are infinite different types of carda (PCI, PCI-E, etc), but those are compatibility types based on what your motherboard supports. But the SIZE of the card, there's only the two varieties, standard and half-height. This one uses the latter
Mine won't even get past the boot window, and it's brand new out of the box from Walmart. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong because Google is no help.
Well I'll be honest with you... If you literally just picked it up at Walmart and you're already having problems, I would box it back up and take it right back and go grab another one off the shelf. If that isn't an option, I might need a little more information from you as to what the problem would be. But so far that machine is not giving me a lot of happy vibes as far as longevity
I bought one recently. Looking to upgrade the GPU finding it near impossible as I'm a noob and the power supply is low in these things so iv no idea only one I think I can put in is a 1030
I think so, probably. The video quality is stellar. As far as FPS, maybe not so much, but you don't need high FPS for Sims, really. I say yes. You saw how well it ran the flight sim, so I think you'd be just fine!
I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't last as long as any other PC. Quality build, but just like anything else, it's electronic, so best to always add extra warranty regardless:)
looking into this computer, is it good for things like steam games for example, sims 4, minecraft, things like that? also if i wanted to improve the gaming experience on this laptop what would I have to do / what would I have to upgrade?
It should absolutely be fine for games like Sims or Minecraft, flight sims, etc. I wouldn't recommend trying to play C&C or COD, but for "average" games it would be fine. You can always add extra RAM if needed, and even a dedicated GPU, but it wouldl ikely have to be what's called a "half-height" card (not a full-size "standard" GPU) because of the size of the case. Harder to find, but they exist. Thanks for your questions! :)
Do you mean how to upgrade your existing storage and RAM? Just so I understand what you're asking? If so, I'm actually working on that video right now :)
Good deal. Like I said, I'm working on that video now, taking an older slower laptop and giving it a horsepower boost with more disk space (SSD) and more memory. Thx for your comment, stay tuned for the video to be released soon :)
got one...nothing but a laptop in a desktop case..not a bad pc for downloading shows movies etc.if we need gaming we use our play stations/etc.only 165.00 for ours
You can't downgrade from factory if you buy it with 11. But..when purchasing, you often can choose 10 for the OS, which I recommend. Even with 11, you can still install Windows 10, but you basically have to wipe the PC and install "clean". I made a video on how to do that if you'd like the link
Everything I read says you can put 16mb memory. Mine only will use one 8mg. There are two slots. As a PC to surf the net it is a great Acer is selling them for 99$ on eBay right now.
I would check Crucial.com. They are the definitive source for what a machine comes standard with and what it will actually support. Good to know on the eBay special, thanks for sharing with others!
I've noticed that a lot lately, systems with one "non-removable" chip. Makes no sense. This is why I use Crucial's scanner and the manufacturer's specs from the website before buying any RAM
Unfortunately, it's not a gaming machine, so that doesn't surprise me too much. You can try adjusting your game settings, maybe that will help. Probably won't be able to run the highest level of gameplay without a dedicated GPU) graphics card. That's not what it was designed for. Keep me posted
Great question! Yes it can. But like any non-"gaming" machine, you might run into issues with frame rates or ultra-high realism. Just depends on how detailed you want your environment to me. I would probably have no issues with it, but I'm not as picky about the "gaming" settings
Should be able to handle it no problem. If you use the onboard GPU, you might have to lower your frame rate settings to get smoother game play. If you add a dedicated GPU, it should allow you higher frame rate with no issues
I saw this at walmart today and thought gee you could just get a used or refurbished i3 or i5 system for like 150 and it would be about the same performance. also the expansion and build quality would be worlds better since this acer has laptop parts in in.
Good points. I also really don't care for the lack of expandability (one SATA connection, non-standard proprietary power supply, etc. It's a decent machine for most people, but not if you want to expand and grow with it.
If I only had one device to power, a slim PSU with brick is optimal. With additional drives and/or GPU, a traditional power supply would be my preference simply because the slim PSU doesn't have the additional power plugs necessary. All depends on one's needs.
All power bricks held in stationary postition failed with time and all power bricks ive used on the go as intended, developed broken wireing. All replacements have been 2x the OEM power capacities and 0 failures with that method so far.
You can run Fortnite on a potato...the question you have is whether you'll get high refresh rates or lag. I'd rate it a 6/10 there. It's not a gaming machine but it's still pretty strong. So if you just want to play and have a nice experience without a lot of lag, you're probably ok. If you're a super competitive Fortnite player, you might want to find something more of a gaming machine that's designed for high-performance game requirements
Honestly, I am not trying to be a jerk or just be angry about a cheap computer, but this is the worst computer I have ever owned. I purchased it in spring of 2021 for ~450 usd from best buy, I really just wanted it so I could start learning to be a web developer. I had to uninstall windows 10 off of it and switch to linux because every browser I tried was so laggy I could that I could not watch Tutorials on one screen with visual studio code on another. This computer seems to hate dual monitor set ups too for some reason It constantly shuts them off and on randomly which gives me a headache The mouse cursor had noticeable lag with windows 10 I did not want it for games but I wanted to play games from the 2008-2012 time period most are completely unplayable and in the best case scenario run at 14 fps. My favourite game is sky rim 2011 and I did not expect it to run well but I expected it to run at more then .5 frames per second since its a 10 year old game. 2001 halo 1 combat evolved runs under 30 fps. Now since I bought It I actually completed a associate diploma to work as a help desk technician and I am actually going to write my Comptia exam. So I am going to find some sort of micro atx am4 board and hope it fixes in the case without me having to use a hacksaw or something silly because everything I do with this computer seems completely weird. I had 2 different technicians look at it before the program and had my instructor from my associate diploma look at it and it looks fine but the processor is just really bad. But today I actually found your channel because I am wanted to install an m.2 drive in the m.2 slot to see if that helps fix the lag, I am also buying a low profile graphics card to help fix the lag and hopefully fix the constant monitor resseting issue. But I tried 2 different m.2 slots and neither of them are being reconfigured by the bios for some reason. At one point I was given a free dell optiplex computer made by a work experience volunteers at a homeless shelter in 2015 and it worked better in every possible way than this thing did. I am very glad if this computer worked out for you and your subscribers, but this has been the worst experience I have ever had with a computer so I have to advise people to stay away from it. Before anyone ask except for halo1 I ran the games on windows so don't blame linux for this, I think there is just something actually wrong with the motherboard that I did not catch in time to get a return.

@@AskYourComputerGuy its right out of the box
@@AskYourComputerGuy its an old monitor so you suggest another monitor? I think that is the problem, I hooked up both cables for the monitor I unhooked one and it came on! Thank You! If I have anymore problems I will let you know! Thank you again!!!
Re the disc player, love this new computer but it won’t recognize the dvd. I put a disc in and nothing I have tried will make it work.
I am also able to open, insert DVD and close
If drive C is the only letter that is showing up, that indicates that your CD or DVD drive is not being assigned a drive letter. There is only two reasons for that. One is a hardware problem, meaning for some reason the DVD drive is faulty and Windows is not recognizing it. The other possibility is a Windows corruption somehow. The only fix for that would be to do a factory restore, back to factory settings, which I would recommend before proceeding. After a factory restore, if the drive is still not visible, you now have a warranty claim and should proceed that way
Does it work with WiFi
Yes, and wifi is built-in :)
Can you make a video on how to upgrade ram please

hi there does this have sound?
Yes. High Def Audio with 5.1-Channel Surround Sound Support

Just got this in clearance at Walmart for 120. Great little rig.
that’s a great price glad you enjoy the PC!
Are you able to install graphic cards and other components inside?
Looking to upgrade the GPU finding it near impossible as I'm a noob and the power supply is low in these things so iv no idea only one I think I can put in is a 1030
Unfortunately with small form factor PC's, you have to use half-height add on cards, which are harder to find and usually more expensive :(
Is it good for livestreams
Absolutely!!!
Mines very slow i dont understand why its all up to date with windows 11
Have you done anytime to speed it up? Removing startup items, etc?
do you think the Sims 4 would run good on this pc?
I think so, probably. The video quality is stellar. As far as FPS, maybe not so much, but you don't need high FPS for Sims, really. I say yes. You saw how well it ran the flight sim, so I think you'd be just fine!
@@AskYourComputerGuy thank you so much!
My pleasure! Hope it helps :)
FYI the PC is $294 now. Not sure if that was Black Friday or just price drop. Check it out
How long do you think this machine would last?
I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't last as long as any other PC. Quality build, but just like anything else, it's electronic, so best to always add extra warranty regardless:)
The power supply could easily fry out the board. Install a 250 watt gaming supply where the cd rpm sits. You'll easily get over 15 years out of it.
looking into this computer, is it good for things like steam games for example, sims 4, minecraft, things like that? also if i wanted to improve the gaming experience on this laptop what would I have to do / what would I have to upgrade?
It should absolutely be fine for games like Sims or Minecraft, flight sims, etc. I wouldn't recommend trying to play C&C or COD, but for "average" games it would be fine. You can always add extra RAM if needed, and even a dedicated GPU, but it wouldl ikely have to be what's called a "half-height" card (not a full-size "standard" GPU) because of the size of the case. Harder to find, but they exist. Thanks for your questions! :)
Can you make a video about how to get more storage and ram
Do you mean how to upgrade your existing storage and RAM? Just so I understand what you're asking? If so, I'm actually working on that video right now :)
Ye
Good deal. Like I said, I'm working on that video now, taking an older slower laptop and giving it a horsepower boost with more disk space (SSD) and more memory. Thx for your comment, stay tuned for the video to be released soon :)
@@AskYourComputerGuy okay
hey is that NGFF or NVMe?
Pretty sure it's NVMe, but i would double check the specs before purchasing, if that's a deal breaker
got one...nothing but a laptop in a desktop case..not a bad pc for downloading shows movies etc.if we need gaming we use our play stations/etc.only 165.00 for ours
$165 is a heck of a bargain! Good job
Would this pc be good for editing youtube videos
I think I would be pretty happy with it myself for my own editing, so yes. It's a solid, fast desktop PC
Thks for the review. Does the motherboard have a second m2 slot for more storage, or would you have go with sata ssd?
It does not if memory serves correctly. And always go m.2 if you can over standard SATA. It's much faster
can you downgrade to windows 10 home or is it only on windows 11?
You can't downgrade from factory if you buy it with 11. But..when purchasing, you often can choose 10 for the OS, which I recommend. Even with 11, you can still install Windows 10, but you basically have to wipe the PC and install "clean". I made a video on how to do that if you'd like the link
Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/5naOPxd6vsI/видео.html
@@AskYourComputerGuy Thanks I will be checking it out.
👍
I just bought this pc lastnight mainly for work, and some recreational gaming, and I was wondering if I could add higher end graphics card?
You can, but you will be limited to a half-height card because it is a slimline. But they do exist
@@AskYourComputerGuy awesome I was curious if i could or not
Well, you absolutely can, but it's critical you buy a half-height card. A regular sized graphics card will NOT fit the slimline machine. Good luck!
@@huntersmoon9456 you think it can run roblox for my sister?
@@gamalielgarcia3742 probably, I've been running total war empire on it and it runs fine and the graphics look pretty sharp
Would this be good to play games such as fifa or madden?
Probably so. But anything more intensive (Call of Duty type games), no. I think you'd be ok with this one!
@@AskYourComputerGuy Strange has two slots but one can only take one chip. Good thing I got one for my mom.
I've noticed that a lot lately, systems with one "non-removable" chip. Makes no sense. This is why I use Crucial's scanner and the manufacturer's specs from the website before buying any RAM
And by the way...TOS all the way, but Picard over Kirk 😂
@@AskYourComputerGuy Strange New Worlds is great. If you get the time watch it.
do you think think an msi geforce gt1030 graphics card would work in this pc ?????
Only if its a half-height card. A standard sized graphics card will not fit I this small form factor machine
@@AskYourComputerGuy ah okay thank you
No problem!
I can't get gamepass games to run smoothly on this
Unfortunately, it's not a gaming machine, so that doesn't surprise me too much. You can try adjusting your game settings, maybe that will help. Probably won't be able to run the highest level of gameplay without a dedicated GPU) graphics card. That's not what it was designed for. Keep me posted
Is it any good to play Sims 4 on?
I would say so. It's got enough onboard GPU to handle it
Do you know if that SSD slot is NVME? Or only basic M.2? And what is fan size on that? Something like 40-60mm?
I am not certain, pretty sure just m.2. Pretty sure the fan is just 40mm. I would Google the exact specs for that model to be sure
That’s MUCH FASTER then many desktops were just about 5 years ago.
Agreed! Technology improves so fast now, even 1 year makes a huge difference in speed and performance
Can it run microsoft flight simulator
Great question! Yes it can. But like any non-"gaming" machine, you might run into issues with frame rates or ultra-high realism. Just depends on how detailed you want your environment to me. I would probably have no issues with it, but I'm not as picky about the "gaming" settings

I would be willing to say yes. It ran a flight sim no problem, and Minecraft isn't very GPU intensive. My money says "probably yes!" :)
Will it be abel to play ark survival evolved i can get one of these for really cheap and hopeing it can play ark survival evolved
Should be able to handle it no problem. If you use the onboard GPU, you might have to lower your frame rate settings to get smoother game play. If you add a dedicated GPU, it should allow you higher frame rate with no issues
$240 and it’s on it’s way from Amazon
Awesome! Definitely caught a good price break there!
I wanna run GTA 5 and stream might try this out
How about cs go

You can upgrade just about any system with SSD and memory. Not going to be able to upgrade the CPU however

@Coolcatzz2323 👍
@@AskYourComputerGuy would you rather have a slim unusual power supply IN the case? How often had you have a power brick fail, cause i never have...
Good to know!
Paid 299 Brand new
Can it run Fortnite
This computer seems to hate dual monitor set ups too for some reason It constantly shuts them off and on randomly which gives me a headache
The mouse cursor had noticeable lag with windows 10
I did not want it for games but I wanted to play games from the 2008-2012 time period most are completely unplayable and in the best case scenario run at 14 fps.
