I got one for $89 when it was on sale, J4125 + 4GB + 256G SSD. I installed linux, upgraded RAM to 2x4GB, added a 8TB HDD, now it is a relatively powerful home server.
My mom has the Aspire X (XC-830-EB11) so was interested in this video. Hers came with only one drive, though. 1TB SSD. That is the only difference though with hers. My ex is upset that Best Buy sold that to her, saying that she could have gotten a more powerful computer that is small in physical size and more powerful. She does only check email and watch RUclips, though. Also, said CPU is soldered on, and this PC does not support TPM 2.0. All storage is SATA 6 compatible at least. Including the M.2. But it's not Nvme. Only SATA.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at the technical specs for the Pentium Silver J5005 (which is a system-on-a-chip) I see support for only 6 lanes of PCIe 2.0. So there is a question of how many lanes are routed to the M.2 slots and to that PCIe x16 slot. I notice that the SSD you replaced here is M-key + B-key. What does that suggest about the number of PCIe lanes employed by this SSD? The WiFi + Bluetooth m.2 also employs a lane or two. So, I'm thinking the PCIe x16 slot likely has only 1 or 2 PCIe lanes actually routed to it. Given 2 lanes of PCIe 2.0, would a low-profile single-slot graphics card wot consumes under 90 watts (using an upgraded power adapter) be superior to the integrated graphics of the J5005?
It's a dedicated 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 Slot, it doesn't matter the lanes, and you're limited by that alone. So even a low profile nvidia 1650, for example, would be far better than the integrated crappy intel video.
NO, not unless you can find a motherboard that exactly fits that I/O shield of Acer, and even then, as the video explains, you'll be dealing with many other needed hardware upgrades.
I few years ago I was able to purchase (bare) Asrock J4105/25-ITX motherboards for under $100 (CAN). But now, lol, I can't even find any under +$200 today ?! So I just grabbed one of these (new'ish) Acer XC-830 (J4125) Desktops including 8GB DDR4, 256G SSD, pwr. supply adapter, .... new on amazon for $175 (CAN). I can live with the limiting factors of Acer's case, and silly cpu heatsink/fan contraption, but hey, it'll still make a great box for playing with *BSD or Linux distro's. - Thanks for the video breakdown of this. :)
@rickstechrepairs Thank you very much for your explainations. I'd like to turn this thing into a NAS with 2 HDD (I won't use the DVD player). Do you think the only satapower avaible would be enough to feed 2 HDDs of 4TO each (or 2 HDD of 2TO) ? Thank you.
Nope, and even without the DVD player, (which uses nothing), I'd say by adding 2 more HDD's you should look to atleast a 90+ watt 19V comparable laptop brick.
I use an el-cheapo (PCI-Express) Asmedia sata controller card in my J4105-ITX for my (4) x 16TB Seagate EXOS drives and their good enough as an NFS media server, however I'm using a 250-Watt ATX power supply. You would definately have to upgrade your AC-adpater to around 19VDC/7-Amp just for the spin-ups of those HDD's.
What HDD is compatible with it? I’m looking to purchase one for my aspire. I think I need a SATA 3 interface one but not sure if I need a 2.5” or 3.5” one
@@rickstechrepairs thnx bro how about gt 730 no pin is it good? Bcuz the hd6870 need 12pins the gt730 is no need pin but my concern this is good for this xc 830 the gt 730 gpu?
how to open that cpu cooler?

seems like a good low power server!
@@rickstechrepairs yes, it is very power efficient and meets all my needs.

but ya, these SBC's are very limited on PCIE-lanes, hence why it's NOT nvme, it's just m.2 sata.
Is it possible to change the motherboard?
Yes
NO, not unless you can find a motherboard that exactly fits that I/O shield of Acer, and even then, as the video explains, you'll be dealing with many other needed hardware upgrades.
Is it good for a budget gaming pc of I upgrade it a little bit?
I don't think so
lol, it is definitely NOT a gaming pc, no matter what or how you upgrade that.

What kind of ssd you need to upgrade?
Nvme pcie3.0 or 4.0
Ok thanks

go a 2.5" sata SSD
I bought a Kingston 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SUV400S37/480G off Newegg so now I just have to buy the cable and screws
It's a shame that Acer didn't use a fanless CPU-heatsink option like Asrock did. ?

Hello big bro is it good putting a GPU like sapphire amd hd 6870 1gb? Im happy to see this video thanks for answering my answer ❤
its a bit low powered that GPU, but should be ok

That pc is sold for 400E in France.
Help.
?? How ?
idk it's just the market in France, it's being sold at Amazon for 399 lmao
Terrible game...@@rickstechrepairs
Можно ли установить RAM 1x8GB? Или только 2x4GB?
Хороший вопрос. Я сейчас пытаюсь воткнуть 8-гиговую плашку - не распознаёт :(
Damn that's a small fan
Sure is
the cpu is designed for micro/mini boxes and uses less power than a real desktop cpu. The Intel n6000 mobile cpu ( just as powerful) is fanless.
@BartoClubPH - for gaming - none. Note the stock GPU can hardware decode vp9 youtube videos at 4k60 fps smoothly.
@BartoClubPHRX 6700 XT the Best GPU for the money currently
Way better than RTX 4060
Basically
-GPU
-Nvme
-Ram to 32 /64GB sodimm
-For CPU only if you change the Motherboard
correct
Acer should've gone with a fanless CPU heatsink, like Asrock did, AND drop that useless DVD player.
