I-Team: Doraville PD releasing some drivers charged with DUI, while others go to jail

DORAVILLE, Ga. - It’s a lucky break for a drunk driver caught by police: The driver fails every sobriety test, the officer files DUI charges, but instead of heading to jail, the officer lets the driver go.
In the case of DeKalb County Commission candidate and former Doraville councilman Andy Yeoman, the lucky break included a ride home from a Doraville police officer, after Yeoman allegedly crashed into a stopped car below the I-285 overpass on Peachtree Industrial Blvd., injuring a woman.

I believe it. Understaffing creates problems like this. I was a Roswell Police officer and in the “summer of love” 2020 we had tons of officers quitting to the point where Roswell only had 6 officers working on a night shift. In a town of almost 100,000 people, that’s a disaster waiting to happen. Only reason it’s getting attention now is that it happened to an official. When our numbers were low like always, we’d do this all the time.

@@GreygooseRedbull you would be surprised, Sandy Springs just south of us was running 6 a night and they are a way bigger city. Everyone cried DEFUND THE POLICE! So we left, and now yall are pissed when you have to wait an hour for a cop when you get in a fender bender for the report. I say good, give the people what they wanted.

Too many different law enforcement agencies within each county. Waste of tax dollars. Duplication of resources. Inconsistent policies and training. Rogue leadership. Needs to be under the sheriff and held accountable by the people.
