Two years ago, the FOX 5 I-Team shared the heartbreaking story of a man whose home burned to the ground. His contractor was paid to restore it but admitted he didn't. Well, another contractor who was watching FOX 5 couldn't live with that, and now the DeKalb County man is back home again.
The first contractor needs to be sued and
jailed. Thank goodness to for Mr. Collins.
May his company flourish!
Like ASAP. THIS IS theft by deception. The dude was acting as a licensed contractor and didn't even have a license. He also pockets all his money, which is grand larceny.
You have to prove intent to defraud which is an insanely high bar. The Contractor intended to do the job and started in "good faith". The first step to tightening the laws is to set a a timeline of X days, requireing X hours onsite and if the contractor misses that requirement the job becomes legally abandonded and the owner can go after the contractors insurance which should be also be raised to a 1mil bond and attach jail time to contracting without that insurance/bond. That is how you clean up the system.

@@CLO668SO VERY WELL SAID, All the good intent and deeds in this world comes from the moving of God's Holy Spirit in our lives and Mr. Collins is a perfect example. But, Mr. Collins had something within him which allowed the Holy Spirit to use him...compassion.
@@mikehathaway2842If he accepted money for work he did not do then yes he can be sued and he would have to return the money. By accepting the money he accepted the contract. The money is the good faith and accepting it can bind you to your promise. Covid isn’t really an excuse here because the house was empty and the work could’ve been done. The insurance will push it through to their recovery department and set him up on a payment plan. 😞 It was a real blessing that total strangers came to this man’s aid and restored his home. It definitely restored my faith in society, just a little.

The first contractor shouldn't be able to keep those insurance funds for the partially complete, shoddy work he did. I would sue.
I am surprised the insurance company didn't sue the first contractor to get a refund.

The homeowner's insurance needs to go after the first contractor. He was paid their money and absolutely failed the client.
The city should also strongly consider having the contractor's license pulled.

Glad it worked out for him. The house looks beautiful. There are good contractors out there and there are bad contractors out there. Always do your homework.
It is truly a blessing that the second contractor completed this home. I pray that he and his team is blessed in abundance for what they did for this wonderful man and his home. I also hope that he gets justice from the first contractor because it was truly wrong what he did.

People, do not allow any contractor to work on your home without insurance. The insurance company should be responsible for recommending that contractor.

What the hell does the insurance have t o do with the contractor not doing his job? Insurance paid the contractor and He didn't do the job. Insurance did its part.. No case to sue insurance for period!!!

Love this story for him and grateful for the contractor and his family for stepping in. Hopefully the original contractor will get sued for the money he received and have to pay back the funds since he didn’t do the job. He should be ashamed for taking advantage of his client.

That is a miracle! The fact that one person failed this man and another person had enough heart to help save his home is a miracle and it’s God’s reaching and showing him love
Covid is no excuse for not completing that home. Many contractors are dishonest crooks. I have a lot of experience with the bad ones. Finally an honest contractor to the rescue. Thank you for helping him get back into his home. You did it out of kindness and a blessing is coming.
