My memories from childhood have always been a cake baked by my mom streamers and balloons! Def couldn’t afford theme decor and such! Any baker would do exactly what you did. The first “icing” layer is called a crumb coat. Then they usually put it in the fridge and let it harden up and then pipe over the crumb coat. It looked so good! Loved your balloon arch as well. You’re so creative! ❤️🌈☀️
Having 3 kids myself I understand the chaos of trying to get everything done for the parties. I always used helium tanks and bought ribbon and balloons that matched the party's theme. Having a handheld pump might make blowing up regular balloons easier. My children are almost grown now so I've thrown a LOT of parties, some extravagant, some DIY, some destination, some simple. You are so right, no matter what kind of party you throw, your child will be very happy and appreciate it very much.

They have balloon hand pumps, buy those or the automatic pump from amazon. I buy the colors of balloons I want separate to make balloon arches ! Kids love them! Always huge hits! I make my cakes always even got really good and now sell them!
You should give homemade icing a try sometime! It’s honestly so easy and tastes 1000000x better and I am NOT a good baker either! Once you go homemade frosting, you’ll never go back.😝💗

You must pour sugar syrup or sugar water into the plain cake before applying the icing cream to avoid the cake crumbles.... It makes cake more juicy and tender

You did a crumb coat 4 the cake even with smooth frosting you still do that 1st layer so you don't get crumbs in the final layer so you did right
