  • Today I am going to show you the theory in the Advanced Variation of the very solid Caro-Kann Defense!
    Caro-Kann defense starts after the moves 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5!
This move 3.e5 is known as the advanced variation. White is trying to take as much space in the centre of the board as possible, but black will try to attack white's center in the middlegame!
There is a lot of difficult theory to remember in the advanced variation but once you know the most important moves you will love positions you are getting out of the opening phase of a chess game!
There a lot of options in the advanced variation of the Caro-Kann the most popular being the Short variation, named after the English chess grandmaster Nigel Short.
There is also the very aggressive Tal variation, of course named after chess superstar Mikhail Tal.
Make sure to watch the video until the end to learn all the important theory in the very popular advanced variation of the Caro-Kann Defense!
