  • Today I am going to show you the theory in the Panov Attack of the Caro-Kann Defense. This variation can be also named Panov-Botvinnik Attack actually.
Panov attack is one of the most agrresive opening lines against the very solid and respected opening the Caro-Kann defense. Panov attack is reached via move order 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 cxd5 4. c4!
This move 4. c4 is known as the Panov-Botvinnik Attack.
White is simple putting a lot of presure on black's d5 pawn and black need's to do something about it. All the possible positions out of this very agressive variation are really intresting and fuul of potential for strategical masterclass from both of the players!
Make sure to watch the video until the end to see all the possible variation to MASTER the Panov Attack in the Caro-Kann Defense.

Great explanations! Caro-Kann is my goto against 1.e4 , and I am only 850 rated so I learnt a lot!

Nice! Instead of 5...Nc6 a huge/critical variation is also 5...g6 where after 6. Qb3 , Black just gives up the d5 pawn for a long time with 6...Bg7 . I thought this would actually be more main/popular than Nc6. Also in reply to 5...Nc6 I expected 6.Bg5 (to avoid Bg4 entirely) where "awkward" 6...Be6 is not as awkward anymore and even supports Ne4 stuff! Anyway Caro is awesome glhf.

A video covering Panov lines where white plays an early c5 would be great!

Maybe I should include that one as well, but normally c5 is not really good, becouse black quickly play b6 and white is in some trouble.

That was awesome since I also play Panov and Alapin.

Great to hear that from you! I also enjoy playing the Alapin Sicilian and my plan is to film the theory in this variation as well!
