Yes the M8 uses Mistubishi IGBT and the sound is close but less loud than the E231-500 of the Yamanote Line (which went on the Sobu Line ^^) but that of the ex tokyo metro 6000 series is closer. The M7 is Mitsubishi but seems as IGBT siemens with "the wave" at the start.(ICE3 under 25kV) The M9 is Mitsubishi but sounds a lot like the Mitrac bomber
I keep hearing rumors that Long Island railroad is goin to run the last cannonball so are they planning to electrify the tracks all the way to Montauk?
It's sad how the propulsion gets worse and worse sounding with each generation. M7 just cannot be beat with that soothing inverter & hum. M8 and M9 just sounds like nails on a chalkboard with a wannabe M7 hum
they don't sound the same. i would honestly say the m7 and m8 sound more similar to each other than the m9. the m9 has a completely different sound. lol
@@philocohen yes, that's because they're GE. i can assure you that is the track sound. m8's accelerate even faster on sle than in the video and they don't have that sound.

E231-500 sounds creepy imo
I hear the ICE3 one
@@indra144 Hence the nickname from the locals
M8 sounds exactly like the WMATA 7K series and the M9 sounds like the CRH380BL. The M7 sounds more like a mix of R160B and R188
Might be just me as well but I heard some E233 in the M8
0:41 sound almost same to yamanote line even the yamanote line is grinded by speno rail grinder
If you're talking about Japanese trains having any of these, well, I'd kinda hope at least some would, seeing that they're from Mitsubishi...
@@sonicboy678 They do kinda sound the same but NJT Arrow III sounds like tokyo metro 1000 series
@@UrbanlienrR for me NJT Arrow III are very similar with tokyo metro 6000 series with mitsubishi igbt vvvf 3 level
That's JR East E231-500/800
0:41 mamaroneck? MAMARONECK!? I LIVE IN THAT TOWN!!!!!
cool
I grew up in Larchmont then we moved to Rye in 1972. Is Sal's Pizza still on Mamaroneck Avenue? We also went to Mamaroneck Gourmet Pizza
@@SicilianStealth I went to CT via MNR on April Fool's. I passed this station and I believe it's still there.

Even if they do electricity the mauntalk branch they would probably still run the cannonball but with electric trains installed.
Also There are they could still use diesels just DM30ACs on 3rd rail mode.
@Millennial R68 D Train DM30AC's don't even have electric mode. It's the DE30AC that does.
@@TBF_1J you’re wrong, its backwards DM stands for dual mode
@@TBF_1J Thats false info. The DM30ACs have electric mode. The DE30AC only has diesel
Like how you filmed this in Woodside I myself am from Woodside

stfu justin youre a nerd
I wish the silverliner iv cars sounded like m7s. The silverliner v cars, on the other hand, literally sound exactly like m8s, and almost like m9s.
M1/2/3/4/6: You guys have loud propulsion?
Nice catch, although the M8 and the M9 sound the same
If you listen closely, and also watch some of the interior recordings I've made, you'll note that there are subtle differences.
they don't sound the same. i would honestly say the m7 and m8 sound more similar to each other than the m9. the m9 has a completely different sound. lol
Ok thanks
No they are different.
M8 is super quiet.
M9 has R160B Simenes sound
M8 sounds like low pitched R179.
Septa’s Silverliner Vs have it too
He’s just doing MTA railroads only tho
I think the silverliner Vs have the same Toshiba igbt as the wmata 7000s and the Metra highliners, so not a melco.
@@philocohen Silverliner V's are MELCO propulsion. Those use MB-5127-A motors and the MAP-204-A12VD185 propulsion control unit.
Quick question: why were all Metropolitans built without bells?
I think its because they dont need them becuase they arent the large compared to a locomotive that does have a bell like the EMB 125
❤
the grinded track ruins the sound lmao
That's actually the traction motors. The ge silverliner IVs make the same sound when they accelerate quickly.

@@philocohenHe’s right, on the M8 you can hear the grinding rails
