Whats that sound separate from the igbt noise. The sound that starts from a low pitch hum to high pitch scream over time , its like the most basic sound even DC motors seem to make a low -high pitch noise. Im not sure what makes that sound
@mosquitogzz okay ill talk your word for it. How do you know though (I don't mean that in a rude way just curious as to the potential mechanisms) I for one think its the motor poles /windings but I'm not too sure.. because someone said its the gearbox combined with the electromagnetic influence of the motor when it's turned on but who knows
@@bb-3653traction motors is what provides propulsion for the train, and resulting from that is where you get the sound, and its a ac motor which switches current resulting in the motor hum
i'm pretty sure sync starts at 0:54, i think the sound after the first async is just the carrier frequency ramping up to accomodate a higher speed/provide more voltage. it sounds like mitsubishi's 3 level inverter that does the carrier ramp up right before the third voltage level appears
450Hz starting, then a ramp up to 960Hz until around 44-50kmh depending on throttle (more throttle is later), then it switches to 3 pulse briefly before 1 pulse around 58-60 kmh. When braking, the 3 pulse is replaced by a 1050Hz Asynchronous mode, until around 44-50kmh, the cycle is the same back down. When braking heavily, there is occasionally a 230hz tone from I believe the brake resistor grid. Above 58-60kmh, the mode is 1 pulse.
@@TBF_1Jthe difference between the m7a is that the m7a third rails that go under the car, while the reg m7 has over running third rails. but they both have that same hum
@@TBF_1Jyou were talking about how they have very similar but different equipment, and i was pointing out the differences between the third rail. they still sound the same because they use the same motors
The most annoying sound ever, especially if you're trying to relax and sleep. Give me an M-1 or M-3 anyday ! These newer trains are crap, and sound like they're falling apart !
The M7/As were hated on when they were introduced to both railroads around 2002, but they've gotten significantly better. No M1s are in service anymore (all retired and scrapped), and not much M3s are staying around, but you still have plenty of M3As on Metro North.
That sounded beautiful
love this sound so much
The M7 when slow sounds like an elevator bell!
@@Elevatorelectricgate ikr
Very similar sounds to the Class 377/379/387 EMU's in the UK.
Both being Bombardier made EMUs and both being 750V DC means they are very similar just with different shells so that the M7 can meet FRA guidelines
Sounds like an electrostar almost when getting up to speed
I like this better than r160b
I completely agree, the M7’s propulsion comes very close to being as good as the R142A’s propulsion.
I love the r142a traction motor
How many braking patterns does the M7 have I heard traction motors had different braking and accelartion patterns
Not sure
there’s only one acceleration and deceleration pattern.
Really basic if u ask me
Like three asynch patterns then a synch. (Deceleration is reverse)
It's not easy to hear anything after 0:54 in the cycle lol
thats because the cycle gets quiet at that point

thats the traction motors
@@mosquitogzz that's the traction motors yeah ? Not the gearbox as some people say

For the acceleration pattern is the modes async and then synch? I need to know the mode that makes the climbing noise after the first sound

@@cablemanagement1524 that's because it is mitsubishi and i think here is where it switches to synch.

I swear it sounds a bit different from metro north
