      NYC subway stations are smelly and ugly, full with cracked tiles and very often have broken or burnt fluorescent lights. They should've renovated the stations 20 years ago.
      Even my country's metro system have platform screen doors on all stations.
      Also despite their modern appearance, NYC subway trains still looks outdated because of it's exposed stainless steel, they could at least paint their trains. US just like their tasteless trains.

    • @mleonee
      @mleonee 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@automation7295the stainless look is iconic. Painting the trains would ruin it.

      @@mleonee Stainless look might be iconic, but painting the trains wouldn't necessarily ruin it.
      Stainless look makes sense in cities like NYC and Chicago, but would look out of place outdated certain environment. Also NYC used to have red trains, nicknamed Redbirds.
      Modern trains have black on their front-ends

    The subway is magical, it is a world which allows yourself to go back in time to an era mostly forgotten and abandoned. If you close your eyes hard enough, the golden age of 1920's-1950's rapid transit is still alive. This despite it almost 100 years. To think those same screeching sounds were the ones generations of people in the past also heard. Then to think those are the same rail paths the original IRT's and BMT's cars took. Lastly the stations original tiling, support beams, designs, and mosaics on the wall. Generations of people past seen those as well. Every time I get goosebumps. Riding the subway allows me to fulfill an impossible dream, to time travel to the best era in history. Artie Shaw's Begin the Beguine is ALIVE!! LONG LIVE THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE ELEVATEDS, SUBWAYS, AND TROLLEYS.

    I used to live in Chicago when it was a beautiful city. I rode the trains daily....now I'm disabled and alone in a house in North Carolina. Many years have passed and this makes me yearn for being able to run up those stairs again and board the train! The subway was cool in the hot summer but I loved the above ground trains! I was so active and now I haven't been able to leave my home in a year. My consolation is knowing I'll be flying with Jesus someday 😊

I’m usually not a big fan of screechy noises to be honest, and I do hope the R142’s have their ONIX propulsion (and their unnecessarily loud HVAC as well) replaced when they undergo their mid-life overhaul. The R160’s can keep their propulsion tho, both Alstom ONIX and Siemens SITRAC, when the time comes for their mid-life overhaul.

    what you are listening to might very well be iconic, but what one is hearing on the trains now is not the sounds of yesteryear, it is the same problem on the buses, you can't read a paper without hearing announcements every minute on the minute, they don't even say what the train is heading for (like the World Trade Center) - the E & F don't even have the little bell that used to go off - if you haven't been to NY in 10 or 20 years it is not the same as it was. An icon is something (or someone you revere, look up to, simply put it is not the same, it is plain irritating, I think if you could here what it sounds like now you would be unpleasantly surprised, a native New Yorker...who has always loved the trains, just not the announcements lately.
