So weird to find this on RUclips! I have the recording, a Melodya box with the complete ten sonatas on LP - bought in Leningrad 1984 - but I haven't been able to listen to it for a couple of decades since I lack LP player.... For some reason, the 2nd sonata became a favourite, especially the 2nd movement. Beethoven has a way sometimes to write the simplest of music and make it a masterpiece.
Every great musician seems to have one or two historically unique performances, or works. And i think that this is one of david oistraks. No one else on youtubes plays it so much like a clock/ watch/heart as this, in the 1st movement.
Damned with faint praise! It's an EXQUISITE performance. Brilliant, yet refined, restrained, delicate with much power held comfortably in reserve. In short an almost IDEAL performance.

Yeah this is true! What is Melodya record's quality? I saw the whole 10 violin sonata by Philips box set!'
@@peterpiece2102 It's decent for my ears. At least some things they did right!

I still think the most beautiful performance of this sonata is by Arthur Grumiaux and Clara Haskil.
Or, Auguste Dumay and Maria João Pires, 🌬️🎶🎹🎻⚛️
Beethoven dedicou as Sonatas opus 12 a seu professor Antonio Salieri.
