- Small weekend update, not supposed to show up in your timeline - but here we go.
Back in the day, I had much fun reloading Operation Flashpoint over & over again to try to get all the intros on each island. Hopefully it will happen to you too in Task Force Admiral!
These cannot be looped randomly just yet, but we have finished implementing the menu architecture, and along with it the ability to play any MP4 file in the background. We'll try to have a good selection of these to set the mood.
As for the menu itself, we went for a more sober pick for our font finally, compared to our prototypes from last year, if some of you remember. It is all very much work in progress, as always, so menu entries might differ from the final product (and will differ in the case of the debug command, obviously!).
I am sure you'll be happy to customize it the way you like it! Music & sound are played directly from the file, so feel free to put whatever you like in there. Beware these are just small tests, some using very old footage - you know the game has been made cuter since then. If you don't, don't forget to check out the latest CC videos on RUclips :)

Guys, thank you for trying to help kindly, please do read the description though - these video files are to be randomized, and are also crude experiments to test the system. The two in-game ones in particular are using old footage. The post is not about the contents, it's about the tech that allows them to function. No need to tell us which one you'd like better or pick instead of the other, it's just not happening - or more like, it's happening all at once

Historical footage, a rarity today and recognises those that placed themselves before everyone else in the most destructive of conflicts
I really enjoy the historical footage in version 1. I feel like it grounds the player in the "real life" version of what we'll be playing.
I think a mix of both should be great, like those real scenes, and then fading/ttansitioning into the game.
I'd say give players the option between the three on initial startup, and then have that option in the menu if they change their mind
Honestly I'll take one or two. Both gave the right feeling, 3rd kind of feels like it belongs more in a trailer than as menu background

Historical footage is the clear and obvious choice. It really reminds you of reality and that those ships and aircraft were not toys but real advanced weapons of war
Absolutely! I would love that if it makes into the game . Real footage’s of soldiers and their real battle challenges showcased .
To be honnest i prefer the first one with the real footage.
Historical option is fine. But ingame version with sunset is really beautiful!
Moreover, IIRC there is no high quality maritime footage for Japan.
Which is a real shame. I know the winners write the history, but the IJN had their share too and it'd help lend context to the game
There's actually a fair amount of footage depicting early war IJN carrier ops. Mainly from the Indian Ocean Raid and the battles around Guadalcanal (no Midway footage exists for obvious reasons). The footage comes from Japanese newsreels that can be viewed in the NHK archives.

I prefer the historical footage (which is a very fine collection of footage by the way), but an option to switch between the modes would be a good idea I reckon

That would be my call as well. I've studied WW2 Pacific history since grade school, and have never seen that footage before. Very, very cool.👍
Experiment 1 : Gives me the feeling of wow what the generation did Experiment 2 : wow this is the game I'm gonna play this is what I'm going to be immersed in - the calm before the storm. Experiment 3 : Trailer footage for the game - I don't like it.

1 - too aggressive music but perfect backround footage
2 - tv backround material - calm an relaxing music and backround footage - just beautiful

will there be a Campaign? or any Multiplayer option?

i think all 3 should be interchangeable in the options, but the historical footage should be the default.

3rd one (Aircraft combat) has my vote
2nd (Aircraft Patrol) feels too simple
1st one (Historical footage) is over done by a lot of other games.
3rd one reminds me of the historical based cutscenes of Battlestations, but instead of the better detail, you have the detail, right there, in the game.
Plus, it's interesting to stare at. A good main menu portrays the game your playing and gives you a idea of what your getting into.
Edit: Seems that your planning to have all 3. Which in that case, 100%. Go for that.

+1 for historical footage, and another +1 for adding both V.1 and V.3 and allowing the user to switch between the two in the settings menu.
I'd say 1 is best, then 3, then 2 is worst. 2 and 3 are just in-game footage, and you'll be able to see plenty of that once you start playing.
Very excited for this game to come out. Quick question: What font did you settle on? Looks nice.

The one with historical footage have more feeling. The rest is just a regular game main menu.

This might go against the popular opinion but I really do prefer the second screen. It's such a nice and relaxing view combined with a present but subtle soundtrack.
It's also a nice peaceful scenario where you can appreciate the graphic design somewhat freely, in contrast to the war-state missions and that creeping feeling in the back of your mind that you have to always be on guard when playing.

Looking good, it reminds of the main menu theme of Gunship III: US Navy as the "spirit of the USN" plays.
