Fighter combat module testing for Task Force Admiral - The Road to Kickstarter (Nov 24)
WARNING: Experiment/Work in Progress
Ahead of the Kickstarter campaign for the physical box edition you might have heard about in our latest update on Steam (steamcommunity.com/games/1281220/announcements/detail/4470479417177538594), here's the result of a small experiment we made this week as we needed to explore the basics of one of the stretch goals we're planning for, that is controllable fighters in the tradition of Microprose's own 1942: The Pacific Air War hybrid gameplay (and not unlike the thrill that the Battlestations series could, at a more arcady level, provide you with). Take it as a study of feasibility so as to make sure that it has some sort of potential to it.

(WORK IN PROGRESS) The anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea comes & goes, and everybody still suffers as hard it seems💔 In this test Lexington sinks quickly under punitive torpedo and dive bomber damage (her damage model isn't ready just yet so don't worry it should take more time, but at the end of the day, considering what she ate earlier, here her capsizing wasn't even much of an exagg...
TBD oopsies into the drink - Task Force Admiral Dev Testing sneak peeks

(WORK IN PROGRESS) Yorktown is really giving it all for the sake of getting our scenario trials ready for the anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea... 💔 Our poor broken lady has been sunk over and over again by droves of Vals and Kates around the clock. But I have to say, it is all for a good cause, her sacrifice does further our collective agenda. 🫡 Also, look at this feeling of speed, ai...

Small weekend update, not supposed to show up in your timeline - but here we go. Back in the day, I had much fun reloading Operation Flashpoint over & over again to try to get all the intros on each island. Hopefully it will happen to you too in Task Force Admiral! Can we remove all the HUD icons?
Iterally just though. What if there was like a special campain mode, like what uboat did, where you could be a pilot, dive bomber, etc. instead of being the commander. So having possibly two modes, commanding the fleet or being a pilot, that would be actually awesome ngl
I love the water effects!
Makes me think that this could have been done with the IL2 Pacific engine, adapted for a strategic campaign. It is IMO easier to adapt a sim to a strategic game than the other way around, especially flight sims. Compared to the aerial tactics, surface warfare is relatively easy, the strategic layer would arguably be the easiest - ignoring the difficulty of creating an AI capable of deeper strategic decision making. Not meant of criticism, but to date no strategy game with sim elements, especially with air combat, has provided a convincing depiction of tactics and air combat maneuvering. Of course this is a hard nut to crack, so again no criticism, but this brings me back to my first remark, combat flight sims have achieved a higher level of authenticity, so IMO it is better to start from that foundation. Even if it is a simulation, to get it right, you need to get the air combat right first. OTOH, it remains a game that must run on an average potato, so need to stay real 😊
If you can get the views and controls somewhere near the old Il-2 1946 you will be able to print your own money.
Personally, I feel like this is an unnecessary gimmick. Sure, it's nice to have, but the game is Task Force Admiral, not Task Force Pilot, and I don't remember hearing many stories of Fletcher or Halsey jumping in a Wildcat. There are plenty of flight simulators out there, most of which can do the job far better than a game like this will ever manage. I'd like to know what features are being delayed or cancelled so you can implement this. Honestly, I agree with @robbarber7455 below; focus on completing the main game and getting it working and polished, and then add direct control as an option, maybe in a few years, possibly as a DLC. I know you said that "the meat of the main gameplay loop is already here," but that's a heck of a long way from being done.
No worries, to each his own, it's natural :) As for our workflow, it's taken into account. Things don't necessarily happen in a linear way, so impression might be that some stuff is being worked on at the same time, but it's not the case really. Don't worry, it's still a strategy game with a (classic) gimmick, not the other way around.
Didn't you mummy ever tell you to never barrel roll at wave top level ? :D Looks excellent.
Yeah, Pacific Storm like.
Honestly even if it’s gimmick-y this kind of indulgent novelty adds a lot to these kinds of sim strategy games. Even if it doesn’t live up to the level of simulation that’s going on in the main command mode or a dedicated flight sim.
Can’t wait for this game…. Currently getting my ass handed to me by American Harpoon missiles in sea power….. But I can’t wait to get my ass handed to me by Japanese Zero fired torpedos in TFA!
This is more than what i was even hoping for! Awesome we'll be able to control the planes too!
Loving the expiremental test for playable planes
dont think it a good idea let combat pilot do that you better focus on the rts stuff in my opinions
we got ourselves a new war thunder & Il-2 sturmovik competitor?
@@fegeleinantics7898 nah really, in either case realism or gameplay objectives aren't the same. Shouldn't be seen as a dedicated sim, more as a complement to the existing strategy game, the way it works in Call of Arms for instance. Basically, it's the reversed relationship between Pacific Air War's simulation and strategy modules.
I’m going to be honest, I’m a little confused about this potential addition to the game. The game is supposed to be a carrier management game from what I understand, so why the playable aircraft? The way I read it was that it was from the perspective of an admiral managing a task force, not from the perspective of a pilot. Now I get Admirals didn’t have cameras to follow their aircraft, but even with that, you still can’t force an aircraft to do something the same way as you would playing as the pilot.
@@Stooltoad5017 hello Cannot post a link in comments, but I invite you to go over to steam have a look to our latest update. A link is available in the video description. It is to be set as a viable stretch goal for our campaign. As for the legacy proper, it was something done in 1942 The Pacific Air War which is absolutely one of our references. As in the original, it is absolutely meant as a gameplay option, not something that you will have to do in your game if it isn't your style/expectation for experience. Hope it clear things out. Cheers :)
My laptop 💻 can’t handle this
Depending on your laptop, it might still be able to! It's built to run on a potato 🥔
@ it glitched with sea power age of missilesbe for I turned down the graphics And I got it when the schools closed during Covid
"it could be Pacific Air War/Battlestations time again, baby!😎" This is what I've been hoping for all along. 🤞And the BBE is the icing. 👍
I'm 58 now guys. Just saying. Tick tok.
Amazing
Ok this is cool , sing me in , but please add ability to control rear gunner and turret gunners !
This is really exciting! I would love this feature in game!!
need some damage modeling as of wing getting shoot off tail/half fuselage etc.... an be cool if they broke apart hitting the water.... love yous
That’s something they might do, but probably not soon as it’s purely cosmetic
reminds me of battlestation pacific
You guys have clearly made something special. I'm looking forward to purchasing this when it's ready.
o m g take my money now!!!
Nice!!! The idea of a flight sim being baked into a grander strategy games makes me think about Falcon 4 and its dynamic campaign. This has TONS of potential to be a GREAT flight sim, even if a rudimentary one!
Anything that makes you think of Falcon 4.0 is a good thing.
Awesome! Personally I'd like to see War Thunder (realistic mode) style mouse aim.
@@Finarvas Thanks! For the controls though, won't happen unfortunately, as Gaijin has decided to pattern it (and protect it/sell the rights to it from my understanding)
@@DrydockDreamsGames I see, I understand. It's very impressive of you guys adding any direct control system anyhow!
My 2 cents is to finish the core experience first, then add extra stuff. I’ve seen a lot of projects flounder because the devs got too ambitious and never finished the primary loop.
That’s what they are doing, but so many people requested this that I guess showing that it’s possible might get more people to support the game.
^ This!!
@@robbarber7455 don't worry, the meat of the main gameplay loop is here already. See you in January to get a taste ;)
This looks pretty clean.
YOU GOT TO BE JOKING?! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS COOKING. Dude i really fucking hope that you will become millionairs. This Game will come smashing like a asteroid
Hope there's an option to remove the red indicators for maximum realism
You had me at Big Box Edition, the mere mention of 1942 has me as giddy as a kid again. One of my all time favourite games.
It seemed a very good demonstration, showing the potential of the engine you've built.
Looks good. But, imho, 12.7 mm Brownings should sound heavier.
Please guys, do localized pricing for 3rd world countries
Love what I'm seeing
The release of SP has made me all the more excited for TFA. It really feels like now is the best time to be a naval PC game fan since the 90s. Can't wait to see how the game turns out!
I hope they release a fully fledged experience that is content rich and worth the asking price. I bought SP and refunded. I am prepared to wait for the full game
Really looking forward for this feature!
Yes! Looks brilliant, awesome job :D
AMAZING!! Didn't think I could get more hyped but this looks incredible!
Beautiful
Oh, I am so excited.
