Just a small video of on-going feature integration made over the last week in Task Force Admiral - in this case voice messages and the corresponding entries in the game logs. Hope we're getting the mood right, at least somewhat!
Still much work to do, and it ain't no Greyhound sequence just yet, but I hope some of you will find the effort commendable. Most of the audio stuff is here more for a matter of flavor than actual info, as important events will still be properly logged in the relevant journal (the upper right corner main comms window currently playing that role for all PoVs). Eventually you will be able to filter what you want to read, and what you want to hear.
"Public announcement" message types are PoV-based (as you can see at the beginning) while your usual MC comms can be made available in flagplot & external view both. Music & SFX are all in-game, what you see is currently what you get. Voices, messages, callsigns etc... are obviously not final. it's still a bit buggy but we're getting close to what we're aiming for. It can only get better from there!
Thanks in advance for your understanding - and for sharing to those who you think will enjoy! Cheers :)

Yeah, WotS *could* have been fantastic, but the lack of AI was a killer. Great game, I've sunk way more hours into it than I probably should have lol And it has its fun moments, the game really shines in surface engagements. But WotS desperately needs functional AI to help manage battles, and it just doesn't have it. TF:A looks much smarter and fluid in terms of AI and gameplay, so if the game delivers, it will easily become the new industry standard.

Bad /lack of AI, clunky UI, game only bringing a couple of units into a battle when it should include many multitudes more, having to micro manage every rudder turn.@@peterhowe547

    This looks amazing.
I think the distinguishing feature between TF:A and every other naval warfare sim to date is the apparent ability of friendly AI to take care of themselves to some degree. Moving to AA action stations, holding formation until practicable, and then breaking formation to evade, all on its own cognizance, is a quantum leap in AI compared to other naval warfare titles.
In War on the Sea, you feel like God trying to herd lobotomized cats. The AI can't do anything to save their lives, and you end up becoming one man trying to play 10 different ships at once. And lets not get started on aircraft and their accompanying task load.
In TF:A, the player vibe appears to be much more in the vein of "Admiral overseeing a fleet of competent, organic, functioning subordinates", where the AI actually takes reasonable steps to preserve itself, and provide a measure of resistance to the enemy.
Considering that what has killed previous naval warfare titles is task-saturation due to incompetent AI needing constant babysitting, TF:A looks set to become the new, definitive high water mark for the genre.
    My body is ready.

First make the game simple to control... to much confusing will lose alot of potential buyers/players... and 2 the damage animation or models... when the ships are hit with a thorpedo or bomb if youy can add some animation or model change to the ships when they are damaged that can be a massive game changer! Keap up the good work.

Sounds were cool. View from the deck was great and seeing the planes and smoke puffs at range were quite realistic. However, I saw no ship make any evasive maneuvers which would be standard to avoid the attack runs by planes, bombers and torpedoes. Typically they will turn in circles or long zig zags, depending on their formation. It didn't even look like they sped up.
Hopefully, those aspects are in the works. Keep it real!
    Don't sink the ship!

    • @DrydockDreamsGames
      @DrydockDreamsGames  4 месяца назад +4

The video is literally about an evasive maneuver 😅
USN ships don't go in circles for these. This is as you say a matter of a series of turns - which is done first after the relevant announcement (which you can see in the radio log too) once the attack axis have been identified.
Without proper air cover these Kates were able to do a pincer, so evading them before they drop is meaningless considering that showing the stern to one group automatically means showing the side to the other.
For more elaborate evasive maneuvers, the video from August or those made by contents creators about the same scenario should put your worries to rest :)
      Cheers
