Decon really does offer the value and versatility, like you touched on it makes a great snowfoam, shampoo, clay lube, tyre cleaner and all sorts. Meguiars may strip Protection quickly but it’s a bit of a one trick pony.
I hadn't thought of the claylube use, that sounds pretty smart when you think about it doesn't it, a nice surfactants ladened shampoo and the clay bar working together, that's got to be effective! I also have had a chance to foam it yet either, mainly because I've been doing a lot of washing in direct sunlight the last couple of weeks and I don't want that to be the yardstick I measure it by.
I love meguiar's wash plus + to start paint decontamination. One of the rare shampoos to break wax, Sealant!. and even if you insist, reduce a ceramic.
I've since tried Kamikaze No5 (which I've got a video on), which is far better at removing waxes and sealants. Pricey though, and I do still enjoy Wash+ for giving something a really good deep clean.
Interesting. I have both products and have fairly much found the same. If I do a full decon followed up by a correction/polish I use Meg wash plus, if I am just doing a deep clean wash I go for GT as there is no chance of marring and wanting to just add a new LSP.
I think this is probably the most logical way to use the two products. I wonder if it's fair to compare GT Decon to CarPro Reload or Gyeon Restart?! Or is it really a standalone product? Tricky to suss out, it's mildly caustic I believe, so it's almost like Autosmart G101, but it's much higher quality with significantly more surfactants (or so I'm told).
Jury is still out for me. on LSP. Tried the same two products in similar way you did and was not overly impressed with either as far as stripping LSP was concerned. Maybe my expectations were too high. Agree with the amount of product you use for each and the implied better value from GT as well as it's versatility. I did use a chenille noodle pad and had no lubricity issues, in fact, I really liked the feel of Megs+. I've still to try GT on a full range of uses (wheels, tyres, pre-wash, arches etc) but I've pretty much relegated the Megs+ as it does not seem to add anything I cannot get from my BH mainstays.
I think you may well be right there, especially given your additional points about using Decon Wash for so many other purposes - it has a lot of uses doesn't it? I'm going to have to use it as a foaming prewash too, as well as wheel cleaner etc etc. GT replied to my Instagram post promoting the video with the dilution ratios for various uses too. I really need to explore whether it's residue thats making the LSP here or if it actually removed it, ya know?
Great video, I use both and they still have a place in my arsenal. I find removing old LSPs which are not on there last legs I need Megs. If they are failing zero is more than enough But then I’m loving ADBL Tangy at the minute it’s a must try honestly
I think you've hit the nail on the head there with the use cases for which both products are advantageous. I have to say that I was just pleasantly surprised that the Decon Wash left such a nice finish and was so easy to use in direct sun. You have to fight WashPlus in that situation.
I cannot see how that's not risking the clear. Every time clay is introduced in any way (bar, cloth, mitt) it will always marr. Absolutely fine if you're going to polish of course, absolutely not if you aren't.
Interesting one this, I mean the test clearly shows the Megs+ is far more effective at stripping LSP from the panel & that is far better if you just want a clean base for a fresh layer of LSP. However if you do intend to chemically decon, clay & polish the paintwork afterwards then it's totally irrelevant for me what product you use. I know people suggest LSPs can clog the pads when polishing but I think the fallout / tar remover & then claying would strip any remaining LSP the shampoo didn't anyway. In specific scenario's the megs + is clearly better as you have shown but it's a very niche scenario. It is still one that does occur so the outcome for me here is the megs+ is the better strip wash even though I very rarely use it in the situation I described.
I think that's the same for me too. I still have this lingering thought that the Wash+ must be leaving done sort of residue behind that's masking the LSP, because I'm surprised it's as effective as it is, does that make sense? A further video is required me thinks.
@@SuperchargedLlama I've checked it for residue in the past as I found it hard to believe myself. Went over the car with a pure shampoo, it made no difference to water behavior. From what I can see it really does strip LSPs rather well but it does require a thorough 'scrub' on the panel to do so (clean panel preferably).
I'd appreciate your advice here on a 3yr old well maintained car. I've just bought Megs+ and intend to use it to remove TW ceramic spray which is 3ish months old (and just sprayed on top of dying BH DSW). Tbh i don't know if the water behaviour is the Touch-on or the TW, but I'm a firm believer in sacrificial layers. So, assuming Megs+ strips the LSP(s), I'm then going over with Korrosol and no clay. Would you use panel prep before an LSP or do you think this would remove some of the 'filling properties' I've read the Megs (apparently, but who knows) has? Sorry, that was longer than expected. Cheers in advance
No problem there dude, good questions! I'd say it's always best to do a panel wipe to get the best bond for your LSP of choice. You'll want to get rid of any residue from the wash+ and Korrosol anyway, just in case. I have never noticed the wash+ to have any filling abilities, but it does leave detergent residue behind for sure.
@@SuperchargedLlama thanks for the advice. Followed your method and it all worked out nicely, I think. The Megs+ really is a pleasure to use and wicked effective. Cheers again!
Yeah it's pretty good. Halo is, like Gyeon CanCoat, more of a hydrophobic topper than a hard coating, but even so, it shows you how good a job it does!
Let me know how you get on. I feel like the Megs might have it for removal of previous LSPs (as you could see in the video, that side of the bonnet wasn't beading or sheeting at all, but I couldn't tell if it was residue from the product doing that or not, even after wiping it off again with a dry MF)
@@SuperchargedLlama Will be looking at trying it over the weekend. I was concerned ref marring of the paint which put me off. But reading about it seems fine to use. 🙏
@@imprezaworks if you've got really soft paint I think it can mar a bit, I tend to just use it before polishing so it hasn't bothered me, but that's my specific use case and context.
That's interesting, I thought the carbon collective block was supposed to replace the clay stage, have I misunderstood that? If that's the case, does the block mar much?
@@SuperchargedLlama lol, I was hoping you might consider testing this out for 1) the convenience 2) the effectiveness of the block vs traditional clay bar. I have used this combo for a quick pre cleanse on a scrapper prior to polishing, not paying too much attention to the performance. The CC block is handy in respect of size, shape ready to use, can be washed if dropped. It is certainly quicker getting around a vehicle with it. I suspect it will not pull out the same quantity of contamination as a clay bar however but this would need to be examined under a proper test. 👍🏻
If you buy it, I'll test it ;-) I've got so many other things I need to get through at the moment that I won't be buying too much else yet (it's so easy just to go and buy more and more things too, I'm guilty of that, but the van is overflowing!) - Farecla have just sent me 6 different things to check out (one of which is the clay mitt, but I've used that before and it mar's like you wouldn't believe - logically you'd say it's a fair replacement for the CC block here, but it just isn't the same quality).
