Trying to Deep Clean Your ResMed Water Reservoir? Take It Apart First!

- Since ditching my Philips #FoamGate CPAP about six weeks ago and switching to an AirSense 10, I've come to appreciate what a superior machine the ResMed is in practically every meaningful way. But soaking the humidifier reservoir has been a struggle! Or, at least it was until I discovered this stupidly simple trick.
Now, I can not only soak my reservoir using half the water; I can also do a much better job of cleaning it. And it only takes about half the time to dry.
How did I miss this?! Especially given that it's right there on Page 14 of the user manual?!

You got to be kidding me?? 😂😂 I didn’t know you can take it apart like this. This is a fantastic discovery! Thanks for sharing this! 👍🏼👍🏼
OMG 😳 they never showed me how to complety clean the water reservoir, thank you so much for this video 🙏.
I put my dish soap into the unit and fill half way with water and then shake vigorously. Uses even less water and I open it up, pour the soapy water out, rinse lightly and its done for my daily cleaning. I find that disconnecting the unit as you show how is great for that weekly cleaning and deep soak.
Oh Dennis…don’t hate me friend I’ve been doing this for several months after examining it like you and realizing “oh, this dang thing pops apart”. Definitely makes the cleaning process go faster and uses less water.
You’re on restriction!
My dad told me the same. I was like, “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?!”
He said, “I figured if I knew, you knew!” 🤣
@@AdventureswithCPAP My excuse: I didn’t tell you because your hands are about as big as bear paws. Yeah…that is my excuse and I’m sticking to it. LOL
That’s…
That’s valid.
Thanks, I didn’t know that. This will make cleaning the reservoir way easier 👍
"Big wookie paws"! AWESOME LINE
Cringe line
Thank you for this. Very helpful. I've got it pulled apart and soaking now.
I’m binge watching all your vids man.. very informative stuff. I was thinking I’m gonna break this top off because I’m trying to get nook and cranny. Brilliant Dennis!!
Thanks so much!
Now, go pay it forward. I started this channel because I quickly figured out that most people put on CPAP are given no support and no education. So it’s up to us to help one another! ❤️
Thanks for the video. I've been doing this since getting my device a few years ago. The retail store was helpful and gave me a very thorough rundown of the device. Where I live, we have excellent quality city water. I use the tap water for the chamber. The only nightly routine I do is to leave the lid up after filling and this lets any chlorine or other smells disappear before I sleep. Ten minutes is ample, though if I forget to do this, then tooth brushing time will suffice, I find.
Thank you my friend, other videos show this but you mentioned it specifically in the title making it easier to find. I wanted to make extra sure I did it the right way and not have an oops moment.
simply detach the top lid from the bottom part of the reservoir and you've just made the whole footprint half the size, so you'll need half the water in there!! I've been doing that for 4-5 years now with my Airsense 10 and it does the job every time! I also soak the tubes, mask and reservoir in a mix of water and vinegar (about a cup of white cleaning strength vinegar in a gallon of water) for about 5 minutes before giving it a good wash with mild dishwashing soap (Dawn, unscented.). The whole kit last for a good 3-5 months, no problem.
Question for you sir. I just started using CPap. I currently use Resmed N30i nasal I saw your other video on the Philips nasal pillows. Are the tubes that fit the mask interchangeable?
hey man how you been doing? i haven't seen any new videos about you. i hope youre doing well. take care and thanks for all the help you have provided with cpap and all else.
Hey, buddy! I'm actually starting to make some serious improvements! I REALLY hope to get back to making videos soon. The only reason I haven't is because my newish podcast is kinda taking off and eating up a lot of time. But I have two videos I REALLY want to make soon.
Got diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease in September. I've lost 70 pound since -- nearly 75! So I want to do a video about weight-loss and CPAP, and I still need to get around to documenting my breathing technique I developed to overcome my CPAP anxiety. It worked for my wife, so I'm hoping it'll work for other people, too! Just need to find the time, fam!
@DennisBurger awesome! I hope it all works out in accordance with your plans. You lost !75 lbs? 🥳 this is good so that means better sleep and hopefully lower cpap pressure. Well, is good to know you doing well and doing Podcasts. Looking forward for those 2 videos. Take care.
@@dewitubeX1 that was the hope, but my pressure requirements haven’t changed an ounce! Turns out, what my doc hypothesized was correct: my obstructive apnea seems to be anatomy related, not weight related.
So I want to discuss that and talk about how I don’t have any regrets either way.
@@AdventureswithCPAP you shouldn't have any regrets my friend, the good thing is that your videos shows that you have achieved what others have given up to do and on top of that you share it with us. thank you again. I really looking forward that discussion video.
I haven’t cleaned mine in 2yrs…. It’s rusty :(
I’m going to try this today. Thanks!
Watch out for mold growth between the metal of the tub and the plastic bottom if you're soaking it.
One problem I have had with this water reservoir is that it has a small opening on the bottom in a corner. If water gets in there it just ruins the tank. Every time I use it after it gets any water in the bottom a sickly sweet smell comes through if I try and use it.
And how do you dry it?
Thank you for your videos, I like them a lot. One question, do I have to throw out the distilled water from the water chamber, clean it and fill up the chamber with new fresh distilled water every single day?
Thanks i didn't know the water opens into pieces.
You can remove the top half. It makes cleaning the base much easier..
i just cleaned the parts of my machine for the first time about 20 minutes ago. does the water that gets inside the bottom of the reservoir from rinsing the drain port air dry? i imagine the rest of the parts would air dry easily because they're exposed to the air, but the bottom only has that tiny hole so the water just seems to sit in there
One thing I do before popping my reservoir in my Hurricane Dryer is shake the bottom well to expel water through both that hole and the lip on the opposite side.
You are correct, though: it's tough. I'll sometimes run an hour drying cycle and still find water in the bottom. :/
Is it ok for wtr to get into the small open space on the bottom of the water reservoir? What is the final
measurements of liquid to put into the water. Meaning
one part ?? to 3 part ??
Totally fine, that little hole is for draining that water
You can pop the top and bottom of the reservoir apart.
Good to know.
Do you think scrubbing is unnecessary? I have a water softener. Do you think it's bad to use softened water?
I definitely scrub very gently during my weekly cleaning, but not my daily soak. Like I've said, the daily soak is 99% for my mask interface. I just throw my reservoir in the bin because why not?
Honestly not sure about using softened water for cleaning. I definitely wouldn't fill my reservoir with it for nightly use, but whether or not it's effective for washing your gear is above my pay grade. :/
@@AdventureswithCPAP yeah, I definitely don't use softened water when I'm using it. I meant for cleaning.
Why have they designed out all of the good features of the previous C Pap machine. Particularly creating such a noisy air leaking improved model. Was some group of people incharge of unemprovements?
The only real improvement is making it possible for your Dr. to remotely read the machines.
LMAO this will be so much easier! It takes FOREVER to fill a sink up when the faucet uses 0.7gpm... this will make it so much easier to get ~10 minute contact time with tergazyme
Can I use dish liquid soap that kills 99% bacteria to clean all my equipment? tubbing, mask and other parts?
As long as it's not too harsh a detergent, sure! I used to use Dawn, but switched to Seventh Generation at the recommendation of a viewer, and I really like it.
Also suggested to me by a professional with one of the cpap companies (in addition to Seventh Generation) is Dawn Clear which I had never noticed. It is right there beside the rest of the Dawn and has no dyes or scents in it.
How often do you soak in the water?
I throw my reservoir into the basin with my nasal interface every day, then dry them both in my Hurricane Dryer afterward. amzn.to/3wWETEI
Probably don't need to soak the reservoir daily, but if I'm gonna do my mask anyway, I might as well. And soaking my nasal interface daily means I typically get six to nine months out of one instead of the month that my dad's last.
Thank u
I have the same one
Wookie Paws 😂
I clean mine every few months even if it still looks clean
How long do you soak for?
Daily? Really, just however long it takes me to drink my first cup of coffee. I’ve found that’s sufficient to completely remove the oil from my face out of my mask.
Weekly? Half an hour of soaking for everything: mask, reservoir, hose, mask frame, headgear…
@@AdventureswithCPAP Thank you!
I thought your not supposed to use sink water or clean?
Sink water is fine for cleaning, assuming your city water is pretty clean. Thankfully, ours is!
I dropped mine on a tile floor, came right apart. LOL
That’s one way to do it! Probably not the recommended way, but whatever works. 🤣
no matter how you washing its getting those like stone or salt points that cant be removed even do i removing door from the base nothing help..not really grate product this chamber
Hate the tank
how did you open it in cant open mine.
Chapter four! I show you right where to place your thumb and gently press outwards.

I’ve got my ResMed since 3 weeks and already knew that the reservoir can be separate. So, not a discovery, for me. Thanks
