    my name is ema Iam 16 and Iam hard of hearing. Iam about to
    Get hearing aides in couple weeks but I wanted to ask u some questions.
    What's the most uncomfortable thing about having hearing aids?
    What's it like wearing hearing aids on for the first time?
    What's the pros and cons to wearing hearing aid?
    When something is to loud and Iam wearing hearing aids does it make a screeching feedback that would hurt your ears?? I heard that this happens. IDK.
    What should I look for when Iam choosing my hearing aids?
    How long does it take to adjust to my hearing aids? How long do hearing aids last?
    I have profound hearing Loss in my left ear and my right ear is moderate to severe loss and my doctor is saying that my right ear might get even worse but I was wondering would I need to get two hearing aids for both of my ears or do u think I will need one hearing aid? In your own opinion what do u think personally will I probably get??
    This my fist time getting hearing aids and I was wondering if there's anything important that I should know before I get them?
    Because of my hearing loss do u think I should learn sighn language?? I know a few signs but not a lot I would like to learn more but I don't know anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing Iam pretty much alone in this. lol it's really hard to communicate to my family or anyone else, I mean I can lip read pretty well and I can understand a full conversation because of lip reading but it sometimes get frustrating when I don't get a sentence right or a word wrong and lip reading all day gets my brain tiresome and exhausting. So I tried at some point for my two siblings and my parents to learn sighn language so that communication could be more easier and relaxing for me so That it communicating isn't to me so tiresome and exhausting but they all gave up after 2 weeks and they told me it's because I know how to lip read so well that they don't need to learn to sighn. But they don't understand how hard it is to lip read everyday. Anyway so sorry to get out of topic I just need to get that out of my system lol anyway I love your videos so much they really help me because they make me feel like Iam not alone😀 so thank u! And it would be so awesome that if u in your next video if u could answer my questions that I have for you! That would be amazing!

      Hey Ema!!!
      All these questions are amazing! I am going to use a few in my next video for sure, but since you are getting hearing aids soon I am going to answer your questions now :)
      ----------What's the most uncomfortable thing about having hearing aids?
      Probably the ear molds, but you get used to them over time. If anything feels weird or if your ear molds give you any irritation go to the audiologist so they can fix it for you! That was something I didn’t know for a long time. Like they can fix the tubes, shape the ear molds better, just tell them what is bothering you.
      ----------What's it like wearing hearing aids on for the first time?
      Oh man, it is different. I have a video about that for you to check out. The sound is a whole new sound. Your voice will sound different and it might be a little bit overwhelming at first but just take it one day at a time. :)
      ----------What's the pros and cons to wearing hearing aid?
      Pros:
      -You can hear things that you normally can’t hear
      -For safety you might be able to hear more cars coming, people walking behind you, so on.
      -You can decorate them to look cool and hearing people will be jealous they can’t have hearing aids
      -you can take them out when people annoy you :)
      Cons:
      -Like I mentioned, people think you can hear like they can when you wear them
      -the batteries are a bit pricey so stock up if you see them on sale!
      -Your ear molds might bother you but make sure to tell the audiologist if it does!
      - supposedly you should get new ones every 4-5 years
      ----------When something is too loud and I am wearing hearing aids does it make a screeching feedback that would hurt your ears?? I heard that this happens. IDK.
      Depends on what kinds you get, if you get crappy hearing aids at walgreens, the ones for 30 bucks, then that might happen. But if you are going to see a audiologist that shouldn’t happen.
      When something is too loud I’ve never had any feedback. I only have feedback when something is too close to my hearing aids like a pillow or me hugging someone. When I hug someone and get feedback I call it the Feedback of Love, because if I hug you well and the other person hears feedback, that means I really care about you lol!
      ----------What should I look for when I am choosing my hearing aids?
      Quality! There is a tattoo saying, ”Good tattoos ain’t cheap and cheap tattoos ain’t good.”
      Now I know you’re not getting tattoos, but same saying goes for hearing aids. If you can afford it, try to get the best. If not try to get the one that won’t hurt your pockets but still will give you a decent sound.
      Also! Make sure to try them out. Just because you picked out one brand doesn’t mean you have to stick with that brand. There is a 30 or 60 day trial for hearing aids before they are officially yours and you can’t return them. So if you don’t like them, get your money back, or try another kind.
      ----------How long does it take to adjust to my hearing aids?
      This is different for everyone. For me, I have a crap load of patience, took me a long time to learn how to have this much patience, but it takes me around a month or two to get used to how everything sounds. But to be 100% comfortable and not even notice that they are there, probably 6 months or so.

      ----------How long do hearing aids last?
      4-5 years...Just enough time to save up for the next pair lol!
      ----------I have profound hearing Loss in my left ear and my right ear is moderate to severe loss and my doctor is saying that my right ear might get even worse but I was wondering would I need to get two hearing aids for both of my ears or do u think I will need one hearing aid? In your own opinion what do u think personally will I probably get??
      Talk with the audiologist. I have seen a lot of people who just use one, it’s no biggie. But if it was me and the audiologist said I could use two I would get two, try them out for that trial period then if i’d prefer just one then i’ll return it.
      This my first time getting hearing aids and I was wondering if there's anything important that I should know before I get them?
      If they have colors for your earmolds, hearing aids, sometimes they don’t, but if they do, pick whatever colors you want!
      A lot of audiologist/parents recommend you to pick neutral skin tone clear ear molds so you can hide them. This is really up to you. I just want you to know that you shouldn’t be worried about hiding it. You should pick out the colors that you want to wear everyday. If the colors are clear and skintone colors, go for it. If the colors are red and purple, go for it! It’s your choice, you wear them.
      ----------Because of my hearing loss do u think I should learn sign language??
      YES, YES and YES! I actually will be doing a video about this why it is important.
      So I am not as fluent in ASL as I want to be because I grew up going to a mainstream school, I never knew anyone who was Deaf/HoH other than me. So I always used lipreading as a way to communicate. Over the years I realized that I have been spending so much time lipreading, to benefit hearing people.
      Hearing people don’t understand how much effort and work we put in so they can communicate with us. That’s something that I am trying to change.
      Everyday tons of mainstream Deaf/HoH people struggle to communicate with others. We lipread, some of us speak, but when it comes to understanding a conversation 100%, without needing someone to repeat themselves, that is rare. At least to me that is rare, I never get that.
      Recently I was in the hospital and I requested an interpreter and I got one. It was the first time I had one in the hospital with me and it blew my mind. For the first time I had a conversation that I could understand someone 100%. I almost cried, no joke.
      I felt both happy and sad after that. Happy because I could finally understand what was going on, what was being discussed. I didn’t have to try to keep up. But I also felt extremely sad and upset because right then, I became aware of how much accessibility I missed out on.
      If I had the opportunity to learn sign when I was younger, I would be able to make phone calls, talk with other signers, request interpreters. I would be able to understand 100%.
      Sign language takes time, it won’t happen overnight unfortunately. But it is worth it. It will be hard at first getting everyone on board. They will feel awkward and get lazy about it, but push through it!
      But the biggest thing you can do for yourself is try talking and throwing in signs you know and do it everyday. Start to watch videos that are only in sign language and just practice, practice, practice! And search for events and meet-ups with other Deaf/HoH people or maybe just people who want to practice. Just whatever you do, don’t give up, because in the end it’s going to be worth it.
      I hope you enjoy picking out your hearing aids. Keep me updated on the progress with your hearing aids or your signing, I’ll be around :)
      Jess

    thank god for ASL! I've had APD for all my life & sign has made communicating & understand conversing so much better! Not as many misunderstandings & embarrassing slips. Growing up I always feel worried I'll say or do the wrong thing because I misinterpret everything. With sign it rarely happens & i'm thankful for getting introduced to sign---wish i had it younger when growing up. Just glad I have it now in my life :)

      When a person FIRST gets their hearing aids, it's recommended to wear them for a few hours the first day. Then add an hour each day, so you get used to them.

    Hi Jessica it's EMA and Thank you Jessica so so much for getting back to me!! You don't know how much it means!! I really appreciate the time you took to answer my questions and thank you for your honesty!! U know not many people would've taken the time to write back to me, so thank u again! And I will keep u updated on my hearing aids and I will practice more on my sign language and hopefully I will get better with time. And I will definitely get hearing aids that have color!😄 I don't want to be embarrassed about having hearing aids, that I would want to hide them. I want people to see my hearing aids because I think they are amazing and hearing aids will make me different but I LOVE DIFFERENT!! lol plus I think they look even cooler! especially now that I have seen your video about decorating hearing aids:) I am definitely going to be decorating my hearing aids when I get them in couple weeks.😊 lmao anyway thanks again for getting back to me.

    I use to do that when I was a kid and get into trouble and the teachers would yell at me, I would reach behind and off my earring aids went. After awhile they caught on. Those were also the days when lip reading was better.

      Most of the time those with a negative perspectives on hearing loss make us feel bad about wearing them, when they aren't even the ones wearing them! Never feel bad about wearing them, only feel how ever you want to feel at the moment.

    Whoa, you remembered people with APD exist! You're like my favorite person now!
    Though it's worth adding for anyone reading the comments that APD technically isn't a hearing loss, it's a processing disorder in the brain where auditory information doesn't always get processed the way it should. For me it means that I have a really hard time picking up what people say from background noise, I often misunderstand what people say, and sometimes it's like my brain just decides it's done with processing language and everyone starts sounding like the adults in Charlie Brown. Oh, and a weird effect of it was that it took me until I was in my late teens to really develop a taste for music, because it often just sounded like unpleasant noise to me since my brain wasn't processing it quite right.
    There's not really much that can be done about it aside from basic accommodations, hearing aids don't typically help and most people don't really take it seriously at all(especially since one day you can be totally fine, and another you might be struggling to understand anything being said). Once you pass a hearing screener, people kind of just dismiss it as a problem. It's a weird in-between spot, where you might technically be hearing but also kind of aren't.

    Thank you for this. Ive always wondered about hearing aids and how they help deaf/hoh! I was fascinated after watching Switched at Birth. ASL is something I've always wanted to learn but hear its harder for wrists at 32.

      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад

      My mom is 50 and she is taking it up now. So is my grandpa, they haven't had any troubles yet. When it comes to signing I think its hard on the wrist if you sign super fast. If you sign at a slower pace you should be good. I'll look more in to it. Hope you do end up learning it! :)

      I find it really difficult to understand the teacher in class, especially with all the noise in the classroom. What can I do to concentrate better? Do I have to change my hearing aids? I miss important stuff all the time and it bothers me a real lot!

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад

      Actually I am making a video about why it is important to learn sign language as Deaf/HoH kids/teens/adults. I feel like I missed out a lot during school because I never really understood what the teachers where saying. I picked up as much of it as I could, barely passing classes, but I always struggled in school until I got to college and took online courses (no talking teachers required). I feel like a part of that has to do with me not learning sign language and me not having access to Deaf schooling. This is just something to think about. If you scroll my comments here there is one girl, under Edita Mustafic, I responded to about why sign language is important to learn if you want to check it out. But there is a thing called the FM system not sure if you use it already in school, but I used it all through school. It basically lets you just hear the teacher speaking. Your school should always be able to provide you with one if you need it. So that might work when it comes to noisy situations. :)

    • @aditipathengay3409
      @aditipathengay3409 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I'll try to get those ASAP. I live in a country where most people associate HoH with old people(People think I am totally deaf) and no one knows what a hearing aid is. So there is no way my school will have an FM system. But thank you for telling me they exist. I'll tell my parents about it tomorrow

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад +1

      HAHA! I get that too! So many people think hearing aids are only an old people thing. As for the FM system hopefully you can get one to try out. Not sure what brand hearing aids you have but there are some brands that have special things that are kid of like the FM system like the Rodger pen from Phonak:
      www.phonak.com/us/en/hearing-aids/accessories/roger-pen.html
      If you ask an audiologist I'm sure they can help you find something! Keep me updated on your progress!

    I'm 25 and about to get my first pair of HAs. I'm really a little nervous since I've never had them and I'm worried they'll hurt (I have small ears, so even iPhone earbuds don't work for me) or that I'll get them and they don't work. My hearingloss isn't that bad, it's between 45s in the low tones and 30~35 in the higher tones (with 6 & 8k being 20) so it's just mild.

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  6 лет назад

      HI! You'll be fine because they customize the ear molds to fit your ears since everybody's ears are different. They also have different types of materials so if the ear molds give you any problems make sure to go to your audiologist and tell them about it. Because after all that is what they are there for, to make adjustments and make sure your hearing aids work for you. Feel free to keep me updated on your progress with them!

    An ASL related question- while I love watching the mixture of signs you make, I find myself wondering, it looked like you were drawing a question mark in the air. I've been wondering about a gesture/sign that could replace the eyebrows because my test if I could see my eyebrows moving under my sun mask proved to me that I can't. So yeah, no facial markers for me when signing outside.

    • @shamansslave
      @shamansslave 7 лет назад +1

      And also, I loved the bit of explanation you gave on the 4 types of hearing loss. It was so good to be reminded of the types of hearing loss- I write Deaf and hard of hearing characters and I just wrote a scene yesterday with a hard of hearing character saying it's probably time for her to see about if hearing aids work for her.

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад +1

      OOOO! A sign that replaces facial expressions sounds interesting!
      If it was me personally signing with you, if i didn't have access to your facial expressions, maybe there would be some situations we would need to clarify some stuff but I think body movement works as well like shoulder shrugs or head nods.
      But most signers would try to figure out a way to make the communication work because that's what we do when most people don't understand our signs :D

      So far I've found with one woman I was communicating with outside, we defaulted to typing on our phones after we'd ran through my tiny bit of ASL. But yeah, the facial expressions irritate me; I work so hard inside on getting them right :D I've been trying to think- I'm primarily using Lifeprint to learn and I think Dr. Bill does use a head tilt in addition to the eyebrows on some questions.

  • @aliasraiderr2

    First off, Thank You for the awesome vids and laughs! Second, I have similar hearing loss...started mild when young progressed to profound and continuing falling downward. Anyways, when I got my hearing aids I was hoping it would help amplify peoples voices and alas...it doesn't. My audiologist did not explain what and how they would help in hearing, and being a newbie I didn't know the right questions to ask. It is definitely important for others to know before putting down a ton of money.
    How do you deal with not getting amplified voices and hearing only amplified sounds rattle off in all sorts of directions. I can't adjust, it literally gets on my nerves.
    Didn't know if there was anything else that could be done to help adjust to it?
    I have had hearing aids for 5 yrs now. I also have other chronic illnesses, so half the time I don't feel like wearing them from having headaches and feeling sick.

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  7 лет назад +1

      Thank youuu!!!!
      It's important to do whatever makes you feel comfortable. So if that means not wearing them, then don't. I have different channels on my hearing aids that help make sound more directional and cuts out more BG noise. Not sure if you have that on yours.
      It takes a while to get used to the channels because you have to test them out and go back to the audiologist and tell them what you need adjusted like if it's too quite or too loud.
      One thing I noticed is that some audiologist don't get the right amount of volume on your hearing aid the first time. So if stuff is too amplified maybe it is too loud? A way to check could be to turn down your hearing aids and see if it is more comfortable. If so you can go back and get them adjusted.
      Just remember you can adjust them and audiologist mess up at times, so let them know what is working/not working for you.
      Hope this helps a bit :)

    hello jessica, my name is Eva, I'm mexican, I'm 27 years old. I'm hoh I saw your videos very funny.
    I only have questions
    What is the difference between language and language? I speak of the signs
    with hearing aids if you listen well with fixed phones (home, office, on the street, etc ...)?
    Do you have he ability to listen another language using the aids, for example German, French, Russian, etc.?
    there are only three curious questions
    I wait for answers. nice day :)

      Hi Eva!
      I cannot hear other languages as well as English with my hearing aids. I have a profound hearing loss in both ears. Other people who wear hearing aids might be able to hear speech with the hearing aids. If they do that means their hearing is better than mine. I also cannot answer phones or hear talking on the radio. This is a good question! I will probably make a video about this soon! :)

    I wish mine had a on and off switch lol. You have to actually open the battery door to turn them off. And mine does not have a volume control switch either. I have to have an audiologist adjust the volume control. But I understand why though. I do take mine off when I don't want to listen to annoying people lol.

    Is ok for a boss to ask you if you are wearing hearing aids?

    I know you have a family of your own, does your whole family know ASL because I'm worried if I learn it I won't really have anyone to practice with beside my older sister who lives an hour from us who is an interpreter for the deaf.

      My family is still learning it. It helps me a ton to have apps like facetime, Google Duo, Glide to practice signing with others who sign. So perhaps if your sister has one of those apps it might be cool to practice with her.

    What does your own voice sound to you when you are talking? Like does it sound the same muffled way or because you know what exactly you are saying it sounds clear?

      Hi!
      This is such a good question! If I record it, I have NO idea what I am saying! I can "hear" my voice but I can't make out the words or the speech since my hearing loss is profound.

    what if more than 30 people respond to the newspaper article? Will they be charged more?why does this industry appear to be so illegitimate?

    I have 2 Digital Hearing aids, but they are not sounding right. Everything sounds like warbling. I miss listening to my music. I cannot hear pure tones any more. It''s all warbling! :'(

      Steven Scott I usually end up feeling the music more than hearing it now days. good thing I have neighbors who are okay with me playing the music loud enough to feel it :D

      Not me. I live in an apartment. One neighbor downstairs asked me to turn it down. He didn't have a problem with the music itself, but he could feel the base downstairs.

      I remember not being able to play music loud during that time I was like thank goodness for concerts!

    For me, I don't like the sound. It is too metallic-y sounding and I don't like the feedback. I can't get used to it.
