    Loved this! When I try to explain to people that I am HOH they always ask "Why don't you wear hearing aids then so you can hear me better?". My hearing loss is due to a nerve/brain issue. It doesn't matter how loud you make the sounds; if my brain can't process them correctly it isn't going to help. Now I can show them this awesome video to show them not all people with hearing loss will benefit from aids. So glad I found your channel after your video with Drew!!!

      Mya Nichols Yes, I am the same. Mine is nerve damage, and the volume doesn't matter. I can't make out many consonants and my brain can't decipher what is being said, even if someone is screaming to me.

      Same with me. Sensorineural hearing loss. Severe in one ear and profound/fully deaf in my other. Tried a hearing aid in my better ear. All it did was make speech hard to understand.

    Hilarious Jessica! Just subscribed. Bothers me when people thing that hearing "beep" in a hearing test means that you can "hear and understand" speech. This is why we (ie. audiologists) do word recognition testing. This allows us to understand how much information your brain will get and understand when simulating hearing aids. The lower the Word Recognition Score = Less hearing aids will help you.

    I LOVE your energy on this video. I just found your channel, Ive already subscribed. Hearing aids have helped me tremendously but my hearing loss for now is only on the high frequencies. Think of an MP3 with very low quality. That is my hearing! HAHA! So it adds clarity to speech and sounds in general. But for profound hearing loss, that is a different situation.

    Omg just subscribed and looove your videos ❤️
    I’m a hearing aid user since always, but recently started using it more. It’s only one, because I only hear in one ear (What’s the English word for “hipoacusico”?)
    I love everything about your videos because SUBTITLES 😍
    And yes, that’s a horrible problem I have, when I have my hearing aid and still can’t hear clearly because my dog (my mom’s, actually) is barking or my brothers are playing or my mom is hearing music or every other noise that’s not the voice of the person talking to me. It’s difficult to tell people that a hearing aid is not going to let me hear like they do. It helps, but is not the solution.
    Soooo (I’m going to cut it here, because I like to write and this was supposed to be a comment not an email), thank you for existing. You let me learn ASL while I learn and laugh. Thanks from Mexico ❤️

    I had normal hearing until my 20's when I started losing it. Each year it got worse and worse. Understanding speech is very tricky for me now. Even when I go to the movies and get the headphones and blast it, it doesn't matter because I lose consonants and I still don't understand what is being said. It's super frustrating for my husband and even more so for me. My mother is profoundly deaf.

    This video is old, but I get it! I have moderate hearing loss and I hear close to perfect with hearing aids, but not quite. I also have high frequency hearing loss, so I understand that too!

  • @Cdmeggers
    @Cdmeggers 6 лет назад +10

    "Can't hear me? Just turn your hearing aid up!!!" U,.. no... cause then EVERYThING is louder and that's no good! I hear noise and sounds way easy, but speech is a whole 'nother ball park. Even with my cochlear implants I can't separate speech from noise at times. My poor brain just gets too overwhelmed trying to sort through the noisy mess.

  • @minichimmie1807

    I just laughed so hard watching this video because I can relate so much to this. I thought that when I got my hearing aids it would help with not being able to understand the words people were saying to me when talking, but like you said all it did was make it louder. I'm still trying to work out that part, right now I just attempt to read their lips(which I'm very bad at) and hope for the best. When people assume I have heard them and I really haven't even after the 7th time of me asking them to repeat themselves I just give up and smile & nod at them or laugh hoping these are appropriate responses.

    Hey Jessica I decided I wanted to try and go a few days without sound on RUclips. I wanted to see what it was like watching RUclips as a deaf person I was amazed to find how many people don't caption their content. (I also found out how awful auto-caption is ) it is insane time how many people just don't even think about the deaf community.

    Thank you so much for this! As someone who has worn hearing aids for 19 years, I feel it's important that both hearing and deaf/hard of hearing people better understand how hearing aids works. It can be difficult to explain to someone that hearing aids are not like remotes that just turn up the volume on something. And, I love that this is short and straight to the point. Definitely will point people to this video if they need some clarification. ♥

    I grew up being forced to wear hearing aids and am profoundly deaf. It felt like my head is a Maraca! Such a bliss without it. I didn't really need it and the school though it would help. They were so wrong. *facepalm* I stood up for myself in middle school and quit wearing it. :)

    Also, hearing aids can only really cut a hearing loss in half. If someone has a moderate-severe sensorineural hearing loss amplification could potentially only bring them up to the moderate range which leaves out a lot of sounds (women's especially).

    I recently just got told that I would be needing hearing aides now I'm only 13 and extremely outgoing I want to be able to be proud of my hearing aids and show them off how can I do this also the issue is that I'm new to the deaf and HOH community I've only really started exploring it when I found out I was getting hearing aides because I'm almost completely deaf and don't have any younger friends or know anyone who is d/Deaf my parents are both hearing parents and none of my friends are d/Deaf how do I become more involved in the d/Deaf and HOH community and make friends who are my age who can relate to the same problem I do

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  6 лет назад

      Hi Ana!! One suggestion would be to look up sign language classes in your area and then you or your parents can ask the teachers if they know where you can go to meet kids your age. Almost all sign language teachers are involved in the Deaf/HoH community which is pretty cool. Another idea would be to look up and see what is the nearest Deaf school and then have you or your parents email them and see if they have any suggestions as well. Hope these help! Keep me updated if you do try these things and stay awesome :)

  • @ellemariec

    Jessica, are you a candidate for cochlear implants, then? As far as I understand hearing loss, the hearing aids simply amplify the sound and cochlear implant actually help with the signal to the brain.

    • @JessicaFloresLimeMoney
      @JessicaFloresLimeMoney  6 лет назад +2

      Yes I am, my audiologist told me that I could get implants if I wanted to but I won't be getting them. I am not against them, just don't want them.
