Me and my family are hearing, but ever since I was little, my mom would send me off to the bus by signing ILY. It's a fond memory and one that I've begun to revisit recently -- i've signed ILY to my (hearing) friends before. I had no idea it was such an important sign in Deaf culture, and now I'm interested to learn more about it (and maybe make sure I'm being respectful when I use it)!

He doesn't see it as the ILY sign, he sees as the devil horns hand gesture used by rockers and metalheads although you're not supposed to have your thumb sticking out when doing it and he doesn't know that he didn't invent it, the gesture was invented back in Italian lore used by people commonly to fend off against individuals who gave them the evil eye, it's basically the middle finger towards demons.
Now I appreciate what KISS did for music back in the 70s and 80s, hell, I liked their music from the 70s, one of my all time favorite albums is Destroyer by KISS which is an absolute classic.
Unfortunately KISS started going downhill when Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons fired Ace Frehley and Peter Criss from the band for drinking and doing drugs which is ironic because Paul and Gene liked to party and indulge themselves into rivers of women.
I can say that KISS died with Eric Carr all the way back in 92 and since then, Gene Simmons has been making headlines and news being a total asshole to his fans, treating his fellow musical peers like garbage, acting like a selfish and greedy jackass and lying about shit such as him supposedly popularizing the devil horns gesture when in truth it was Ronnie James Dio (RIP) who popularized it in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music back in the 80s.
    Fuck Gene Simmons.
He's nothing but a self-centered, greedy, ignorant shitstain.
I won't miss him when he drops dead.

So far I've only watch a few of your videos and I think you're awesome! I'm sure others have told you but just in case they havent, you speak amazingly. I have tought myself a few words in sign language and want to learn more. I work a customer service job and a few of my customers inspire me to learn.

Keep up the signing! :) As for speaking, yes a lot of people have told me that! But believe it or not, a lot of people who speak and are Deaf don't like getting that comment including myself, but don't worry! I don't take it personal!
I think that a lot of people don't realize when they say that it comes off kinda negative, because those of us who went to a main stream school and grew up speaking orally, we have struggled our whole lives with communication just because we can speak.
Speaking is always a one way street for me and many other Deaf/HoH people, it allows us to talk but it never allows us to hear and understand who we are speaking to. There are more reasons like if you look up the Deaf vs. Alexander Gram Bell (I am going to be doing a video on this at some point)
      historybuff.com/alexander-graham-bell-actually-huge-jerk-EZgXDze0AjYG
I always encourage people to learn sign language. I'd sign in more of my videos if I could but I have only been learning for a year and a half. But I hope you continue to learn more signs they are really helpful! I can't tell you how much it means to me when people start signing to me at restaurants and businesses. If you do learn, keep me update! :)

Jessica Flores I had no idea, thank you for informing me of this.
It felt amazing for me when deaf customer told me "thank you" for learning. Sadly the one main customer I have that was one of the bigger reason I wanted to learn didn't seem to care at all that I had taught myself a few things. It was a bit discouraging but learning is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I definitely appreciate the reply. I look forward to watching future videos.

it's crazy how people can just not understand how much people need this language. It has changed my life. I am hearing. but I love deaf culture and have taken two college courses in ASL. and am a part of my colleges ASL club. I have met some of the most amazing people and bring being able to talk to people in different ways and different languages is amazing and enlightening. and the fact that Gene is doing this without even thinking of the impact that it would have on AN ENTIRE CULTURE AND LANGUAGE is ridiculous.

hi jessica love your amusing video. my sister cathy was born profoundly deaf in the mid 50s. well 1956 to be exact. when she was 3 years old my parents sent her to a deaf institute in st louis missouri called st joseph's it was run by nuns and she was taught to speak. today she speaks extraordinarily well for a person who has never heard any sound her entire life and is very highly educated. i too am very upset that gene is trying to trademark ily thinking it is the devil horns gesture, there is proof that other musicians before him used the proper devil horns gesture not to be confused with the ily sign.

A view moments ago I read some very interesting facts I'd like to share with you:
It's just not true that he was the first one. He used it first in 1974. But John Lennon from the Beatles used this sign already 1969. Now attention please: much (!) older is ASL. Here it exist since 140 (!) years: So, where does the Copyright belong to??? We didn't want to have. Everyone should have the right to show to love and/or respect someone else.
Love your Videos you share with us. I'm HOH and enjoy it.

IM SCREAMING SHE REALLY DID THAT TO FAKE DEEP HEARING PEOPLE

  • @brickzzzzzzz

hearing people will never really comprehend what its like being deaf. My family is hearing and Im deaf, Ive been put in speech therapy and other therapies trying to understand the hearing world. I'm still learning ASL and I love using it, I feel free and like I don't have to hide. Throughout my education in middle school and high school everyone thought that I wasn't going to graduate with a normal diploma, I did get a normal diploma. My teachers didn't care that I couldn't hear and I used lip reading to get by in high school. I couldn't go to a deaf school because there wasn't anywhere I lived. Now that I'm in college, I use caption devices and an interpreter. Without English for hearing people, how will they communicate, that's what this Gene person is doing, he wants to make money on a Real Language and that's just not fair and wrong in my opinion.

Gene’s definitely wrong on this one and is an idiot if he thinks otherwise. The normal metal horns gesture is with the thumb tucked in, resting on top of the middle and ring fingers. In the context of use in music, it was used by other musicians back in the ’60s. Gene even admits that he borrows his version from comic books. (Does Spiderman come to mind for anyone else?)

  • @J9Dalton
    @J9Dalton 7 лет назад +2

Actually, Gene Simmons want to trademark this hand gesture as a "DEVIL HORNS"! Guess we see each other as devils. >:)

Hi Jessica, how r u? I hope u doing good. I just have this question in my mind since I searched about hearing loss ppl and found u and others girls. I don't know what is the answer so I kept being depressed of everything and I hated everything about me. The question is .. does hearing loss or hard of hearing person should have depression? I mean did u felt depressed because u realized who u r? I feel not okey because always I have to fight to get what I want or to do what I want even the simple stuff then I realized I shouldn't have to do that because it's simple word it's "my rights as hard of hearing person" and everyone in my life should know that but the true is not so I hope to find the answer. Again sorry for the long message.. regards.
