@@dzigayu4944I mean when houndstone was banned it was the only accessible pokemon with the move, but yeah I still think they should have just banned it to ubers rather than the pup itself and have been done with it.
@@dzigayu4944 It's a question of banning logic. You can technically always say any pokemon is not banworthy if yout ake away its good moves. If you ban all moves from Rayquaza except Tackle it will probably be ok in OU, but no one will say doing that is a good idea. Now you say "well obviously you can't just ban moves like Flamethrower and Shadow Ball which half the mons in the game get, Last Respect is different". And the logic is to ask then why do you say it is different? We knew it was not going to stay exclusive to Houndstone so multiple pokemon can get it, making it just a generic move. If a bunch of pokemon use it and are not broken but there's one abuser, you ban the abuser not the move. So they waited to see if the move was broken or not to ban it over Houndstone. "Ho but it was always obvious it was OP on any mon, so we should have done it before" are we predicting the future now? Tons of stuff got called OP before being tested and found out to be fine. Ppl were clamoring for Ursaluna to be released already in Ubers FFS. It might have been obvious that the move was overtuned but rules exist for a reason and following them consistently is what makes the tierin have any sor of logic.

Personally, while I understand the Ubers philosophy of minimizing the amount of bans in the tier, I also believe it's an outdated one in a time where we now have AG and UUbers, and the precedent becomes more of an active hindrance to the format than what defines it. Ubers is no longer the banlist, it's the tier above OU, and I think it should be recognized as such and the ban should go through.
Also - a simple nerf to last respects will happen. It'll probably go +20 per fained ally, which puts it at 110 and comparable to thunder, hydro pump, solar beam, etc. I personally think that'd be WAY more balanced
Anyone remember back when SV came out and the OU council tried to justify why they wanted to ban the dog instead of Last Respects? The irony is palpable. Pretty sure they said if Last Respects was problematic on other Pokemon they would think about banning Last Respects too
When basculegion was revealed I called this happening. If last respects was insane on a middling Pokémon it was always going to be ridiculous on a good Pokémon
Pokemon should really avoid using super-high-scaling moves like this in the future imo. The powercreep is ridiculous, and extremely unbalanced even in single-player. Scaling stats with abilities like Supreme Overlord is fine, because stat boosts already do that, but scaling attack power is just multiplicative growth in combination with stat and ability boosts.
There balanced around formats that don't bring Six pokemon. Last respects isn't broken in Battle Stadium Singles or VGC where it caps out at 150 or 200. Supreme overloard isn't very nearly as good as defiant in VGC either.
Supreme Overlord is every bit as multiplicative as Last respect The problem isnt this math shit your thinking about. Its just the numbers is high. Respect gets 200% boost with 1 death and 50% with 2 death 33% with 3 and 25% with 4 with 1 death already putting it at earthquake level
@@screwtokaiba I meant that the power of a move heavily dictates the total damage output after stats, stat boosts, and abilities. I simply wish that moves that scale up in power like this don't become the main meta, because having various potentially 200-300 power moves could be a problem. My point with Supreme Overlord is that it doesn't define the meta, because it isn't nearly as threatening as having a sweeper ability in combination with Last Respects, even if the numbers are about the same.
@@10Gpixels i agree with stats(if you add 100 bst to an offensive mon stats its about as good as Adaptability on a good 130 base offense and thats 1/6 of your bst budget even on Mythicals) but ability not so much since ultimately the way they affect the game is done exactly the same way. They both amplifies stats in the mechanically similar but separate bracket
I honestly love Basulegions design, its shiny form, and its move pool outside of last respects. Its a really interesting swift swim sweeper with some fun moves and a good typing. Its a shame that last respects is so OP and is the only real reason its ever seen.
and im left in the dust. i came up with this strategy day 1 scarlet and violet on showdown when i saw how broken last respects was. ran it with a rain team for swift swim
Always worth mentioning is that bans happen because of things that reduce play diversity. The question is if Last Respects is forcing everyone on the ladder to build certain ways, and if the resulting games play with enough room for skill expression. Last Respects has an inherent problem because it forces games to play out the same way every time whether it works or not.
Is a high speed pokemon with perish song or dragon tail not viable? could force it to switch out and attack around it until it's the last one left. problem with perish song being, you would need 3 stall turns/moves or 3 extra pokemon alive to take one shots
If you're insane, you can get Last Respects above 300 Power Last Respects doesn't count how many of your Pokémon *are fainted* Last Respects counts how many times any of you're Pokémon have fainted. If you use Revival Blessing you can get Last Respects to count 6 or more KOs
I looked it up, and apparently, Last Respects is a physical move. This pokemon's got a pretty damn good attack stat. Only making things worse for anything tanking the hit.
I will never understand why competitive pokemon is basically " that strategy is very good, so we will ban it" and its an endless loop apparently "lets create this category to enable banned pokemon to be played competitively... But we will still ban good strategies"
Stuff gets banned if it beats basically everything while being hard to teambuild for while not gimping your team. Stuff like lando, tusk gambit have good checks (water types, grass, no recovery, and there are multiple of those in OU) that are easy to fit on teams. Basc needs either a normal type(all are shit besides arceus) or a dark type to sucker punch mindgame(basc subs and 2hko everything that resists it)
@@oscen335 it still seems to me that one thing gets banned for "being to OP" and the next "its to OP it needs to be banned" comes out right after until you basically have nothing to play with and therefore you need all these categories like OU,UU,RU,UBERS etc

5 faints means it becomes a 130 bp move, wich still makes strong enough to feel worth sacrificing your teammates for(it makes it a ghost type last resort basically, since you'relikely to scarf yourself in it to maximize damage at this point), but also it is not too op and can be easly tanked by just a resist, making it not that big of a crutch anymore.
I think gaining 30 bp would be for the best
The taxis are struggling
The fact last respects basculegion is more problematic than the already problematic Koraidon and Miradon is just insane to think about
I have heard so much the phrase "yveltal is not in gen 9" that i believe it was the only thing keeping ubers together.
I mean if the gen 6 legendaries where in gen 9 they would’ve probably be banned since Tera dark and fairy
@@daofficerofthenoodles7504 looking at natdex ubers

@@galaxystudios370 I mean national dex different competitive then gen 9
back in the day, TheKillerNacho uploaded a gen 4 video of a magikarp sweeping in ubers using flail at 300 power. Giving a significantly better pokemon a stab flail that doesn't rely on being low hp was always going to end like this.
Imagine going back in time and telling someone that Basculin’s evolution will be under consideration for a ban from Ubers lol
Youre forgetting that this happened to Dunsparce before this.
Dunsparce was a straight up bad mon pre Gen 9, Basculin just mediocre

breaking news: wo-chien currently being scouted by the agency, updates to follow at 11
252+ Atk Choice Band Adaptability Tera Ghost Basculegion Last Respects vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 293-346 (78.3 - 92.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Its not a standard set on either poke either. If you have a standard SpD wo chien you get OHKO'd 90% of the time and no matter what set its always a 2HKO. There is nothing that can take two basculegion hits in the game at the moment.
@@dengar96 wo-chien only needs 2 turns
CACTUR- ig that works too😔
glad to know Last Respects was always the problem instead of Houndstone
It always was, I will never understand why they're so reluctant to just ban this obviously extremely broken move that was clearly not design with 6v6 singles in mind.
@@dzigayu4944True but Hounstone is mid without it so what is the big deal?
The power of this funny fish makes me proud, taking what was basically a no-name water-type and turning it into a godly fish was the best thing to happen in 2022
4:00 It's worth noting that Ghost-Fighting can hit ALL BUT ONE TYPE COMBO for neutral damage or better
Thank you Mr fish
Singles players trying not to be rinsed by a dead fish every match:
The fact that a combo of a bee and a fish that pays its respects is destroying stuff like zacian crowned and miraidon is hilarious to me
So this thing rips apart armies of gods to avenge its friends they've killed?
This fish just went full Kratos.
It can 2 hit to 3 hit ETERNAMAX Eternatus.
252+ Atk Adaptability Basculegion Last Respects vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eternatus-Eternamax: 284-336 (43.6 - 51.6%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO
Meanwhile
252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (85 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eternatus-Eternamax in Heavy Rain: 88-104 (13.5 - 15.9%) -- possible 7HKO
Yeah…
That’s a little more than Kratos
I hope it will get a suspect test and not a quickban, it may be problematic but it's not calyrex shadow level
I love basculegion so much its so cool. Like it evolved from one of the crappiest pokemon its probably the best glow up
Basically, Dracovish's successor
HUGE fan of this tyoe of long-form competitive analysis content!
"Basculegion isnt a legendary, but you wouldnt know it if you watch battles with it"
*Proceeds to show an Ubers game that isnt a battle with it*
Bring back pursuit, and suddenly there's a dead fish in the water. also a traumatized gold plated cheese stick dude that would look both ways on the OU street.
"But noooooooo, let's delete Pursuit and leave ghosts unchecked!" said Game Freak.
Love the new call to action animations, really professional looking
Bro they're straight up trolling singles players at this point and not even trying to hide it lmao
"And this was the moment when Smogon finally... _jumped the shark_"
It also counters a lot of priority moves:
Extreme Speed, Quick Attack, Feint ---> No effect
Mach Punch, Vacuum Wave ---> No effect
Aqua Jet, Jet Punch, Water Shuriken ---> Resist
Bullet Punch ---> Resist
Ice Shard ---> Resist
Weak to ---> Grassy Glide (needs terrain), shadow sneak
---> Sucker Punch, Thunderclap (requires incoming attack)

I am all for a Basculin evo to join the elite group of pokemon banned from ubers along side heavy hitters like Wynaut Mega Rayquaza and Funbro.
My dude back to the OG editing style with the Gen 3 music
Ribombee is really good, it can outspeed legendaries and knows quiver dance and sticky web
So glad my king basculin is not only getting his spotlight but also his place in history with the chance of being sentenced to anything goes
Anyone remember back when SV came out and the OU council tried to justify why they wanted to ban the dog instead of Last Respects? The irony is palpable. Pretty sure they said if Last Respects was problematic on other Pokemon they would think about banning Last Respects too
Well, they did that. Basculegion is NU, because Last Respects is banned in every tier except UBERs
Supreme Overlord is every bit as multiplicative as Last respect
The problem isnt this math shit your thinking about.
Scaling attack power also can't be stopped by Unaware, removing one of the defensive counterplays.
Last respects is now banned in ubers
I honestly love Basulegions design, its shiny form, and its move pool outside of last respects. Its a really interesting swift swim sweeper with some fun moves and a good typing. Its a shame that last respects is so OP and is the only real reason its ever seen.
Basculiegion: I see no gods up here, OTHER THAN ME
Tell anybody from 2020 that a Basculin would be banned from Ubers, and they'd think that quarantine made you go mad
“Last respects+adaptability ” that’s how fast I can explain why legion is so good
We knew this would happen after whole Houndstone situation.
If I had a nickle for every time an ancient fish pokemon broke the meta I would have two nickles
As someone whose never played Ubers, let the fish stay
Basculegion and Dracovish being the same color palette is icing on the cake lmao
and im left in the dust. i came up with this strategy day 1 scarlet and violet on showdown when i saw how broken last respects was. ran it with a rain team for swift swim
Last Respects and the Treasures of Ruin reminding us that this game is balanced only around doubles, despite the entire game being singles
Simply play vgc format. Then surely everything will be balanced haha (I wish)
@@doublereel-real incineroar is always watching
Basculin saw how it was mocked in gen 5 and has come back for revenge.
It wants blood, and by Arceus it will have it.
Last respects being broken in ubers is so unsurprising
Is a high speed pokemon with perish song or dragon tail not viable?
could force it to switch out and attack around it until it's the last one left.
problem with perish song being, you would need 3 stall turns/moves or 3 extra pokemon alive to take one shots
Dragons, Mythical entities, Deities all bow down to Big Fish.
FINALLY MY BABY BASCULEGION IS ACTUALLY USEFUL FOR SOMETHING
5:27 I don't get the joke
Its like the Kingambit of OU, dominating in the late game, but decent in early and mid game
If you're insane, you can get Last Respects above 300 Power
Last Respects doesn't count how many of your Pokémon *are fainted*
Last Respects counts how many times any of you're Pokémon have fainted.
If you use Revival Blessing you can get Last Respects to count 6 or more KOs
They were on crack when they came up with last respects
It's balanced...in 4v4 doubles. In 6v6 singles it's broken in half. Game Freak just doesn't care about singles.
I love his design so rhis makes me happy
@@GetClippedLeague because the Op stuff usually keeps other broken shit in check. Broken checks broken is not a metagame thats healthy. The lower tiers are for Pokemon that are outclassed by others. Abomasnow is usually outclassed by atales at its niche so itll find a place to set hail in a lower tier.

Is it crazy to say Arboliva seems viable as a counter? Immune to ghost, STAB on grass, and big enough SpA to be a threat if not dealt with (which will be hard when most of their other Pokemon are dead to buff Last Respects).
Edit: it also outspeeds Basculegion in trick room bc of its garbage 39 stat.
Powercreep is one hell of a drug (seriously tho, how tf did the game get to this state, it's getting ridiculous now)
So basically Basculegion is like the Kingambit of Ubers
It feels like a few days ago it was in UUbers
@FreezaiPokemon Where did you get the custom Pokémon Trozei/Pokémon Shuffle sprites from? Now I'm curious!
Last respect is definitely getting nerfed next gen. +10 per faint on a 50 power move could still make a 100 power ghost move.
@5:50 The reason you run Bascu at lvl 98 is to be slower than lvl 100 NDM. At least that's why I ran lvl98 on my Top 100 Bascu team

1. The only good normal type is Arceus which competes with Arceus Ground and Arceus Fairy which are both integral to stopping Koraidon and Miraidon (who guess what, you lose to automatically if you cant answer)
2. Basculegion is a late game sweeper. It wont sweep until the game is almost over. By then most mons will be chippef and hazards will be set
3. What viable Ubers mon commonly runs iron defense?
