Today I Flew America's Worst Airlines in order to find out which is truly the worst! American Airlines and Spirit Airlines are both considered to be the worst airlines in all of the United States and America but which is actually the worst? The first AA flight you took was not a real American Airlines operated flight, it was Piedmont Airlines operated as American Eagle. Piedmont as well as other regional carriers operates for American Eagle, United Express, Delta Connection, and Horizon (Alaska). The non-regionals/mainlines are not as bad as many have always anticipated after experiencing a regional vendor representing their legacy mainline's coat of paint.
The reason Piedmont Airlines was on the safety information packet is that the American Eagle flights are operated by airlines in the American Airlines Group. That flight was operated by Piedmont Airlines, one of the airlines in the group.

Piedmont is the operator of the American Eagle flight you were taking, which is why their logo was on the emergency pamphlet. American hires a few regional airlines to operate flights on their behalf. It's common practice with the 3 big US airlines. Air Canada does this as well with their Express flights which are operated by Jazz Aviation and Chorus. Great video!
Piedmont is a big operator at my home airport because they have some hangars here

@@ericstruknope. Most major airlines participate in what's known as " codesharing" So you buy the tickets on Delta, American, United websites. The aircraft and everything look like the airline you booked with, but they're actually operated by a completely different company. So for example Delta uses Skywest, Express Jet, etc. American Airlines uses Envoy, PSA, Piedmont, etc. United uses Mesa, United Express, Skywest, etc.
I fly American all the time and no issues. Great service. Easy check in. Only time check in can typically be a issue for international flight is if you didn't supply all needed information or ticket booked last minute.
The Wi-Fi for not watching supplied entertainment may come at a cost, but American provided entertainment is free via Wi-Fi.
Now i am a tmobile customer so their free Wi-Fi you mention is a bonus through them.
I've never been on their piedmont regional operator flights, but the others i have been on were nice planes and service was good.
Just my opinion of course, everyone will have their own interpretation based on their experience with any airline.
My American experience was easy , The check in was easy the seats were comfy the boarding was easy we didn’t even have any upgrades or anything over all I think American is a good airline

I have nexus as a Canadian-American, and it is SO worth it whenever we are flying to Canada or driving there. It gives you a huge time difference and lets you skip a huge line. Overall if you could get it, get it. It is not very expensive at all either.

I just completed a round trip flight from ABQ NM to Hartford CT this month. I will never fly American again. No longer will I only go with the cheapest rate. I had no idea American had this horrendous customer rating but the plane was always short on overhead bin space and looking for people to voluntarily check their carry-on luggage (free of course) and then the boarding would be late, the take off would be late, the pilot would come on and promise to try to "shave off a few minutes" on the flight but would ultimately land late.
I was in jeopardy of missing my connection both heading to CT and returning to NM. In fact, I did miss my connection on the way home. First time in my entire life. Dallas/Fort Worth was a nightmare for me. I got to my gate for the connecting flight and it was like a damn ghost town. Everyone was gone. Lights out, nobody home. This was close to 10:30 pm I'd say. Go figure ! One of American's flights left on time and it was the one I was late for.
Spent at least an hour in a customer service line with 2 diversity hires at the desk who could barely speak intelligible English but got a hotel room, a taxi to and from the hotel and a meal voucher. Booked on another flight in the morning (which was also, you guessed it, LATE.)
Never again, my friends. Don't fly American. I can assure you, you will regret it. Way too much drama and who needs that when you are going somewhere? Not I.
Almost always fly spirit only been delayed 1 time and always have a nice experience (with agents) honestly I don’t think they are bad especially for a budget aorline
American and United are the only U.S. carriers to fly the ERJ 145, which is the first American plane you flew. I remember the last time you flew Delta was on their CRJ 900 plane so not the exact same but close

That wasn't a near wing strike on Ryanair a few weeks ago. They're just such an enthusiastic airline, they high five the runway when landing!
I only fly United and star alliance airlines so I'm not the most familiar with flying those airlines. The only things I liked about Spirit airlines was 1. It was good for little flights when you wanna see someone you know for a day and go back for just as cheap. 2. The planes are pretty darn quiet.
United seems to have to rudest flight attendants.

@@FFEMTB08 I fly on US legacy carriers often, CS staffs and flight attendant attitude really depends on where they based off of. The rudest flight attendant I encountered was on Delta, it was between SFO-MSP, she was such a bitch.

I flew With spirit to Puerto Rico from denver, 2 4hr Flights 1 was overnight and plane was mostly empty so me and my wife took the extra seat for more space, didn't had any issues with them.

Flown on spirit a fair amount, never had any issues, not super comfortable but I never fly longer than like 4 hours. Never had any issue with booking either. Super cheap too lol

I also want to share my recent experience from a recent trip to Philadelphia - Athens, August 15, with American Airlines
To make my ride more comfortable, I paid a hefty sum for a more comfortable seat. A few hours before departure, I looked at the seats on the airline's website and saw that some paid seats, including 3 seats in front of me, were not sold and were free. So, when landing, one couple entered the cabin, who first sat in their seats at the back / the seats were free there, but after 5 minutes they probably didn’t like it there and they moved to paid seats that no one bought and they were empty. I'm sure they didn't pay, I heard their conversation. And in this regard, I also had a surprise .... I paid for the same paid seat, and others just sat there for free without spending anything and no one even checked that they were not sitting in their place

Great Job, Eric ! I have been flying American Airlines for years. My last three flights have been absolute nightmares. Anything that could go wrong did. There is a reason they have so many bad reviews. Delta & Alaska Airlines in my opinion seem to be the best Domistic Airlines.

My dad flies American 319, 320, and 321. He loves it, and says the planes aren't in bad condition. Also, when you said "I've flown Delta on this same model and it was a lot nice," Delta doesn't even have ERJ-145s.
They use to. They retired their ERJ-145 in 2015 and 2016

Hi Eric, just a few things but most of the time on international flights airlines need to scan your passport at the counter or kiosk to complete check in so I'm assuming that's what your error message was. Also the "other airline" of the safety card is actually the airline that you were flying on which was Piedmont. Which is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines that flies regional routes on their regional aircraft for American. The regional aircraft that you were flying on was an Embraer 145 which doesn't have wifi or streaming entertainment equipped in it so it wasn't "broken" it wasn't available on that flight. Also the 145 is a lot different than the CRJ900 you flew on delta the last time with as the CRJ900 has 26 more seats than the 50 seater 145 and it also has a "first class" cabin compared to the 145 which is because it is a relatively larger regional jet. All in all just be glad you didn't fly on Air Wisconsin on their CRJ200s because in my opinion the 145 you flew on is much nicer than those.
CRJ-200s are known for being the worst planes in the western world, only beaten by Russian deathtraps.

I have been an American Airlines customer for more than 50 years. I know that many of the legacy carriers have undergone a lot of change over the years. However, I would not consider American Airlines to be "the worst" and frankly, I think that they are pretty good.

My parents had 4 flights with american last summer, a roundtrip from DCA-LIM and all 4 flights were delayed by several hours. There was zero weather to be found, so no idea why the delays. On 1 leg, they were stuck in Miami for 3 days because the next few flights to LIM had already filled up to capacity! Ridiculous. They also serve horrible food. After this experience, we have been faithful to United ONLY (IAD) and we have had nothing but amazing experiences with them. We also find the Polaris experience to be much better than American's Flagship Business. The Polaris lounge is also unmatched in the US- love the exclusivity. We don't fly as much as other people do, but we are confirmed for UA Premier Gold status for 2024. Never will try American unless they change CEO's and add IFE.
When we tried to fly frontier, they delayed our flight then brought it back up the day of our flight so we couldn't make the flight because we live over an hour and a half from the airport. I think they refused to refund us too.
Delta vs JetBlue would be EPIC.

I would argue frontier is worse than both spirit and american. WAY more unreliable than both and they’re known for their incredibly strict bag policy

Well, recently I flew from Brussels to Lisbon with TAP Portugal, but the whole plane had information written in bulgarian and russian near the windows which I found weird, then I looked at the planflets in my sit and it said Air Bulgaria instead of TAP Portugal so it all made sense and it wasn't a flight operated by another airline.
I will say American is a good airline. From my airport it is cheaper to fly them (with baggage fees) than United or Southwest. Their seats are like every airline I’ve been on (United, Delta, Southwest, Frontier,and Spirit) and being 6’2, I pay usually pay for main cabin extra to have more room. This guy pointed out the majority of the bad things on his flight, however failed to mention if his flight got cancelled (which happens a lot in the airline industry now) and how the boarding process was. He also mentioned the Wi-Fi situation which is a paid service for any airline.

Erik - maybe you should try JetStar (Qantas low cost airline). I know that it’s in Australia so a while away from you but it’s actually quite a good + cheap airline and there is good food (paid for though). It has reclining seats and decent legroom etc, it’s not late much and the landings are good - I was in Australia and I flew it twice however sometimes it can be quite bad! (Vid 1 of asking for it)
When I flew sprit back in April it was one of the best/worst flights so I was flying from Connecticut to tampa once I sat down the seats were verry stiff and not comfortable and in the middle of the flight we hit a little turbulence we made a smooth touchdown into tampa the flight was pretty good my only complaint would be the seats
2:30 as someone who is currently flying American Airlines I can confirm it is unreliable as a 12-hour journey to like 30 hours because “emergency landing in Costa Rica” so we missed our flight to charlotte and JFK NYC so yea I stick 5 hour layovers in Panama with copa than entire days with American

I frrr flew American Airlines last year and my family and I got our flights delayed 3 times. When we got on the plane, the engine was not working. Then we got moved to a new flight from Dallas to Los Angeles. Los Angeles was a very fun experience, then there was a flight from LA to Taipei, Taiwan. The Eva Air crew were so friendly. Delta is so good!
The reason why there is a different airline on the safety pamphlet for the American Eagle flight is because the plane and crew are from Piedmont Airlines and the flight is also operated on behalf of Piedmont Airlines.
I remember going to Peru visiting family and took American from New York which is around a 7-9 hour ish flight and it was in a 2x4x2 configuration but the plane had absolutely no inflight entertainment or chargers except in first class and the flight attendants tossed around bread with egg for “dinner” in cold bags carelessly. there was another Peruvian family and the dad was complaining to the flight attendants about the service and food, after that flight my family decided to never take american airlines ever again

I’m surprised American didn’t change your flight. When I was going from Rochester, New York to Seattle, Washington, they ended up changing my return flight. So instead of getting home at 6:30 PM like I had originally planned, they were going to make me stay at Chicago O Hare until 9:45 so I wouldn’t have been home until like 11:30. I had personally picked an earlier return flight so I could get home earlier. And when I called customer service, the gentleman on the phone was very rude. We eventually got it handled, but I will never fly with American Airlines again.
The reason why your YYZ-PHL flight said “Piedmont” instead of “American” is because of the regional airlines. The major US airlines don’t actually fly the smallest planes themselves, instead contracting the flights out to regional airlines, Piedmont being one of them for AAL.
It’s a method to reduce costs, as every new airplane type an airline operates introduces extra costs for fleet management. That is why Southwest only operates 737s, and Spirit only operates A320s.

You should fly SW ( southwest) for me and my mom it’s a smooth process and your don’t need to print your boarding pass if you have the app. You can show your boarding pass on the SW app if you wants.

The American Eagle flight was unfairly judged due to the aircraft used, the CRJ-___. It won't have all the features that, say, a 737 or A321 would have. This includes Wi-Fi, in-flight entertainment, etc.

Last month American airline turn around the flight one hour in,just because someone mistakenly call a flight attendant a waiter, it was a flight from New York, to guyana south America, Google it.

How did you end up with an empty middle seat on the regular sized American plane??? We were packed in like sardines on all 4 flights I took with them this month. And OMG, guy. You really had a good experience with them compared to what I had. Read my other comment to hear me belly ache.
Where the heck are these lounges with breakfast buffets? I clearly missed out on something here. I stopped at a "lounge" before my return flight in CT and bought a glass of white wine (after rushing to return my rental car, I needed to decompress). $16.20 ! I should have left it untouched on the bar and walked away.

The only time I flew American it wasn’t the best more specifically they trip back home. I was flying from Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach via Charlotte. When I got to Charlotte, it was great buuuuuut, due to a “Snow Wall” Preventing the plane that was to take us to Myrtle Beach that was supposed to come from Kansas City. It was cancelled (obviously) and I literally had to sleep in the Airport because the hotels and rental cars was all out. My new flight got delayed AGAIN due to winds until noon. Didn’t get home until 1 and my mom’s suitcase didn’t come with us but on another flight to Myrtle. Had to wait until 6 to get the bag. For Spirit, I Hate don’t like, I HATE IT

That's a Canadair Regional Jet 700 operated by Piedmont. American Eagle flights are operated by regional airlines. The second American Airlines jet is a mainline operated by American Airlines. RJ 's make for terrible flight experiences in general. I really like these videos. They are very informative.

My last american airlines flight was not bad except for the fact that there was about a 1 hour delay due to the tire having problems, I'd give them a 6/10

The only reason the American Airlines plane was so small is because it was a American Eagle, they use that for short flights. The normal American Airline plane is much better.

I have only flown American Airlines and it has been good. We had excellent service and free wi-fi. Our flight was smooth, and we got free drinks and snacks.
