I came up with a better plot in like five minutes. So you have the characters all live in the same neighborhood on 'Rhapsody Street', but the kids have like musical career dreams and call it Rap City Street. And the place could be like, between the suburbs and the rural neighborhoods, so you've got big fancy houses out in the country and then like, smaller houses kinda crammed in close to the city. So you have Nicole being this spoiled rich kid living in a country townhouse and then Ricky lives in like a little hastily built house or like a cheap apartment complex built nearby. So then you have Nicole being like Remy Buxaplenty, her parents replace interaction with her with gifts and she's become spoiled. She tends to be pushed into trying to make friends with the kids of other wealthy families, though she doesn't really like them. Of course, since she's expected to be a 'good girl', she doesn't have the guts to go up against her parents. Her only real friend is the Nerd Girl, who's like upper middle class and therefore Nicole's family considers her acceptable. Ricky is a poor kid from low-income housing who doesn't have much, but he loves music and enjoys singing, and someday hopes to get enough money to get proper singing lessons or something. Nicole is nice to him, so despite the fact that most people write her off as being just two faced or spoiled and bratty, he believes that there's much more to her. So when he gives her the bear she's touched by it and is flattered, but her fake friends and family refuse to let her keep it and insist on showering her with more expensive shit...stuff she never wanted or never had any interest in. Ricky, seeing that the bear wasn't kept, thinks he fucked up and becomes extremely upset. He doesn't sing much anymore because he's really hurt. Seeing that Ricky's lost his nerve to do his favorite thing, Nicole decides to rebel. This has gone too far. She tells off her family and runs off to get Nerd Girl and Ricky's friends to go get this bear back from the trash. They use all of their 'weird' talents and hobbies to get the bear back. Now, her parents slowly realize, seeing how unhappy Nicole has been and how happy she is with these other kids, that they've been wrong. They decide that they will make more of an effort to connect with the real her. While they're still working often, they decide to use their free time to do meaningful things with her, and begin to befriend the other parents to bring the community together. There we go.
I got a better movie than the movie: One upon a time Santa gave some kids presents and they believed in him again It terrible but better than a the movie.

Surprised you never tackled this movie sooner. Honestly the most interesting thing about this movie, other than the animation and the grandma that speaks like a robot, is the voice cast.
For sure, i don't know how such big name actors got dragged into this pile of crap, even Nancy Cartwright is In this movie, if I had to guess maybe $20k went into actually production of the film and the rest went to hiring the cast
I heard that the voice actress for the grandma recorded totally normal lines and then the team jumbled her words up because they thought it would be funny? She didn't even know.
At first I was shocked that Nancy Cartwright helped produce this. But then I learned she's also into Scientology, so this isn't the craziest thing she's been involved in.
So I read an article about this and the story boils down to: -boomer duo wants to open an animation studio to make Charlie Brown-like cartoons, one of them tries 3d choreographer, an ms paint style software for the most basic low poly animations for PowerPoint presentations. He convinces other one (the director) to make a full length movie with it. *Hires 3 animators, they realise how shit the program is for actual animation, unlike maya and lightwave they cannot even model stuff in there and it even lacks a rendering engine. *They commission the program developers for custom models, they look like shit and nothing like their concept art. *They are stuck with preset animation loops, no actual animation can be done and have a super tight deadline. *They try to explain it to the director, he ignores them and invests huge parts of the budget to marketing, the cast and even a sequel. They strike a deal with WB, hire an all star cast who do a pretty good job and commission some nice music tracks. *They try to show him how crap it looks, even one of the investors and animator telling the production team that this movie will be a trainwreck. The director fires him. *Two people are left struggling to meet the deadline on a shoestring budget, a shit program and try to save the movie with preset animation, photoshop and after effects. *The first time the director sees how the animation looks is in a house party with all his family gathered. The majority of them leave disgusted in the first ten minutes. The other guy stays in deep regret for pushing the film to be done in a crappy cgi program instead of following the director's original vision. Oh and the grandma's voice is not glitch audio. Debra Wilson was instructed to do the voice of an old lady who sometimes cannot get her words right. So she ended up impersonating Porky Pig.
i think one of the strangest things about this movie is that, no, Grandma's voicelines _weren't_ corrupted or chopped up. the voice actor was actually told to sound disoriented and incoherent. it's in a Polygon article that's quite interesting and reveals a good chunk of the movie's development. that's why the "corruption" sounds clear.

I really think that the actors saw the footage and thought: “that must be the incomplete animations... like some storyboard animatic... the final product must be sooo good” There’s no other way anyone saw this and thought “oh this is the final product, a quality animation”
I wasn't looking at the video while I was listening to the song, and I thought it actually sounded pretty darn good. Even the production behind it was really good.
@@frenchbreadstupidity7054 I mean they've read the script, they gotta know this is just a paycheck movie for them all. I wouldn't try if I was in Walter Jone's shoes or Mark Hamill's.
Some other notable cast members are in this movie - Ricky was voiced by Walter Emanuel Jones who played as Zack on Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. The Grandmother is voiced by Debra Wilson who is well-known on Mad TV and has voice-acted in several animated shows with Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart Valley as her most recent active one. Clint Howard who is famous in the horror movie genre. Jack Angel is on here who has been a voice actor since the 70's. April Winchell who has been voicing Disney's Clarabelle Cow since 1996.
Is it bad that I want to write a better version of Nicole’s song where she talks about how she isn’t obligated to be a good person, only cares about the material aspects of Christmas, and how the idea of Santa is stupid to her, and at some points pours light on her home life and how she wonders how she would be if she was actually paid attention to as a kid and doesn’t have to act out for attention, and then reverts back to “Santa stupid, I don’t need to be nice”?
tbf, voice actors have probably the least investment in how a movie performs. Their only financial gain from a movie is what they get paid before hand so they really aren't affected by the movie's profitability or quality, aside from their own performances so they get hired for other stuff. So they likely just saw that it as easy money and took the jobs.
Grey Delisle-Griffin (who was in the movie) actually stated on Twitter that she hated being a part of this movie, so I’m betting that that was her reaction when she read the script.
@Myke Vision I just assumed that Saber was making a joke that implied that Mark Hamill has unofficially represented the fans of the original trilogy of Star Wars films given how he was rightfully ticked about how the sequel trilogy was bungling so much of what people love and connected with about the other films, the prequels potentially not withstanding, depending on your thoughts on that one. So I figured he meant, "The voice of Star Wars," As in a more representative kind of way. I probably just read too much into it, though.
@Myke Vision I understand sarcasm is hard to read sometimes.. but Saber was being sarcasm, or using subtle humor. He knows Hamill voiced the Joker. He's made other videos talking about Mark Hamill and acknowledging him voicing Joker
well darn, paige went from voicing a girl who doesn't judge others based on appearances all the way to a bratty girl who doesn't care about gifts from nice boys.
Something I learned in college is that you can’t blame one department for something flawed in a movie. You could hire the best animators, voice actors, sound editors, etc, but it wouldn’t matter if the director is inexperienced or lazy. My animation professor worked on a lot of animated movies over the course of his career, one being Mars Needs Moms, which is infamous for the animation. But he had worked on movies like Gravity and Jurassic World and had an impressive show reel. Animated movies take a whole team and a good leader to make sure everything works. Everyone relies on each other for something and no one is useless. If something goes wrong, it’s up to the leadership to make sure it’s fixed, otherwise everything falls apart. A director should be on top of their project and this movie is an example of why.
Yeah... I don't think a director should leave the entirety of the studio to simply do everything and he only see the final product. That's just plain unprofessional.
Whenever I draw something and I think it looks bad I think of Rapsittie Street Kids and I feel better, because no matter how bad my drawings are, they'll never look as horrifying as that movie.
"The only way off this ride is through the sweet embrace of death, but I got you on life support", one of the most frightening and threatening things I've ever heard, good job.

@@daniboy4153 Just throw all of the big Japan and American studios out of the window (MAPPA, Bones, etc.) because whichever studio animated this masterpiece IS the next big studio.
So, just to answer your question about why the actors did this movie... and this goes for any exceptionally badly animated movie... but it's pretty common that the studio will get the voice actors in first, have them record or their lines, and then the animators will work on the cartoon itself. I'm sure that more than half the time, the actors don't even get to see the animation before the product is finished.
Well yeah, that's kinda how it HAS to go. You can't animate the show and then hope to god the actors perfectly match their performances to it. They're typically shown storyboard sequences/animatic-type dealies as they record their lines. So the thing is, when it comes to movies (and show pilots), they never know exactly what the end result will look like until it's done.
@@ElFreakinCid Unless you're dubbing, such as with anime. Then it's the other way round. My point is that the actors likely weren't shown much in the way of how it was going to come out. They may have been shown sketches/storyboards and concept art, but that would have been VASTLY misleading.
@@ElFreakinCid Yeah. There's typically some kind of promotional material used to sell the project and give the actors something to work off of. Somewhere, somehow, these actors got attached to this, and recording their lines first doesn't explain how they got attached to it.
@@Rosa-he6xb That could have been down to editing though. They could have rushed it and messed up the dialogue, or it could have been done on purpose, or they just didn't bother to get her back in for re-records (likely due to budget)... Or Debra Wilson realised it was going to be a total shit-show when given her lines and purposely phoned it in, the crew just running with it rather than re-recording the lines. Personally, I'm betting on the former.
For the scene where Nicole asks who gave them that candle she later says "Do you see anything else?". I believe she was implying that they were poor and had less material items than her. Her house probably had lots of furniture, decorations, all that stuff. While it was poorly executed i do believe she was implying that he was poor.

So I read an article about this and the story boils down to:
-boomer duo wants to open an animation studio to make Charlie Brown-like cartoons, one of them tries 3d choreographer, an ms paint style software for the most basic low poly animations for PowerPoint presentations.

So I figured he meant, "The voice of Star Wars," As in a more representative kind of way. I probably just read too much into it, though.
