- 5 Reasons Why Polytopia Is BETTER Than Hexonia Hey, what’s going on everybody, it’s GullYY here, and today we're diving into a bit of a controversial subject. In this video, I will be discussing 5 reasons why The Battle of Polytopia is a better game than Hexonia. Let’s get started.

Reason #1: Hexonia has no Multiplayer options. Zero. Nada. Not even a pass and play gamemode. Polytopia has both online multiplayer and pass and play, already making it significantly better. These appear to be the features that Hexonia players want the most, but from what I’ve seen, they won’t be coming anytime soon.
Reason #2: Polytopia is much less expensive. With Polytopia, you get 4 free tribes, and the normal tribes are 99 cents (minus Luxidoor) while the specials are 2 dollars. Hexonia has 3 tribes available to play for free, and a couple that you can buy with their in game currency. The rest are going to run you either 2 or 3 dollars. Of course there’s not that large of a difference between one dollar and 2 dollars, but this increase in cost can add up to a whopping 13 USD if you decide to buy every tribe on Hexonia vs the same amount on Polytopia. Overall, Polytopia gives you more versatility at a cheaper price, and it makes Hexonia look like a cash grab in comparison.
We have polytopia with squares, hexonia with hexagons, now trionia with triangles and it is complete

When I was playing Hexonia, I was playing with the Chinese styled tribe and the hexagonal tiles ended up giving my empire the shape of actual China. It was honestly the most satisfying thing I've seen.

Unpopular opinion: I kinda like both artsyles. Polytopia is strategic cubic chess and Hexonia has kinda more moving human units. They seem to be a bit more lively with animations. Coming from someone who played Hexonia before Polytopia,I didn't like how Polytopia looked at first with the artstyle and animations,but then I started thinking of it like geopolitical chess, that's when I started to like it more.

One of the reasons why I love polytopia so much is design. Awesome minimalistic animations, minimalistic UI and awesome music, sound effects. Even in the game there are plenty of sounds that are special for the environment, where you are located in the game map.

Is this a glitch? I was playing with xin-xi on hard(which should actually be named normal)and I got luxidoor as enemy but I haven't bought a single tribe.......

Honestly it's one of the better mobile games when it comes to IAP models, *especially* with multiplayer games. You can't buy success, you aren't energy/timer gated, and you're not at a distinct disadvantage playing completely free to play.
I gladly purchase full featured games outright, but Polytopia is one of the very few microtransaction based mobile games where I've actually made purchases. Mainly to support the developer for using a fair and decent IAP model.

to me the deal breaker is definitely the hexagon layout,its Navy System, and its terrible responsiveness
1.it just make my head hurts looking at the hexagons and atleast for me,make it hard to judge the units movement.
2. the navy system, i just didnt really like it, i rather choose an AoE style of spawning units by creating a port or Sid Meirs Civ style of spawning a naval unit in a city with a direct access to the sea. the hexonia style just make it much longer to create an armada.
hexonia system
summoning a Navy Unit (Captain or bomber) (note that they are slow to move) > bring the unit to a port > and now you can use the unit
compare that to polytopia
have a unit > get to a port and now you can either leave it or upgrade it > use it
i know that Hexonia system is almost the same to the polytopia system but in practice in my opinion Polytopia system is much better to me (i think this one is too subjective but whatever)
3. this one is probably more situational but when i play hexonia it felt quite weird to tap and command your unit. it felt abit off maybe it is the case because of its unability to landscape mode.
i was promised of much more richer gameplay of a "better looking" Polytopia but after i played the first round i immediately uninstall it i deemed it worse and not as fun as Polytopia.
but sometime i may download it once again just to see whats different,but i rather spend that time doing something else

Something I'd add to this list is the fact that Polytopia has more map customization, meaning you can influence to an extent how long your game will be, not just the difficulty.

You forgot that one cannot use every single tile within boundary in hexonia. Whereas, polytopia allows temples to fill up the tiles.
#5 is the main reason for me. It is easy to use someone else's idea, add an extra feature or two and call it better than the original. Making a game from scratch is much harder.
Those 3 dislikes were from the people online in the Hexonia discord.

I haven't played Hexonia, I saw it on the playstore though and just assumed it was a Polytopia rip off... Looked at Hexonias reviews and their maps are much smaller too apparently.
The total for all 12 purchasable tribes is $19 USD (4 special tribes, Luxidoor being like 3-4 bucks because they got insulted one time about their price, and the other 7 Human tribes at a buck a pop).
12 tribes for less than 20 bucks, a bit more with tax. Y'know how much gameplay that is?
I like the hexonia texture more but its indeed quite bland. Most of the game is behind a massive pay-to-win wall. Polytopia is simpler and easier to get into but the texture doesnt suit me for some reason. The tech tree resemblance is in every civilization like games so its doesn't matter. Polytopia discord and subreddit is larger because its been years since its release while hexonia is new (the pay to win is responsible here as well i bet). I like your video, but i'll play both games and see what kind of move hexonia would make to conquer polytopia (they would probably fail unless they remove the pay to win wall though).

I like hexonias simplicity but it’s actually slightly unbalanced in some features such as “Got a broken strategy or good rng that allows you to get a lot of city points? Infinite golems!” or “Got a port? All units can transform into and out of boats as they go from land to sea or vise versa!”. Oh and ofc no multiplayer that’s just lazy in my opinion that they didn’t add it.

And in polytopia you can find a handful of different resources all over the map (fruit, forest etc), in hexonia every biome has its own tech tree (which is the same for every one).
Polytopia does a far better job at naval battle stuff.
If only there was a way to play multiplayer for free it wouldeve been one of my most fav game

Edit: I’d like to add that the devs are probably way cooler. They explain most things, such as why it’s pay to play for multiplayer. They make it mostly free, with something other companies won’t do, as in the free pass and play, as well as 4 tribes free. They have my respect.

When I played Hexonia, the first thing I noticed is how Polytopia has so much more quality and is smoother. Hexonia feels really strange in a way, kind of glitchy and IDK, I just didn't like the feel of it.

to me , polytopia is definitely better than hexonia. however, there are some points that hexonia is better especially there are soecial giant and special units in each tribes with different skills but polytopia only has 3 special tribes. I always imagine the tribes in hexonia fight against each other in polytopia system. it must be so cool

Hexonia might seems to be fun due to being more complex where the Giant isn't just a big unit with nothing unique. Such as a Golem that knockback enemy to encourage tactical capture; or Elephant that makes the argument of "annoying naval" failed.

I rather expect Hexonia lower down the price and release a paid Steam standalone ver rather than grinding Rubies forever. (And State of Survival ad time!) The lack of Temple mechanic and Perfection mode just make both games different. While "Perfection" is actually easier in Hexonia bcs "dock abuse" isn't the only option for Stars.
(Don't even need power-ups, just have at least 3 opponents, even with latest AI Alliance mode where enemies attack together)

Polytopia is different bcs the more tribes, the better due to distractions and Alliance (gift tech) system. In another word, u have to spend money for at least few tribes to score perfect stars easier. (They released Steam ver so I hav less excuse on this. Also OP desert tribe)

Due to the lack of actual content and the charm of (weird) Polytopia mechanic, but... Mainly ability to play on PC instead of my crappy phone, makes me lose interest on Hexonia. If Hexonia release Steam ver at a fair price with ALL unlocked tribes I would still not enjoy it if AI don't abuse their tribe's unique characteristics (fast city, archer rush, raider hit & run, etc). I am doubting if Steam Polytopia has sth new as well...

Honestly I much prefer Polytopia to Civilization, it's much quicker (I have ONE save in Civ and it got boring on turn 70-something with fast setting) and simpler (a balanced number of unit and resource types). And I'm bad at both of the games lol

Reason 2 : you get 5 free tribes plus there's more coming every other tribe
Reason 3 : IPad and the devs are working on it
Reason 4 : Hexonia is a small game sadly
Reason 5 : Hexonia will have free multi-player and has 2 current game modes along with the soon to come capture the flag and mountain mode
Along with that you can summon sub units like zebras and ninjas that are good and every tribe has there own 3 special units with 1 more on the way
Hexonia is a small passion project and every tribe is different in its own way so just be patient with it also the best tribe imo is a free so uhh
