I'm new to diesels. Looking at trading my 2019 1500longhorn for one of theese but probably a 2020. Is their any reason a person can't just change out the pump for a more reliable one?
You don’t really need to, just run fuel injector lubricator a couple times a month, get your diesel from a truck stop since they typically have more filters, and make sure it’s a #2 diesel or 50 cetane rating or higher 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork I'm Canadian I don't think I have much options with grades of diesel. It's hard enough to find high octane Gass. But I'll definitely check the local stations of anywhere it'll be available at the co-op. The lube is nice to know can definitely deal with that
@Mctrician2 you are sooooo wrong. I know this is an old video, but I can pretty much guarantee they didn't up the hp and torque on the standard output because they know that the 68rfe can't take much if any more before they start running into huge issues in stock trucks. They've always had the excuse of "the 68RFE is a fine transmission stock, its only when you add hp and torque that issues occur and stuff breaks." Interesting point about the computer not letting you have the power of you don’t our a load on it. I know they have torque management in the first couple of gears so that you don’t break anything with all that power...just a talking point.
Yup I always felt like it didn’t seem that much quicker off the line than a standard Cummins but when you hit it loaded, the truck takes off a lot stronger!
It is a light tower. For those that think it is for heavy towing, they don’t understand 4-wheeler trailers are not that heavy. Love my 2018 CP3 with 930lbs of torque. 70ft.lbs less is not that bad of a trade off just to not have to deal with a CP4
@@JB_WhoWork 😂 you got me, I’m bleeding, but I got to get two jobs and a paper route before I can tow what you tow lol. I can’t afford to tow much more,
Ford seats shake a bit as well. Can’t feel it but you can see the passenger seat shaking a bit. Thank god they went the cp3. Not sure how the resale will be on the 19 and 20s with the issues they have had???
Good to know, I think Chevy trucks don’t have any wobble and it’s probably in part to that independent front suspension. The CP4 shouldn’t affect resale value as I’m sure it didn’t on the LML trucks. Sure someone could chime in 👍🏾
Now if they can just put a reliable transmission in their diesel trucks, and just have one engine and transmission and not have different levels depending on the model. You’re absolutely right about the power, can’t tell a difference. I felt like my 16 had better performance than the 20. I haven’t driven the 21.
Yea... it’s not as bad as it used to be. Keep in mind it was 30 degrees outside and if tires were warmed up, it probably wouldn’t have been so bad. My 19 is bad due to my aggressive tires though 👍🏾
Price of heavy duty trucks, tire and shock selection has a lot to do with it. I have my 18' 3500 DRW switched to Coopers for the high silica/low rebound and that has helped dramatically with road vibrations; Bilsteins help too since Mopar shocks might at best last 8k miles for ya, mine where shot on a new truck when I swapped them out. If you want comfort, get a Chevy, and outside of their 45-6500, Ram is the only one with air suspension/assist. Yes you can add that, but its nice to push a button to drop my 5th Wheel and keep the legs the same height, makes hookup a breeze.
The new ram 2021’s post 1st quarter lots are cp3 (Thank god). I commented on a previous video you had for the 2020 where I said they may come out with a new fuel pump, but this is even better. The cp3 is tried and true. Glad ram came to their senses
I miss my Cummins. I had a 2016 and at 16k miles the exhaust system clogged up and needed to be replaced. I traded it in for a 2018 2500 Laramie Mega in the Hemi. I love this setup but I miss the diesel. In the 2 years I had it, it only went into regen 1 time. That is a great motor. I’m thinking of getting another.
Great review! I ordered my ram 2500 December 4th, it's scheduled to be built January 21st, can't wait to get it. Glad it has the CP3 and not the cp4. I ended up getting the granite crystal with the night package, the Delmonico red was a close second.
I bought 2020 RAM 2500 Larmie Crew Cab on 12/30. It's been in the shop for 8 days so far in January with check engine light P02999. It only has 1200 miles on it. I love it and hope they can get it figured out.
The numbers you got on the dyno are lower because it's a chassis dyno. Oems advertise power at the flywheel, not the wheels. 1000 tq at the flywheel would only result in 800ish at the wheels (estimate) due to parasitic loss from the drivetrain. Thx for coming to my Ted talk.
Thanks for sharing. If he was able to put my truck under load, it would have been in the high 800HP low 900HP based off of what others were able to get. But I still think the unloaded power is high 600hp low 700hp range to protect the torque converter in the transmission. Appreciate the Ted talk 👍🏾
JB Reviews: I want to thank you for this particular video. I've just gotten email confirming my 2022 Ram 2500 Big Horn, Night Edition is built and ready for shipping. I added several options/packages that brought the final price to 68K dollars. Off road pkg., premium lighting, deluxe buckets, rear view camera, 12" Uconnect, bed utility group, Hemi, 4:10 anti slip rear, 220 alternator, Level C pkg, Crew cab, 4x4, Sun roof, flat black side steps, and the final price included my state of CA taxes, licensing and documentation fees. I did get the Delmonico paint as well after seeing this exact video. If you're in the market for a new truck, try Jim Doran CJDR in McMinnville, Oregon. My factory order was placed on November 17 and is already completed and ready for shipping. I paid cash BTW. My saleslady at Jim Doran CJDR told me that mine is the quickest build the dealership has ever seen.
Thank you so much for the review sir. I am about the purchase this truck after watching. You provided a very detailed walk through. Since I am ordering a truck from the factory, this was very helpful!
i just ordered new 3500 long horn,im trading in my 2012 ,its been great truck but im craving a new one got good deal too, arrive on my birthday may 30, cant wait!! great video!
Great review but as someone that pulls a lot I will say you are wrong about it being best for light towing. I love my 2016 ram but absolutely hate you have to pay more to upgrade to get power matching the others and really hurts ram I think. My 2016 has 160k miles and pulls 15k pounds regularly and on the occasion has been loaded well past legal limits. My truck has performed amazingly with zero breakdowns(except front wheel bearings) and is totally stock, the regular transmission is also a little harsh and much more in its element when towing. More rough than an Allison Chevy going to church but smoother than an Allison with a heavy load. Hell I towed a 45ft 9k lbsgooseneck with a 7k lbs tractor and 11k lbs skid steer 4 hours in southern heat and tranny stayed cool. Most people buy these things for their campers and there is not a camper made that I would not tow across country and no you do not need a duelly
Great video, I’m currently looking at the new Ram to replace my 07 2500 with a Cummins. Pays to do some research, I had no idea the fuel pump was such an issue. Been looking at the lower priced 2020s that are still out there.
I have a 3500 SRW HO Lone-star Mega cab but decide go back to 2500 Limited. I have RV but not towing so much, considering the comfort and some features, I decide back to a 2500. And the one is Red, too! I know Mega will lost some towing capability, so I go with a crew cab.
I’m eager to drive a new HO and see how it is compared to the 19-20. I’ve now owned a 19 and 20 and both have been highly problematic. My older Rams...12, 14, 17, 18 all problem free while I had them. These last two, it’s always something.
Nothing more good looking is that Delmonico red plus that midnight edition package. I would get that in a dually in a second. The 1 thing I don't like about my truck is the soft brakes. They just feel spongey. I've been to the dealership about it and they say the brakes are normal. Great review JB thanks brother 👍.
In comparison yes it's light towing. Plus your payload is going to be just north of 2000lbs on the 2500. So you will be limited if you want to be legal.
Can you help me out with a recommendation. I’m about to pull the trigger on an order for a 2500 mega cab with the 6.4L and rear air suspension. I’ll be using it as a daily driver and a weekend tow vehicle. My max tow weight would be around 14,000 lbs. my dealer is pushing me to get the 3500 with Cummins, but I don’t really want the maintenance or rough ride of a 3500 with diesel. I live in Michigan so no major hills, but plenty of horrible roads. The 2500 with air suspension seems to cover what I need without over spending. Thanks. I really enjoy your channel. 👍🏻
Hey Jeff, I think you should consider a 3500 with a 6.4L, 4.10 rear, and air suspension. Only reason why I say that is because a 14k fifth wheel will most likely have a pin weight around 3000#’s and a 3500 allows you to pick up an additional 1300#’s +/- of payload. The 3500 will ride slightly rougher but you won’t regret it. Your other option is a slightly lighter trailer around 10k and the gas 2500 would be perfect 👍🏾
I did discover that many optional features can be turned on or off with one of those sophisticated scanning devices. So if the scanner can get into the operating computer system they can find a list of options that you may not have paid for like the zoom camera that can be turned on.
I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but three years later the exact same truck is back on the lot in Thurmont (same VIN) and I’m looking HARD at it. It would also be pretty cool to say I own a truck featured in a RUclips video lol!
One of the Best reviews I have seen. I do have a question about the 68rfe transmission. I own a 2017 2500 Laramie 6.7 CC/short bed 4x4 with the 68rfe, Has there been any change at all to this transmission? My truck runs and drives very nicely - I just want to check if the 68rfe has changed. Thanks in Advance.
Hi JB. You don't have to go in the meniu to control your seat heat/ cooled, when you actually start the truck and you put in revers is popping automatically and you can control it.
@@JB_WhoWork Its actually a CP4.2 pump that is the replacement, similar CP4 to the newer Superduties. The CP3 doesn't meet emissions standards. From what I've read is that the CP3 will create higher injection pressure but will have a much higher fuel flow rate to achieve that pressure where the CP4 creates the same pressure at a lower flow(thus lower fuel consumption and lower emissions) Don't get me wrong, I still think the CP3 is a superior pump but not once have I seen Cummins/Dodge TSB of reverting back to CP3... only replacing with the updated symmetrical design pump and reflashing ECM. imgur.com/HUgRO8N
Thanks Mikey! The TRX in army green would be sick in my opinion. Yea once they redesign this truck, I’m gonna jump ship as I’m sure transmission will be updated 👍🏾
Love Delmonico, just bought a 20 3500 Mega with Aisin, have a 18 Crew Cab Delmonico going up for sale after warranty trans swap. Fully agree, the Aisin without a load seems jerky as daily driver
Im in the market for a truck and im doing my research. Im seriously concerned about the fact that its Chrysler and my Chrysler has 3rd transmission and 2nd engine. Any experience with that? I also missed the mpg...
Great review however you are confused about getting all the power in the ho version. That was because the dyno can't put it under load. On the street you are getting all the power all the time regardless of there being a trailer attached or not. That dyno just couldn't measure it.
Nice truck, but I am going back to my roots. I have really been looking at things, and researching and have really had a big change of heart. I have thought this out, and well, Rambo and the 5th wheel have a new home. I am planning an overlander offroad build. Not going to start until I have fully researched because I have been away from the offroad world for so long. I will say this. It's most likely going to be a Gladiator Rubicon. There cat is out of the bag.
@@JB_WhoWork yea just too restricted. I will always love and miss Rambo, but those big rigs are difficult. No drive ins, no good parking, big rig parks only. I want to hit the lakes, and such. More to come man.
I have to say the seat shake is a known issue. Not those Junk Firestones. If you drive it 70 mph there is a wiggle you feel in your butt, also look in rearview mirror. My 17, gas had it 18 Cummins. Thurne sells rear track bar replacement. It did help but but i wouldn’t recommend spending the $ unless you OCD like me. Yes you Can feel it. Trust me.
My 2021 3500 pulls 22670 lbs.any computerized diesel the computer gives just enough power to do the work. 25 percent of the power is held back for lights, heater and air conditioning .
I see alot of hate for the CP4.2, but I've yet to see/hear of one going kaboom that has been maintained properly. The only thing I have heard is that they are a bit noisy and they do not like to be ran dry at all. 19s have been out for awhile and you would think if there was a big issue you would hear a lot more about it.
Longhorn and Limited have the projector headlights that turn with the steering wheel. If you turn your fog lights off, they will turn on individual when you’re turning though. The charging station is standard
On the lane assist, do you need to be traveling at a set speed for it to work? On my Acura I need to be traveling at about 40 mph for it to stay centered in the lane. Below that speed the lane assist does not work.
But the 2500 increased the towing by 1,000lb still without any power increase. Do the BD Diesel valve body upgrade on the 68 and you're better than an Aisin and you can tune the trans as you wish too. The Aisin is not friendly tunable
Why do we need higher hp/tq numbers on these lit duty trucks, any brand for that matter? The medium duty 4500/5500 trucks are detuned for longevity, at least on the Duramax. so why not have a version of these trucks that optimizes for mpg just like they have a version optimized for HO on the RAM? Still going to have plenty of power to haul, most ppl don’t haul at 35k lbs.
Your reviews are so much more explained then some of these other bigger channels that just blow through everything nowadays. Keep it up
Thanks Dalton 👍🏾

Yea... it’s not as bad as it used to be.
Thanks Darius, you called it!
Do it!
@@JB_WhoWork the move was made. I just got this exact setup but in the big horn model. Minus the side step. All the changes they made are amazing.
Great review! I ordered my ram 2500 December 4th, it's scheduled to be built January 21st, can't wait to get it. Glad it has the CP3 and not the cp4. I ended up getting the granite crystal with the night package, the Delmonico red was a close second.
Thanks and congrats on the order! Hopefully it will arrive within a couple of weeks after being built 👍🏾
I just got the same truck. Sitting at the dealer waiting for them to swap the wheels from my 2018 6.4 2500. Can't wait to drive it off!!
I bought 2020 RAM 2500 Larmie Crew Cab on 12/30. It's been in the shop for 8 days so far in January with check engine light P02999. It only has 1200 miles on it. I love it and hope they can get it figured out.
Sorry to hear, keep us updated bro 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork Brand new turbo @ 1200 miles, MAS sensor. We shall see if this is it!
Likely the first and last issue you have! Thanks for the update bro 👍🏾
You did a great job explaining in detail what this truck can do.
You’re in Thurmond MD I’ve driven on those back Roads I’m in Frederick! Great review BTW!
Yup this was done in Thurmont! Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Bro, I swear I went to look at the 2020s today. I may have to pull the trigger, the Night Edition caught my eye. Love the channel, keep it up.
Nice! You can’t beat a blacked out RAM! Thanks brother 👍🏾
Stay away from the CP4.2. Wait for a 2021...
Congrats bro, I’m planning to do a video on a BH night in Delmonico red. Only difference is it has a Cummins 👍🏾
Thank you so much for the review sir. I am about the purchase this truck after watching. You provided a very detailed walk through. Since I am ordering a truck from the factory, this was very helpful!
That’s awesome bro, congrats!!!
i just ordered new 3500 long horn,im trading in my 2012 ,its been great truck but im craving a new one got good deal too, arrive on my birthday may 30, cant wait!! great video!
Congrats and god luck on your new trucks 👍🏾
Thank You!
You can get fuel upgrades for 2019-2020 and not having to worry about it
I have a 3500 SRW HO Lone-star Mega cab but decide go back to 2500 Limited. I have RV but not towing so much, considering the comfort and some features, I decide back to a 2500. And the one is Red, too! I know Mega will lost some towing capability, so I go with a crew cab.
My cp3 in my 2005 performed flawlessly for 400,000 miles . On a stock lift pump and a smarty.
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Oh gad, I might have to trade my 2021 f250 in for this truck!! Really nice!
As always, great review JB! Thanks man, love the information.
Thanks Billy 👍🏾
I’m eager to drive a new HO and see how it is compared to the 19-20. I’ve now owned a 19 and 20 and both have been highly problematic. My older Rams...12, 14, 17, 18 all problem free while I had them. These last two, it’s always something.
Sorry bro, these are first model year trucks but I think once we get through 2021, RAM will be a lot more reliable 👍🏾
Yo Ric I thought about you when I pulled the keys on this! If I find another Delmonico dually night I’m sending it your way 🤝! Thanks brother 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork I'll take buddy 😀👍
I’m loving the channel! Just hit subscribe.
Thank You 🙏🏾
What’s the deal with the plastic cap on the fuel fill? Why not a regular screw on cap?
RAM loves their cap less design. The plastic cap is a throw away
My 2016 2500 had the seat shimmy and now my 2020dually does it as well. Guess that's a RAM trademark. Lol
Lmao!!!! I guess that’s why RAM doesn’t offer massaging chairs 😂😂😂
God thank you Cummins for going back to the CP3. Nobody understood why you would ever run the Cp4
🙌🏾
Cummins. Still one of the best diesel motors made
💯
In comparison yes it's light towing. Plus your payload is going to be just north of 2000lbs on the 2500. So you will be limited if you want to be legal.
Facts!!!!
2021 3500 HO . For 2021 the AISIN has smoother shifiting. Also, I heard the receiver hitch is larger on the 2021, haven't confirmed that yet.
That’s really good news 👍🏾
Thanks for the review man, I am actually eyeing up that exact truck at the moment.
I actually just bought this exact truck tonight.
I did discover that many optional features can be turned on or off with one of those sophisticated scanning devices. So if the scanner can get into the operating computer system they can find a list of options that you may not have paid for like the zoom camera that can be turned on.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but three years later the exact same truck is back on the lot in Thurmont (same VIN) and I’m looking HARD at it. It would also be pretty cool to say I own a truck featured in a RUclips video lol!
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing this!
I’m looking to get a 2500 gas to tow my rv. My must is billet silver with night edition snd offroad package. Best looking ram in my opinion
🔥🔥🔥
One of the Best reviews I have seen. I do have a question about the 68rfe transmission. I own a 2017 2500 Laramie 6.7 CC/short bed 4x4 with the 68rfe, Has there been any change at all to this transmission?
My truck runs and drives very nicely - I just want to check if the 68rfe has changed. Thanks in Advance.
Thanks! They did make changes back in2019 to make it more refined and I think it’s better in terms of how well it shifts and holds gears 👍🏾
I have 2019 2500 HD RAM love it!
Keep doing what you are doing. Honest reviews. Don’t listen to the haters. They are going to hate no matter what.
Thanks brother, I personally don’t really care because it’s only 1 or 2 people making up fake accounts lol
Beautiful truck with all the right features
Always enjoy your videos/reviews... weirdly relaxing
Haha! I’ve heard people falling to sleep to my channel 😂😂. No wonder my ad revenue is making a comeback. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Looking to buy soon for my retirement towing rig. Thanks for all the information you provide v
That’s great! Good luck on your search and thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Also the flat floor thing is a good idea , BUT over the speaker 🤦♂️
Great review my regards and respect to you from Australia.
Thanks Wayne!
Do you like the AISIN or 68rfe better?
Hi JB.
You don't have to go in the meniu to control your seat heat/ cooled, when you actually start the truck and you put in revers is popping automatically and you can control it.
You are correct and thanks for sharing this 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork You're more than welcome.
2021 Ram returning to the CP3
Yup, looks that way 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork They have moved from an asymmetrical design to a symmetrical design but it is still a CP4. CP3 is not coming back
@@titan5535 proof?
You sure? That pump in the 2021 was almost exactly the same as the previous CP3
Great review brah!
Truck does look sick. TRX with that color black out edition 👍🤙
Looking forward to 2022 or 2023 models.
Thanks Mikey! The TRX in army green would be sick in my opinion. Yea once they redesign this truck, I’m gonna jump ship as I’m sure transmission will be updated 👍🏾
Watching all your videos. Love them. Awesome reviews
Thanks 👍🏾
OMG the color 😍
🔥🔥🔥
Love Delmonico, just bought a 20 3500 Mega with Aisin, have a 18 Crew Cab Delmonico going up for sale after warranty trans swap. Fully agree, the Aisin without a load seems jerky as daily driver
Congrats bro! Yea I bought a second trailer and I keep it hooked up 90% of the time now lol...
1500 body on HD will be epic
🔥🔥🔥
Ram should switch to the Ford or GM style mirrors...
Why dosent ram allow the high output in the 2500?
I want this engine in a 1500 just for that beautiful diesel
Why would you want it in a 1500? The 1500 can't haul anything that would justify it.
Im in the market for a truck and im doing my research. Im seriously concerned about the fact that its Chrysler and my Chrysler has 3rd transmission and 2nd engine. Any experience with that?
I also missed the mpg...
Would you use this truck as your every day driver?
Yup especially with rear air, super comfortable 👍🏾
Nooooooooooooooooooo! Rambo is gone??? Man that was fast but can’t wait to see your new build! Keep us posted 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork yea just too restricted. I will always love and miss Rambo, but those big rigs are difficult. No drive ins, no good parking, big rig parks only. I want to hit the lakes, and such. More to come man.
Understandable but at least you had a chance to own one and experience it! Can’t wait to see what you get brother 👍🏾
JB - just curious if you know if the 2021 cab chassis have the "new" CP3 pump? I can't find one on the lot near me and am thinking about ordering one.
I’m not to sure on this one. You can reach out to RAM directly and they should be able to have an answer for you 👍🏾
I have to say the seat shake is a known issue.
Is the digital rearview standard on the laramie or only included in the safety group?
Included in safety
Better in the Granite Crystal or Patriot Blue and Night Edition.
Nah those colors are too boring but to each their own
Color looks really nice
I see alot of hate for the CP4.2, but I've yet to see/hear of one going kaboom that has been maintained properly. The only thing I have heard is that they are a bit noisy and they do not like to be ran dry at all. 19s have been out for awhile and you would think if there was a big issue you would hear a lot more about it.
This is true but there have been some failures and there’s a reason why RAM went back to a CP3..
How would you compare the acceleration between this and the Chevy?
Chevy will take the RAM from a dig. Cummins lags a little off the line but once it gets going, it pulls harder
@@JB_WhoWork So I have a 2018 CC SB 4X4 High Country with the Banks Intake and Exhaust. Are you saying from 40-90 the Cummins is quicker than the L5P?
The l5p is putting down 405 at the wheels and 860 Torque. I would guess I'm at 430/900 at this point...
@@NJDAVE I honestly wouldn’t know how to answer but in time I will try to do a drag race!
thanks for the review...probably getting this truck soon
No problem 👍🏾
Do the Laramie and up trims come with the LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel? I’m assuming that charging station is standard on limited?
Longhorn and Limited have the projector headlights that turn with the steering wheel. If you turn your fog lights off, they will turn on individual when you’re turning though. The charging station is standard
On the lane assist, do you need to be traveling at a set speed for it to work? On my Acura I need to be traveling at about 40 mph for it to stay centered in the lane. Below that speed the lane assist does not work.
I’m not sure as I stayed above 35 mph. I will check it out on a later review 👍🏾
Very very true! The reason is, emissions are driving people away from the diesel so hp/tq are basically bragging rights 👍🏾
Just got my 2022 all black and night edition.
Congrats!
