you could do it at any time. I choose to do it after removing the timing cover because I thought it would be best for removing any debris as it would get flushed out with the old oil. is your timing cover leaking? or are you replacing timing chain?
it has been over 8 months and there are no leaks yet. 😋 The timing cover, oil pan, front main seal and valve cover seals all holding fine. I thought for sure my valve covers would leak as the old gasket was very hard, brittle and I have cracked it slightly in on place. I have bought a replacement right away but still haven't installed it. I think the engines in PIUs are mounted transversely, I think it has a slightly different timing cover design and there might threaded holes in the timing cover where you can screw in bolts to pry off the timing cover. try to search for "ford 3.5 ,3.7 timing chain cover removal tip" video on youtube and see if it applies to you.
yea this is really easy with a Manual car... just put in 5th gear with parking brake on... Not sure how to do this in automatic car... maybe if you use impact drive it's fine not to have the crackshaft locked? if you want to remove the water pump pulley I think it's doable if you leave the belt on the pulley under full tension, before loosening the 4 bolts on the pulley
@@aimless-drifter there is no problem with removing the water pump pulley. and with the crankshaft pulley I will try to unscrew it with an impact wrench, maybe it will work :) greetings from Poland
@@Sauber154 haha have you watched Part 1? I've struggled for a whole day trying to remove crank pulley bolt. I'd recommend warm up the engine before trying the impact wrench. My crack pulley bolt wouldn't come out ether until I've warmed up the engine.
I'd say this is about 4-8 hour job for a Mechanic shop with proper tool. So if your mechanics rate is between $100-$150 this job could cost between $400 and $1200? for labor alone... and a mechanic would probably recommend replacing the valve cover gaskets, pump seals, front main seal, fresh oil and coolant could end costing $300-$500 in parts? I don't know I'm just guess 😅 why? do you have a leak around the timing cover?
yea I thought about and decided that chances of the timing chain failure because of age is lower than chances of valve train failure because of improper installation 😅 if this was Ford 3.5 V6 I would do the chain tho
I guess you're referring to the part around 2:30 yea I could have set up the camera and lights in a better place for that shot. 😅 Also half the time I was struggling to remove water pump pulley, which is not necessary to remove for the timing cover to be removed. 😆 If you want to see more in depth video on how to remove the timing cover I'd recommend searching for "Timing chain job for 3.5 ecoboost F150" it's the same timing cover
should you drain the oil before removing the timing cover?

@@aimless-drifter I have to replace the water pump, which is easy, and I have to replace the crankshaft seal

@@aimless-drifter I know a little english , but i help myself with a self-translator so as not to make a mistake ;)
Did you have any oil leaks after? I am having a hard time removing the timing cover on my 2013 PIU.

I have a question how to lock the pulley to unscrew?

How many miles do you have on the car?
at the time of the recording it had about 120,xxx miles on the odometer (~19x,xxx kms)
How much with it cost to do this?
