    Time for an Arabian adventure with a ‘dune-find’ Ferrari 599 GTB and another episode of #DriveEveryFerrari.
    TheCarGuys head to Dubai to explore the vibrant car scene and drive one of the forgotten Ferraris - often overlooked in favour of the F12 and the 575M. This particular sand-ravaged 599 was rescued from the desert and completely restored by its owner.
    The big question is - what’s the 599 like to drive? How does it compare to the F12. Which would you rather buy? What’s the history of the 2-seater front-engined V12 Ferrari? And what does the Enzo-derived 6 litre V12 sound like at full chat? All these questions and more will be covered in this week’s episode.
    IF YOU HAVE A FERRARI…

    As a former 360 and 430 owner who owns a 599 now, I think the 599 is currently the best value V12 ferrari by far, really underrated. Imagine what you get: enzo engine, 330kmh, the best looks, a great GT. The F12 is probably as superior to the 599 as the 599 is superior to the 575, but right now you can get a 599 for 100-120k€ and and f12 starts at 200-220k€ so I don't really see the point in comparing them. I do see the point in comparing the 550-575 and 599 because they are currently the same price roughly.
    Last comment, maybe the car you tried has not been properly restored suspension wise (geometry, set-up...). My 599 obviously doesn't have a 458 speciale chassis, but IMHO still goes surprisingly well in corners for a big GT. And think about it... the recent 2022 BMW M2 weights 1.750kg... which is more than a 599 :D

    Another great instalment in the series. I think you're absolutely right. The 599 is the bang for buck V12 sleeper in the range (even though unattainable for most mere mortals). What a wonderful thing.

  • @robinyoung7265
    @robinyoung7265 Год назад +5

    I own one as well as a 997.1 GT3. I’m not sure if the one Damian is driving here wasn’t really totally rebuilt to the highest standard and the suspension isn’t the best. But I have to disagree totally about the handling.
    Put my 599 in race mode and it corners extremely well and on the limit it doesn’t feel overly intimidating in the dry. The traction control system works very well, sport gives you some slippage but I do feel it comes in too soon, race let’s the back end slide some more but corrects in a very predictable way.
    As I said I also own a GT3 and I’m amazed what a 599 can do. The engine is a masterpiece. I have also owned a 360CS, 430 and many Porsches.
    For me it’s a keeper and definitely a Ferrari that’s gone under the radar for a long time.
    I think Chris Harris gives a better review of what it’s like to drive, the power and handling. And he owned one for a time.

      I own a 599 as well and there must be something about this build because I agree 100% with you. I had a 430 and 360 before so I’m comparing to those and the handling imho is far better than what Damian describes

      Have a 599 GTB in Dubai and also was quite nice performance on the track. Also purchased the Fiamenghi Headers which would make the car sound as Enzo but still they are in storage, not installed as I am now after a 991.1 GT3 for more track oriented days (never had a 911) . Both are here in similar price range.

    • @simon5066
      @simon5066 Год назад +2

      I’m also 599 GTB owner having formerly owned a Challenge Stradale and numerous Porsches and would agree with most of the comments especially Damien’s experience was definitely tarnished by a poorly set up car (mine was similar when first acquired - very sensible to suspension set up, tyres and pressures) - see JEmm on Cars two review of a poorly set up 599 and a good one - night and day. For me having driven an F12 the 599 is far more analogue and exciting to drive whereas the F12 is no doubt much faster (if you can get the power down?!) but feels almost too good (suspect the 812 even more so) that the supercar experience is numbed. I feel very much the same about the more modern 911 turbos I have owned and recently in fact purchased an old 996 C4s and oddly far prefer the way it drives to all the more modern turbos I owned.

  • @GadgetyMV
    @GadgetyMV Год назад +4

    2:30 I vividly remember seeing the impressively slick functional flying buttress design for the first time at an auto show back in the day. It still makes the 599 stand out. On looks alone I far prefer the 599 to the 550, 575, or the F12.

  • @R-Tap
    @R-Tap Год назад +4

    The 599 was the 1st V12 that I actually noticed from Ferrari. Before that I was always dreaming and thinking of the V8 mid's.
    These days I'm bored by the V8 mid's and can only dream of a front mid V12. I must be getting old, 599 is the one I desire the most.

    • @cherylalbright2086
      @cherylalbright2086 Год назад +1

      No, you're not getting old, you just have taste. Enzo always preferred the front engine V12, and thought of it as a" True Ferrari ". Now that I have had my 599GTB for about 10 months now, still no regrets at all. Sure the F12 is newer, rawer, but I am more than satisfied with my 6L engine. Plus the F12 has a reputation for literally trying to kill you, if you don't respect it. I'd much rather go for the 812, the rear of the F12 looks ugly to me. But for beautiful classic lines, the 599 never disappoints, EVER.

  • @simon5066
    @simon5066 Год назад +7

    Great video and honest review Damien as always although at present the difference in price between comparable F12’s and 599 GTB’s is c.£70k which in the real world doesn’t make these cars truly comparable. Both look great and have amazing engines however one is also definitely a rawer and more exciting driving experience largely due to its older single clutch gearbox and the other is far more digital although engineering wise bar for the steering a superior car (interior will/has date quicker) so the true choice I would say comes down to your driving expectations or preference but also for most simply your budget. Value wise I suspect the F12 has a small margin to fall and the 599 is undervalued (HGTE’s arguably less so - GTB certainly the bargain of the Ferrari world at present) and the gap between the two I would have thought at c.£20-£30k would be more appropriate- neither should ever be sub £100k cars simply due to their performance/looks/name/rarity.

  • @badger748

  • @aed2047

    Great review again! 599 GTO seems to be a masterpiece and this is its canvas. Prefer F12 but this has undeniable character. Wouldn’t buy F12 though because I prefer 812. 599 seems a lot bigger than the later cars though. It’s unusual that only one 2-seat model was produced from the 599 platform - that last happened with 365 GTB Daytona. 365/512 BB, Testarossa/512TR/512M, 550/575, F12/812.

    this is the best ferrari in terms of bang for buck. in additon, this is the last ferrari that can 'theoretically' be converted to a gated manual. you can buy it and have it converted and you have something very special if you add a brilliant or novitec exhaust, with a 599 gto tune. all in for cirica 100k

    This car depends on how well it was set up during it’s rebuild. A friend absolutely swore by his 599 as being much better than his 550. Also Ferrari added a Handling Pack later and for completeness, yourself & all of us, would benefit if you could include one of those in Drive every Ferrari. I’m sure we’d like to know if the Handling Pack made a real difference?
    Many of us haven’t visited Dubai and your advice about speed-slowing humps is very useful! I live in Nottingham where speed humps & overhead averaging speed cameras rule in residential areas, but to put speed-slowing jumps on fast roads is just plain dangerous! I guess locals know where they are.
    Your rundown on V12 history is really useful and the 330 GTC is worth a drive in for it’s nimble track handling!
    Your series is inspiring & I feel I just want to take my Ferrari out for some beans too! Thanks!
