Man I love the format and enthusiasm in this series, keep it up !
512TR is my favourite of the trio with more power than the original Testarossa and better handling according to the motoring press. The 512M is the best in most respects but I'm not a fan of the looks.
512tr all day
Agree totally. And let's just forget about 512M.
That was...um... Let's say experiment...
bingo the og has the best look especially the front grill/nose, it just looks uglier on the 2 follow-up models
That one, if you can change to Monospechio and the old squared seats would be perfect in my opinion. The old seats have more character.
The 512M has a weird looking front-end. I'd still definitely take one if I had the chance.
Great video. Editing brilliant.
Surely the best reference video on the history of the Testarossa .
Well done.
Thank you Damien for all the work you put into this review.
Regards.
Richard.
Thank you very much, Richard 👍🏻
Brilliant reviews. I owned a RHD giallo TR with black carpets!, and later a RHD 512 TR in Giallo. I drove both cars extensively in France and Italy.IMO the 512 was a much superior car to the TR which was a little unstable at high speed.
A big improvement on the TR you didn't mentioned is the front axle suspensions geometry and unsuspended masses, improving the vehicle dynamics.
The M is awful.
I remember in the mid to late 2000s, Testarossas were available in the US starting around $40,000-$50,000. It seems that ship has sailed, unfortunately, and 512 TRs are significantly more expensive--which is a shame, because I'd love to have one! 😆
That 512 TR is just AWESOME! 🤤 Love it! 😍 (Though both examples look superb!) Brilliant vid Damian, you are on top form, Sir! 👍🏻 (I like the old Fischer C-Box cassette holders).😜
Totally agree Mr. Oxley! 🤩
I loved the video, what a fantastic review of this beauty.
Thanks
Had a 512 TR for 5 years. Truly fabulous to drive. Sold because of scary maintenance costs...
I had one too for 5 years, I didn't think the maintenance costs were too bad apart from the engine out belt service. Mine never left me stranded or broke down once and I daily'd it during 8 months a year. Maybe I just got lucky tho. What colour did you have?
I am the proud first owner of a TR , silver with black leather, I am in love with it.
I made over 50000 km in 2 years and touch wood never let me down.
It was my daily driver yess I know ..I was crazy went all over Europe ..;l
Looking at her moves me me still today :-))))
You legend!
@@TheCarGuysTV i made some crazy things yessss :-) like I wrote it was my DD and I got a broken shoulder arm (off road biking) I drove this TR during the winter on snow :-) with just my right arm and changing gear blocking the steering wheel with my leg and changing gears with my only valid arm…you can imagine parking the car with one arm , turning the steering wheel blocking it and turning again….and you know how the steering is light :-)))…(sorry for my basic and bad English) I am a big fan of you and your channel !
I would use mine like that if I didn’t care so much about preserving its value. Wish I didn’t have to care about that, but I do.
Really good comparison of the Testarossa variants from someone who really cares. Please keep producing these videos, Damian.
I’ll try
I would love either of these examples! And great video D!
A great presentation of my favourite car. I drove 800 km in the south of Germany and Austria with the 512 TR back in 2000, and it’s still the best driving experience ever! I will never forget the sound and the feeling. And I never get tired of looking at it either 😍 Thanks for sharing this video.
Might be watching this episode many times, loving the yellow testarossa interior, so cool. It’s one of my dream drives, one day maybe. Always makes me laugh that the main road into Windsor that goes past the great park, is the best kept road in 5he country, I wonder why?
Fabulous episode, Damien. What an iconic Ferrari. I recall being in Monaco in 1992 and watching as 3 Testarossa's came up the hill to park in front of the casino. I was awestruck.
19:40 surely that is a little lamp that you can adjust direction on and not a tiny air vent (lol). Many fiats had that as well.
Lovely episode, 512tr might be the coolest road car ever built! 😁
I love it when you said that fire exstinguisher it's not a detail on these cars. I got a 512 tr ,engine is bullet proof but unfortunately from time to time starter CPU ,injectors, catalysts are failing...so better to stay on the safe side if you see some dark smoke from the exhaust.Neverthless I'll never sell mine. It's really a special car in every respect.
I carry a fire stick in the glovebox of my TR too. 🔥
Awesome review.
512TR is now my favorite (after the 288 GTO).
Funny how you say regarding the dials "I have no idea what these do..." Love it.
I drove a red Testa Rossa spider through different cities in the 80,s. Then i came to realize its was a arcade game called Outrun.
😂😂
Wow, those sound amazing! I’d forgotten just how wide they are too. Great video again, please keep it up. Your enthusiasm for these cars is obvious and you’re a lucky guy to get to ring the beans out of them in the lower gears👍
Best film you've done to date! Your passion for the TRs comes through.
Thanks, Lee
Nice Job on the video! Had both an older 1988 version, sold it, then purchased a 1992 512TR. The difference in performance between the two was significant. The only comment I have on the video is the "nipple" on the overhead. In both my cars, the overhead is not an ac vent, although looks like one, is actually a light. There are (2) overhead lights. the smaller one can be used as a pinpoint light for driver or passenger. Surprisingly, it works well.
Thanks for the info, Spencer - good to know. I’ll address that in the 512M episode.
Just absolutely loving this series. So much passion, knowledge and enthusiasm. Absolute gem of a RUclips channel. High five Damian 🙏
Wow, thank you!
I've seen a lot of reviews on RUclips, but this has got to be, one of the absolute best reviews ever. I want a 512 the seeing this. Excellent job 👍
Thank you, John
Please keep doing videos just like this. Knowledge, passion, humour and honest views not influenced by brands or people which is what we need these days!
Ooooh matron! That 512TR.. oof! Now that’s a noise.. even the F12 can’t match.. epic! Love this series!!
Perfect the 1994 Red Testarrosa 512 TR. Just add nice Alpine or HQ speaker for music and be sure to have a very nice AC and that's all.
Oh my, the noise that TR makes 🥰 Thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome
Another great video Damian, much appreciated. That image of the monspeccia testarossa was the poster that I had on my wall...always preferred it to the Countach, and I still do.
It’s the ‘nipple’ over your head the map light?🤔
That send at the end was the best . . . wowww!
👍🏻👍🏻
best gt supercar ever made with f40 and 288 gto
Ferraris most beautiful car. With its long nose and short tail, just gorgeous
Always wanted a Testarossa since watching Miami Vice back in the 80s. That yellow car would be my pick even with that brown interior. I bet you got some looks the day you filmed this, to see both these cars would be an epic sight.
Wow! The sound of the 512 TR was incredible. I love the shot of both cars in one shot screaming away. This was a brilliant video! Thank you
You're welcome
I owned a 512TR for 5 years and it was the best car I've ever owned. Comfortable, incredible purebred sound (with an exhaust), fast, head turning and 100% reliable! Such a gem wish I still had it. Much better technically than the original Testarossa too. He's right about the snap though, I span it in the wet come off the roundabout outside Gatwick North Terminal 😂
Why did you sell it? I was a day away from selling my 458 earlier this year. I back out the night before. Best decision I ever made.
You can get oversteer snap on most mid engined cars, MR2 is a perfect example
@@adamellistutorials I started a property development business. Any other reason I would have kept it.
@@SpacedOdyssey True but the size of the engine, its power and the sharp nature of the throttle with no TCS makes the 512TR pretty lethal in the wet
Hearing these two made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, fantastic. For me that is the attraction of this generation of super cars, there’s nothing clever going on under the bonnet at all, it’s just pure engine genius. 👍
Best drive every Ferrari yet, it was really interesting to see the differences between them both, such great cars
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wowowwow, fantastic episode! Both of them were so lovely! but that 512 TR with that exhaust, oh my! I'd happily take either 😂
When I hear the word Ferrari, I always think of the 512 TR and the F355. For me, they are the best Ferrari ever and the starting point of my dream garage. I love Testarossa Monospecchio, with one mirror and centerlock wheels. Yes, the first metal model I also had was the Testarossa. Thank you very much for the video! One of those that can be watched several times. So affected, as if I had just stepped out of the car, overwhelmed with emotions. WOW!
Fantastic, thanks for making this video and series. I'm loving this "drive every ferrari" 🤗
Glad you like them!
Awesome video Damien,
My personal favourite for looks has to be the earlier car.
As a child of the 70’s these cars and their main rival the Countach were the poster cars of my generation.
After being lucky enough to have an on track Passenger ride in the Countach QV (at Goodwood) , I realised that the Testarossa was definitely the one for me. The airier cabin and better packaging were very evident once I sat in the Ferrari Testarossa. Oh to think that in the early noughties these cars briefly dropped to only £30k!
Stunning video Damian. Best Drive Every Ferrari so far. Can’t wait to see more. Thank you!
👍🏻👍🏻
This episode is amazing! I love it kinda comparing the different iconic lives of the Testarossa. No matter what, that car is a must have! And as a poster car, it call still go at least on my wall!!! PS, it was and is, still the reason to watch Mami Vice reruns..
Damian, thank you so much for this video! Perhaps the best Testarossa video to date!
Cheers, Fred - I’m glad you enjoyed it
GREAT review! Just subscribed and I bummed that I'm just now finding your channel. Wonderful delivery (without being cheesy) and top notch production. Thanks!
This is an awesome video.
Just Damon’s reaction to the drive by makes it. What a pair of iconic cars. Also that yellow POPS!
It sure does
I just kept winding back to the noise of the cars. Another excellent episode! Love what you chaps do.
👍🏻👍🏻
If the yellow one is the one I think it is then I saw that in 1991 when it was at a hotel I worked in. I was 19 and 100 Ferrari turned up to do a rally to the NEC in Birmingham. I have loads of photos of this one. G reg . Was a fabulous day that stuck in my head even now 30 years later. Unfortunately I’ve not made it enough to afford a Ferrari but one day for sure.
Hey. Read your comments. It’s my yellow Testarossa. I’d love to get a copy of some of those pics if you have them? The car is a G reg. All the best. Rob
@@robrim Hi Rob. Go to my channel and about me you can get me there. Be good to hear from you
Good Lord! That TR sounds magnificent! Great episode sir. Two fabulous cars.
I absolutely love the 512 TR! Great content!
Hi , I have recently bought a 512 tr . Do you have any idea what brand of sports exhaust the tr has ? Does it have standard headers ? Thanks
Great video and love the information graphics. Looks like the you beefed up. Looks good on you.
Wonderful, bellissimo! The Testarossa sparked my passion for cars, after a very kind owner let me sit in his at a Ferrari day Oulton Park in the early 90s. As a young lad, I became a petrolhead! Cheers Damian and the owners of both beautiful cars
Well what can I say…the Testarossa was the first poster in my bedroom, the first scale model I bought (a 1:18 scale Bburago, but I went on to build two 1:8 scale Pocher models as well) and also the first Ferrari I got to experience as a passenger when I was 16 years old. So needless to say this review took me right back to my youth (I too was born in 1972). One of the best vids so far in the Drive Every Ferrari series, Damien. Keep doing what you’re doing!
👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic video!! What a pair of cars! Both sound terrific!
Santa Maria! , Madre dios! , Bellissimo!
Red head royalty!
What a fun episode. They may be wide but they are slick.
Thanks for posting, Damian.
** drums fingers on the desktop waiting for a California Spider**
*Chris Evans has that black beauty...
Brilliant. One of your best so far. Some cars are great. Also, there were no streaming pauses that I seem to get only with your videos. If you tweaked something or uploaded in a super optimised format then keep it going pls.
Thanks, Garin. No different upload, any streaming pauses must be at your end.
Glad it is me and not you.
Wow, just wow. Flat 12 goodness. I won’t say no to either but that 512TR, jeeeeezus wept 😳🥰
Lovely stuff as ever fellas - isn't it odd how hitherto 308/328 were considered 20 yrs ago as quintessential Ferrari and theses two were a bit naff in many people's eyes... and now I'd argue 512bb / and these two are quite the thing...and perhaps even the 348/355 is a bit clichéd/effette by comparison - I was offered a scruffy 40k 512tr in 2017 for £40k - should have pounced - I suspect they will be be more sought after (pricey) than 550/575/599/F12 in years to come !
512TR 1993 5 straight spoke my personal Goldilocks widebody
Special day indeed! And the noises. Wow! The old 250 TR was my first Bburago 1:18 too BTW. Loving this series, thank you
Original Testarossa is my favorite standard production Ferrari! Just screams 80’s coolness! 😍
Another good informative episode Damian, once again, you have knock it out of the park.
Glad you enjoyed it
19:39 That “ventilation nozzle” is a map light. Later in this video It is also referred to erroneously on the TR as a “nipple.” Alfa Romeo Milano (aka “75”) had front window buttons mounted in the ceiling above the gearshift.
YES, I think that the Testarossa is one of the best looking Ferrari EVER, YES I like those brown interiors (really "WOW" on a yellow Ferrari!), YES I look at those yellow animal and I'm thinking that it is so muuuuch better in yellow that in the classic red, or "rosso corsa", amazing color BUT I still prefer the other one because I think in the Testarossa bloodline the first restyling, the 512TR, captures 100% of the Testarossa mood, it evolves the concept to perfection (after many years that you produce a car, you exactly know where you have to put your hands make the car better!) but it adds so much more: the car front is 100% sexy, the car itself is like a well-done tuning of the original car.
I've wanted to see a video on this for years!
Fantastic, awesome cars.Cheers, thouroughly enjoyed this episode of drive every Ferrari.
Glad you enjoyed it
Damian,
Listening to and watching the superb video on those red reads makes me feel as though I am getting a degree a Ferrari degree, for God’s sake! The level of attention to detail and energy you put into these videos is contagious. The analog ‘80’s Ferraris were and still are simply magic.
Thank You for another fun video in this fantastic series!
You're most welcome, Jay
Your enthusiasm for these cars is contagious. Thanks for all of the great content!
👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely love the 512TR but I think it's a very scary car to own maintenance wise
I owned one for 5 years. I left it parked in Gatwick airport overflow parking for 3 weeks once, I drove it fast and slow in all weathers. It never missed a beat!! It was totally reliable and never let me down
@@justsomeguy1141 Did the battery not go flat?
@@adamellistutorials Nope
I might be wrong but I think harry from harry's garage said it's quite easy to live with on the maintenance side
I know someone that owned one for a few years. The larger scheduled items can be a little pricey, but day to day there were no major surprises. Then again, it didn't get driven a whole lot.
Great vid, formidable cars. It's interesting that you said "forget your Carrera GT's" because, at least in video, the 512TR sounds a lot like the GT's V10, although not as high pitched in the upper revs
I love everything about this video
This series is just quality. Well done guys 👍🏻
👍🏻👍🏻
Amazing video, love it!!
What’s the name of the exhaust on the 512 TR by the way?
My favourite Ferrari’s in order are:-
1) 288 GTO
2)512 TR
3)F 355
Brought tears to my eyes...there's a beautiful world out there after all 🙂
Oh My God. My FAVOURITE Ferrari's the sound of both was amazing. Thank you so much Damian. I bloody love this series. Cheers mate
My pleasure!
Thanks Damian! Top episode!
👍🏻👍🏻
I always liked the 512TR appearance better than the original Testarossa. Till, i saw them along side each other. That larger grille looks so much better. I don't like the TR wheels as much. But, i appreciate it is a better car. i would have a 512TR with original Testerossa nose and a single flying mirror on one side. Best of both worlds.
Exactly my thinking
😊
Another entertaining video Damian, with two of my favourite old school Ferraris to boot. Thank you so much for making these videos for us to enjoy ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
amazing episode, thank you for sharing
👍🏻👍🏻
Wonderful as ever..both amazing..keep them coming 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for this great video 👍🏻👍🏻
Loving this series and standard of video top notch as always. Think the 512TR is my favourite so far.
The spec of the original Testarossa is gorgeous and the sound of the TR is unreal ! Such an interesting series to follow.
Whaow Damien, Thank you very much for a super special video. I'm conflicted out over these two machines! The TR looks the more aggressive and effective machine with better resolved design details however, the colour combination of that yellow original just popping and the ever so subtle interior colours is next level. Fantastico!!!
My pleasure!
Such a cool colour combo, very rare indeed. Giallo with Crema was a famous Bburago 1:18 cast model combination which I thought was quite weird back in the day, but today I love it. Very Zeitgeist & classic
A class review of two icons, a great education too so thanks. What a sound from the 512! Brilliant channel & love your videos. I am just waiting for the F50... There is a video on Mr JW's channel of an F50 with a straight pipe. I don't think that sound will ever be beaten....
Going 10km/h even while sitting still! I've always loved the Testarossa and glad to report I'm beginning to see them again in Korea nowdays of all places.
Nice little slice of automotive pornography! I have to admit that I hated the Testarossa when it first appeared as I was such a big fan of the later 512 Boxers. However, my first drive of a 12 cylinder Ferrari was actually the F512M which was 'interesting' after my little 328GTB. I agree with you that the 512TR is the sweet-spot in the Testarossa range. They've all entered the 'unobtanium' market now for me so I'm slumming it in a 456GTM (haha). Had to have a V12 Ferrari before I shuffled off this mortal coil. Just spent a week up in sunny Lincolnshire in it with the wife and pooch and it performed faultlessly (the car...). Even managed to squeeze almost 20mpg out of it (gasp!). BTW, as a bit of a watch nerd I couldn't help noticing the glint of a gold Submariner on the wrist. Cheers from a rather muggy Otford, Kent.
This channel should be well over a millions subs superb as always sir 👍
👍🏻👍🏻
Testarossa was my childhood poster car. I was fortunate enough to get to drive one that had a Tubi exhaust. The gated shifter, the flat 12 behind your head, it was great. It is definitely a product of its time, but still holds up well today IMO.
Pretty funny to me that your impressions match my own almost to a T. Steering wheel is kinda awkward, it's not particularly fast, but its still amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Stunning vid!
I like the way you don't curb your enthusiasm........prettttttty good :-)
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for showcasing these two side by side. As much as I can appreciate that the 512tr is a better driving car there is something still about the original Testarossa that I just still cant get past. My obsession with Ferrari’s started with this car, yes I love it more than the F40, and hope to get one in my garage soon. Thank you again for this episode, I truly enjoyed it
Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
Good review Damien! I’m surprised you hadn’t been in one till now!
I’m very happy I sold my 550 for my Testarossa! Was the right decision.
You should get one too!
Cheers
Jason #jcr_cars
Testarossa, Testarossi? Really enjoyed the vid, thank you :-)
Weekend drink in hand now sit back for a lump of nostalgia the 512 TR is my pick out of these 2
this video is a masterpiece, thank you Damian!
Cheers, Vossi
Great video and empathetic proof older and slower cars are just much more fun and useable in the real world.
1st bburago model I had too 👍👌 love that car
Loved the sound!
I would take one of these over the Ferrari SF90 Stradale any day.
