Same as the Doug Demuro tax in the States. RUclipsrs are like "why no cheap cars? Also, everyone should buy this car, but there's only 4000 for the whole world. Good luck!"
@@tbh1444 Ive come to hate Demuro in recent years because of this. But many other youtubers do this as well. Another thing I've noticed with car youtubers is, they dont really showcase them without heavy modifications or use them much once they buy them. They just make a quick intro video to them, shove them in a garage or shop, and just modify them every few videos. Then sell them. Or they talk them up to be a new collectable and why "YOU NEED TO BUY THESE NOW" ad then begin pumping up the markets. Its honestly becoming a serious issue for people who cant rush out and spent 10s of thousands every few months on random, unnoticed or unloved cars. We're seriously loosing our hobby and enjoyment. One of the channels I enjoy a lot now is Harry's Garage. He has videos and does series where he takes his personal classic and modern cars(Including some very pricey exotics) on long ass roadtrips around Europe. or he does a Jay Lenos Garage style format with cars. So many car RUclipsrs only film their cars being driven for short periods of time around where they live or just to make an easy video, But never to give watchers a feel for what the cars are like or what they look like in the real world in public. The reasoning why is that driving and roadtrip videos don't pull in views like modification or Modified car reviews do. So they just relegate cars to being couped up, modified, sold and then buy another crowd pleaser. Rinse and repeat.
I love how so many car youtubers or Car experts talk about the 20-30 year depreciation curve for many cool cars, and especially luxury/exotic cars, Saying that this allows for people who arent insanely rich, But make pretty good money a chance to buy them used. Yet then are complicit in being part of destroying the depreciation curve of modern future classics along with Investors and guys trying to find the next market to try and skyrocket. Because from where I see it, The Depreciation curve that has existed for decades before things recoverd from the Great recession is has basically disappeared. This was even a thing before the Covid shortages(Which I think was the final nail in the coffin). Now all you can do is hope a car you want that isnt an exotic or some youtube icon stays unnoticed just long enough for you to possibly buy it and enjoy before youtubers, auctions and investors find it.
Love the flying buttress. Have driven my for now 4 years and I am very happy about it. Love the looks and love that it doesn’t look old compared to F12 or 812. Drive mostly in Germany when I am at home (don’t live there) and it is always a joy. Don’t think the stock exhaust is boring but rather exciting in its high pitch. Not cheap to maintain but I have a SL 600 (V12) at m home in US and that’s an expensive car as well. Once I am permanently back to Germany I may switch to 812 just to have a more modern car but still undecided. It feels amazing to drive a Ferrari.
I’ve been lucky enough to have had 4 Ferraris. I’ve had the 599 for 13 years and I’m unlikely to ever sell it. Covered over 40K miles mostly long journeys in Europe. Maintenance costs have been excellent and way less than the 355 and a lot of other "ordinary" cars. Only problems I have had relate not using it over winter ie sticking brake pistons; so now make sure it gets a run every couple of weeks when the weather allows. Think of it as a hugely comfortable, capable GT and you won’t go too wrong. F12 and 812 just aren’t as comfortable and have too sharp steering. Great review though and wouldn’t argue with anything other than comments on the rear view. It was the rear view that sold it to me when the covers came off on the launch night. Buy one! But not mine 😂
@@Fee.1 between £80k and £120k. Annual service history plus all paper receipts is essential. Wouldn’t go for ultra low mileage. Check when clutch was last done etc.
The 599 is one of those cars which has aged pretty well for me. I initially really didn't like the looks, but they really have grown on me quite a bit. Also I always keep forgetting how powerful these things are especially within the time period when they were released.
I've always thought the 599 looks fabulous, including its rear end. I'll never forget one passing me on the French Autoroute at highly illegal speeds. Awesome.
As someone who's been lucky enough to own a number of Ferraris and to have driven about 20 different models or so, the only one I haven't connected with was my friend's 599 HGTC. Seating position is too high, and for a 2 seater V12 you're just not that connected with it. Stonking, beautiful engine. Hugely capable. But ultimately a bit "meh" for me. Hard to know why. When I got back in, I bought a 550. That model always connects with me when I drive it and even after 75,000kms and 15 years of 550 ownership it still makes me smile. So nothing against the 599 (except humongous bills when the F1 gearbox rams in a gear and the synchros happen to be a bit off), it is just not quite the car for me. But of course at current prices it is a bargain and I wouldn't recommend against buying it. Just be aware of the gearbox issues. A lot of rebuilds happen and 25k bills are not unheard of.
Spend £100,000 on the 599 then allow another £25,000 on the transmission and it’s still less than half the price of a 599 in Australia. To me it’s a half price bargain.
Interested to know what those 20 cars you are comparing it with. I own one and I compared it with a 599 GTB, FF and Gt4 Lusso. The 599 HGTE I have actually excited me much more than those other cars I tested. Very poweful, raw, agile even considering it’s weight, and with a mechanical feel. I feel like more modern cars take that rawness away and older cars are not that powerful enough. The HGTE for me represents the sweet spot
@@EduardoA775 haven’t driven the other ones you mentioned. At the time of the HGTE test drive my UK friend and I swapped with my 458 in Eastern Germany for several hours. I really disagree with you that older cars are not powerful enough. When I had my 330GTC for a couple of days I joined my friends in the Swiss Alps. I had to learn to adapt my driving style but soon I had no trouble keeping up with my friends in modern machinery on the passes. For all conceivable practical road uses, 300bhp in a 1200 kg car is fine. In the MM Tributo I had this 1966 car at 135mph and drove it on the Imola and Fiorano tracks, lots of fun. Similarly my 365BB was a joy. Others I have driven are 330GT2+2, F12, F40, 308GT4, 308GTB, 328GTB, 328GTS, 458 Speciale, Mondial T, 512BB, F430, F430 Scuderia, 360 Modena, F355 GTS, 512BB, and a regular 599. In conclusion I would never describe a 599 as raw, unless it was a GTO. The contrast with my 458 was stark, and that was not even a Speciale. I did a swap with a regular 599 with a French friend and he agreed with that view. I am very happy you are happy with your car, and I don’t mean to offend at all. What I absolutely love about Ferrari is that all those models are very different to drive and each has a distinct personality. It takes time to pick your favourite (if you even have to). At the moment I am concentrating on building my pension and so I feel I should only have one; for me the jack-of-all-trades is the 550 Maranello. FWIW my UK friend sold his 599 and owns a 458 Spider now. Continue to enjoy your 599, and keep driving different models - who knows what you might find, all the best from Holland.
As a 25 year old I grew up with this car being the Ferrari pinnacle and I would love to one day be able to just drive one for an hour. Not the prettiest but to me it is timeless elegance.
I can totally resonate with your statement, as a now 50 year old I lusted after at your age ( when I was 25) the 550 Maranello, and now I own one. It really is a generation thing. I've always thought the 599 is under appreciated, but like you say for those on their mid twenties it will always be the Ferrari range topping V12 that they grew up with, qnd with that in mind, nothing else will do. I hope you achieve your dream of owning one.
I drove the 599 V12 GTB on two occasions, in Maranello. Both just 10 minutes rides, with a co-driver, it was really some great experience. These short time rentals does it for me, also very accessible and feaseble on a small budget.
I've had my 575 for 8 years now and still love it. Sure, every year I consider changing up to a 599...initially I wasn't a fan of its design but I've come around. But I've heard stories about early cars wiring issues so that's a concern. And whilst it has the Enzo engine I just don't need more horses..515hp in the 575M is more than enough. There's no unlimited autobahns in Oz. Then there's the fact that 599s have jumped at least A$100k in the last year here. I still prefer the looks of the Maranello. It's a true classic with its 250/275/365 design elements. Who doesn't love twin rear lights. They only built just over 2,000 of the 575M, so its the rarest of all the modern V12s, other than the specials. And the F1 box is great once you get to know how to drive it. It's definitely not slow in manual mode. Yes, I've had to change the F1 pump and fit a new clutch, at 58,000 kms! And I've just put the car through the premium service at considerable cost. But I plan on keeping it until they won't let me drive anymore. Great review James, as always.
I always loved these because it looks like a bigger, badder 90's-era Japanese sports car and I love the general styling cues of those cars. And It just has a look and layout (aside from the tech) that suggests Ferrari actually wants you to daily the car. Which I like. I'm not in a position to own or really even drive Ferraris, I've only sat in a few at an Italian festival and been around tracks in a couple. So I can't speak from any real experience with the car. But aesthetically, it's one of my favorite ferraris
I've always thought the 599 was an incredible car. I prefer the looks to a Maranello or an F12 (I must be odd?) and that Enzo derived engine? Need I say more? Fabulous....
this is actually my dream supercar, throw a pair of Brilliant 6-1 headers on there, do the manual swap with that new kit that just came out, and it cannot be beat at any price for sound and driving experience
I'm 193cm and am able to fit in a 599; wasn't an issue when I was in it for the best part of an hour. I also daily a Fiesta. Mind you I also squeezed myself into a Suzuki Cappuccino so take what I say about fitting in cars with a grain of salt.
Being able to see a lot of the bonnet or hood as we call it in America is something I really appreciate because it I love being able to tell where the front of my car is. I currently drive a 2014 Volkswagen beetle. I love that car and it kicks ass when you put it in a sport mode and I know exactly where the front of my car is whenever I drive it and I can see enough of the bonnet/hood to make me feel comfortable, knowing exactly where the front of my car is. I really do appreciate that. That being said I do prefer to drive left hand drive cars because I am American and 99% of American cars are left hand drive but I do understand everything that was said about preferring the right hand drive in this video because this is a man from the UK and roast UK cars are right hand drive. I’m also not saying that I wouldn’t be opposed to a right hand drive car because I would love to try that but I would just personally my preference as an American preferred left hand drive. The Ferrari 599 has always been one of my favorite Ferraris ever and given the right opportunities in my life I would love to own one or at least drive one one day.
While i think the trunk area looks pretty weird i love the single tail lights. They look great imo. Growing up in the early 2000’s this was one of my favorites. I loved how the gto and xx could be optioned with the black contrast tops. Looks way better that way
I was just in the gym talking with my friend about his ferraris (488 & F12) and how we both like the 599, and he was saying the 599 is a great investment. Then I come home and see this video! I would love to find a 599 or 612 with a gated manual
As far as I know, there is only one RHD 612 manual in existence, or so it was claimed when I saw it at a show a few years back. I have to say, the 612 looked much, much better in the flesh, so to speak. It was dark blue, which I think helped.
@@paulthomson9014 i know right! I've got angry at this so many times. And they dont put a photo of the interior showing the gearbox until 20 photos of the bloody alloys
@@chrisogrady28 yeh , if I see a car advertised as a manual I expect to see a manual gearbox . The advertisements both say manual . And only when you finally.get to an interior pic it shows the f1 box .
I absolutely agree and i would like to mention that although the design of berlineta has it's issues, it's really amazing how the GTO is one of the best looking Ferraris although it's actually the same car.
Back in 2007 I was lucky enough to have a 2 day Ferrari driving experience at Fiorano. I drove many laps in 430s and 599s, both with my instructor, a World Rally runner up, and by myself. The 430 was fast, but there was a pause in up shifts, not noticeable in the quite magnificent 599. Every time I drove either car, I was given a computer readout of my performance. The main difference between a race driver and someone like me, was the lateness of braking, and the brakes, in the 599, were superb. And as for that v12 engine….
Personally, I'd get a 599, no question about it. The design, the rarity, the v12... So much that differentiates this from the other 2 which mind you, are amazing cars. Since you can afford to choose, do whatever you feel like. enjoy
Another great review James 😁👍👍 I wish I had access to the UK car market. In Australia there are currently 3 Ferrari 599 Fiorano for sale, all are over $500,000!!! (£260,000) You guys in the UK are very fortunate. Thanks again 😁👍👍
I put this on in the shop this morning.. then a customer came so I’ve only just sat down to watch this properly. This has always been my favourite modern Ferrari. And now after watching this I’m certain it’s the one for me… if I can afford one before they skyrocket one day!
They have to be driven like a manual. In an age of numb, push-button, instant-gratification luxo boxes, it's a welcome thing to have a car that requires some thought and provides physical feedback to let you know when you mess up.
It was the first Ferrari I ever drove (pre-owned from a Ferrari dealership 18kOTC) and it STILL holds a massive place in my heart. The market since then (2015) has crashed on the 599GTB. I cannot put it into words how much I love this machine. I do however share your views on the rear, to me, it gives Ferrari California of which I cannot stand.. I do completely agree with you too on the gearbox, it's about learning how to drive it. It's a grand tourer, and very comfortable for long journeys in my opinion. Devon to Gibraltar was an absolute breeze on my back, arse and right leg. I love it.
He's not lying about it eating a V12 vantage for breakfast. I was lucky enough to drive both when they were current cars. The V12 vantage honestly just felt a bit heavy and more of a GT. The 599 felt like an animal in comparison. I know things have moved on but I'd love to have the opportunity to spend a bit more time in a 599.
The styling has always being talked about, but I've always found it stunning, planted and a reasonable evolution from the 612. I honestly think the 812 has a less beautiful desing, yet more striking.
@@robertcomella8486 Its absolutely wearing its years like good wine does. The interior is truly frozen in time, which the aroma won't be able to say in 2023.
@@comeberza I had a 09 599 and it was incredible....I now have and FF and absolutely love it but I want to add another 599 to my stable...it's that good and to me looks way better that the f12 and 812....it's so unique...I also am a fan of the 612 in the right spec
The problem with GTB's rear end is that there is nothing to break the vastness of the rear bumper sides. In GTO they add air outlet vents and that looks way, way better than the GTB. The rest of it, however, is just right. EDIT: The spec is also oh so delicious. Nero Daytona over Nero/Crema is just tasteful.
Was never that fussed when they came out (as if I could afford one..) but as time passes and havong seen ones in person... They do look the business. Love a big GT
Ive seen a few in person and a few GTO's. They have never failed at impressing me style wise. these have always looked great ever since I was a Teen back in the late 2000s. I wouldnt mind having a go at one some day in the future. But with the way the car world is now and the fact that the 20-30 year depreciation curve has pretty much disappeared(not thanks entirely to Covid. Covid just was final nail in that coffin), I doubt I'll ever get a chance to experience one of these or a Murcie. By the time I get finish the degree I want(Which would pay north of 200k a year), These and many others will probably be well out of reach and a thing for billionaires or the upper echelon of Multi millionaires.
Here in Australia these have gone up in value astronomically, used to be able to pick up one with about 16xxxkms for about AUD350k but now you'd be lucky to find one under the magic AUD500k which is F12 money. Personally would have an f12 over the 599 even if I'm a big 599 fan. Another great review 👍
Just a year ago they were AUD $250k The problem here is the market is so small, a couple of muppets list at $500 so everyone else follows. No way it’s value at that price.
The 599 gto was just ferrari perfection in my honest opinion. It was the sweet spot in tech age, usability and given its rarity would look after your bank balance and not to forget only a real ferrari has a v12 "Enzo"
Also, the GTO is nowhere near as expensive as F12tdf. And arguably a better-looking thing. And it sounds better in my opinion. F12tdf is a little too smooth, GTO sounds like two BMW S54 having a bit of a row.
@@AntoniusTyas I would agree there is a hint of the frantic s54 about it and being fortunate enough to have a e46 m3 with carbon airbox in my collection I always likened it to an mc f1... Obviously not as aggressive but nor have I been driven in one I'd hasten to add relying on good video quality!
@@comeberza I think you might not be getting the thread of the conversation and I can only go on £'s here in respect to ownership reward return values. If you bought a gto when new they were £300k. The owner could of put 4-5k miles on it and it would still command £900k today reverting back to the points made in the original post. Arguably the word bargain and ferrari rarely coincide in the same sentence especially when pure ICE examples are no longer being built.
I love the 599's style- my only critique is the front fascia is a bit plain, but that's fine, throw a Sasaki Brilliant headers & exhaust on there and let the engine do the talking
I have one of these. It’s a excellent car with great long distance comfort yet perfectly nimble on the twistier roads. I never understood why the car wasn’t more popular, but I am sure it will be soon as you’ve also found out. I won’t sell this car, it’s a keeper and since I only do 2km each summer in it, it’s just fine for what I need. Forget the back box exhaust mod, the sound deadening is in the redundant central cats. A 1h job to switch out for fabspeed decat pipes, more raspy sound and around 20 bhp more power. Typical problems are weeping cam cover rubber seals, shocks (you can get them rebuilt for 500 euros per corner in poland) and ball joints. Factor that in when buying, the rest is bulletproof.
Hello....fine job on the review. SPOT ON.... I've had my 2007 gtb for over 6 years now and could not recommend anything better to anyone for the money. Mine is red....which is too flashy for my tastes...and I've put close to 50000 miles on the car.... I replace both cheap plastic fuel pumps...one failed...so I replaced both.... two front shocks were replaced...and a fresh clutch just installed although I had a fair amount of clutch life left I was heading for a 5 day long high speed charity rally. The only time it has failed to proceed turned out to be a solution in the f1 gearbox... $400 all in parts and labor. Find a good honest independent mechanic... and these will run you similar to any v8 Mercedes or BMW in running costs....
I’ve been lucky to own in order 16M Suderia / 458 / 599 , Living in LA I daily drive all 3 approx 12 months each . The 16M was epic The 458 was good The 599 didn’t do it for me . All beautifully made .
@@danielthomas8507 unfortunately not as it was my number 1 in my top 3 drivers cars I’ve owned and now they have of course gone up in value . I believe the 430 scuderia and the 16M ate future classics
Excellent review as always, JM. I, even more than you, want the best, but also want a screaming bargain. Such are not attainable in 2022, I may have to wait 2 years before I add to my collection.
had one for a couple of years. agree with most points JM. main reason I sold it, was endless stopping to fill up & not an easy car to handle when giving it some real welly. good value. really enjoyed owning it
And now like the FF these will start to rise in the U.K., your videos have a canny knack of spotting these bargains and exposing them to a greater audience
I must be old, but I have always thought exposed carbon fibre has a whiff of cheapness about it. I just can't get excited by carbon weave, and exposed carbon fibre, in bicycle world they have a term "steel is real" and I think an element of this applies to cars as well. Give me leather and brushed titanium over carbon any day of the week.
Perhaps it may be a generational difference but I quite like exposed carbon. Granted, growing up in the 2000s, it was kinda the period when carbon fiber was starting to become far more common in exotics. there are high quality weaves and lower quality ones most definitely. The carbon fiber trim pieces in a mustang doesn't hold a candle to something like a Pagani where the whole body has a visible weave. The craftsmanship is really something to behold (although of course this is to be expected as I presume pagani's reputation is built on it's craftsmanship). It really depends on the manufacturing processes used. Especially in 90s and 2000s cars, before the process was really refined to be far more efficient by Toyota while developing the LFA, you can tell how much work went into creating some of these carbon fiber pieces. And of course I think theres something cool about the fact that we have managed to engineer materials that are simultaneously as strong and as light as carbon fiber with little detractors aside from manufacturing cost. I also think it's just intriguing to look at. Like art, you can stare at a carbon fiber weave or forged carbon for hours, noticing small details or variations that are unique to that piece. Of course, in the bike world I'd assume practicality tends to be an important factor. Exotic cars however are impractical as can be by nature. They're the perfect for showcasing the latest, most cutting edge technology available.
In reality, we only have carbon fiber bikes nowadays. From road to mountain bikes - all carbon. Steel is out, aluminum is there for entry level options, titanium for exotics. I do remember the first CF bikes which showed the weaving, but that’s long gone now and paint is covering it all.
@@wolfiestreet6899 interesting. Take a look online at the price of steel road bikes, steel has made a comeback. Aluminium is for middle priced bikes. A lot of leisure cyclists with money to spend (think dentists on bikes, weekend warriors) have returned to steel and also titanium. Aluminium is for mass produced Chinese bikes (no longer for high end bikes), and carbon while at the very top end of the market the best bike material (pros only now ride carbon). If you are a weekend warrior do you really need a pinarello dogma?. (Another saying in the bike world is "all the gear, but no idea).
I’m skeptical on this price estimate here even accounting for this video being 8 months old. The cheapest example in my area is about $125k with the best examples well north of 200k
Always hated the looks, but God help me, they're starting to grow on me! I guess the 812 is to blame for that. And it's never going to be dainty/lithe/svelte, like the older cars, but then again maybe the size and boot space makes more sense for a GT, which needs to be comfortable.
Another excellent video, some of those PTCs were long (how did you remember all those lines?!), impressive delivery James and you make me want to buy one. If only I could!
One of the most beautiful front engine GT’s ever made in my opinion. On top of it, it is aging beautifully. I’d expect prices to rise if they haven’t already.
I actually favor the styling of the 599GTB - one of my favorite Ferrari GT body styles. Also, seems like these cars must be a lot cheaper in the UK than in the states - they generally go for $160k-200k USD here. Might be worth importing one if you can pick one up for around $100k pounds.
Sat here watching this, (not in a position yet to buy a car like this but give me another 5-10 years and fate permitting I may be) And I’m thinking Jay would be a fantastic consultant on which car to buy from the classifieds, I understand you’d need a mechanical inspection but his knowledge of the options, and what can be fitted later etc is mighty impressive 😀
Man, I'll give you 3 years tops. Find a way and make it happen. You get what you think you deserve and can get. Ecom is the best path in my opinion. Good luck
612 Scaglietti has the same designer as Your Quattroporte - Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina. 599 was designed by Jason Castriota at Pininfarina, he also designed the GranTurismo.
My fave car since new, and I think it being ECOTY winner 2006 says a lot of its capabilities! Don’t spoil the secret for those of us on the cusp of affording one James 😉
I'm sorry but in my opinion the 599 GTB Fiorano is the most beautiful modern two seater front engine Ferrari, just behind the 275 GTB, 250 California and 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta, from 3rd to 1st.
You compare it to a DB9 and a V12 Vantage. DB9s start at 30 grand, V12 Vantages start around 70k. Is it the rarity and specialness that makes the 599 a bargain at 90k, or are there other things as well?
The DB9 was made in great quantities (by Aston standards) for a long time, and I think the Vantage really was the one people wanted to buy second hand. The 599 is considerably rarer, faster and two seats. It also has a horse on the front which will always add value. The DBS is perhaps a better point of comparison maybe, or the Vanquish
Disagree on the looks, this is the best looking ferrari since the 80s imo. It's stunning in grey/silver, perfect balance between athletic and classy while still looking exotic. Not a fan of the rest of the modern ones, especially not sf90, 812, 430.
Thank you so much for doing this video, James. I was just revisiting Chris Harris' 599 video and realised it's been almost 10 years, wow. Having already covered most of what's out there in terms of 599 info I'm amazed at how much I learned from this one. One question comes to mind regarding the Scuderia fender badges. Do you know wether they're fully removable or not? Do badged cars have different fenders with indents for the badges?
Funnily enough, don’t think I have ever looked at one off these before, but today, it’s a great looking car and idle for the summer jolly drive down to Spain with the boys. Don’t think it would do any harm to do a manual box conversation
You are the first to mention a manual conversion. There is a shop near me that does these (with all fsrrari parts) for 40,000 usd and you get you f1 box back if the next buyer wants it
Long long ago, in a time when I had some serious wonga; I had the use of a Ferarri 308GTB; to be honest, and much as I love these cars for their looks and noise - it put me off owning one for life! Mainly when the seller showed me the history and I realised how much had been spent just keeping it on the road. I imported a 1989 Nissan R32 GTR full race Skyline instead. I ran that car for two years with no problems; only selling for two reasons. 1. Although I never actually got a ticket; it really was a damn close thing....and 2. The sheer thickness of the ead of cash I was offered. (I won't say how much, but it was more than 5 times what I'd paid for it; and that made my eyes water!). Now that I'm old and comparitively poor; I own a very rapid 2006 Lexus GS300 SE-L, it's been looked after all its life by Lexus, they even did a high performance job on it for me. I'm about to take it off the road and just use it for track-days and speed trials; I'll replace it with an LS460 SE-L Executive. I just love a Lexus.
A wonderful Ferrari V12 that is exclusive and rare. I've never driven one, but I suppose a trip to the Cote d'Azur would be an unforgettable experience.
I rarely disagree with you as I see you as fair and reasonable but calling the 599 anything else but beautiful. I wasn't a fan of the 456 or the 612 but time has been kind to them. I was a big fan of the 550 and the later 575 just made it even better where I didn't think there was room for improvement aesthetically.
No matter how Clarkson humbled 599 in TopGear since then through the years it seems to be by experience one of the last gentlemens' Ferrs GTs with balanced character where speed wasn't superior to everything else....because all the following ones are stupidly fast as tested but hardly enjoyable to use every day due to computers replacing mechanical feedback of driving a machine and not computerized jet fighter w/o wings like they feel nowadays....
I love Clarkson but in that case he reviewed the 599 with the wrong angle... He tested it like he would test a 430 scuderia. On the track, expecting it to be the new track killer. But it was never supposed to be that. It was supposed to be a elegant GT with a confrotable suspension but still very capable and with a crazy powerplant. It's an amazing car
I’ve always wanted a 599 and will look to pick one up in the next year or so. It has a great engine and classic Ferrari looks. The newer cars don’t do it for me.
You should do a video that’s a list of cars that you can buy and won’t lose money or will appreciate. Performance cars obviously and maybe some that normal people can buy, first on my list might be an e92 m3. Would like to hear your thoughts
Hi Jay, I still have this on my list of cars with great value. I think this is the perfect under 100k Ferrari. Maybe you should make a special and tell us which Ferrari under 100k. I am hihi this, or repurchase another California T or go classic with a 328 for example.
This is one car, where when they first came out I didn't like them, but over the past few years I'm starting to like them more and more. It's mostly the front headlights I'm not keen on. But overall a very honest grand tourer, unlike other grand tourers that attempt to be a Swiss army knife and claim to be able to do everything (which just makes them compromised on long motorway drives). This is also a Ferrari, that imo surprisingly doesn't look good in red, because almost all Ferrari's look good in red, but not these imo.
Whenever I set my eyes on a "hidden" gem, Jay goes and explains to the world how good it is. Not cool, man, not cool.
That's what I just thought...
Same as the Doug Demuro tax in the States. RUclipsrs are like "why no cheap cars? Also, everyone should buy this car, but there's only 4000 for the whole world. Good luck!"
Totally 😎
I have always liked how it looked. The flying buttress wins for me.
Same, only modern ferrari i like
Same here
I agree it’s not a beautiful looking Ferrari but it has a nice presence
Agreed, gives it alot of personality in my eyes.
A fine looking Ferrari from every angle. Especially the uncomplicated rear view.
The 2000's were Ferrari's best decade, around 2012 every Ferrari became over styled and too electronic
Feels like a lie. You quoted in miles while stating you are in Europe
What do they go for currently
@@Fee.1 between £80k and £120k. Annual service history plus all paper receipts is essential. Wouldn’t go for ultra low mileage. Check when clutch was last done etc.
The 599 is one of those cars which has aged pretty well for me. I initially really didn't like the looks, but they really have grown on me quite a bit. Also I always keep forgetting how powerful these things are especially within the time period when they were released.
I feel the same. That interior is beautiful and much-much better than their new ones.
The 2000s design language has aged very well. Much better than the 2010s, which is already looking ugly to me.
Have to agree. 599 and 456 are understated with excellent proportions.
I've always thought the 599 looks fabulous, including its rear end. I'll never forget one passing me on the French Autoroute at highly illegal speeds. Awesome.
I prefer this over the f12 somehow , the 812 I don't like anything about , I think it looks a total mess . But the 599 is just stunning to me .
But it looks soo good :)
@@xkimopye lol thats still great price. Here in turkey (a 3rd world hellhole) a 599 costs 275000£ and minimum wage is around 192£
IMO I think this is one of the most beautiful Ferraris out there still. Absolutely stunning and different
As a 25 year old I grew up with this car being the Ferrari pinnacle and I would love to one day be able to just drive one for an hour. Not the prettiest but to me it is timeless elegance.
same here at 25 haha.
The small head and taillights are also what make it so timeless. LOVE the 599.
look at how big the 812 headlights are..
😖that's not going to age well (even now I don't like those big lights)
@@jortepap I feel the same about the 812. I think it was born old, hasn’t aged well at all even though it’s still in production. The 599, though…
Some cars are pretty, some are beautiful. This is handsome.
being a teenager during the 2000s, this thing was one of the rare Ferraris that I was very much into(The F430 being the other).
I think the 599 is great looking from the back
I drove the 599 V12 GTB on two occasions, in Maranello.
Keep your 575 mate! God bless you
That was the vehicle that did 1.7mpg in Top Gear’s 1 gallon race.
Glorious badge of honor
I wonder the 812 would do in that test. Maybe 1.2 mpg?
@@christiantava442 Maybe it would stop at the Hammerhead! 😅

After living with a 599 for a year, I can say it's a very accurate review James. Well done.
Say no more. Just fabulous.
this is actually my dream supercar, throw a pair of Brilliant 6-1 headers on there, do the manual swap with that new kit that just came out, and it cannot be beat at any price for sound and driving experience
Love your videos, James. Just keep them coming
I'm 193cm and am able to fit in a 599; wasn't an issue when I was in it for the best part of an hour. I also daily a Fiesta.
Mind you I also squeezed myself into a Suzuki Cappuccino so take what I say about fitting in cars with a grain of salt.
If you chartered a business jet you'd have to take your shoes off to not rub your head on the ceiling. Unless you charter a BBJ or ACJ

@@Poatan.chama. Yianni from Yiannimize managed to fit into a Peel P50 on a Carwow drag race a few months back so there's definitely a way!
Tbh it's the opposite for me. The rear and the side profile are gorgeous. The front is a "meh" for me.
Wow i was so disapointed about the last 599 video. Thanks for making a second video. This one suits the 599 much better
While i think the trunk area looks pretty weird i love the single tail lights. They look great imo. Growing up in the early 2000’s this was one of my favorites. I loved how the gto and xx could be optioned with the black contrast tops. Looks way better that way
Damn I love this car. From design to sound, from price to interior.
Jay you should be on TV as your reviews are honest and impartial. Always love watching your videos. Thank you
You tube is pretty much tv these days. But agree these are addictive

Yeah...a half hour video...nice one James.. 👍👍
Hoping to buy my first ferrari within the next 18months or so. Torn between a F430, 458 and 599. I find these videos really interesting, thank you.
Thats hard to decide lol
Personally, I'd get a 599, no question about it. The design, the rarity, the v12... So much that differentiates this from the other 2 which mind you, are amazing cars. Since you can afford to choose, do whatever you feel like. enjoy
Another great review James 😁👍👍 I wish I had access to the UK car market. In Australia there are currently 3 Ferrari 599 Fiorano for sale, all are over $500,000!!! (£260,000) You guys in the UK are very fortunate. Thanks again 😁👍👍
Made the same check haha. The poms don't know how good they've got it.
The 3 Aust cars aren’t selling at that price. I know of a 2006 Aust delivered 599 in Grey that traded late last year for $255k AUD. 60kms
But thanks for the clarification, $255k is still over $100k aud more than what James was saying this car was sold for. Definitely food for thought 😁👍👍
I put this on in the shop this morning.. then a customer came so I’ve only just sat down to watch this properly. This has always been my favourite modern Ferrari. And now after watching this I’m certain it’s the one for me… if I can afford one before they skyrocket one day!
Glad to see single clutch gearboxes getting some appreciation through understanding after years of dismissal
They have to be driven like a manual. In an age of numb, push-button, instant-gratification luxo boxes, it's a welcome thing to have a car that requires some thought and provides physical feedback to let you know when you mess up.
Fully agree, I have the 612 HGTS, so much more pleasant to drove on long journeys than my manual 550 maranello.
I think the looks of the 612 have aged very well. It is elegant. And the 599 is up there with their best looking cars IMHO.
I love it.
And the interior all in black with the carbon is just stunning.
One of the best looking v12 for sure...clean and timeless

The problem with GTB's rear end is that there is nothing to break the vastness of the rear bumper sides. In GTO they add air outlet vents and that looks way, way better than the GTB. The rest of it, however, is just right.
EDIT: The spec is also oh so delicious. Nero Daytona over Nero/Crema is just tasteful.
You're not wrong
Just a year ago they were AUD $250k
The problem here is the market is so small, a couple of muppets list at $500 so everyone else follows. No way it’s value at that price.
Exactly. The 3 at $500k+ are consignment cars. Trading hands at best mid to late $300k
Another great video James 👏🏻 I actually think the looks have improved over time and it now looks rather elegant in my opinion.

Very nice car. Always like the look of these. That interior is fantastic. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
Shame u are only doing 2k a year, u are a long time dead , use it 🤦♂️
Hello....fine job on the review. SPOT ON.... I've had my 2007 gtb for over 6 years now and could not recommend anything better to anyone for the money. Great review Jay, the LOTR reference made me chuckle. 599s are getting more interesting by the day.
I felt the same until I spent some time in a 599 - something about Ferrari carbon is different. Ended up buying an FF
I've never heard of that in the bicycle world and I'd never own a steel one. Aluminium is likely the best, much like this car.
I love the looks of the 599, especially the rear. My one dream car!
You can have one in 2-3 years, maybe less. Up to you.
Mr JM! You're smoking rocket fuel! I love the look of these things! Am considering a purchase in the near future?
The specs and details you had in your head were amazing. Blew me away.
Always hated the looks, but God help me, they're starting to grow on me! I guess the 812 is to blame for that. And it's never going to be dainty/lithe/svelte, like the older cars, but then again maybe the size and boot space makes more sense for a GT, which needs to be comfortable.
I don't really like the styling either, it looks ok in silver, but compared to it's predecessor it just doesn't look clean enough
The 599 is the last ferrari I like , can't stand the looks of any current ferrari .
Another excellent video, some of those PTCs were long (how did you remember all those lines?!), impressive delivery James and you make me want to buy one. If only I could!
The flying buttresses on this car are one of the coolest design features I always thought..
Good video jay, really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Love the 599 , definatly a contender if I plan to replace my F430 and get a taste of a V12 ferrari in the future.
One of the most beautiful front engine GT’s ever made in my opinion. On top of it, it is aging beautifully. I’d expect prices to rise if they haven’t already.
I like these and think they’re awesome value. I also like the Ferrari 612
Where could one get the cupholder i saw between the seats?
I actually favor the styling of the 599GTB - one of my favorite Ferrari GT body styles. Also, seems like these cars must be a lot cheaper in the UK than in the states - they generally go for $160k-200k USD here. Might be worth importing one if you can pick one up for around $100k pounds.
Anywhere from 160-200 is a straight up steal, for the seller. While these are very fine vehicles they shouldn't be bought for more than 140 total.
Sat here watching this, (not in a position yet to buy a car like this but give me another 5-10 years and fate permitting I may be)
And I’m thinking Jay would be a fantastic consultant on which car to buy from the classifieds, I understand you’d need a mechanical inspection but his knowledge of the options, and what can be fitted later etc is mighty impressive 😀
Man, I'll give you 3 years tops. Find a way and make it happen. You get what you think you deserve and can get. Ecom is the best path in my opinion. Good luck
@@V1ctwrAr1stos Thanks for the kind comment, 3 years is maybe looking more likely to be fair…. Out of interest Ecom? E Commerce ?
@@stu4181 yep. Dive into it. Learn the basics and begin. More than doable.
Fantastic car imo....the prices are cheap in the uk compared to here nz....love the 612 too
It’s a evening cocktail dress over a rocket. Brilliant car. Aim it straight and pull the trigger. So much charisma.
A really classy looking car with an edge of anger. This car is simply awesome. And how can you forget the noise!
The 599 GTB Fiorano is my dream car. Id still drive my Frontier daily, the 599 would for Sunday cruises.
She is a pretty thing, the F12 is my other favourite hopefully in the garage sometime down the line!
Nice Video, I prefer the aesthetics to the F12 and 812 - seems a lot cleaner and classic to me.
The DBS is a fair comparison hence the similar price in relation to RRP as the 599. The DB9 is probably more in line with a California
I’m not interested in Ferraris really but this one Has always peaked my interest. Love the looks!
I do believe the front wings have indents for the badges if specced
Correct, the front wings ( fenders) have an indentation to accommodate the Scud shields. So removing them would leave a strange dent.
Yep, has always been like that for Ferraris that I know
Thanks for the answers, guys!
1. Although I never actually got a ticket; it really was a damn close thing....and
The king of Sweden has one of these in his collection. Used to have a 456.
My two favorite Ferraris design-wise
I rarely disagree with you as I see you as fair and reasonable but calling the 599 anything else but beautiful. I wasn't a fan of the 456 or the 612 but time has been kind to them. I was a big fan of the 550 and the later 575 just made it even better where I didn't think there was room for improvement aesthetically.
It'd be really interesting to know how much better the HGTE is for most average Sunday drivers. Is it vital?
Your car knowledge is totally amazing
Always loved the 599. Thanking you already ten seconds in
