- After a 2 hour power outage I noticed my pool pump was not on the next morning. I came out to find the Intermatic pool timer was not functioning properly. This is how I fixed it.

Liver saver, my economic is not right nowadays, therefore, I can't afford to buy a new one right away this video save me a few bucks, Thanks a lot Jack of All Trades

That's great to hear. Thank you!
Jack (whether that's you're name or not!), Dude, you just saved me 60 bucks! Thank you for your vid! Totally fixed my problem! My timer wasn't turning at all, stuck my knife into the tell-tale hole and gave a wiggle. The gear started turning right away. Solved!
Bob, that is why I do this! I love helping people and I am glad this solved your problem.
It didn't work for me. Some wheels were still stuck. Others were still turning. :(
Wow. Thank you, that fixed my problem after a power outage. I kept trying to turn the first wheel closer to me vs. the far back wheel. A simple nudge made it happen. Thank you again.
Glad this helped you, thanks!
Amazing fix! You just saved me $80 bucks and the time of replacing this!
Awesome, I'm glad you were able to fix it with the help of this video.
Appreciate it!! Fixed mine just now🎉
Awesome, great to hear!
thanks for the video. Just saw that mine are not turning, so will try this technique today
Good luck!
That was cool. Fixed mine. Thanks!
Awesome, great to hear!
Many thanks good sir. Your wisdom fixed a nagging issue. I appreciate you.
Great, glad I could help!.
Thank you! It works for me!
Awesome, great to hear.
thanks good vid!
Yep, np.
My timer clock seems to stop around 10pm - this has happened 2 days in a row. Once I reset the time, it works until 10pm. No power outage. Any thoughts on how to fix?
What are your on and off "stops" set at? Could it be getting stopped at the "off" but not coming back on?
Just a little advice, I’m an electrician, the non contact voltage tester is just that, it’s just beeps when voltage is there. You need to get a meter and see what the voltage is. There’s many times one leg of the timer is good but the other is bad or you have some voltage but not the correct amount . Voltage tester should really just be used for light troubleshooting. Meter is what you need
Thanks
My timer is keeping time but the trippers do not turn it on or off as of yesterday. They are tightened firmly and not slipping. The dial just turns past them and they wont trip it on or off. The on/ off switch works fine when I switch it by hand. Its not not stuck. I can't figure it out. Has anyone seen this?
Have you changed the location of the timers at all? One is specifically for on, and the other is specifically for off... they each have a different metal incline backing. So if they are out of order, they won't work.
My timer is for outdoor lights. I checked the dial in the box like u suggested and it is turning. My lights will not turn on no matter what I do. I even tried turning the breaker on and off. What else could be the issue? please help.
That's an interesting situation Nancy. If the gears are turning then that means you have power being supplied to the box. Is there any chance you had a power surge and that blew out all of the bulbs? If you pull one bulb you should be able to tell if it's burnt out. If this is landscape lighting is it possible the wire was cut from digging?
Thank you. Just be careful with the teeth on the gears, I think I may have damaged one. It seems to be running.
The teeth in mine are metal. Do you have plastic?
@@JackofAllTrades1 they are metal. My timer was over 10 years old, the gear did break. But I think I would have had to replace it anyway.
All the gears? Looks like theres 3. or does just the back one needs to be moving
Just the back one. The gears in the front move too, but it's so slow you can barely tell.
Can you spray some wd40 down in there to unclog?
That would work but I'd suggest something heavier like a white lithium grease. Just a little.
My timer stopped turning pool on/off. The timer stops keeping time when it reaches either the on or off tripper. If I remove the trippers then the timer works perfectly. I doubt that the trippers are the problem since it happens for both. So once I add the trippers again, pool does not turn on/off and the timer stops there until I intervene. Any ideas?
Have you noticed at all if those tripper tabs are getting pushed around? Or is the clock getting to the tabs and then just failing to kick off? It might be pushing the tabs and you've just not noticed.
No the tabs are firmly in place. If there is a tab at 10am then the clock stops around 9:30 am and just stays there. I’m wondering if the yellow dial (or wheels behind it)is somewhat stripped causing the timer to stop when it meets resistance?
Sounds like the motor doesn't have the torque to overtake the tabs. Is it possible thr tabs are switched (on/off) have they been removed lately? You can take one off and lubricate the backside with grease or oil (white lithium is best) and see if that helps. The back of the tabs are just slopes that guide the timer to turn off ... make sure those slopes are also smooth.
@@user-sv8gx8tq1e could possibly be barely on the gears. Make sure the yellow wheel is fully seated. Yoy know how you pull it out to adjust the time and it springs back I to place? Make sure it's fully going back into place.
Having an issue with mine. When looking through the hole, only the far back gear is turning. The 2 closest are not. Have you ran into this?
The two closer ones are a much lower ratio so they move slowly. Have you pulled out on the yellow disk and then pushed it back in to try to reseat it?
@@JackofAllTrades1 yes I have. I also turned the breaker off and on. I’m not sure what it is but it will not turn the yellow disk at all, even after a full day. I’m assuming the motor is still good because of the back gear turning but may try to replace.
@David Kurilko Jr. try turning those other gears that you see that are closer to the front. It's a pretty simple machine, and half the battle is getting that rear gear to move, which you have. Possibly something has caked itself into the other gears.
@@JackofAllTrades1 Hi Jack-great video! I had the exact problem and could not resolve the issue. Had power, gears were turning but yellow dial was not moving. I read the above, saw my back gear moving and then slowly saw the other gears move. I reset everything and the timer started to move but then got stuck again. I think the closer gears might be getting stuck with by something. Any suggestions on an application to use to help loosen up the gears. WD40? Thanks in advance!
@wadegurnett make sure the yellow facing is actually seated properly. There are small gears on the backside of the face that have to fit into a gear channel with larger gears. It's the same process as if you were going to change the time... you pull out on the yellow face, turn it, then release it, and it should spring load back into place. I suspect some people may have weak springs, so it's not going all the way back into the gear channel. If you wanted to use a lubricant, I would suggest something heavier than WD40... possibly white lithium grease that is typically used for garage doors. Good luck!
