Couldn’t have made a better video mate. I watched your video, went to my local Pinch a Penny, bought a replacement unit, took a picture of the existing wiring set up, made sure the power was off to the unit with a voltage detector after cutting the breaker off, and replaced it in 10 minutes. Works perfectly and saved probably $100 in labor costs. Well done!!
I watch a lot of instructional videos, and yours ranks right up there at or near the top! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge in such a patient and clear manner. Giddyup…
305 Miami it turns out whoever installed my original timer had the load wires backwards, installed a new one and had the same problem. Carefully checked the wiring and “wallah”!! Lol
Unfortunately mine turns off but not on. The On tab doesn't look damaged. This is a very helpful video and well done. For those who would rather replace the entire thing look in the lower right corner at 6:07 and you will see (upside down) T104. That's the entire unit. Just get that instead of wasting 20-30 for just the motor when the whole shebang is $55.
Thanks man this is real helpful . i have 2 timers one for the primary pump and the other for the secondary skimmer pump that has the little robot connected to it. The primary pump timer is out. I will look for the part number this weekend. I thought at first the numbers were on the little mechanism but its actually the numbers on the corner t104. Thanks again this is very helpful.
This was very helpful, just seeing how the unit is attached and how easy to detach. Our unit stopped being adjustable, the time disk would not pull out or push in - frozen in some way. After seeing your video, I was able to tip it out and squirt some penetrating oil back onto the shaft (fortunately we have another working unit so I could see what slides and what doesn't), worked it a bit, and it loosened up. I then applied a heavier oil (just some household 3-1 type) to hopefully keep it lubed, although it might actually deserve a grease of some kind.
I watched the video then went to pool store for the timer. They recommended changing the clock motor which costs less. I could see the gears NOT turning as described. Changing the motor was two screws, two wires, 10 minutes and done ..... costs about half.
I haven’t had ours for even a year and it’s already not working. I see my farthest gear turning behind that hole but not all of them? Does that mean it’s burnt out?
Thank you for a good video. Also, I could hear you very well, which is problem with half the videos on RUclips. Good quality and good technical presentation. Dave
great video, thanks. Question is : when I look through hole in plate at the timer gears, I see one moving The one farthest back from plate. Does this mean the timer motor is bad and just replace it for $18? or replace whole thing for $78 + shipping?
Just a couple of comments. The back of the metal plate may or may not have the part number of the complete mechanism. WG1573-5E is for the clock only. Intermatic has a good rundown of the different complete mechanisms-the real key is the voltage. In the video, it's 208/277, and the T104M is the part number (mine didn't have the T104M designation anywhere on the plate). If the part number is appended with a P then it includes a plastic enclosure, and an E indicates an enclosure. There are other part numbers that will fit the same enclosure but would not be the correct voltage, and there is also a mechanism that has pool heater protection. They'll all fit, but only the T104M would be the correct part number.
Thank you for the video! I got a new part at Home Depot (mine was WG1573-5 and could only find WG1573-5E). The pool is on so I must have done something right. Now to see if it turns off.
Mine was not moving the time dial at all. I checked the motor dials in the back as you suggested and it seemed not all gears were rotating so I just ordered the complete set up on Amazon for $72...Hopefully it will fix the issue....
great video. I have a question. My timer works but it makes a very loud thumping/ticking sound all day. It is located in my basement next to the breakers, but I can hear it clearly in the room above it. Any idea what could be causing the sound? Is it best to just replace the full unit? I assume they are normally very quiet. Thanks!
Very nice video and thanks for taking the time! Quick question, are the same colored wires interchangeable or does order matter? (For example in the three red wires in your timer).
Thanks for the video - really appreciate the walk-through. However, my timer IS working - but it won't switch ON. Could it be that something that the ON trigger needs to flip could be broken? Or would buying new triggers potentially help? I'm trying to troubleshoot before I take the only timer out an purchase a replacement. Thanks for your help.
Great Video! My house was recently hit by Lightning. I had a GFI blow out for my pool light and also my Jandy AuqaPure Salt system (which is on this timer) Keeps blowing the 2.5amp time delay fuses as soon as I flip this timer switch to "on". I see the gears turning but the timer is constantly off. Thinking of just replacing this as its the next logical (cheapest test) Do you think this thing could be shorted out and causing my fuses to blow?
What if the gear in the back is spinning but the ones in front of it are still... are all of them supposed to be moving or just one... what would your diagnosis be?
i can see behind the plate and one of the little gears back there is spinning very slowly but the rest of them arent moving at all, is this still indicating that i would need to replace the timer mechanism?
Turning that main breaker off is not enough to be sure you’re safe. You need to put a voltmeter or voltage detector across the phase and neutral of the timer to be sure it is not sourced elsewhere.
Greg Faris I was scrolling thru these comments hoping to see someone mention this. Not taking anything away from his explanation. However posting a video like this and not strongly suggesting to be 100% certain there’s no power is irresponsible.
Hey quick question--maybe a wiring thing, I hope. The timer runs but when it hits the OFF know the whole thing turns off instead of just the pool pump. It runs fine when you turn it on and keeps time till it hits off....any thoughts? thanks so much
Have the exact timer to run my Polaris. I can feel the plastic gear turning (same as my booster pump timer) but the timer itself isn't moving or advancing in time. What could be wrong?
I can hear my motor working. But for some reason won’t trigger on and off at the setting screw things. And I checked they are on and tight. Any recommendations?
If I need to run my pool timer 24 hours do I just remove my stoppers and turn the manual switch to the “on position” until I turn it off? Can’t find this answer anywhere. Thanks!
You have the most detailed instructions I could find on YT. My dial is not turning and I see that the electrician did not put a ground wire on timer faceplate. I will shut power off and then see what he did inside. I have the power coming from a GFI breaker in my panel, then to a shielded switch on the side of my house near the pool, and then to the timer. And then over to a covered plug on a panel where I plug my pump into. Everything is built to code, but for some reason the timer dial doesn't turn. I have a 24' round above ground pool with 1hp pump. I'll try to get back here to tell you what I find. Thanks for your video!
If you pull the disc out you can rotate it to set the time. There should be text on it stating such. Something like, "PULL OUT DIAL TURN TO SET TIME" Least that's what it says on my Intermatic time clock. Then it should snap back down again when you let it go.
Great video but unfortunately my pond/waterfall timer does not have a model number. I only have the model number of the motor which is WG1570-4. Will any of the timer model numbers T104M, T103, T101M or T103M work for my purposes?
Hey I just found your video because I have the same timer and everything works but it stops at 6 am that's when it should come on but the timer just stops any ideas
I had my Intermatic 104 TM Polaris Timer replaced as the old Timer did not move. The On/Off clips are securely in place. and I have power to both my Pool Pump and the Polaris Pump. The problem is that the Polaris Timer not turning at the same rate (it turns slower) as the Pool Timer which over a 24 hour cycle has the timers hours out of sync. Is the new Polaris Timer defective or is it something else?
Is the timer noisy, i mean does the timer make a noise ? if it's still working shld i hear clicking or timing sounds like a clock wen running ? My timer trouble is it turns off pool filter daily at night but doesn't turn on in morning ? Stay safe Thank You
Probably not. If it's keeping the right time the dial must be moving and I think you can assume the gears are not seized. I'm not an expert on these things...just figured it out by poking around and trying to learn without calling a repair person.
my pool filter recently bugged out and stoppled turning off automatically. i noticed the off setting was no longer clamped down and would just slide down. I looked at the off setting piece and noticed it was bent so i couldnt tighten it so i unscrewed it and pinch it a little with plyers. Now it clamps/screws on the timer, but now the filter pump still doesnt turn off automatically. it turns on but just keeps running past the off setting. any idea?
Ive had a box for years now without problem until now. Timing clock works fine, the cam does not trip on the lights, so i literally see the green arrow go past the silver clock hand without kicking on any lighting....
My box has to be turned on manually. Then the gears turn and it goes off great, but will not come back on on its own. I replaced it and the new one does the same thing. What could cause this?
My pool pump died. I hoped that it was the timer as it was cheaper than a new motor. I installed the new timer. I was wrong, it was the capacitors in the motor (shorted out by a huge scorpion). The pool guy took off all the wires to the new timer. When he re-installed the motor, he neglected to replace the two wires for the override switch that is used outside of the normal pump operation. My question is what terminals do I connect the override switch?
If my timer is working but the on-tripper isn't turning on the pool pump, what is the problem? Is there a problem I can fix without buying a new tripper?
Hi Mark, Your video is awesome. Thanks for explaining everything in detail. I tried to feel the gear with my finger and it is moving. I replaced the 'ON' 'OFF' trippers but the timer still does not work. Your thoughts please? Thx
Hi, TK. This link may help. www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_install_an_intermatic_t104_timer.aspx I'm not a professional. So, I'm not sure what would happen, but guess that the breaker would trip.
Question - Is there a way to keep pump off for days without disrupting the timer and it's settings ? my red lever will not go all the way to the left (as you face timer) ....It stays in middle or I can put it to the on position (all way to the right)... How do I get the lever to the left side - it will not go... Is there a "trick" to moving the lever ?
Remove the ON toggle from the dial. It will "disrupt" the settings but all you have to do is put it back at the same time setting you removed it from. Simple.
Hey there, recently my timer wasn't tripping. I removed my pins and the gears are still turning, but the timer isn't keeping time correctly all the time. Any thoughts on troubleshooting that?
My time clock runs but just does not have enough power to push through turning on and off. It hangs up at the stops on the dial. I pulled it all apart once and oiled it up and that got it going again. I guess I have to do that now.
I just finished watching a couple of other videos before this. Thank you for including the detail on how to identify which part.
Couldn’t have made a better video mate. I rarely comment. This was an absolutely perfect instructional video. Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you. You saved me some cash. And my family are enjoying the pool again.
This was super helpful! I couldn’t figure out why my timer wasn’t running and this fixed my problem in minutes! Thank you!
You're welcome. Glad the video was helpful.
I watch a lot of instructional videos, and yours ranks right up there at or near the top! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge in such a patient and clear manner. Giddyup…
Watched your video every year for the past 3 years... I think I’m actually going to replace it this year!!
next year keep us posted...lol
305 Miami it turns out whoever installed my original timer had the load wires backwards, installed a new one and had the same problem. Carefully checked the wiring and “wallah”!! Lol
Just replaced timer. Very easy. Your video was very helpful
Thank you
This was very helpful and I was able to replace my timer in a number of minutes.
Thanks, for taking the time to teach us!! Great job

Thank you FOR SHARING. You made IT SO EASY. I LOVE YOU.
thank you for the video! Ended up having to replace my unit so, followed this video step by step and was super easy to change out!
Glad it helped!
Excellent! Thank you so much!
Thanks! Great video! Easy to understand and follow. My timer has not been turning on at the time as specified.
Well done. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this.
Excellent. This really helps. Thank you!
Thanks for this great video! you literally saved me over 300 dollars!
Glad it was helpful.
Best instructions ever!
Excellent video. Well organized and very clear instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Super love this video! Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this! Awesome job explaining this!
Excellent video 👏👏

Brilliant presentation, easy to follow...
Very detailed and helpful explanation. Thanks!
Perfect example for troubleshooting. Thank you
Trouble shooting he told you how to install it
You should do more like this. Very clearly explained. Good job! Thank you!
Simple explaining, great viewing.
Awwww, sweet. Thank you for this!!
I watched the video then went to pool store for the timer. They recommended changing the clock motor which costs less. I could see the gears NOT turning as described. Changing the motor was two screws, two wires, 10 minutes and done ..... costs about half.
Thanks! That is the info I was really looking for ... how to repair it, mot replace it.
I replaced the gear motor for under $20 and saved a bunch of money. Got the part a Grainger locally too
I haven’t had ours for even a year and it’s already not working. I see my farthest gear turning behind that hole but not all of them? Does that mean it’s burnt out?
Thanks for the nice video, it will help me a lot when I replace my timer.
very clear explanation, helpful!
Absolute best “how to” video I’ve ever seen. How do I subscribe to your other clips? Thank you!!!
Thank you. So tired of trying to remember to turn on & off. Great video.
I wish you would of clarified if both plastic gears need to be moving or only one (the back one).
Thank you for a good video. Also, I could hear you very well, which is problem with half the videos on RUclips. Good quality and good technical presentation. Dave
You are the man!!! Thanks
Glad to help
great video, thanks. Question is : when I look through hole in plate at the timer gears, I see one moving The one farthest back from plate. Does this mean the timer motor is bad and just replace it for $18? or replace whole thing for $78 + shipping?
Ever get an answer to this? I too only have the furthest gear moving only.
I’d replace the whole thing. It’ll save you time in the long run once the only working gear goes too
is happening to me too! I can hear the motor running but it won't turn the front plate. I replacing the whole thing.
Well done
What if the timer is working but the pump still doesn’t kick on or off?
Thank you.

Replaced the timer, but the gears on the new timer still don’t turn. Maybe this is power supply issue?
My timer will shut the power off but won’t turn it back on … and yes, I’m using the proper pins.
Any suggestions?
Very clearly explained. Excellent job.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi Mark,
Your video is awesome. Thanks for explaining everything in detail. I tried to feel the gear with my finger and it is moving. I replaced the 'ON' 'OFF' trippers but the timer still does not work. Your thoughts please? Thx
Excellent Won’t turn on. Replaced on switch. No help. Turns off. Any ideas other than replacing timer Thanks
Paul Davis Having the same problem. Did you find a solution?
I'm trying to set time on a submersible water tank so I can water my cattle. Same worked well for 2 weeks. Now I can't get water to pump.
So I took mine off without taking a picture. If I put the wires back on incorrectly will it trip the breaker or worse?
Hi, TK. This link may help. www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_install_an_intermatic_t104_timer.aspx

Good lord people are stupid.
Where can I find the kind I have
WG1573-5E
That on the back of the motor
???
Hey there, recently my timer wasn't tripping. I removed my pins and the gears are still turning, but the timer isn't keeping time correctly all the time. Any thoughts on troubleshooting that?
Do you have the on and off switches in the correct order?
Good film.TU
