      People on the Internet are so petty. I think it has something to do with the anonymity. The stuff you read in some comments would never get said to people's faces. The lack of civility is the thing I hate the most about what has become the best way to share information man has ever had.

    Hey nate, if you do a fj cruiser transfercase swap and hardwire the front actuator you can slam it in 4 wheel drive 'manually'. The conversion is bolt on. Which would solve your abs issue and avoid being stuck in 2wd

    I appreciate how you review items. You give an initial impression but hold judgement until you have adequate time to evaluate. So helpful for those of us who are looking for information on new products but want a real world, well tested, honest review. So many people I see get a new product (Sponsored or purchased) and give a final review after one quick use with no negative feedback, not helpful to me. There are pro's & con's to any product depending on the use and you can't know them all until you have tried them in different situations.

    When using a resistor to mimic the stock locker, start with a larger value to minimize the current and step down as needed to get the light to turn off. You can likely drive a relay from the connector to run the air solenoid and trigger the locker light on the dash also.

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 2 года назад +2

      Driving the air solenoid for the rear locker with the stock locker circuit is a great idea! It might even be enough to fool the computer into thinking the locker is still connected.

    • @dang5351
      @dang5351 2 года назад +1

      You can’t fool the light, if it was a dummy light sure but it’s controlled by the ECM over CAN.

    • @Fei8lo
      @Fei8lo 2 года назад +2

      @@dang5351 The connector to the diff is likely 4 wires which have 2 for the locker solenoid/electromagnet and 2 for a limit switch that tells the control module if it is engaged. I have not worked on the new Tacoma but I believe this is how the older ones work.

  • @HeathKentucky
    @HeathKentucky 2 года назад +5

    That resistor will work I had to do it with my air ride that I deleted on my truck. Installed a resistor at each shock location and the computer was fooled to think it had the right resistance. I'm not a mechanic but I am a electrician and as long as the computer sees a certain resistance at that location then it thinks everything is good to go. Just make sure you use some shrink tube or place in location it doesn't get road grime etc. Good luck if you have anymore ?s let me know

  • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
    @Fix_It_Again_Tony 2 года назад +1

    Before you put a sway bar on the rear you should get the corner weights and figure out the spring rates you actually need for the travel you have. With IFS the spring rate is going to be significantly different than the wheel rate so keep that in mind. I'll be watching for the ABS solution you come up with for the nine inch. Especially when you convert them to disc brakes there should be enough room for tone rings and sensors. Alternately, you can take the front signals and maybe feed them into the rear sensor wires, though that might require a custom module.
    I think the resistor idea might work, and it would be cheap to try. The resistance is low because the E-locker uses a solenoid or a motor - both are just coils of wire. The computer probably "probes" it with a small amount of current or a really fast pulse at normal current just to make sure the wiring is intact at start up and then also occasionally while the vehicle is on. I would give the resistor a shot. You should get a big one in case it somehow activates. You don't want to burn up a resistor. At 14 volts and 2.6 ohms that resistor will dissipate 75 watts when it is energized. Chassis mount 100W resistor are reasonable available. 2.7 ohms is a standard value, but the value probably isn't super critical. Below is a 3 ohm 100W chassis mount part. Digikey was out of 2.7 ohm parts in the same power range. 3.0 is also a standard value.
    www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-passive-product/HSC1003R0J/2731208
    If you decide to install it be aware resistors like that aren't made to get wet. It lay be fine because the restive element is epoxied into the aluminum housings, but maybe not. The best place to mount it would be in the cab somewhere. Maybe under the hood would be acceptable, but generally electronics under the hood are designed to get wet too. If you can intercept the wires before they leave the cab that would be ideal. You'll want to mount it to metal in case it becomes energized.

Plus steel skid plate not flimsy alum. I have those Methods too..nice. Need to run my exhaust different and run the ARB front...4.88s. Don't want to trailer this truck. But thanks for all you do and keep it up. I know it takes a lot of energy doin this stuff...take care.

    Thanks for the update Nate!
    Good on you for giving yourself some downtime with camera work. People that haven't done this type of camera work don't realize what goes into it. If you can't take the time to simply enjoy your truck with friends, and not work about working the camera all the time, it will slowly (or quickly) degrease the quality of your passion.
    Side note: You really don't need to apologize so much (or at all) in your videos. I know you do your best to make high quality videos, but this is not some hollywood movie you are making, where you have a team of people working with you and work in a controlled environment. If people can't see and appreciate how much you put into your videos and feel the need to complain about it, then I genuinely feel bad for those people.

    Do you know why jet engines replaced props?
    It's because piston engines reached the end of their basic physical limits.
    So too with rock crawler builds using traditional chassis, axles, engines, etc.
    I'd like to see someone do a clean sheet approach with 4 electric motors driving 4 independent wheel/strut assemblies.
    I would start with motorcycle front forks for each wheel, but if it proves to be too much stress, then experiment with angling until maybe you reach a regular moto rear wheel with supporting strut
    You seem to have the skills to pull this off. A fully functioning spider mobile would be able to crawl 90 degree grades with winch line providing front balance (not drag power)
    This is obviously the future, so be among the first who abandons the "piston" in favor of "jets"

    If you're going to go the resister route then for 2.6 ohms at 12V you'll be close to 5A at 55W. Remember that inductance is not the same this as resistance and the 2.6 ohms is not really what the electric system is "seeing" which is an inductive load. I'd try something like this HS50 56R J power resister. It should be able to handle the amperage and hopefully fool the system.

    I'm not sure how the factory electronic locker works, I'm guessing it is on a switch like the Rubicon Jeeps, so why not use the factory switch to control your rear locker? I know the 9" is a great axle but why not upgrade to a full float rear axle and be done with it? Seems to me like that would have the most value for what you're wanting to do and still gives you "off the shelf" parts for the most part where a 9" Seems more like a step up semi-float until you're tired of breaking axles and upgrade to the full-float and just end up spending twice the money. Just thoughts. Personally I'd like to see a full-float build with the bolt pattern change and what's involved.

    Since you mentioned an air leak for the lockers maybe you'd have an answer because I can't seem to get a reasonable answer for the question - what's the rage with ARB lockers (or any air lockers for this matter)? It seems so much easier and straight forward to use electric lockers with no need for on board air and obviously zero leaks. So why ARB?

    Awesome run down of everything dude. Really cool to hear how everything went. Always good to take time to relax, hang with friends and just wheeling. You tube will be here, no rush on pumping out videos again. Don’t burn out man.

    Hey Nate! Got a question about rear shock mounting position. I'm altering the rear shocks on my 94 XJ (Bumble Jeep). I've already made my shackle relocation brackets (based on a DIY video).I'm going to fab a Crossmember for the upper shock mounts that bolts into the rear axle bump stops. I will also be removing the lower shock mounts and replacing them with something similar to the Zone kit that moves them up past the bottom of the axle tube. The last thing I will be doing, is to move both lower shock mounts to the same side of the axle tube (either the front or the rear). So my question is which would be better, mounting them both on the front side of the axle or the back and why. Thanks for you time. God bless and stay well.

    Love your videos but if you burn out and quit then we all loose. Never apologize for recharging. We all benefit. And a great build! Can’t believe you did all of that to a brand new truck. Would love to see some vid from trails when you can.

    I used to use Toyo open country MTs, they are good tires but my gladiator came with BFG KO2s and they work very well in the snow, not so good in mud though.

    Why don't you make an IFS kit like that (front and rear) for the modern IFS Jeep Grand Cherokee so it can run 40s? It would be much better offroad then!

    What wheels and offset did you use? Looks like 701s, just wondering rimsize/offset?

    Check out the GlazzKraft Wolf body kit! going to be doing this kit to mine, I like that it’s not crazy wide and round like other kits but still gives you the clearance to run 35s with long travel

    I’d love to see your truck in person, if I’m not mistaken… you live in Tacoma as well correct? Will this be a street driven truck as well? I would also like to see how the width of the truck would do on some tight trails in Elbe and or evans creek locally. Some of them are pretty tight for a first gen Toyota pickup at stock width.

    keeping with the old school toyota theme, most of those trucks are geared incredibly low. Are you happy with the gearing or do you want it lower? And don't apologize about not showing it wheeling, we're adults, it's ok. lol. Gotta take care of you man.

    Call ECGS (East Coast Gear Supply) in NC. They may have a fix for the e-locker delete flipping lights on.

But it may be an addition to ur Tacoma adventures an knowledge to contact an pick his brain for ECU code cracking they were able to override an turn off all lights that were reading incorrectly.

    Quick comment about your comment on abs sensors and 4wd. The way to get around that would be just to get rid of the factory electric tcase. I have a fj cruiser tcase in my Tacoma which is a manual tcase. Never had an issue with it and no lights on dash. All you have to do it’s wire lights coming off tcase to dash to trigger 4wd light on dash. You don’t have to worry about your truck not wanting to go in 4wd.

    Sanitizing the video to no traffic or background noise, I feel is not necessary; you’re

    Does McNeil not make them for the 3rd gen taco? They have fiberglass fronts for 2nd gens that have 3” rise with only like a 1” flare aka bulge.

    38s and no rubbing is impressive, I'm sitting on 33's with 3inch lift and getting rubbing on the mounts and a few other spots. was fine before alignment, now it rubs :/, really need to sort it out.

    Hit up Milogen Fabrications, based out of NorCal, for the front fenders, he does a super clean fender shave down for fitting 35s

    Could you not cut the stock front fenders, and then fabricate a large flare for tire coverage? Something like what Matt's Off Road Recovery does on their vehicles? It might look a little "fabricobbled," but if you are going to rock crawl this truck for a year, it's not going to stay looking perfect.
