@berniedreske6525 why do you watch Wayne's videos at all? This is the second time you've left a comment that adds nothing to the conversation apart from showing yourself as a troll and a poor man's version at that.
Im from Australia and now live in rural Philippines also traveled Indonesia,, I've found the best way to deal with the dogs is completely ignore them and pretend they don't exist, they quickly loose interest,,, also found the Muslim people there to be very friendly and helpful. Thanks for the video, good luck 😊
Thanks for the advice. I've tried ignoring but you turn your back on these dogs and some of the lunge at you from behind. I've also found locals here to be great. Cheers.
I get a great kick out of chasing the smaller ones, which shit themselves...... But come back as I continue to save face! But beware the wrong one may be the one to keep an eye on , the people there are great however in 1997 they seemed to be very envious of the Balinese & it wasn't as economical
The local people fail to realize that street dogs roosters etc drive tourists away and keep them from returning. People vaction to other places not having these issues. It affects the residents financial situation and they refuse to fix the problem. Most likely from ignorance... Me as an example have over 3k per month pension to put into that local economy, but I will not go to a place with dogs running around in the street... so they lose.. having stray dogs in the street seems more important to them than a better lifestyle. I can't understand it. Their loss.

I've been around a lot of rural Asia and kooky dogs are absolutely everywhere. This might feel counter intuitive (keep your rocks for backup), but I've convinced myself if I don't make eye contact or react to them they quickly lose interest and it's worked for me so far.
I live in rural Asia (Lao) and I don't have his problem. That is because the dogs here are as liad back as the people. The dogs reflect the energy of thier owners.

Hi Liz. The dog thing here is becoming a bit of a drag, I have to admit. And yes, wasn't that an impressive catch Thanks so much for your ongoing contributions to the channel, Liz. It's appreciated!
@@fiascodagama1 Yes, more fish, especially Mahi-Mahi(colorful, electric-bluish, green fish). Lombok sounds like a fisherman's paradise. Rabies scares me. Take care. 🐠
Great vid Wayne. Yep shame about the dogs in parts of Indonesia. Interestingly there are very few dogs in comparison on Java. A word you might find useful is tangkap = caught. When speaking to the fisherman tangkap ikan itu di mana = where did you catch that fish
Thank you for the ongoing word drops, they're great! Lombok (or at least where i am) does seem to have a dog problem now. i never remember it being this bad. Thanks, Daniel.
Thanks again Wayne nice Blog . The fish looks like our trevally (GT) , shame about the dogs im always cautious . The old saying once bitten twice shy. Have a great day Cheers
i was brought up with a saying 'never show a dog fear' they pick up on that stuff. if you are friendly to them not a problem. Incidentally having watched that video to the end.. those dogs are just doing their job. they are following you and barking at you because you smell different. You are walking around areas which are peoples homes and probably with the amount of tourists they get there the dogs are on alert. the 'Alpha' would probably have left you alone if you were not threatening it and trying to intimidate it because you are frightened of it. I used to work in a job that required i entered properties with rottie and all sorts of trained guard dogs and i learned to get over my fear really quick the biggest problem (only found one that I would not enter the yard with), was actually some of those rotties are so happy to have a visitor they will let you in the yard but you'll need help getting out.
I was “rounded up” by two cattle dogs when I was sitting on a beach recently. They were going at my throat and I had to throw them off me as their owner called them off me. One went me a second time as the owner apologised. This whole worship of dogs over people is out of control.
@fiascodagama1 there was a couple close calls but dog ran down street as it turned it quickly attack biting multiple times.i like Bali but family scared to return.
I was in Lombok 1998 and then it was deserted and almost no tourists, but the locals kids was scarry , they treated me whit knife if I didn't buy fruits from them on the beach, i was told by my driver to be careful
That was a pretty awful thing for you to have to contend with. Lombok for a while had quite a bad reputation and you were advised to be a little more cautious as robberies weren't unheard of and petty crime was often reported. It has improved since those days.
And the way you are carrying something in your hand.........maybe they dont like being filmed 🤔 I had a similar thing with dogs in Tamak Siring in Bali....dozens of them......definately unnerving
Hi Wayne,I read citronella/pepper sprays for emergencies with dogs&maybe a folding walking stick to use as needed to intimidate/high pitch whistle. I would be too concerned over dogs. Hopefully one day they allow you inside of mosque as some of truly impressive. I still recall one in Syria where they believe part of John the Baptist is inside. I have only been to Batam as an overnight ferry trip from Singapore so hopefully will see more of Indonesia one day, stay safe and well, cheers
Thanks for the spray advice, I considered if it was worth picking up some somewhere. It would be nice to take a peek inside a mosque here so I'll keep asking. :) I hope you get to see more of Indonesia as well, Stephanie.
Tsunami was Boxing Day 26th December 2004, 20 years ago, I remember it well, nearly 170k people died in Aceh, North Sumatra. I don't think it affected Lombok much, but the Indon govt. sensibly took pretty strong defensive measures all over - the whole archipelago is subject to much volcanic/earthquake activity as you know. I don't like throwing stones at the dogs, too much risk of collateral damage🤕. On Java, probably other islands too, the locals tend to carry big sticks - probably not practical if you're using a scooter:-)
Yes, I was also in Indonesia when the tsunami hit on a trip that started at the end of 2003 which caused the memory lapse saying it was at that time. One person recommended a spray bottle with wa ater and pepper/chilli mix which i hadn't heard before and thought a good idea.
The tsunami was in 2004, not 2003. It's 20 years ago this week so it's all over the news. Surfing in Austria could be interesting, seeing that there are no seas or oceans there, it's surrounded by other countries ;-)
Yes, that's why i asked if they had a wave pool in Austria. I realized after i uploaded my mistake with the date - I was in Indonesia at the time with my trip starting in late 2003 and that was stuck in my head. Good to see you, Ninette.
