My experience in Bali with my future wife at the time (now married) This was 10 years ago. We had decided to get married and I went to her father and the head of our village to ask his permission to marry. Happily for me, they agreed and we made plans to marry on my next trip back. My future wife already had a house, so i came to stay there while we made wedding plans. Things were going well for a couple of days and then we had a load of police turn up and threatened to take me to jail for living together out of wedlock. Of course, they were trying to get a large cash payment to make the problem go away. The system here is that whoever informs on this kind of thing gets a percentage of the bribe payed to the police, its like a business almost for them. But unfortunately for the local police and the informant we had the approval from the village. We told them to get off our land and find someone else to harass for easy money. I fully understand the intentions behind the law and agree with it. it's just unfortunate that it gets manipulated sometimes to extort money from foreigners. I do love Indonesia and the vast majority of the people, but there are a few that let jealousy and greed consume them.

Unmarried people weren't/aren't allowed to cohabit.
@@fiascodagama1 Unmarried people shouldn't live together..........what a weird law.
But I guess she knew it, then why didn't she let you know or was it for her to loot money from you which is why she didn't tell you???
@@manujohn99 Yes, it was a money thing.
How many years ago did the incident you were talking about happen? 40? Lol.
Not quite, but not that far away from it. :)
Ripper story Wayne!
Thanks, tw. Cheers.
Indra, Indera is male name.. 🤭
Indira is female name.. a bit rare though
Might have been Indri.
@@fiascodagama1 oh ok that's a woman's name.. although I prefer if she was "Indra", now that would make the story more interesting.. 😉
Wishing you happy New year 2025🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you. I hope yours is a great one also. Cheers.

Indonesia is the last place on this planet I want to be .
Good to know what you like or don't like, Jim. Many of us love it here.
When I was working in solo one of the chaps meet a young girl in a club took her back to his room sliped him some thing in his drink and robbed him. But mostly I loved my time there with very few problems I used to wander around the campons on my bike I still miss it. And I have not worked there for over 10 years now since I retired.
I have no desire to go to Bali I have met some lovely Indonesian students in Wagga uni after the 1970 ‘s journalist shooting by the military I don’t trust them never have I find Thailand more respectful , and cleaner .
