- Today I walk from Tuban to Kuta taking lunch from my new favorite warung and meeting the lady who owns it who surprises me with her age and youthful looks.
After a quick meal I find a woman who has strange golden cylindrical things attached to her scooter and I ask what they might be used for.
I meet subscribers Sam and Tina who are from new Zealand just completing an adventure of their own around Bali. They left their breakfast getting cold to run out into the rain to say hello which I thought very kind of them.
Stopping for coffee I meet a family in Kuta attending a funeral and they tell me they’re from Canggu where they have a laundry service. We discuss how quickly Canggu has grown and how young foreigners have taken a shine to the place.
Looking for accommodation in Kuta I get the tour of a room which is only $AUD15, very central, with wifi, A/C, swimming pool and placed in a quiet spot which suits me just fine.
I also meet Mick who was driving down the street and asked me to jump into his car and go with him to wherever he was going - so I did.
Another great day meeting people in Bali.

I agree with your first guests this morning. Amed is perfect for the slow traveller like myself. Accom on the beach homestays are $30 inc a huge breakfast that last me the entire day apart from an added banana mid afternoon. Outside patio with lounge bed and privacy 30m from the sound of water washing onto the shore to put me asleep. I can comfortably walk in the morning along main drag or up mountain paths and like you said can drop into the ocean and drift over the corals before lunch. I booked 3 days in Amed and have just extended for another 5. Can live for AUD$40 a day in paradise,, well fed. Sometimes places just find you.
Love your work Wayne.
Hey S1mmo. Glad you've found your spot up there in Amed - looking forward to getting back myself. Thanks for passing on how you do it there. Cheers.
Your accommodation is excellent Wayne. My last time in Bali (March 2024) I booked accommodation online, and got a dark, dingy, down the back room, for $580aud for 7 nights 😲 Your room is fantastic!!
My second week, I stayed with friends in a villa, 3 mins out of Sanur. It was beautiful, but expensive.......
Even though I'm female, 78, and a solo traveller, you've given me inspiration to look around first and get cheaper accommodation. Love your videos 🌊🏝
Hi Veronica. I thought I'd mentioned walking around to find value accommodation so many times that I should actually record it. :) Thanks so much for taking the time.
@VeronicaHambrook look at Sativa Cottages in sanaur most beautiful swimming pool I've stayed there & looking forward to staying again. Also Zest at legian has beautiful rooftop pool stayed there 3times.
Hi again Wayne, you are a legend mate, down to earth and tells how it is,very good bahasa, love your interviews and vlogs.

Excellent value Wayne,

Hey Kellie. Can't really complain. Cheers.
As always..loved your latest video and just wonderful to see your popularity..no time for loneliness or the blues😊
When i saw the fat fish..i wondered if you had secretly been feeding them😂
I hate the barking dogs too!!!!
The forshore of Kuta beach as eroded soooo much..how sad.
Remember the days when you could sit on beach with Bintang..not that we did, but what a shame re erosion..barely any beach..
I know each stall owner has a little platform but they look precarious.
Enjoy the rain😊
Thanks Elaine. Plenty of people here in Kuta saying hello to keep the blues away that's for sure. And the fish do seem to be well fed so no sneaky feeding times. :) I do remember Kuta beach to be much different - nothing stays the same it seems.
I’m so jealous, busy at work can’t even watch this untitled tonight. Enjoy yourself
Thanks Tim. i hope your day scoots by.
Just beautiful to see Kiwis and Aussies connecting overseas.
I am ex-Kiwi myself, now full time nomad/traveller since 2002.
Hi there!

Hi Wendy. That's a good reason to stay inside. :)
Congrats for more views on you videos. I been following you since months ago, so happy to see your channel grow a lot. You have a lovely personality❤
Gee thanks, Alan. The channel is slowly growing and it is kind of satisfying as it does take a bit of effort. Appreciate you taking interest and thanks for the kind words.
Hi Wayne
Often unplanned days are often the best .
Beautiful outlook on life
Enjoy your day .🌺
Hi Jane. It gets too hard trying sometimes. :) You have a great also and thanks for stopping by.
Sir, I just want to say thank you. For years, I've watched people like fun for Louis with their travel vlogs, and these days they all seem like they are trying to hard and over complicate videos. I've been looking for a nice chill vlog channel and you've nailed it.
Love the videos. Keep it up.
That's really generous of you, WM. Thanks so much!
I can see the spring back in your step now your back in Indo.
I get the feeling the subscriber engagement on the ground is going to become a permanent feature and thats a good thing.

Hey, dp. Good to see you again and thanks as always for watching the little vids. Cheers.
Hi Wayne, Another nice walk and chatting to people on the way... Thanks so Much for Sharing 😎
You're most welcome, Lorraine.
Wayne you're becoming quite the celebrity on Kuta and nearby. 😎👍🏻🙏🏻
Not sure about that, Eddie. it is kinda funny when someone almost recognizes you and quite place where from. :)
Good to see you up and about was thinking the hangover may have put a dent in on step 😂😂😂.
Everything's harder to recover from these days. :)
Have a great stay Wayne, look forward to hearing/seeing the adventure! All the best
Thanks, Keith.

Couldn’t agree about the beachfront more Wayne. Bali had a wonderful set of beaches that they have tried to overcapitalise.
Natural is best for enjoyment and sand replenishment.
Hi RBS. Yes, give us a long clean sandy beach without the clutter, I reckon.
i think that room is beautiful,,, i love simple rooms like this
Me too. :)
Gosh Kuta Beach looks so dingy now. Very disappointing. Love your new digs in Kuta. Look forward to your wandering around videos. Cheers 🎉
It's pretty bleak beachside for sure. Thanks as always, marisayoung8670.
You always makes good and very informative video's
Thanks, BI. I appreciate it.
Hey wayne love your videos, we have just sold everything and planning to travel asia for 2 years in 4 weeks time. With backpacks and a scooter,i would love the name of the homestay in kuta. cheers mate stevo and jules.

As always, another great video Wayne 🙏🙏
Hi Claire. Thanks so much. Hope you're having a great day.
Thankyou wayne, such a wonderful video, Thankyou for sharing with us❤
Hey mattie. Thanks so much.
Winging it is the best way to go... love Bali and visited over 24 times doing it differently each time.. We are now heading back to Vietnam for second time just winging it.
Just winging it opens you up to the unexpected which keeps it interesting. Safe travels.
that pretty lady too.. and that warung looked very deliscious
Really fresh and tasty food.
Nice clip Wayne and the accomodation looked good for the money. It must be nice having people recognise you. Maybe we will bump into you one day.
Hi Sean. Everyone has been really great that I've met so far and I hope we get the chance to say hi one day also. Cheers.
Nice relaxed episode Wayne. The interaction and recognition was cool. That little place looked reasonable given the location. Cheers
Thanks, Phil. Not bad value given its location for sure.
Good to hear your back with us again Wayne.Always helpful to see your tips and if possible could you please let me know the address for the $15 per night in Kuta.Looks nice and quiet which I prefer these days…..Much appreciated, take care,,,,,😊
Thanks, xen. The name of the place is Sari Indah Cottages Kuta.
Fiasco love your work …. I’m retiring this year and planning a trip to Bali Thailand and Vietnam Cambodia my question is about air tickets and visa lm like you just keep moving and stay at places l like for a while then move on to the next place ?..so I’m confused on how to book a ticket from Australia to Bangkok ect….how to book as most places you need a onward ticket out of the countries ( you can not book open tickets like the old days … do you have any suggestions 3-5 months travel time depending on how long my money last haha!!!
Hi Barry. You can find the cheapest flight out of the country to show as an onward ticket and then not use it. For example if flying into Thailand you buy a Phuket, Thailand, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ticket for $60 but you never go to Phuket and never use it.
@ 🙏 okay got it cheers mate 👍
It's best to make a plan and have a ticket that you MIGHT use to show the airline when checking in (more likely to get hassled by check in staff than immigration) but preferably one that is not too expensive
When lived in Melbourne I always found that the airlines and check in staff were a real pain like that. I understand that they have to cover themselves, but they used to make it difficult. I always had an Air Asia ticket to KL, but that wasn't always enough to shut them up and they'd ask bout a ticket back and stuff. How is it flying out of Perth to Bali?
Hey, I just thought I would drop you a line to say how much I've been enjoying your videos. Last time I was in Bali was 2008. I'm from the USA, so it's harder for me to get there, but I dream of coming back. At any rate, you put on a fun show. I'd also love to see more of the gamelan music if you get a chance.
Thanks, round..I'll look out for some gamelan.
@@fiascodagama1 Cool!
those stalls down the beach are small enough they'd have to sleep standing up however in hi-season staff get very mia-mia creative with tarps, i'm an aircon with a wee fridge kind of guy
They should put a few of them together so you can at least stretch out. :)
I love hearing you speak Indonesian Wayne, as I also am just starting learning on duolingo.
It's really enjoyable and can't wait to get back to Bali soon to practise in real life.
Hey g-raff. It's just a lot of fun, isn't it? Nobody cares if you're making mistakes and getting it wrong, it's just nice to interact. I hope you can get back soon. cheers.
@@fiascodagama1 Yeah it is a lot of fun. How did you learn btw?
Yes the people everywhere appreciate you taking the time to learn.
So many foreigners miss out on that buzz of learning and being able to actually communicate with locals in their language rather than through ours.
I will look you up when I get back and let's have a coffee or beer together :)
We’re loving your content. A side bonus for us is that my wife and I pick up basic Indo words/phases with your help. We learnt how to say ‘drunk’ from this video😂. It would be handy in an upcoming video you comment that their food is “very delicious”. Keep up the great work.
Thanks, DJM. Glad you're picking up a few words - I'm bound to lead you astray many times I'm sure.
Great video as always
Thanks, Jack. Appreciate it.
Your videos are really great man!

It's a joy to find something that's affordable in a good location isn't it, Nan?
@ it sure is, and the more affordable the longer the stay.
G'day Wayne - my name is James, and I'm a new subscriber. I live in a small town in southern New South Wales called Holbrook. Been watching a few of your videos, and find them really useful. Pretty sure that's Sari Indah Cottages where you're staying - it appears brilliant value at $15.00 AUD per night. I always stay further south at Jesen's Inn 2. It's only a stone's throw from Warung Nikmat, which is where Mick dropped you off.
Hi James. Thanks for taking the time to say hello from, Holbrook.. I also thought $15 was a pretty good deal. Cheers.
WELCOME BACK Mate
Cheers, Aussie.
That's funny, I opened this video with the intention of asking you if you think you'd return to India again and boom you mentioned it.
I spent a month there photographing seriously and am itching to return. I'm still working so can only do a 6 week block per year. So many places to see in depth.
I'm keen
India would be a great place to immerse yourself in photography, Dwayne. I can imagine how you';d be eager to return.
Your NZ guests were great. $9 USA looked good. stay safe W. and yes, Lovina, Singaraja and Amed are still pure and un touristed.
Hi silvio. They were indeed great people, and looking forward to heading north.. Cheers.
Hi again Wayne,
It would seem that you are back in my neck of the woods. Let me know if you have time to catch up today. I'm off to do some charity work up at Kintamani tomorrow morning dropping off some food parcels to one of the poorer villages in the region. Let me know if you would like to come along for the day
That's a great offer, Paul - thanks so much. I would normally accept but the truth of it is I'm just dealing with a minor medical thing at the moment which demands I don't roam to far in the next couple of days. Hope you understand.
@@fiascodagama1 Of course mate. No stress. Take care of yourself. Im back in the south on Sunday and here until Wednesday
You look much happier in Bali.
And feel it. :)
Ha. I bet you're about to walk on many people's old stomping grounds.
Great video.

I 100% agree with you about Kuta beach. It use to be beautiful with shaded areas at the top, and gentle slope down to the sand. And the surf was world famous. These days the surf is mostly non existent. There are some positives for the local Vendors with the huts and Warungs, but I feel mostly it is a negative. Take it back 10 years or more and I feel people would enjoy it even more.
It would be a shame to have lost it, TAG. The place is definitely changing on and off the beach.
Great to see Tuban from your perspective on the street. Agree with your opinion on Kuta beach. Its good that its been organised to enable the vendors to trade. Perhaps these could have be located in groups interwoven with clear views of the pantai every now and then. I thought 7000 for kopi hitam seemed ok ? Was that mahal ??
No, not expensive. My facial expressions which you didn't see was me making a joke of the price (over reacting) - everyone laughed with it also if you look. I actually paid the lady ten thousand.
yep some senior official has done very nicely out of all the beach vendors mandated use and purchase of those shabby wooden brown boxes, he's probably got a wood factory in Java or the best buddy has😀
In think they could have come up with a more aesthetically pleasing solution.
Hey Wayne, Kori's restaurant is in poppies lane 2, RHS walking from the monument end to the beach. If you haven't been it's well worth it, like an oasis in the madness of poppies 2. rl.

Hi Lincoln. The name is Sari Indah Cottages Kuta. Cheers.
I first went to Bali in 1980 the beach was beautiful and clean with coconut trees and clean sand. I went back many times until 1993..I could see the change coming haven't been back since. The people are still beautiful but I think greed is destroying the place. But it's not just Bali
Hio Gary. I know what you're saying but I think there are still some areas outside the tourist zone where a little of the old Bali still resides.
Good evening all !
Hi SC.
Would appreciate it if you could show us the food before you eat it. At least a few seconds would be good and it adds an additional element to your videos.
Ok, I'll do just that.

Wayne, I once met on Bali 12 Spanish Nurses on Holiday together. Could you just imagine trying to please 12 distinct appetites? Go Solo Kawan!
You have a far bigger appetite for adventure than me. :)
Kuta Pantai will never be the same again as nature has taken its course there. Without major remedial work including a properly built rock wall nearly all the way up to Legian it will only be a few years until Jalan Pantai is gone too.
It looks a bit grim, doesn't it?
If that hotel is on Bedugul Lane i stayed there in a fan room upstairs for $3 a night many times 10 years ago, & $2 a day scooter hire.
That's about as good as it gets.
Look at Eddies' cottages at Seminyak .
Thanks, Kath. Always like to get tips on good places. Cheers.
I havnt stayed there yet it has a little kitchen & pool & great location & Lovely Greek Restaurant Santorini very close.
Selemat Sore, Wayne. Back 2 my old stomping grounds in Kuta. What happened to the beach? Sidewalk, no walking in the sand? Balinese people ever so cool, enjoyed the warrung with Rini, NZ loving couple, warring kopi & new digs! Where in the world can u stay $15 with a/c in a gorgeous, tropical garden setting? Baik sekali. Terima Kasih.🏄♀
I'm not sure, Liz, but I think a lot of the beach has been eroded - I'm not sure if it's terminal or just a phase. Others would be knowledgable, I think. Lovely couple, lovely warung, good place to stay...life's good. :)
Look at you,Mr Popularity, being recognised a lot. It is ok,I have met my fair share of celebs 😆 Actually,I used to find it interesting how people behaved at different levels of fame&always drawn to dte folk. The room was lovely&aircon although I am out of my comfort zone in Kuta. I hope to go back to India,I went to Kumbh Mela in 2010 &bathed in the ganges but Kerala was quite chill. Looks like a new airline doing the Perth to Bali route. My mate refuses to drink spirits in Bali so stay happy and healthy, cheers
Kerala is a lovely part of India much like a lot of the south, I think. I'll have to look at what new airline is doing the PTH-DPS - it's always good to have more competition. There have been some stories about spirits in Bali and I've personally experienced a bar or two who might have messed a bit with the ingredients. Gotta stay on our toes a little. :)
@fiascodagama1 My ex work colleague brings her own spirits to Bali&she is definitely more Kuta&I am definitely more Ubud but would be nice to know where she gets all her bargains as she is very connected&even sponsored her Bali driver for a trip to Sydney. We are not spring chickens Wayne so better safe than sorry, cheers
Wayne when moves out of room could tell us the name cheers
It's Sari Indah Cottages Kuta, Michael.
How did you learn to speak Indonesian so well?
I don't speak Indonesian very well. Just a few common phrases used repeatedly. :)
That bit of Kuta Beach looks completely shot😢. And my wife would endorse the comment about drifting along Amed Beach. If you had to stay in one spot in Bali for a long time, you couldn't do much better. We spent a very happy 10 days sitting on our homestay seafront porch there last year, sadly not this. Glad you got to meet some of your viewers - maybe some time!
Hi Kevin. It seems pretty shot there on the beach at the moment, doesn't it? Amed is such an underrated place, I think. And I'm sure we'll get the opportunity over the next month to catch up.
@@fiascodagama1Let's hope so.

For that kind of room 150k is not bad at all, and in Kuta.
Pretty good for Kuta Central, I reckon.
Ever entertained the idea that good karma gives you these great serendipitous meetings? Im not prone to think metaphysics is a touchstone to reality mind you 😊
I'm not sure about anything other than I think it's largely a choice to be happy in life and many people respond quite positively to that.
So tell us, you live overseas but have to return to Australia or leave the other countries? Ty
You can't stay in countries without a visa and different visas allow you to stay for different periods of time.
@fiascodagama1 oh I see. Ty for clarifying.
I would go down like a sack of potatoes eating at a parked up bain-marie.
Some people seem to be a bit more prone to upset tummies it has to be said, Mitch.
Where did you learn to speak Thai ?
I don't speak Thai.
I'm like you, can't stand barking dogs or any loud and constant noise. So for that reason I find Bali hard to take these days with all the construction, traffic etc. Spoilt as we live in Central Victoria with no neighbours, so just silence and the bird sounds.
That sounds lovely, Sonia.
KUTA BEACH is totally finished in my opinion, those little Huts were always destined to be falling apart, the beach is gone and there is no attraction to be there at all
It's a bit sad isn't it?
I have stayed in Tuban 26 times
And i want to stay central kuta next time as you did

It is a bit ugly, isn't it?
@@fiascodagama1Kuta is built on sand & it's naturally "sacrificial dune"- eroding. No wall- eventually the beach is where the streets & buildings are- wall - will eventually mean no beach at all. Catch 22
The accommodation looked nice and tranquil, the room very basic. Looking at the street scenery, the mess, broken pavements, shabby buildings, it‘s hard to see the attraction of Bali though
@@ronald3921 it's got a unique vibe in many ways, particularly the relationship with Australia- there's no other place in the world so different but so connected. It's incredibly easy to make friends. Hundreds & hundreds of small entertainment venues, restaurants, pool bars, rock & reggae bands, "discos" in walking distance. Despite tourism saturation the Balinese culture remains strong. There's barely a street in Kuta without an active temple.
